This is a well written, fast paced read that has all the elements needed for a wonderful story! It moves the characters quickly and surely through this novel of blackmail, Murder💀, mayhem, and ADULT romance💕. Recommend!
This is an action adventure story that includes shocking revelations, murder, torture, a rescue, lies, a forced marriage, secrets and escape attempts. The h, Cora, has spirit, is prepared for all types of danger, has a strong personality but has a loving, fiercely loyal heart. The H, Alec, had a daunting challenge and responsible given to him by the King. He was not favorably received. He had grit and determination. He was also well versed on what was expected of a Laird. He had what it took to make it. But he had to win the loyalty and respect of the people before he would be accepted. When he took over a clan that was destitute to ruin, he had his work cut out for him. He was 100 percent warrior, 100 percent a fair and wise Laird and had a 100 percent moral compass that led his way. This is an exciting read. A difficult complicated romance with a happily ever after.
This book is worth a read but didn’t really have me excited about interacting with the book where I could not put it down (skimmed through parts of the book). It lacks the excitement and well roundness of my personal markers for a great read throughout the book. personal markers for a great read...1. smart and engaging writing, 2. Humorous, 3. sexy interactions and 4. stories with family/friends.
There was a lack of development and interest in main characters. I enjoy secondary characters and there were a few moments in the book that enough info was provided that a reader MAY be interested in reading past books and the upcoming book.
There were a handful of humorous scenes but nothing that stuck out.
I found the movement of the book ‘choppy at times’ especially around the story telling overall.
The style of writing and the language of the conversation is Written primary in modern English slang with old Scottish dialogue which I fully admit irritated me to no end. I’m not a fan of this writing style (historical setting with modern day language; I don’t want Shakespeare but I want some form of consistent language accuracy).
There are romantic/sexual content throughout the book (kissing, oral, love making). There are a few detailed written scenes and several just mentioning the act. 2.5/5 hotness and steam.
Read this book once and that is enough for me.
I wouldn’t cross the author out of my potential reads in the future as I have no problem reading authors that I would rate a consistent 3 stars.
Highlander's Beautiful Liar is a Must read that will keep you spellbound from the moment you begin the journey until the very end. It brings you through the dark and turbulent times of the Highlands, with all the violence, danger, and deceit in this action-packed rollercoaster ride full of twist and turns that will keep you sitting on the edge of your seat! Each and every character came to life with an incredibly strong plot that you will find yourself drawn into their story. Alec Sinclair a big brawny Highlander is sent by King Edward to become Laird of the MacKay clan. When taking over the clan Alec finds Cora who has been a prisoner in the MacKay's dungeon for the last six months and releases her. But Cora has secrets to keep or her family in England will be in grave danger. To keep her family and herself safe she must tell the new Laird half-truths. Trying to discover the truths from Cora and keep her safe, Alec decides to marry Cora and save clan MacKay from a tangled web of greed and deceit of a madman. It's a passion filled, heart pounding story with plenty of drama, kidnapping, deceit, murder and while the suspense builds and tension escalate, and twists and turns abound that makes for one thrilling experience. It's a story of love, faith, and to triumph over all. An outstanding historical romance by Adamina Young! The Extended Epilogue rounds out the story very well.
I enjoyed this book because the main characters were delightful. The story had family intrigue, torture, trust issues, and of course romance. Cora is forced from her adaptive family by her father, the McKay Laird, to marry Innes, a real unknown scoundrel. She saw her half brother, Seth, kill her father to become the Laird and then destroy the clan in 6 months. Alex Sinclair is sent to take over the McKay clan and finds Cora chained in the dungeon, after being tortured by Seth and Innes. Seth is killed during the take over and Innes threatens Cora that he will kill her adaptive sister is she reveals what he did to her. Thus, she starts lying. Alex treats her with gentleness even though he knows she is lying. When the King arrives, he reveals that "Claire" is really Cora. And to avoid Innes, she marries Alec. But can she really avoid dealing with Innes? How will the love bloom between Alex and Cora?
