Growing up as a shifter, you are always taught that finding your mate is an amazing thing. What happens though when your mate rejects you? When you don’t get that happily ever after you’ve always dreamed of? Will fate somehow bring your souls together or will you forever be alone?
USA Today Bestselling author, Jewels Arthur, writes steamy paranormal/fantasy RH Romances, that often feature very sassy females. Much like herself. She lives in Central Illinois with her husband, daughter, thirteen-year-old kitty, and a pup named Eevee.
Swoons are her jam. She spends all her time watching TV/movies, reading books, and listening to music that makes her swoony. When she isn't doing that she is drooling over her fictional characters or making book-related graphics.
Jewels has thousands of story ideas always flowing through her brain and she can't wait to share them all with her readers. One thing is for sure, they will all feature steam, smut, and swoons.
Well, first off, this is an anthology. That really should have been indicated in the blurb or on the cover. Now, usually, I enjoy anthologies because who doesn't love short stories. They're a wonderful way to get acquainted with unknown authors. However, I absolutely hated this collection. The only thing going for this collection was all featured rejections. Now, that said, I feel it prudent to say it was no fault of the authors. Anthologies, in my opinion, should be a collection of completed stories. There should be a beginning, middle, and ending...not a hint of a cliffhanger in sight. What this book contained were NOT short stories. They were reminiscent of "work's in progress". This was more a collection of "sample chapters" rather than structured stories. Every single one was incomplete. It was frustrating because I hate cliffhangers! I never would have downloaded this if I'd known that not-a-one would offer conclusions. In short: it was a thoroughly unsatisfying read.
In truth, it's difficult to give an honest review because nothing (storywise) appears in its entirety. How can you formulate an honest opinion off of incomplete work? How are we supposed to judge an authors ability without reading a completed story from start to finish? I felt "barely rejected" was the most promising of the stories featured. However, they all felt mediocre without a proper conclusion. If the goal of this anthologies was to drum up or hook new readers for these authors; I'd say it was a complete failure. I feel no desire to see if these authors have other published works available, which I would normally do after a good anthology.
For further reference, if you're going release an anthology please do it right. Feature stories that are completed so readers can get a true feel for an author. Balance out how many "cliffhangers" - if any - to include. Too many and you'll leave the reader frustrated and turned off...which is what happened with this one.
This anthology is a group of short stories, a chance to highlight these authors and give you an introduction into their series. SHORT stories is a key word you need to keep in mind, so they will be fast paced. The main trope is rejected mates, one of my faves, so I had high hopes for these stories.
First book is “bearly rejected” by Jewels Arthur: I have to say I actually really enjoyed this story. It does end on a cliffhanger and I was a little upset to see there is NOTHING hinting at when the next book will be released. This book is about a bobcat shifter who is rejected by her fated mate and therefore cast out of her pack. Alone and on the run, she comes across 4 bear shifters and things hit off pretty quickly. For a short story, I actually really enjoyed the characters and I’m anxious to see what happens in the next book since we know a showdown is going to happen with her old pack. This one book makes the whole anthology worth it.
The second book is “halloversary” by Amanda Cashure: Okay, I’m going to admit I just don’t understand the point of this book lol it is written in multiple POVs, so I expected that those characters would end up together... they don’t. At least not in this book anyways, it does end on a cliffhanger... I think. I mean, the guys literally can’t stand the main girl and even try to kill her? And the main girl is already in love with another man... and that’s it. The main girl wants to find mates before her father forces her to be with men he chooses. She can’t be with the guy she loves because her dad threatened him away. The guys she chooses want nothing to do with her and even set her up so they can attack and kill her. They head out on the run, and the guy the main girl is in love with shows up and saves her and they head off to be mated. I mean the beginning really makes you think she’s going to end up with the group of guys, not her ex. So again.. I don’t understand the point of this book lol was it just to show her getting back together with her ex and for the guys to tell the story of how they got together and formed their quad? I honestly don’t know, but it’s a BIG no from me. ALL of the characters were extremely unlikable.
