She doesn’t have time to fall in love….

Lady Henrietta Hopewell, the widowed Marchioness of Tavistock, is one of the most powerful women in London. As the leader of the most prestigious ladies’ club in town, The May Flowers, she holds the course of British politics in the palm of her hand, all while raising her beloved son, Ricky, the current Marquess of Tavistock. Offers of marriage fly her way at every turn, but Henrietta’s heart belongs to only one man.

He doesn’t have the heart for romance….

After a vicious attack just over a year before, Lord Fergus O’Shea is struggling to become half the man he once was. Confined to a wheelchair, dependent on his friends for a home in London, he can think of only one thing—bringing Lord Charles Denbigh, the man behind his attack, to justice. But even as Fergus closes in on Denbigh, every fiber of his being longs for the one thing he knows he can never have, Henrietta.

Henrietta is unwilling to be held at arm’s length, though, and sets out to prove to Fergus that he is more than man enough to satisfy her on every level. But when the scandal of their intensifying relationship puts Henrietta in danger of losing her son, she must choose between the two people who share her heart. And when Lord Denbigh turns out to be the wedge keeping Fergus and Henrietta apart, Fergus must summon up the strength he thinks he’s lost and overcome his physical disabilities to show Henrietta, Denbigh, and the world that true strength comes from the heart.

PLEASE BE ADVISED: Steam level – very spicy!

Lady Henrietta Hopewell, the widowed Marchioness of Tavistock, is a busy and powerful woman. As the leader and founder of the ladies' political society, the May Flowers, she has her finger on the pulse of London politics and is still a devoted mother to her son Ricky, the young Marquess. She's used to receiving marriage offers from all over, but has her sights set on one man only.

Still recovering from a vicious attack the previous year, Lord Fergus O'Shea, the Irish Earl of Ballymena, is confined to a wheelchair and struggling to cope with his newfound dependence on his friends. He's obsessed with bringing down Lord Charles Denbigh, the man responsible for his attack, among other heinous crimes. Fergus longs to be with Henrietta, but knows he is no good for her and that they do not have a future together now. But Henrietta is too strong and determined to be pushed away and shows Fergus that he's still the perfect man for her.

When the solidifying relationship between Henrietta and Fergus is turned into a scandal by her former mother-in-law, Henrietta is in danger of losing her son and must choose between the two people she loves most in the world. When he learns that Denbigh is behind this latest plot to destroy his life, Fergus must find the strength he believed lost and fight for his future and the woman he loves.

I have been shipping Fergus and Henrietta since their characters were first introduced in this series. I was sickened and rather devastated by the attack on Fergus in a previous book and so saddened to see him fighting through a slow and painful recovery. It was great to see him find his strength and courage to seek his own happiness. I was happy to see him finally get justice and his happy ending with Henrietta despite the prejudice, stupidity and complete incompetence that surrounded them in much of society and the court system. I loved this one even if it did put my emotions through the ringer and I can't wait for the next one.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

My review:
Will a stubborn wounded man accept the love offered on a platter by an equally obstinate woman or let his pride spoil everything...

Ah finally !
The story I awaited since the first book in this series. My heart has rooted for Fergus from the very beginning and the dastardly attack he suffered rendered him more lovable.
Henrietta has rebuilt herself as who she is to prove women are not idle creatures without opinions and ideas. But she will learn the hard way, women are still seen as weak soul easily perverted, having to answer and answer to the thumb of men.
And she might have to sacrifice everything she has created, her inner core if she wants to keep her most precious treasure.
Fergus had a long year behind him as he recovered from the ugly assault that left him crippled, and as much he has been left disabled, his pride and ego are what keep him from giving in his attraction for Henrietta.
Plus his need for revenge eats him from the inside and obscures his view.
I loved Henrietta, she is a woman who knows what she wants and does not shy away to get her way. And she wants Fergus.
Their relationship is one of witty banters and will’s fights but always with respect as Henrietta wants to bring back Fergus to the world of the living.
Mrs Merry Farmer with this third book offered us a wonderful tale of resilience and acceptance.

I’m sorry to say that I was not terribly fond of this one. I’ve enjoyed other Merry Farmer books before and was looking forward to this one, so it bums me out.

The main issue is the complete sad-sack-ness of Fergus, who should really be a more vibrant character. Yes, he has to use a wheelchair in a less-than-accessible world - much less than today, even - but good god, so self-pitying. Who would want to hang out with him, indeed?