Cora leaving England with Laird Duncan Mackay her father was stopped by bandits. It was her half brother and he killed his father to become Laird. He was ready to kill Cora next but was stopped by his friend Innes Campbell. Innes wanted Cora so they put her into the dungeon. Six months later by order of the King Alec came to be Laird and Seth was to step down. After a fight and Seth dead Alec found Cora and freed her. By the time Alec found that Cora was a Mackay he had to marry her to save her from Innes. Cora was trying to save her family in England and Alec from Innes but Alec fought and killed Innes and brought her family to the highlands for a visit.
Cora was raised as an English girl/woman but she has something much stronger in her. The crap she had to go through practically all her life but especially this one particular year. She is a very very strong lying woman.
Alec is a very handsome guy where his family has strong ties to the King. The King has chosen him to take over being the Laird. But he has a very long and rough road ahead of him to gain their trust, respect and to get their land fruitful again.
The struggles, betrayal, lying, fighting and torture all wrapped up in this amazing book !!!! Great Job Adamina !!!!
I received this as an ARC book for my honest and voluntary review.
Lots of Lies and Passion Made This An Enjoyable Story: The new laird of the MacKay clan takes over and comes across Cora in a most usual situation. A really good story that starts being quite involved right away. Attraction between the two doesn't take long for the embers of fire to take off. Interesting characters along with many ups and downs, lots of danger, evil villains and a lot of heated romance make this a really good story. End has some wonderful surprises and a very captivating epilogue that shows some promise of another story. I really enjoyed the book and would recommend it to any of my romance reader friend.
Beautifully written story of greed , power, ambition, cruelty, vengeance, political pawns, loyalty, and romance in the harsh, but beautiful highlands. Vivid descriptions makes the reader feel what living in the era truly is. There is mystery, collusion, justice, murder, secrets, and lies. Enter the upturned world of an English Lady when her unknown Scottish father takes her to Scotland to marry a Highlander on the order of the Scottish king. Very well written plot. Hard to put down. Highly recommended.
Historical Romances are one of my favorite genres. It's hard to find good historical romances. Can across this one by accident. Really enjoyed it. Seth and Inness were beyond evil, they were what you would describe as what nightmares are made of. Loved the heroine, she was a bit stubborn when she wouldn't tell the hero why she was so afraid. Story has murder, mystery, lies, secrets, attempted murder and a HEA. Kudos to the author👏👏👏
An interesting storyline. Actually, I've never run across this storyline before and I quite enjoyed it. A couple of villains woven into the story and understanding Scottish king. A strong main female character. Scenes from both the MMC and the FMC. A must read. It was such a great read with this first book, I am ready to crack open book 2 right now. 2 thumbs up 👍👍
Adamina is doing a great job at weaving a good storyline. Alec and Cora come together from different worlds but together they discover a HEA. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in a great read. I received this ARC in exchange for a voluntary honest review which I have freely written here
Maybe it’s because I couldn’t get into the story but I had a hard time with Cora! the fact that Cora was willing to give herself to Innes Was is too much for me I made it that far before I threw in the towel which is kind of sad because I wanted to read the rest of the series but now I’m turned off
This book kept my attention and I read it in one sitting! It was interesting to me the way the keep worked, the fact that the clan took their meals together in the great hall, etc... . And the love story was excellently told. Adamina Young is a true storyteller!
Really loved the story. Cora is a strong woman. She endures a lot from several men. Alec is her knight in shining armor but knows she is hiding something. The building of love and trust is beautiful to see. You will enjoy this book.
Great Highland story, About Alec And Cora, he rescued her from Captivity, and Cora learned that All Highlanders weren't mean . And that one Highlander could steal her heart. Thank you ❤
Typical highland romance. I read one or two when I am tired of reading 'beaver ,modern day books, Good read, well written with a promise of more in the series to keep you interested.
I read this book after reading book 2 & 3. I really like Alex and Cora's story. This story was great. I enjoyed very much. Adamina Young has become one of faves for sure.
The plotline was interesting; however, the poor editing with missing words, incorrect character names, and other grammatical errors made the reading unpleasant.