The third book was “turn about” by Miki Ward: Okay, this was a cute, happy go lucky, insta love kind of short story. It was a simple and quick read. There was no heat, no passion. The author has a very “formal” writing style. Like, they’re having tea with the Queen kind of formal. But, if you enjoy a quick and light, happy and safe romance, this ones for you. No cliffhanger. Not RH.
I just couldn’t continue, so I don’t have reviews for the last few books. I do plan to take a few days away and then come back and read the others and then I will come back and update my review. Overall, the idea of this anthology is awesome!! Get several authors to all put in a book with the same trope to showcase their writing and get readers hooked on the first book so they go and look up each individual series to continue on. It’s definitely a good idea, just like when authors make the first book of their series free so you get hooked and then have to buy the rest of the series to coNtinue on lol I would love to read more like this, these short stories just weren’t that great though. Ugh I hate saying that but it’s my honest opinion. I do plan to continue the bearly rejected series though! I looked it up on amazon but couldn’t find the book by itself, maybe I just missed it? But if not, this anthology is worth it just for the “bearly rejected” book!
I just read the first story so more reviews will be coming in the future, as this is one interesting anthology. All the way on the bottom is the list of the rest of the stories. *Bearly Rejected by Jewels Arthur It was a pleasure to read yet another story by this author, and I love the fact that it is completely different from her previous ones. And the best part is that the author announces the continuation of the story. This is somewhat tragic and yet a hopeful story of a Alana, a bobcat rejected by her fated mate and shunned and banished by her clowder. Never properly socialised or taught how to take care of herself, now completely on her own, she finds herself in quite a predicament. And then she accidentally meets four equally heartbroken bears and the real adventure starts. The author did a fantastic job describing shifter politics and antiquated views on female population and relationships. Here we have a young woman who gets no right to choose, and then humiliated because she gets rejected. Okay I have to admit in this sense, there is a full equality of messed up for both males and females, neither fares better when it comes to choosing, rejection or banishment. But in this particular case, an amazing young woman is completely denied any possibility of personal growth as she is only expected to grow up to serve as a commodity, servant and a breeder to a man her parents chose for her in cooperation with his parents. So, when given an opportunity to grow, she thrives. But there is this sad part that regardless of the fact that she is away from the people who raised her and humiliated her, she cannot escape the conditioning and the emotional oppression she suffered her whole life, and she still sees herself as not good enough and that she has to keep proving herself. I wonder if she will ever be able to shed that feeling and be free to be herself. I devoured the story and can't wait to read more. There is a very open and very interesting ending and I am eager to find out in which direction the story will be going. *Hallow-Versary by Amanda Cashure *Turn About by Miki Ward *Their Forbidden Secret by Bella Claire This was an interesting read and I am curious to find out what happens next. The author promises a sequel. *A Twisted Secret by Alexis Taylor and Beth Hendrix
For those of you who are new to anthologies, or have not hard the term before. An anthology is a collection of short stories written by different authors.
A twisted rejection is a collection of shifter stories. Shifters of all shapes and sizes.
Bearly Rejected By Jewels Arthur.
This little short story I think I the best one out of the whole anthology. This is the one which has left me trying to find the next part of the story to find out what happens to Alana and her bears.
I have found and followed Jewels on social media to find out what other great books she has written.
HOLLOW-VERSARY By Amanda Cashure.
I didnt get this short story at all. I just found it difficult to follow a d found in several places through out I kept losing the plot and struggling to keep up with the many male characters. Tas, puss, Flynn, Steve, Lochy I'm not sure if there is more.. Then Benny and our lead character Sharon...
I found I wasnt too keen on this one but never the less, what's not my cup of tea doesnt mean to say it's not someone else's.
Their forbidden secret. By Bella claire.
I skipped this one for.no apparent reason..but have just started and a few pages in so will update the review accordingly asap.
A twisted secret By Alexis Taylor & Beth Hendrix
Now this short story is sooo good. One of those.i wish some how wasnt part of an anthology. I would live to get my hands on a complete version of this. It's such a great and gripping read. Luckily the continuation of this story is featured in " A twisted rejection Part 2" anthology.
Overall I quite enjoyed this anthology. Well worth reading as a few of these stories were awesome.
