It's Halloween, and Pooh and his friends are all dressed up and ready for their annual parade. They soon discover there are more tricks than treats in store for everyone!
I read this book to my daughter a lot every Halloween, so it has fond memories even if the story is very mild and silly. And for some reason, the scary "rock" amuses me every time.
(My Pooh Project: I love Winnie the Pooh, and so does my wife. Having a daughter gave us a chance to indoctrinate her into the cult by buying and reading her every Pooh book we came across. How many is that? I’m going to count them this year by reading and reviewing one every day and seeing which month I finally run out. Track my progress here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list... )
Personal Response: It’s so cute watching the reactions on the kids faces when I read the book to them. They were all fascinated by the detailed pictures in the book and the way I read the book to them. It seemed to me that although the book was kind of short, I thought it taught a great lesson. That lesson was awareness and to always be aware of their surroundings. I think this is a great lesson to teach younger children, because many children don’t pay attention to their surroundings and are care free.
Plot: Pooh and all his friends were getting ready to go trick-or-treating. Pooh was dressed up as a honey pot, piglet was dressed up as a pirate, rabbit was dressed up as a ranger, and tiger was dressed up as a rabbit. All of a sudden they all heard a scary noise coming from the corner of the room. In the corner of the room was a rock which confused them, because what they never heard of a rock making scary noises. Then they suddenly heard a knock of the door, and a big, scary rock walked into the house. They were all terrified until Christopher said “boo, it’s me”! They all told Christopher about the scary, noise making rock. He then went and touched the rock realizing it wasn’t a rock in the corner of the house, but Eeyore. They were all very relieved the “rock” was Eeyore, and then they all went trick-or-treating together.
Characterization: Pooh- He was a very nice, caring bear that couldn’t wait to spend time with his friends. He is always the most considerate friend and always wants the best for everyone.
Recommendations: I recommend this book to girls and boys under the age of seven. I believe that after seven years of age this book would get too easy for the children. I think children under the age of seven would love this book because it is at the perfect level of understanding for them.
Charlotte's current favorite book. It was a hand-me-down from a co-worker with a much older son. I can't believe the number of new words/phrases Charlotte has picked up from this book!! She's repeated the lines "Oh, dear" and "Oh, my," and has tried to some other lines. "Shake fear" for "shaking with fear" and "slilly Ee-yo" for "silly Eeyore." This book isn't the worst Pooh-franchise-related book I've read, so that's something.
My 4 year old and I enjoyed this book. Fun costumes, some scary characters, learning not to be afraid, and a Halloween parade. just wish whomever had this book before us (library book) didn't fill in all the activities in the back. would have been fun to do those too.
