How do you condense “happiness” into one book? This guide is part self-help, part psychological research attempting to define what is happiness and tries to answer how do we achieve it?

This was a little underwhelming and felt more like an “introductory guide” to happiness. There is a link to online guided meditations to accompany the book, a happiness plan and exercises to practice but I wanted more. It was a quick read, but lacking the depth I was after.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a place to start on their journey to happiness, but perhaps not to someone who’s looking for extra things to add to their existing toolkit.

I actually didnt read this book. I had skimmed through it and it would be good for people trying to learn meditation techniques and getting to a happier place in life. I bought it at BAM in the bargain section.

A Guide to Happiness by Tara Ward.
This quick guide offers helpful tips and information on using mindfulness and meditation. Seven steps build a way for making happiness a regular and natural part of our lives. The chemistry of our emotions and hormones is explained easily and concisely to help readers understand how and why we feel the way we do, depending on the situation. Several meditation exercises are placed throughout this guide. One of my favorites is the happiness cloud. The book closes with the Happiness Plan which involves questions and exercises to help gear our minds to daily happiness. A fun guide to happiness!

A Guide to Happiness is a short book, focusing on meditations we can do to improve our happiness. The cover itself does a great job of lifting the mood.

The meditations are good and well explained and there is one for each section which is helpful as they all focus on different aspects talked about in the book. At the end of each section, the author provides an anecdotal example of what has been discussed, and although this is a nice way to connect with the author, I felt anonymous case studies may have worked better for the reader to relate to.

We have a short introduction and dive straight into the meditations. I feel this book assume you are already reading up on self-care or have read the author's other books, as there isn't too much to lead us into the book.

I was hoping for a bit more from this book, but if it is bought as a coffee table book, which you can pick up when feeling low to complete a quick meditation, then I think it does its job. I do appreciate the 'Happiness Plan' at the end to help pull everything together. Overall, this would be a great present to help lift someone's mood if they aren't looking for a too serious mental health guide.

I have a love/hate relationship with self help books. They are the easiest thing to write and nearly all of them lack originality. You can probably guess some of the phrases used before opening them.

The main reason I could give for anyone to choose this one over the myriad of others is that the author does include some personal accounts of how she found her happiness (as well as including some tragedy from her life.)

The main text, meditations and exercises are all things I have either read before or that I would have predicted would be there.

I am sure this would help someone find happiness using mediation and mindfulness. Most things will help someone. It is just not something that stands out in a crowded self help book market.

I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I requested this book because I have really been into journaling in the past couple of years and wanted to see what this could offer me to add into my route. Tara has happiness down to a science. The Book is broken up into 7 Steps. That range from health, finding happiness, to the stepping stones to find your version of happiness. I know that happiness is not the same for everyone. I like the boxes that say helpful hints. The book was useful and there are some parts I am going to keep using.

This is a short book on meditations and mindfulness to be happy.

There is a step by step guide that has a meditation and instructions included. Once you master one step you can move on to the next.

Overall I think the meditations and suggestions are thoughtful! I appreciate that the steps are summarized at the end of the book to move you toward happiness.

A quick and easy read with lots of simple and beautiful mediations that can be put into practice right away. I loved all of the practices, especially the idea of breathing in colours that make me happy. I will add these tools to my routine as they really worked well for me. The information about choosing your happiness also makes a lot of sense. I would love to have an audio book of this!

An easy quick read. Helpful meditations to put into practice - most only 5 minutes. The author shares her own strategies and examples from her life. I enjoy that pages have drawings that you can colour in and relax as you focus on goals and happiness. Excellent resource for anyone looking for easy to incorporate strategies for leading a more joyful and happy life.

Didn't finish

I couldn't get into this one. I just want to return the e-book to the library. Perhaps someone else will find it helpful.
