This is an OK time-travel romance, but I did have a few issues with it.
First off, Georgina adapted to her unexpected time-travel way too easily to believe. I think she would have been a lot more freaked out by it then she was. Also, the highlanders would have been much more concerned with her strange talk and clothes than they were. It seemed like they just accepted all her differences way too easily. I didn't buy it.
For the most part, I liked both Georgina and Blair, but I did get irritated with them a few times. They were both really impulsive, and rarely thought thru the consequences before they did things -- which often caused problems. Blair was also very controlling and bossy, which Georgina did not appreciate. He knew she was from the 21st century, where women were much more independent, so he should not have expected her to be OK with his attitude.
I didn't buy that Georgina and Blair were in love. They were definitely in lust, but they just didn't spend enough time together for me to believe in their love connection.
I also thought that this story was very similar to the others in the series. There is unexpected time-travel, the h is rescued by a hot highlander, causes trouble with her modern ideas, falls in love with the hot highlander, needs to be rescued again, and then everything ends in an HEA. Many of the scenes, like the love scenes and wedding scenes, are also very similar in all the books in the series.
One other thing bothered me, and this is minor, but it is a pet peeve of mine. The couple on the book cover should look like they are described in the book. In this book, Georgina is described as having auburn hair, and Blair has blonde hair. Yet, the cover shows a woman with blonde hair and a man with auburn hair. That mistake may not be the author's fault, but it still bugs me.
The story was mildly entertaining, and I did like Irene -- so if there are more books in the series, I will read them. But I probably would not continue the series if it wasn't free with Kindle Unlimited. Because of the issues I noted above, it gets 3 stars from me.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
These books keep getting better and better. And since they were fantastic to begin with, that's saying something.
This book brings together Georgina (Georgie) Smythe and Blair MacAuley son of Camden and Bethany MacAuley. This book takes place A few years after "Song of A Highlander", book 11 in the "Arch Through Time" series. Georgie is a mason which will come in handy when the goes to 1577, where she meets Blair and helps him keep the balance of that time period.
I really enjoyed learning about masonry. Georgie is hired and brought to Scotland to help restore A stone arch.. The woman that hired her is none other than Adaira Campbell and she is seeking revenge for her brother's death in the 16th Century. The plot is really thrilling. And I loved Georgie and Blair as a couple.
I highly recommend not only this book but the entire series. In the meantime, I will be here patiently waiting for the 13th book. Will it involve another MacAuley? Time will tell.😉
I received an ARC of this e-book to read and write an honest review. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
Georgina, aka Georgie, Smyth is a stonemason taught by her father. Unfortunately, their business is failing. She's then visited by a strange old woman who tells Georgie that she has a choice coming up. She's then offered a wonderful job in Scotland that will get them where she wants to be. But things soon take a turn she's not expecting as she's thrust back in time.
Blair MacAuley is a man on a mission but first he needs to escape his current situation. When Georgie is thrown into the dungeon, he vows to help her. Their path together is going to put them in situations neither may be able to control and they must learn to trust each other. They have an enemy to defeat. Can they do it?
I absolutely love this series and this book is no exception. I was hooked from the beginning and kept on the edge of my seat throughout the book. Full of action and adventure, this book will capture your attention. It's well-written with well-rounded characters whom you'll love getting to know whether you like them or not. I'm really looking forward to the next book. I highly recommend both book and series which I suggest you read in order.
Time of a Highlander: Arch Through Time, Book 12 By Katy Baker Kindle unlimited purchase Do you remember Camdon? Remember back in book 7 8 and 9 when the three brothers were cursed by the Fae. Well, this is Blair's book. Camdon's son's book. It is 1577 and Irene is still up to no good. Blair is a true McAuley he is strong and brave, will put his life before others. Georgina is just the woman for Blair the only thing is she lives in the 21st Century not1577. But Irene fixes that problem. Irene says “Sometimes the balance is thrown off kilter and we are born many miles and many years away from the place we should have been" Going to start book 13 now!
Georgie is from the 21st century and is terribly confused and scared when she time traveled into the 14th century accidentally. She ends up on an adventure she would never have believed.
Blair has a self imposed burden he carries with him. He has been trying to make things somewhat better, but without much success.
Blair and Georgie work together to take down an Englishman and a woman from the 21st century who are evil. They both have their own agendas. Revenge and greed. Blair and Georgie are in great danger trying to stop them. However, during their time together they fall in love!
This is one of my favorite series. I love The Arch Through Time stories and again this one does not disappoint. No matter which century you are from, life can be complicated. I enjoy Katy’s characters they are well thought out and are easy to relate to. I love losing myself in the stories and the only downside is that they end. While each book is a complete story I am always left looking forward to the next adventure in the quest to keep things in balance.
Consider the possibility of traveling back in time and pairing up with a strong highlander to help him protect his clan. This intriguing time travel romance has Georgie a stonemason doing just that. The appearance of previous book characters just adds to the enhancement of the story. Highly recommend this series.
What could you imagine if you had the chance to fall back on time to live with really wonderful highlanders? The women are friendly and happy to have you living there and the men are handsome honorable hunks. ??
Loved this book, was nice to see one of the strong women know a little bit about riding too! I really enjoyed how things turned out with her dad. Great storyline that keeps you intrigued!
I have enjoyed this book. My mind can’t wrap around the things that are thought up for these time travel stories. Blair and Georgie went through a lot to be together and love won out.
I really enjoyed reading book 12 in the Highlander series by Katy Baker. I wish Irene was in there more. That little Fae person is just great! I really loved reading the love story of Georgie and her Highlander. Thanks for wrapping some ends up there!
