Blood of Zeus #2

Heart of Fire

Rate this book
He’s forged from heaven. She’s promised to hell.

Professor Maximus Kane can no longer deny his passion for his stunning yet mysterious student, Kara Valari. But surrendering to their desires carries more consequences than just violating the Alameda University conduct codes. Kara has defied her destiny. Higher directives have been violated. Now there’s hell to pay.

It’s a crisis for which there seems no solution, until the explosive secrets of Maximus’s bloodline are exposed. Despite all his doubts and fears, Maximus has no choice but to accept help from his enigmatic father, which means coming to terms with his heritage and embracing a bizarre new world of gods and demons. Because somewhere in that world—in the strange and sordid secrets surrounding his past—is the key to protecting Kara’s future. Nothing has ever meant more to him than saving the treasure of her life and the fire of her heart.

While earth’s lower realms seek payback for Kara’s transgressions, Kara finds a new ally in a surprising place: the Valari matriarch herself. Beneath the scrutiny of the world press, Veronica orchestrates a plan to protect her daughter by doing what she does best—shining the spotlight on her. But by her side, Maximus can’t escape the glare of the paparazzi.

Can they buy time and blind their enemies with Kara’s fame? Or will Hollywood’s new “it” couple and their forbidden love incite more vengeance than they’d ever bargained for?

Ah•May•Zing!!!

This was a phenomenal read, Kara and Maximus' story is one of light and dark, good and evil, and the struggle for love to conquer all.

Here's the ultimate question Can Love conquer all? This is an epic love story but it makes you wonder if good can overcome evil and if it can what is the ultimate price that will be paid for it. Kara and Maximus are hoping that their love will prevail and that no one will be hurt in the process, but only time will tell if that is what will happen because we are left with another cliffhanger and this one had me nearly jumping out of my skin with a lot of WTF's coming out of my mouth.

OH MY Meredith and Angel this book is EVERYTHING! I was so excited to receive an ARC of Heart on Fire and it did not disappoint in any way, (other than I have to wait for Fate of Storms). : (. This was the perfect book for me to finish my reading with for 2020!

We meet Kara and Maximus right where we left them in Blood of Zeus. Heart of Fire was the perfect name for this book. The Fire between Kara and Max is on point and can not be denied!

This book is beauty and fire, fashion and art, sincerity and snark, and a whole lot of undeniable love and feeling! I would RUN to your nearest book store or e-reader and get this book! It it worth your undivided attention!

Oh. My. Gosh! This story took my heart on a rollercoaster of emotions. I had a hard time putting this down to sleep each night. The love between Kara and Maximus jumps off the pages and into your soul! The way the authors meld their writing is fascinating, but the story they weave is out of this world. The mixing of modern society with Greek mythology is probably my new favorite troupe. If you like new age romance or Greek mythology at all, this series is perfect for you. Cannot wait for the third book in the series!!!!!

This was a fabulous continuation of Maximus and Kara's story, as we delve deeper in Maximus' hidden history and how their love affair has really messed up the order of things.

"She looks like an angel. But she's my perfect little demon. And I'm beginning to truly believe that she's all mine."

These two lovers have fallen irrevocably in love with one another. No power in any realm can break it. The connection between them grows deeper by the day, as we see how beautifully and stunningly their souls are intertwined. The writing is poetic, dreamlike and very fitting to the story.

"In a world where I'd have to exist without you, no knife would cut deep enough anyway."

For two people who are really private individuals, these two have to walk the walk as they navigate their new relationship in the public eye, whilst not really understanding or realising what's really at play. By the end of this instalment, in the wake of devastation, there are a million questions to be answered, and May can't come soon enough with the final book.

When Maximus’s and Kara’s worlds collided together as teacher and student neither was prepared for the fallout that it would bring. They know that they should stay away from each other on so many levels but some things are impossible to deny.

Now that they have crossed lines there is no going back and they will face whatever obstacles the future brings them as a couple. They have those who support them but there is also a faction that will do anything to tear them apart and that is where their biggest challenges will lay.

