Dark Sorcery #2

Seduced by Magic

Rate this book
Copper Ashcroft is an accomplished D'Anu witch, but the magic she wields is a potent force--strong enough to hurl her into a mysterious Otherworld when a spell backfires. Before Copper can escape, another being is pulled into her realm--Tiernan, a powerfully virile Tuatha D'Danann warrior. Blond, blue-eyed, and shamelessly seductive, Tiernan could be Copper's savior…and his touch sets her body on fire.

Like others of his kind, Tiernan stands alongside the D'Anu witches to battle the demons of the Underworld. Obligation to his cause and his people cautions against any entanglement with Copper, yet each second spent with this beautiful, uninhibited woman stirs an insatiable hunger. Desire explodes into carnal bliss, but the visions that haunt Copper's dreams are growing stronger, and they foretell a terrifying evil waiting to be unleashed…

Saving the city will take more than brute strength…more than witchcraft. Only together can Copper and Tiernan find a way to overcome the dark forces--and seize a passion that has bewitched them both.

I was irritated by Copper being clumsy. Clumsiness is so annoying. And their names are ridiculous. Sisters Copper and Silver. I was curious what their sibling’s names would have been had they had any. Gold. Iron. Bronze. Their mom’s name is Moondust. Snort.

There were interesting phrases like “Bless it,” said as an oath and she tripped. And “For the Ancestors’ sake.”

I liked the chant: “In this place on this sacred ground, Within this circle good shall be bound, With the light of my wand this place surround, May what is lost now be found.”

Tiernan is Lord of the House of Cathal in Otherworld and a Tuatha D’Danann warrior. They’re neutral Fae who only answer calls for help if they’re in the natural order.

The D’Anu witches summoned the D’Danann before Samhain. The Famorii are demons and the D’Danann and the Elves are the only ones who can kill them. The Balorites are warlocks run by the priest Darkwolf who follow the god Balor.

Tiernan noticed how Silver’s blouse pulled against her breasts and her skirt reached mid-thigh and he preferred that to his women’s clothing. He should not be noticing what her sister looks like in her clothes. Don’t use the hero to describe the heroine’s sister.
Even worse, he was to be mated with a woman of the D’Danann. “There would be no room for trifling with other females for anything besides sex.” Oh that’s nice. Screwing around until your bonding is okay.

Darkwolf demanded that Elizabeth/Jungo not wear panties and only garters and stockings under her skirt. He was hard at the thought of her bare pussy. And he wanted Sara the seer and liked that Elizabeth was jealous. He had sex with her normally, oral, and anal.

Tiernan had sex with women in the village at the pleasure houses, f’ing one beautiful woman after another. Ew.

Tiernan’s mating was in 2 days. She’s only 18 and he’s centuries old. It’s all to produce a son and heir and he’d ensure it with as many joinings as it took. She didn’t want to have sex before their handfasting and preferred he seek his pleasure elsewhere as was customary with lords and ladies, to seek their pleasure with Pleasure Partners in the village. Tiernan’s needs were insatiable.

I can’t stand being in the bad guy’s POV, especially for his sex life. That was what ultimately made me put the book down for good, along with crude details about the hero’s sex life. At least Copper had her own sex life, but of course it wasn’t said like this. She liked sex and needed to get laid, not that she f’ed one man after another.

It was too trashy and classless for me and way too sexual. Don’t ever feel the need to read this author again since she’s like this.

When the heroine secluded herself to spell her illegal gray magic she was approached by an evil wizard and after she attempted to banish him to the underworld where he belongs, it's she herself that is imprisoned in the otherworld. Surrounded by Fae and a general sense of peace, she is still frantic to escape but her magic just doesn't seem to be working. In joking manner, she cast a spell to bring her a gorgeous man if she can't get freedom, never imagining that that particular spell would work just fine. The hero is man of responsibility, honor and duty. He is kind and softhearted despite his intimidating size and the fact that he is royalty along the Fae. When he promised to a young woman he doesn't love, it never crosses his mind to disappoint his parents. When he finds out his betrothal is not only in love with a common man but pregnant as well, the hero still resigns himself to marrying the girl if he can't find a suitable solution for all parties involved. He never imagined he could come to care for a stubborn and wayward witch but from the time he first saw the heroine's photograph, he felt s connection to her.

The heroine is missing though, for over a year, and her family is frantic to get her back, especially when her sister envisions a dark and deadly future. The hero never imagined that he'd suddenly find himself drawn forth by a powerful spell and into the prison that is holding the heroine herself. Furious with this turn of events and desperate to return to the fight that is waging between the Fae, the witches and the demon horde, he neither the less finds himself drawn to the beautiful heroine. Their relations could be called lust but somehow, they both know that what lies between them is so much more. But when the heroine finds out he is betrothed, she turns him away from her bed. It doesn't last long before she is succumbing to the desire that builds between them and in the end, it's that powerful magic generated from their lovemaking that is key to the heroine breaking them free of their cage. Reunited with her family for only a brief moment before her sister is kidnapped, the heroine now must brave her nightmares turned reality and venture back into the depth of hell she's feared for so long. With visions of death and sacrifice, the heroine must find all her courage to do what she must to save her sister. But she has the hero, the man who turns his back on his family duty to love her, at her side.

