America's favorite canine is back in an all new story which features Lassie at her heroic best. Includes a touching re-telling of the story of Christ's birth and powerful lesson in faith and prayer.
Earl Henry Hamner Jr. (born July 10, 1923 in Schuyler, Virginia), was an American television writer and producer (sometimes credited as Earl Hamner), best known for his work in the 1970s and 1980s on the long-running CBS series The Waltons and Falcon Crest. As a novelist, he was best known for Spencer’s Mountain, which was inspired by his own childhood and formed the basis for both the film of the same name and the television series The Waltons, for which he provided voiceover narration.
Started early with the christmas book. Loved the drawings. Story was okay. This book is more for a younger people. I had hoped a better book from this writer.
I love this book! I was-and still am-a big fan of Lassie! I saw this book at Walmart when I was still little-maybe not quite yet 10-I can’t remember!😅-and I have read this book during every holiday to myself or with my family! I keep it safe and it still looks new with only a few scrapings on the book jacket-but it never gets old or tiring to read! Such a great book for any fan of Lassie or dogs in general! 🐾
I think I like this story as much as my nephew does. There's excitement, danger, and love, all mixed with a warm cozy feeling, and wonderful pictures! It even has the true story of Christmas woven into the pages. Even though this is a children's picture book, the characters are real and the story is well written.
I don't review every picture book we read aloud in our home, but I wanted to remind myself not to check this one out of the library again in the future. I'm not old enough to have watched the Lassie television shows back in the day, but know enough about them to realize that this must have been an episode reformatted into a children's book. In order for the author to feel like we could enjoy this as a standalone story, he felt the need to offer all kinds of background information on the Martin family that made it long enough to reduce its enjoyability.
It differs from other modern stories adapted from film in that it included a retelling of the biblical Nativity story, and also includes an element of suspense and danger.
With the many wonderful stories of the Christmas season available to read, we won't be revisiting this one.
I remember watching the Lassie shows when I was little. This book surprised me. if you want to know the true meaning of Christmas with little bit of adventure mixed in, read this story! I hope it will bless you as it did me.
The only thing I enjoyed about this children's book was the illustrations. They offered more of a story than the actual text in the book. The story included unnecessary information and ramblings about different characters in the story. It felt like the author was pumping in random background information to make the story flow better, which actually had the opposite effect. It was a challenge to finish the book. I do not recommend this children's book.
Lassie A Christmas story by Earl Hammer I recall Earl Hammer is the one who wrote the Walton's series and thought I'd listen to this one and knew I'd enjoy it. Vermont, a day before Christmas: Timmy and his dog Lassie watch the snow fall. Their grandfather showed up and they leave to go cut down the Christmas tree for that year. In the snow they find many animals footprints, even the mountain lion. When they find the tree Timmy and Lassie had picked while picking berries one spring day they do come up to the lion and Lassie with his barking sends the lion on his way. A blue spruce! Ruth, Timmy's mother goes out to get a free things before the blizzard is to hit. She gets bails of hay for the deer herd as they won't go able to get much with all the heavy snow in Hudson Falls. Lassie and Timmy set out for their grandfather's house and Lassie runs to find Ruth. Andrew from the store helps them to go find Ruth. Lassie is close to where Ruth's truck went off the road and he gets wet in the river. Lassie scares the lion away from the deer and goes to find the boys where he drags Timmy in the direction of where the truck was. The tree has been finished and the nativity set up and Ruth looks at the bright star in the sky and thanks God they are safe. I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).