The characters draw you in, their story is captivating, their love magical to watch and it leaves us wondering what the future holds for this couple.

Amazing story by Angel Payne and Meredith Wild. This is book 2, and it picks up where Blood of Zeus, book 1 ended. Kara and Maximus are completely taken by each other in a whirlwind romance that is all consuming and forbidden. We learn more about their back stories and family histories. Many turns in this story takes you to the cliffhanger that could only have been written by these two amazing authors! Hoping May gets here quickly because I need book #3. I recommend this series to everyone! I received an advance copy for my honest review.. Thanks for the awesome story ladies!

And the plot thickens. I really love where the story is headed. It was good to have Z and his brothers more involved in the storyline. I can't wait to see what will Maximus do now because that ending was quite epic.

[I received a digital arc for an honest review]

"Because nothing can ever compare to you. This. Us."

Heart of Fire
is the second book in the Blood of Zeus series by Meredith Wild and Angel Payne. This is a continuous series, and you need to read book one before this one. Therefore, my review will be short and spoiler free.

In the second installment of Blood of Zeus, Maximus and Kara are trying to come to terms with the revelations that ended book one. The Valari's decide that thrusting them into the spotlight will keep her safe from the repercussion of her actions. Yet this may just put Maximus into danger himself.

Heart of Fire
is filled with outings for the paparazzi, some sweet moments for Max and Kara, and some explosive intimate scenes between the two of them. It's also filled with Gods (pleasant and not so pleasant ones), demigods, demons and all the chaos that these individuals bring with them.

The Blood of Zeus series continues to bring undeniable passion along with a new modern take on Greek mythology. It's exciting to find the parallels and similarities to well known myths and the way the authors bring them to life.

"A thousand little moments that twined our souls, tighter and tighter, until I couldn't imagine giving myself to anyone else."

Beta read:

Loveloveloved the second installment of Maximus and Kara's story. More emotion. More family history, on both sides.

Payne and Wild brought us deeper into the throes of Greek Mythology, introducing us to more of Maximus's family. With that comes the uncovering of secrets. Secrets that have the potential to tear our forbidden lovers apart for eternity.

I enjoyed seeing more of the family dynamic for both characters. They get help formulating a plan to ensure their relationship remains possible, even with the underworld knocking on their door.

As I mentioned, this book holds so much more emotion between Kara and Maximus than book 1. It's not angsty, but you feel it, especially at the end. Their connection is palpable, literally and figuratively.

Heart of Fire by Meredith WIld & Angel Payne is book two in the Blood of Zeus Series. This continues the story of Kara Valari and Maximus Kane, so you really should read the previous book 'Blood of Zeus' before starting this one. This book took us right to where we left off. This connection and story starts to strengthen and we start to learn more of Maximums life. This start to lead us into Greek Mythology as we start to learn more. This book didn't slow down on the page turning for me and left me needing more which hopefully the next book will be coming soon. I so recommend these two author's writing and this is a great series to start with them.

This story picks up right where Kara and Maximus left off. They are complete opposites but they compliment each other so well and their passion for each other is off the charts. Such a phenomenal blend of mythology and a modern day love story. I can’t wait for the next installment!!

MITOLOGIA GRECKA.

Wow can this series get any better? Hot and steamy!

Cara and Maximus heat the pages up and make it near impossible to put the book down!

Be weary though because just like that it ends in a major cliffhanger! I can't wait to read the next one!

Ok so now hades has come into the mix. He’s supposed to be the villain in this, the Devil dragging the FMC to hell. If the authors think this will turn me against Hades, they have another think coming. Team Hades no matter what!