***Sigh*** Once again, I find myself hesitate to say I liked this book. On one hand, there were times I was engaged in the story and the hero and heroine were both characters I came to admired and like. On the other, there was that damn disconnect between me and the 5 stars. Something about this book didn't jive with me. Perhaps it lacked an easy flow. Perhaps there was not as much excitement as I would have liked- not considering that end battle which was nails. Whatever the reason, I couldn't get swept away in the pages and looking back, I can't say I had enjoyed the overall novel. I liked the heroine, I will say that. She was stubborn but she was capable and she brave enough to risk everything, her frightening visions, her loss of magic and the very real possibility she will be responsible for the end of the world, for the life of her sister. Their bond was true and very strong. The hero was a very admirable character as well. Once bound by duty, he never imagined he'd fall in love with a witch. But when he did, he surrendered his title, gave his wealth away and surrendered to life with the woman he loves which I found incredibly sweet. The book wasn't bad....it just wasn't anything special either. I remember the others books I've read in this series to have a similar lackluster performance and have doubts this author is capable of writing a true gem.

What to do when you are stuck in bed home sick all day? Read, of course.

I tried this book because this paranormal romance author was highly recommended for steamy hot scenes. She absolutely delivered in that arena, but I can't help but think that this book will be forgetable. Maybe if I liked epic fantasy - you know, fantasy set in other world with weird names and complicated geneology - I would have liked this book more. But I don't, so I didn't.

This 'verse is based on the ideas of various intersecting realms/otherworlds/dimensions. On otherworlds, fairies, elves, etc. live out their feudal lifestyles. Some of them sometimes show up in our world, occasionally interbreeding with humans. Witches are real in our world with magical powers galore, and they interact with the elves, demons, etc. that visit. That's the concept.

The mystery side of this plot of this book has a big bad evil-possessed warlock trying to entrap two sister witches. He wants to sacrifice one of them to free an evil god from a prison-type otherworld. He's got a bunch of nasty demons working for him as well. There's a band of good-guy Fae warriors on the witches' side, battling it out in San Francisco with the warlock's minons. The witches, of course, are powerful and determined to stop him.

The romance side of this plot has one of the sister witches (Copper) accidently trap herself in the Fae otherworld in a meadow surounded by a force field of her own backfired magic. Other creatures are trapped with her for the 15 months she's stuck there. Eventually she manages to suck someone else in with her, and wouldn't you know, it's the hottie Fae warrior of her dreams that happens to know all about her because he's been battling the warlock in San Fran. It takes them a while to get out of the entrapment, and in the meantime, she learns the wonders of sex magic. Meanwhile, the warlock is getting it on with a female demon who's possessed a hot woman's body, and also with a dark witch, all the while secretly in love with the other sister witch (Silver). On another plotline, Silver falls in love with a different Fae warrior. And there's also an underground elf king who has the hots for Copper, as well as an arranged marriage that is thwarted by an affair. Eventually, there's a happily ever after ending.

It's really quite a lot to keep straight. Maybe if more time where spent on character development and less on explaining the complicated 'verse and the many interconnecting relationships, I could have developed emotional ties to the characters. But it wasn't, so I didn't. End result: a few highly erotic scenes, but a forgetable story.

I am not liking this book at all. I don't even know if I'm going to be able to finish it. So far, every time I sit down to try to read, I end up merely skimming. The writing is awful, as are the characters. I'm no longer reading the book so much as I am reading my money--unless it gets much better towards the middle, I don't recommend it to anyone.

The sex scenes were kind of badly written and the "fight" where the leads break apart and leave before they get back together was SO friggin' contrived. I mean, I get it. It serves a narrative function but it felt like clockwork, like it HAD to happen at that exact moment instead of it being an organic moment and not before a whole lot of boning. OOOPS?

Copper Ashcroft becomes imprisoned in a bubble in Otherworld when a spell backfires. She spends more than a year trying all kinds of spells to get released until one day a spell catches a passing D'Danann warrior and pulls him in. Tiernan is a Lord of the D'Danann who has discovered that his fiance is pregnant and in love with another. He has vowed to somehow break the engagement without dishonoring his fiance. But on his way to help the witches of San Francisco repel the dark side he is captured by Copper. All things change with their growing attraction and need to escape the bubble. This volume of the series has more to do with these issues and less of the evil sex scenes found in the first volume. Better form of erotica. Looking forward to more of the series.