All these stories are an introduction, none are complete stories and are all about rejection and twisted love. This was a great way to find some new authors and books to read.
- Bearly Rejected by Jewels Arthur This is a fast burn RH. Alana has been rejected by her fated and cast out by her family. She meets 3 bear shifters who also know rejection. This was a great introduction to Alana and her 3 hot bears.
- Hallow-Versary by Amanda Cashure This is a prequel to Mating My Mob. The guys are looking for their catalyst to join their mob, whilst also working as hunters. The writing was great and the banter between the guys was hilarious, but I got confused with he lack of any world building.
- Turn About by Miki Ward This is a very short story about a panther shifter who dreams of meeting her love after dumping a guy who only used her. The story felt more like a summary more than a story and lacked any depth.
- Their Forbidden Secret by Bella Claire A lovely little story about a princess who is being forced to marry a power hungry shifter who is not her mate. Only to find her actual mates.
- A Twisted Secret by Alex Taylor &Beth Hendrix An interesting introduction story of a human growing up within a wolf pack and being rejected by her mate from a neighbouring pack. A lot was packed into this short introduction to Mika's story.
Sadly i havent read the whole book yet so this is my review for
Bearly Rejected - Jewels Arthur
*Spoiler Alert* Bobcat Alana (FMC) has been shunned by her own clowder (pack). On finding herself alone she finds herself confronted by four bears - Dax, Aiden, Rowan and Liam. I actually loved Alana. My heart went out to her and how she was treated by not only her family but her vile Ex-mate Jason. I rarely hate characters but he was an exception. Him and Madessi. Saving grace was her steamy, protective and loving relationship with her bears. Its a great start and with that knockout ending im dying for book 2 to see how this plays out. A fab read
5 stories all tell of rejection in different ways with cliffhangers that leave you wanting more.
Growing up with your mate your whole life to find out he no longer wants you…. “You don’t belong here anymore. You’ve been shunned”
A one night stand with an Alpha to be rejected….“Please don’t get needy, I only told you that you were my mate to get you into bed”
I have never had so many emotions while reading, Alphaholes &Love with a twisted turn of events you never expect. Each story pulls you in and leaves you wanting more. This anthology is a must read and an instant one-click. You will not be disappointed.
When I first read the synopsis of this book, I was really intrigued. The concept of being rejected by your one true mate is one that interests me. But when I first started reading this book, I realized that it is a collection of books rather than one specific story. Overall only one story dealt with rejected mates, and I ended up being left disappointed with how short the books were. I'm going to rate the stories individually. Bearly Rejected: 4/5 Stars Hallow-Versary: 1/5 Stars Turn About: 2/5 Stars Their Forbidden Secret: 3.75/5 Stars A Twisted Secret: 2/5 Stars
There are not a lot of rejected mates series out there. I mean they write the ones where they turn them away at first, but there is rarely an all out refusal of the bond altogether. If you are looking for something like that, well you can find it here. This anthology was awesome. It had every scenario. I was so disappointed when it was over. I absolutely loved every minute of it. It was spectacular and I’m super excited about the next one.
I was so tempted to rate this less than the stories deserved because they all ended so abruptly and left me hanging! Who knew how vicious and hurtful twisted rejections could be and how much damage it could leave behind? All I know is that these are powerful tales that are exactly what I love reading!
Like all anthologies there’ll be some authors whose work you enjoy reading and others not so much and this is pretty much typical but overall it was a good read with some of the books leaving me wanting to read more after reading them whilst others were good to read but didn’t leave me yearning for more
The stories were all rushed with barely any plot lines. The reading felt as though I was back in high school making my first attempt at a novel. Grammar was great, but the stories need more body and depth.
Middle school level writing, I actually feel embarrassed for the authors. They're not even short stories, they are strings of events with no real plots.
I have read this book that had a piece done by Amanda cashure and it was amazing. I loved her style in writing and they way that the story just flowed together. She definitely has a way with words.
This book was freaking amazing. This is am emotional rollercoaster. The sadness that all the characters display is heartbreaking. So when they stumble across Alana in a cave they are curious. Neither one imagined what would happen next. Unfortunately, Alana's past comes back into the picture.