4.25 stars--HEART OF FIRE is the second instalment in the contemporary, adult BLOOD OF ZEUS paranormal, mythological, romantic suspense series co-authored by Meredith Wild and Angel Payne focusing on university student Kara Valari and professor Maximus Kane. HEART OF FIRE should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up after the event of book one BLOOD OF ZEUS.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Kara and Maximus) HEART OF FIRE follows in the aftermath of Maximus Kane’s discovery of his heritage, and the history of his mother’s relationship with a God among man. As the fall-out of Maximus’ relationship with his student Kara Valari comes under the scrutiny of the paparazzi, the students and the teaching staff, there is someone else determined to make Kara his own, no matter the cost or repercussions to everyone involved. What ensues is the ongoing relationship between Maximus and Kara, and the chaotic fall-out of betrayal, vengeance, obsession and lies.

Once again, there is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters. We are introduced to Maximus’ best friend and fellow professor Jesse NOrth; Kara’s sister Kell, their mother Veronica Valari, their grandfather Giovani Valari, art collector Arden, Maximus’ mother Nancy Kane, his father, and the uncles he knew nothing about. We are introduced to Kara’s brother Jaden, and his best friend Rerek who is about to betray the man that he loves.

Like the first instalment BLOOD OF ZEUS, HEART OF FIRE is a story of family, secrets, power and gods; of mythological demons, angels, contracts and legends; of promises and love. The premise is captivating and heart breaking; the romance is passionate and emotional; the characters are energetic and determined. HEART OF FIRE ends on a cliff-hanger, you have been warned.

Disappointedly slow and unremarkable.

Maximus Kane is a character made for daydreaming - physically (I mean look at the cover and the inside pictures!). Other than that though, this book left me with nothing to fantasize about or write home about.

I had some hopes, though not high, going into this second book of the series. I hoped for more character growth, relationship development and some steamy romantic scenes. I thought for sure the plot would pick up, and the emotion/angst in our two main characters would be at a combustible level. Unfortunately, none of that happened.

Leaving off right where the first book ended, our two main characters are laying around waiting to hear news of what their future will entail. Will they be able to love each other without limits? Will the demi god's father, Zeus, help and will the half demon's mother, Veronica, find out and blow a gasket?

To be honest, I questioned myself quite often on whether I should give up and move on. I found it hard to keep myself engaged. The characters are not overly likeable, for they seem to think everyone else will solve their problems for them. Plus their relationships seems to be stagnant and definitely not at the level I would expect for them both being half human and thus having some extra nonhuman abilities. As for the plot, that is slow and redundant - until I hit the last few chapters and was able to say 'finally'! Finally, some action was to be had, and it could not have left me more intrigued for the third book.

Again, I find myself excited to read the next book. I still have a desire to learn the outcome and to follow the journey of the characters. Though, I know that excitement is on its last leg. It will not take much for me to give up entirely. Fingers crossed, the third book will be redeemable!

To say I was excited for this next book in the Blood of Zeus series, is pretty much an understatement and it didn’t disappoint! I was torn between devouring it as quickly as possible or savouring it, but the Magic that Meredith Wild and Angel Payne weave in this story has you unable to put it down until it’s finished.

The story starts where Blood of Zeus finishes, and then goes from strength to strength. Maximus and Kara, now have to deal with the aftermath of their powerful connection and the danger it has brought to them. It also takes us deeper into Maximus’s family and his past and the world of Greek Mythology it is riveting.

The love between these two is so pure and intense, it is portrayed beautifully in this story you can feel it from the words.

“"I’m not sure if this helps or hurts.”
“If it’s hurting you, it’s gone.” I’m not sarcastic about it this time. Not a note. “Kara. I’d cut my own heart out if its beats caused you pain.” I form my hands over hers, bringing them back up to the space at the center of my sternum. “In a world where I’d have to exist without you, no knife would cut deep enough anyway.”"

A relationship between a demi god and a demon, two worlds colliding, but can they do enough to save them from the danger and uncertainty of it.

The book ends on a cliffhanger, which again leaves me excited and eager for the final installment.