I was a bit lukewarm about the first book in this series, but enjoyed this one a lot. Once again things are not particularly resolved, but (most of) the heroes live to fight another day. (Trying to avoid spoilers). I appreciated Copper's feistiness and her growing faith in her abilities. A good read.

The Dark Sorcery series continues with The Seduced, Copper Ashcroft’s story. I highly recommend you read the series in order, starting with The Forbidden, to have the full understanding of the overall storyline and the details and background on all the characters involved. Otherwise, I think you will be lost in chaos and not able to truly enjoy the book. This is a thrilling, fast-paced series full of activity, including action, suspense, and romance. It will keep you on the edge-of-your-seat as you read.

If you have read Silver’s story in The Forbidden, Copper’s story picks up where it ended. Life goes on for Silver, Hawk, the other witches, and warriors as they continue to search for a way to stop Darkwolf and his evil minions and Silver still holds on to the hope that her sister, Copper, is alive and will return someday; she received a message telling her so and she refuses to believe otherwise. She will see her sister again. All the while we learn about what happened to Copper on the night she disappeared 15 months prior and where she has been and what she has been doing since. She misses her family, her city and her life in general and she refuses to stop trying to get home. She feels herself growing stronger with time and knows before long she will succeed and be free. From the dream-visions she has been having she knows it must be soon because something dark and sinister is coming for her and her sister and she must get free in time to help her sister and the others fight the evil closing in. While she has been away, she has also met some magical new allies that will help guide and assist her and the others when it matters most. As the dark forces get closer to their goal her dream-visions become more vivid and terrifying. From the disturbing images she sees she cannot help but wonder if this will be a battle she will survive or if fighting Darkwolf and his minions will ultimately bring about her demise.

Tiernan is a Tuatha D’Danann warrior who answered Silver’s summons for aid and crossed over from Otherworld with several other warriors to fight Darkwolf and his followers and stop them from bringing forth an ultimate evil that will destroy them all. While waiting for Silver and the other witches to use their gifts to try to foresee what is to come he cannot help but study and envy the bond between Silver and Hawk, his brother warrior. Though he sees similarities between himself and his brother warrior, there is one major thing that stands out…he is nobility and Lord of the House of Cathal in Otherworld. Upon completion of their mission he has duties and responsibilities to return to in his world and has no time for dalliances with humans otherwise being a means to an end. However, every time Silver mentions her sister or he glances at the picture of her he feels unsettled and tightness in his chest and all thoughts of duty and obligation leave his mind. When he finally comes face to face with the lovely Copper things become more complicated as their attraction and feelings grow. How can he feel for her and perform his duty to his family and how will she act when she learns the truth?

As Copper’s dream-visions grow stronger and become clearer it will take more than warriors’ strength and witchcraft to save the worlds from the terrifying evil that awaits them. This will be the second huge battle of good versus evil and even with all the strength and magic at their disposal, it still may not be enough and all may not survive.
*I was provided with an ARC of this book by the author and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

Bedazzling, Imaginative and Crafty

I recommend you read the previous book in this series Forbidden Magic, before undertaking this book. This story was bewitching and exciting. I was completely entertained, enchanted, entranced and intrigued. Cooper Ashcroft has been trapped in a magical shield in Otherworld for over a year. Slaving and toiling again and again over her spells trying to break the shield has been fruitless. Not only did her magic backfire on her and trap her but she also managed to trap the faerie queen aboveground with her, as well as the Drow King and his followers underground. Meanwhile on earth, Tiernan a Tuath D'Danann warrior has been assisting Silver and the rest of her grey magic coven in locating Darkwolf and Junga. Unbeknownst to himself, he has become attached to Cooper and just as frustrated as Silver over Coopers disappearance. Leaving for Otherworld to take care of some personal business, Tiernan manages to get sucked into Cooper's magic prison with her. Cooper knows she is feisty and smart and will eventually figure a way to free all trapped with her within the bubble. Nevertheless, Darkwolf has found another way to free Balor the god of death and sets out in executing his plan. Unfortunately for him and everyone else involved, Balor is not the only powerful being trapped in Underworld. Darkwolf's actions unleash a powerful being that auspiciously turns the tables on him. My favorite part of the book is how a new reality dawns on Darkwolf. I predict in the next installment we are going to see a whole knew submissive side to Darkwolf and I can't wait. I really hope Junga can break the hold Darkwolf has over her. She is a formidable opponent but her one flaw keeps her underfoot instead of on top. I really enjoyed this book. I particularly loved Cheyenne's description of Otherworld and the Drow King's kingdom. I categorize this as an "almost" hybrid between dark paranormal romance and dark urban fantasy. Like the previous book in the series; had there been less sex (regardless of how hot they all were) it would've been a hybrid. I highly recommend this series to dark urban fantasy readers who have a vast tolerance for lots of sex scenes and don't mind skipping them to stick with the plot. I also look forward to reading the next book in the series Wicked Magic.