And beyond that, there’s an overall thread of pity throughout the story, which is an absolute no in my book. The heroine pities him! Using the actual word “pity”! How can you make a hero seem virile and desirable after that? What’s more, the heroine pushes his chair around a lot without bothering to ask, and that made me itch. He’s already fighting for control of his own life and mobility, and he lets her act like a damn nurse.

[Side note: I believe that most people with paralysis in the 1800s didn’t survive very long because of infection and pressure sores and all that - let alone get out into society. So it’s not terribly realistic from that angle, either.]

A much better read from every angle is Sheri Humphries’ A Hero to Hold. Similar era, similar level of mobility after a traumatic injury (and corresponding level of acceptance in society), but much more appealing and respectful of all parties.

How could a perfect kiss be scandalous! A heartwarming story of loss and endurance while never giving up. I have been looking forward to Fergus' story and it was truly amazing!
Widowed Lady Henrietta, is raising her son and staying busy running a ladies political society, The May Flowers. Her heart has been engaged by Lord Fergus O'Shea for years and they had been slowly forming an attachment, but then he was attacked and left in a wheelchair.
Even though he fights it and feels unworthy, he cares very much about Henrietta. But if her vile mother in law and the man who orchestrated the attack on Fergus have their way, they will take Ricky, Henrietta's son from her to raise as the next Marquess.
Can Fergus realize he is more than his injuries and become the man Henrietta needs? Would he ever get revenge for his attack?
An emotional roller coaster that is worth every single twist and turn. My heart went out to Fergus, but I just knew these two were perfect for each other. Merry Farmer does it again in one of my favorite so far in this series!!

We.. this is the first time reading this author and I didn’t know this but this book starts by already a story progressing from previous books. Fergus and Henrietta are already close and spending time with each other with their friends around. I was thrown off right from the beginning since there was no build up to each character to me to connect to them as an individual. It’s good but I felt I was missing out and the steam level was way to low for me.

Henrietta and Fergus' story is one filled with drama, politics, a mother's love, passions, friends that have your back, as well as a couple of villains you just want to strangle!! I could barely stand to put the book down once I started reading it, I couldn't wait to see what happened next! Merry Farmer did an excellent job writing this one and I must say, it's one of my favorites of hers.

Henrietta is such a strong woman and when she faces losing her son to her evil mother in law, having Fergus pushing her away, as well as seeing her May Flowers Club slip through her fingers, she straightens her spine and takes it all on! Fergus is confined to a wheelchair, having lost the use of his legs from a brutal beating and although he loves Henrietta, he doesn't want to saddle her with half a man, as he thinks of himself. Passions flare amidst Fergus' need for vengeance and Henrietta's need to save her son.

I love books where the hero or the heroine are disabled in some way, whether it be some sort of physical impairment or scars or whatever. Before anybody shoots me, I've got a physical impairment myself, so it isn't like it's morbid curiosity or that I'm enjoying seeing the characters struggle and suffer with their differences. I like to see the characters be strong and overcome what others might think as impossible and this book did not disappoint on that level.

Fergus O'Shea was able bodied, a military veteran, was in love with the widow Henrietta Tavistock, he had the world by the tail until an attack put him in a wheelchair. He knew who was behind it and was going to great extremes to see the man brought to justice. For the first part of the book, he wallowed in self-pity and was consumed with revenge. Henrietta got tired of it and so did I. Good thing she gave him the attitude adjustment he needed early in the book.

But Henrietta has her own problems to deal with. Her all-female political group, the May Flowers, is being undermined by a jealous big mouth and her cronies. In addition to that, she was caught in a scandalous situation that may cost her custody of her son. She was scandalous and didn't care what anybody thought. I get that she was a progressive thinker and acted in a progressive way that assaulted the sensibilities of the ton, but it nearly cost her everything.

One thing that drew me into the story was the accurate depictions of Fergus's frustrations of not being able to get up and down steps on his own, not being able to see anything but backs and butts of people in a crowd, not able to go anywhere or do everything he wanted because of the limitations of the wheelchair, but at the end his upper body strength saved the day and he came out the hero.

This was a good book and I enjoyed it, but I gave it four stars because of lack of character description. Fergus was a red head, Irish, in a wheelchair, and was missing an eye, but what color was his existing eye? I waited and waited for that and if it was ever mentioned, I missed it. As for Henrietta, all I saw was that she was blonde. There were no other character descriptions of any other characters and if there were, they were subtle and not noteworthy.

Another issue I had was the language was a bit too modern for the time. Henrietta said ass instead of arse on several occasions while other characters used arse. I don't know if that was just part of her liberal thinking and ways or what was going on there. I know that won't bother some, but I prefer the more traditional lingo in historical fiction.