Heart of Fire (Blood of Zeus # 2) by Meredith Wild, Angel Payne picks up with Maximus knowing Zeus is his father. Maximus has true feelings for Kara and their relationship is making severe waves. Kara has broken her family obligations which has stirred up a bee's hive. While Zeus tries to forge a relationship with his son he also has to smooth things over with his brothers, especially Hades since Kara is part of his world. Kara's mother does what she does best to keep her daughter safe. I truly enjoyed this story, part of the enjoyment for me is my love for Greek Mythology. Learning about Maximus and his past , why he couldn't remember his early years and the interaction with Hades kept me quite interested.  Now it seems Hades has a real interest in Kara that is the set up to the end of this book and the beginning of the finale to book 3. The ending has me chomping at the bit for book 3 and how this story will be brought to it's final conclusion.  A 4 star read for me. I hope to get more about Zeus, Maximus's mother and of course Hera. Like I said I love Greek Mythology and if Hera is true to form she has a hand in some of what is going on. Boy oh boy!!!!!

I have been dying for this book since the moment I finished Blood of Zeus. Meredith Wild and Angel Payne completely knocked it out of the park with the second book in this series. The moment it starts you are transported right back to where things left off for Maximus and Kara and from there it is an never ending ride that will have you on the edge of your seat the entire time.

More secrets are revealed. We get more family. More mythology. A connection between Maximus and Kara that is only growing deeper and deeper. Their relationship should be forbidden. A demigod and a demon. One belongs to the heavens and the other to hell, yet their chemistry is explosive. Their love is beautiful.

If you haven’t started this series I HIGHLY recommend it, even if paranormal romance isn’t your thing, you will still love this story and get lost in the world that Meredith Wild and Angel Payne have so beautifully created. I can’t wait to see how their story continues in book 3!

The dynamic duo are at it again with the second book in the Blood of Zeus series, and man, I already NEED SO MUCH MORE! Since this is the second book, that means YOU MUST READ Blood of Zeus (Book 1) FIRST! As Heart of Fire comes out of the gate where Book 1 pushed us off at, I'm really not down with giving much away because it could be spoilers for that first book. Maximus & Kara have all kinds of things going with all kinds of outside forces trying to strong arm them so the secondaries are definitely a colorful bunch with all the gods & demons and even the paparazzi involved. I was suspicious of everyone which kept me on the edge of my seat cover to cover with heart racing, turning the pages at warp speed to see what was around the corner. This paranormal series is very original and I'm HERE FOR IT ALL! Of course I'm once again hanging by a finger off of another cliff so I'm impatiently waiting on the next book! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

Recently I’ve been hooked on PNR romances, ones that are heavy on the paranormal but I’m in absolute love with this series. Meredith Wild and Angel Payne have created a beautiful world that blends romance and paranormal in prefect harmony.

Heart of Fire picks up where book one ends and the chemistry between Maximus and Kara intensifies as their relationship! Just like in Blood of Zeus (book one) we are in for a journey and one hell of a cliffhanger!

This book is filled with secrets that will either help or destroy Maximus and Kara’s relationship and their forbidden love. Just like in book one this book also builds up the secondary characters, developing their relationships with our main characters but we also are introduced to more gods and demons.

If your looking for a way into reading PNR then this series is one I would highly recommend you check out. The series is filled with chemistry, mystery and magic!! I can’t wait for book three!

I was absolutely ready for book 2 in the Blood of Zeus trilogy and it was everything I expected and so much more. Meredith Wild and Angel Payne are magical together bringing us into the continuing story of Gods and demons, plus the human world. Maximus and Kara sustain and go beyond their beautiful and stormy lovemaking. What a emotional ride we are treated too, with an incredible cast of characters. There are twists and turns, magic, fantastic sexy incredible love, and two souls who were never meant to be together and yet neither one wants to be with anyone, or anywhere else. Maximus must fight for Kara and she for him. The writing is entertaining, smooth, and splendid. I am so excited for Storms of Fate to have questions answered, and see Max and Kara emerge victorious.
Thank you Meredith and Angel for your magnificent story.