I also recommend:
Thorn Queen (Dark Swan, Book 2)
Bloodfever
A Fistful of Charms (The Hollows, Book 4)
Demon Inside
Witchling (Sisters of the Moon, Book 1)

"Seduced by Magic" é a sequela de "Forbidden Magic".

Re-read July, 25

I buy the secondhand edition a weeks ago, despite I already read this a year ago, but I love Cheyenne McCray. And while I give the first read 5 stars, I decide to give just 4 stars for this 2nd read. Not that I'm not enjoyed it, but sometimes I give ratings for some books without thinking (sometimes happen, believe me)

I love Cheyenne McCray's books and stories, and Magic series by her is definitely my fave. She can mix suspense, magic, myth and a sensual story well. Magic series can be categorized for erotica, esp for 2 previous books, this one and the first. But not so heavy, I can said just at mild level. And this series can't be read stand alone, since the event always continue from the first to the last..

What I dislike.. Ummm, maybe because the hero, (almost all of them, really) use to have a long hair and wear leather pants. Not fans of hero like that, I prefer them have a short, military cut and use jeans instead, lol.

If you like paranormal stories with witch character and Irish myth, be sure to include this series to your must to read list

It is official. With this second installment to her Magic series, I am in LOVE with Cheyenne McCray's writing!! Her imagination seems to be limitless! The characters are still engaging, they pull you into their world and you feel everything they do!
I could feel myself "being" Silver Ashcroft in her first book, FORBIDDEN MAGIC. The same for Copper Ashcroft in this book. I loved the contrast in the sisters that Cheyenne created. Her heroine's are strong, intelligent women and their Fae love interests are no less.
Just as with the first book the battle between light and dark continues, the line gets blurred and at times your sympathy wavers. Normally, one doesn't feel much empathy for the clear "bad" guys. I find it intriguing that Cheyenne's writing is able to do just that! This is what makes her world so REAL for me, she is very good at paralleling actual human emotions. How things are not always clear or cut and dry. How there really IS some good and bad in ALL. I very highly recommend this series!!

This is book 2 in the Magic series. There's a lot more plot in this one and the sex isn't quite so graphic - a plus on both! No backdoor action in this book. The story actually took center this time around and it's a pretty interesting ongoing storyline. I'm actually glad that I already had this book in my TBR pile, otherwise I never would have given it a chance after reading book one. This series has an interesting take on the species other than humans - Brownies aren't so cute in this world. Speaking of which, the world building has improved and after this book you'll have a pretty good idea of what's going on in this (Erotic) Urban Fantasy. I might even pursue the rest of this series once my TBR pile is all gone.

I must say I am having a hard time getting through this series. This book was better than its predecessor but it still lacked an "essence" to keep me captivated. I found myself scanning and skipping paragraphs, which is something I NEVER do.

The overall story of the series is interesting so I feel a pull to continue on with the next book in the series. Hopefully, the third book Wicked Magic with keep me captivated. If not I am going to have to drop the series (even though I have purchased all of the books).

I started out liking this series, with interesting characters and premis, but then I got to the second book and realized these books were more erotica than urban fantasy. Not that I don't appreciate some steamy scenes, but there was an over-use of cock and pussy to describe everything. Couldn't get thru the second book even tho I wanted to know what happened. Awesome read!!! A brilliant continuation of the story from book one - Copper and Tiernan are such wonderful characters and their chemistry is off the charts!!!
There is so much going on in this book that you dont get the chance to take a breath - fast paced, intruiging, scary and very very compelling!!!
This is a must read it you like storys with wonderful strong characters and a diverse twisting plot!! Oh and dont forget the scortching hot males lol!!!

This book was okay. I thought Copper (what a name!) was a little (make that a lot) of a HO but then when you've got to get the hero and heroine together, I guess things move very quickly. I really liked Tiernan. I should have read the first book to start with because this book assumes you're familiar with the storyline. So I would recommend the same before you read this book.

I liked this book but at the beginning it kept repeating stuff as if we dont have any retentive capacity. Once it got on with the plot it was good. I'll be honest though if it hadn't been for the very good sex sense I would have given up as I am not overly keen on book that treat the reader like an idiot, but i gave it an extra star for learning along the way and the sex.

This book was way better than the first one. It had a better story, but probably because we re past the intro and into the story now. Tiernan is hot and copper is fiesty. And they have hot sex and make golden bubbles!

The Seduced: I love the whole witches and warlocks. It was a great story of suspense and surprises. The cover is hot and characters were fantastic. I loved this second book the best so far. I love how Cheyenne McCray wrote this story it was so good and she kept the readers on the edge of our seats.