Good book overall.

Goodness, I loved this story! No, it's more than a story, it's a life lesson. In our society we take so much for granted and we forget of the poeple who had forged a road for us. So many times we think things are unfair and still there are so many times that we ourselves have to be the Henriettas and Furgeses of the world.
I hade to fight for a position at work where I was so much more qualified and had so much on the job experiennce in a field where men were the more obvious candidates and when applying for positions were shot down by either Management or people who were scared of what I would require of them that they drew up petitions against my appointment and was then told by Management that they did not want to loose me thus would keep me in a Holding Patern in a lower position so they could still have access to my knowledge without compensation.
Then later due to work related burn out, I was diagnosed with Major Depression and was declared Medically unfit for work. I now own a Bower as a Working dog to calm me in stressful times, but I can not take her with me as seeing eye dogs as only they are allowed in Shops and Businesses. Thus the fight for the right to have Mental disabilities granted the same rights as Physical disabilities is now in the same place as thoughs that were fought then.
Merry, thank you for opening our eyes to what we need to be thankful for today due to pioneers who were willing to fight battels against worse odds than we can think off.

Fergus is a perfectly imperfect growly-yet-sweet hero!

Henrietta has been wanting to steam up the windows with Fergus since before he suffered an attack that made him rethink his value as a man. A widow with a young son, she has her life pretty well set up and she just needs to convince Fergus he's everything she needs. Until one public kiss brings just enough of a hint of scandal to unleash a conspiracy between her late husband's mother and cousin to remove her son from her custody. It doesn't help that the cousin is also the man who orchestrated the attack on Fergus, though the proof of his involvement is still just out of reach.

There's enough situational angst here for several books, yet the author seamlessly blends it all together to create a captivating story with well-developed characters and a romance that defies all convention. As with the other books in this series, there's just enough social justice commentary to make the reader gratefully acknowledge the advances made in the past century. The story takes quite a few unexpected twists and turns before finally culminating in a triumphant HEA.

It's a delightful read with enough steam to melt your kindle and enough heart to leave you with a serious book hangover. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

This instalment of the series focuses on Lady Henrietta Hopewell. She's a widow and is the leader The May Flowers ladies club, whilst raising her son Ricky. She's had many offers of marriage, largely due to her wealth and position in society but she's got her heart set on one man, Lord Fergus O'Shea.

Lord Fergus O'Shea was viciously attacked a year ago that has left him confined to a wheelchair. He's struggling to become the man he was whilst seeking justice and longing for Henrietta, the woman he can never have.

Henrietta sets out to prove to Fergus that he is more than man enough to satisfy her on every level. But when the scandal of their intensifying relationship puts Henrietta in danger of losing her son, she must choose between the two people who share her heart. Fergus must summon up the strength he thinks he’s lost and overcome his physical disabilities to show Henrietta, his attacker, and the world that true strength comes from the heart.

This had the ability to be a real heart warming story but I didn't like how Henrietta 'pities' Fergus (and actually uses the term). And whilst Fergus has suffered a traumatic event in his life I didn't like the constant depressive personality. It felt like it dragged down the feeling of the book.

I received a free copy as an ARC for an honest review.

Third book in the May Flowers series by Merry Farmer. Really liked the first book in the series, second book was fair as was this one.

This book features Henrietta Hopewell, Marchioness of Tavistock and Lord Fergus O'Shea. Henrietta fell in love with Fergus before his attack and has since been trying to help him in anyway that she can. Fergus has been an utter arse throughout the entire thing and keeps trying to push Henrietta away.

Meanwhile, Fergus and his friends are getting closer to gathering the information needed to bring the person responsible for the attack that took one of his eye and cost him the use of his legs.

As Henrietta tries to make Fergus see that he is still all male, her mother-in-law is working against Henrietta to take her son from her. And the May Flowers are being further divided into two factions.

Will Henrietta be forced to give up her son? Will Fergus' attackers be brought to justice? What will become of the May Flowers?

Henrietta has not given up on Fergus, but when her hostile mother-in-law threatens to take her son from her, accusing Henrietta of being unfit, it seems she may give up on Fergus after all. Trying to avoid spoilers I will note there is a contradiction between Henrietta's pronouncements (my son is the most important person in my life) and her actions (hardly discreet in her interaction with Fergus AFTER being threatened by the dowager marchioness). There is another large lapse in her behavior with respect to her son's safety. (Eye-roll worthy)
Henrietta is so caught up in her relationship with Fergus she also neglects the May Flowers, bringing more turmoil.

Revised from 3* to 2* on further reflection on the disabled rep.

TW for ablism needed - yes, should be expected in general for writing about disabled experiences, but it was also from people close to the disabled person with no indication that their approach was ableist.

There’s a lot of non-consensual touch of the disabled person and their mobility devise from people who are supposed to love the person, including in a sexual setting.

In general, could have done with some sensitivity readers for the disabled representation.

In comparison to earlier books in the series, the love story fell flat as well, so in general not my fave.

A good story plot but so many characters, it was hard to keep up with who was who and, I would have preferred less steam.(my bad, for not reading the fine print at the bottom of the book description)
I would have thoroughly enjoyed reading about how the fallout Lord Benigh’s villainy, affected his horrible sister, Claudia.(that really should have been covered, unless it picks that up in the next book in the series???)

Not a fav

I have enjoyed the series up to this point… the pattern that I am seeing develop with the female leads is becoming disappointing.. They,at start out strong, but by the middle they are completely weak to the point I’m scratching my head screaming WTF happen. Then at the end they are back to being strong… NOPE it’s making me nuts! One more chance is all I will give this series and that is because I love Ms Farmers book… but I’m not feeling this one at all…

Wheelchair Irishman. Noncon on her pushing him where he didn’t want to go. She forcibly undresses him in public. She even turns over his wheelchair with him in it. The first time they have sex is also dubcon. The villains and the politics were too much and boring. DNF

The Scandal Of A Perfect Kiss is a spectacular historical romance by Merry Farmer. Ms. Farmer has produced a book that is well-written and packed with lovable characters. Henrietta and Fergus' story is loaded with drama, humor, sizzle, action and suspense. I loved this book from cover to cover and look forward to my next book by Merry Farmer. The Scandal Of A Perfect Kiss is book 3 of The May Flowers Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

Of Limitations and Strength

I have read other books by this author, and while I have really loved some, I have had problems with others. So I didn't know what to expect with this book. I found myself pleasantly surprised. I absolutely loved the two main characters, Henrietta and Fergus, as well as the supporting cast of characters. Henrietta is a strong woman who is willing to fight for what she believes is right and for what she wants, whether personally or publicly. Fergus is the epitome of the wounded hero, still adjusting to life after a vicious attack robbed him of his ability to use his legs. At the beginning of the book, Fergus struggles with his limitations and is determined to live alone rather than be a burden to any woman. Over the course of the book, he has much to learn, including that the strength of a man does not reside wholly within his physical body. We have two villains in this book, Henrietta’s mother-in-law as well as the man responsible for the attack on Fergus. I liked that the author included some parliamentary history that was going on at this time. It was woven well into the plot. I did think, however, that the tone of the book at times was a bit too self-righteous. It is definitely a danger in historical novels to attempt to frame the past as we would the present, given our modern sensibilities, but that doesn't do the past appropriate justice. Sometimes history is ugly when we look back a hundred or more years, but we have to let it look as it actually was back then, not as we wished it were. Despite that, though, I found this to be a good read as I thoroughly enjoyed the main characters and their group of friends and the hard-won HEA.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

The Scandal of a Perfect Kiss is the third book in the May Flowers Book series. It was perfectly fine as a standalone and I didn’t feel like I missed anything without reading the prior books. The plot was good, and the characters were developed well. Fergus O’Shea had been attacked the previous year and was now confined to a wheelchair. He was determined to have revenge against, Lord Denbigh, the man behind his attack. He didn’t feel worthy of the feelings that had developed between himself and Henrietta Hopewell before his attack. Henrietta didn’t believe that the accident had lessened Fergus’s appeal. She was firm in her belief that he was wallowing in self pity and needed to see that he was still a worthy man. When her son was removed from her custody, she was desperate to have him returned. Her previous mother in law and Lord Denbigh tried to tarnish her reputation and she had to choose between the two things she loved the most, her son and Fergus. The story was interesting, and the side characters contributed to plot. The group of friends seemed to be very supportive of one another and brought the book together.

Plots to harm, danger and action too.
There are authors whom you like but forget their names and others you remember their names because their books are not great. Then you have an author whose name you remember because of their talent. Merry Farmer is one of those authors very gifted and someone I always enjoy reading. This book is a fine example of her talent. We have a man who had been attacked and now lived in a wheelchair and a young woman who is strong-willed who knows she wants Lord Fergus O’Shea. Henrietta does and what Fergus will do makes for wonderful reading. There is some spice in the story too. The author has the characters on a roller coaster of emotions and I love how she wrote the prejudice and stupidity that surrounds them. It is a book I highly recommend. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

The Scandal of a Perfect Kiss by Merry Farmer was another exciting and enjoyable read, this is the third in The May Flowers series and I absolutely loved it. This was a story with a whole lot of heart and plenty of emotional twist and turns that kept me hooked. The characters were fantastic and so darn likable. This was Lady Henrietta Hopewell and Lord Fergus O’Shea’s story and in my opinion well worth the wait. She is the widowed Marchioness of Tavistock, one powerful woman with marriage proposals all around but her heart belongs to only one man. Lord Fergus is struggling with the after affects from a vicious attack. While he has an eye on the one responsible he also longs for the one woman he thinks he can’t have. A wonderful story that I highly recommend.

Wow… Super Great Read… defiantly a page turner. The Scandal of a Perfect Kiss by Merry Farmer is book 3 in The May Flowers series. This is one of my favorite trope, wounded hero and a strong heroine. I can’t say enough on how much I enjoyed reading this story. It’s is very original and you can’t help but cheer on the heroine. The writing is excellent and the descriptions are very clear. This story has a cripple, women’s rights, a horrible mother-in-law and her nephew, revenge, a child taken from their mother, court, good friends, being stubborn, anger, self pity and love. I so highly recommend this book, you won’t be disappointed.

Love💘 In Time⏳

This is a great ADULT Victorian Historical Romance💕 and Crime💀 drama book about Henrietta💃💋, a strong widowed Marchioness caring for her young son👨, the Marquess. She is also heavily involved in Parliament politics, as much as a woman could be in those days.

She gets into a scandal when she begins seeing Lord Fergus O'Shea🐺🍆⛲, an Irishman crippled in a deliberate explosion attempt on his life. His one goal for losing an eye and the use of his legs and being confined to a wheelchair the rest of his life, is of course revenge on The man he is sure did the crime, Lord Charles Denbigh👺.

The liaison between Henrietta💃💋 and Fergus🐺🍆⛲ nearly costs Henrietta💃💋 custody of her own son!

I wish I could give this book ten stars. So many things in this world are unfair even today but during the time of Henrietta's life, it was brutal. To think a woman had no rights when it came to their children. Merry Farmer always brings us a beautiful love story. This one came with tragedy and loss but is still a love story like no other. We get to feel the pain of not having choices that not only the women have but also see the life the Irish people faced as well. The history we gain from her books is always so much more than we expect in a romance but makes the story exceed all expectations. Fergus and Henny are such a delightful, beguiling couple.

Loved the story of Fergus and Henrietta and how they finally get their HEA. Fergus, who has lost the use of legs after being viciously attached, realizes that he is not as useless as a man as he had thought. Henrietta has finally gotten him to realize that he is most important in her life and that she loves him. Denbigh is finally going to be held accountable for the attack on Fergus and the nobles he tried to kill in an explosion. The story is well written, entertaining and keeps your attention. It is full of action and drama which makes this a fantastic story and one worth reading as I would highly recommend this book.

I have been waiting on Fergus’ story and this story is far beyond anything I could have imagined. I thought the portrayal of Fergus being in a wheelchair after a vicious attack and Henrietta just trying to hold onto her family and trying to live her life was realistic. Even though they loved each other very much, not everything in life is perfect and I like that it was shown in this story. I have read many of Merry’s stories and this is my favorite so far.

Flirting turns to a perfect kiss

Lady Henrietta has been flirting and kissing Fergus way before his encounter with Lord Denbigh thugs cost him the use of his legs! Fergus is angry and feels like his life is over and only wants revenge! One house party they give into those feel feelings! The price they pay is it worth the scandal that follows and can Fergus rise up to be the man she needs when Henrietta world crashes down and even her friends are against her? Oh the scandal of it all will love prevail?

I couldn't put my finger on why this book felt off to me, until I finished it completely and thought about it.

There's no love story in this book. We're told the MCs fell in love prior to the book's start, but we're not privy to those scenes. So much of this book is spent on what's happening to the MCs externally that we never see the relationship and love story between them grow. We're in the bedroom with them and that's really it.

The book isn't written poorly, but if I'm reading a romance novel, I want to watch the characters fall in love.... and that didn't happen on these pages.

I was looking forward to Henrietta and Fergus's story and i was not disappointed. Henrietta was the right woman for Fergus after he lost use of his legs. She does not give up on him and makes him realize he has worth. With Henrietta's in danger of losing custody of her son and unrest in London testing , Fergus's thirst for revenge against the man responsible for his injury may put their relationship to test. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