I definitely want more of this book. It had me from the first chapter. So I will be watching out for this book.
Hallow-versary---Sharon, Flynn, Steve, Puss, Lochy, Tas
So this talks about Sharon not wanting to listen to her Dad. She doesn't want him choosing her mates. She has her eyes on Flynn, Tas, Steve, Puss and Lochy. Unfortunately they don't want anything to do with her except to help her with some crime scenes. So Sharon decides to take matters into her own hands. So what happens? Will she succeed or with the guys?
Turn About
Heather is wanting to find her mate and thinks Dustin is the one. Unfortunately, Dustin has different plans. Then Heather meets a homeless man and help him out only for him to diappear. Will she ever see him again? What will happen? Who is he?
Forbidden Secret
Madelyn, Jericho, Creed, Falcon and Paxton
Jericho wins the hand for Princess Madelyn. Unfortunately no one knew of his ulterior motives. However, Madelyn finds her true mates in Creed, Paxton and Falcon. So what happens? Does she marry Jericho? This one, is very intense and oozing with some sexiness too.
Twisted Secret
Mira, Jessica
Oh my word this one had me on edge. Mira is human raised with a wolf pack. Unfortunately, the wolves frown upon the fact that she is human. One night changes her life. Until 7 years later she has to confront her actions of that night only to come upon something tragic. So what happens? What does she do? How will the pack react? Well this is to be continued. I want more of this.
All these stories were so good and left me wanting more. I hope they all turn into full stories cause being left with a major cliffy is heartbreaking..I guess I will have to wait.
**This is an advanced readers copy and also purchased***
Twisted rejection anthology is 5 short stories by some amazing authors. I truly enjoyed this book from start to finish and the fact that each story is well told and kept my interest throughout the whole thing was definitely a positive experience reading this book for me. At first I wasn't sure if I would enjoy the fact that I had five different stories but as I got into the book I really did enjoy every one of them and I know you will too. I love the fact that this gives us a taste of these authors being that some of them I haven't had the pleasure of reading there books before. I have to say that for the ones that I haven't read before I will definitely be reading more of their work because of this book and the ones that I have read before I will continue reading your work because in this anthology it continues to show you're amazing talents. I'm not going to get into too much about book and detail but I highly recommend you reading if nothing more to get to know each of these talented authors so you can see how well and truly amazing their abilities to write a story and capture you are. This book an absolute five star read and I can't wait for more.
I wasn't sure what to expect with this anthology. I wasn't sure if it would be a whole bunch of sad stories but I loved them. A great group of authors. Here's what I thought about each story.
Bearly rejected: Jewles Arthur I really enjoyed this short even with the cliffhanger...I love a good bear shifter. I can wait for the books to come
Hallow-versary: Amanda cashure I have not read mating the mob but if it features the guys from this short...I'm all down. I want to see what else these Australian shifters are up to.
Turn about: Miki ward This story definitely comes with a lesson. And kindness pays out big time
The forbidden secret: Bella Claire Can't wait for the continuation of this book to come out. The hunt is on and I can't wait.
A twisted secret: Alexis Taylor and Beth Hendrix Ok. I really need the continuation of this book. Because I have a theory and I need to see if it's true.
No spoilers of any kind included. So this is all I’m going to say about A Twisted Rejection and that is I thought it was fantastic. So many great authors in this anthology but I got to say my absolute favorites was by Miki Ward and by Beth Hendrix and Alexis Taylor. Don’t get me wrong all the stories were awesome but Turn About by Miki Ward and A Twisted Secret by Beth Hendrix and Alexis Taylor were my favs. Anyway yes I most definitely do recommend this anthology because I thought it was fantastic and I think you will too.
This review is based on the first book written by jewels Arthur, I found it really cutE the relationship between the guys the world that has been created in both intriguing and sad at the same time, jewels Arthur is def one to watch
These short stories gave us a taste of what could be continued in the future. Each one was beautifully written. I can't wait until the stories continues.
Man that book was so yummy. I couldn't get enough and can't wait for what's next. She fought to have her true mates, but someone didn't want that happy ending. Loved this story
I loved this collection. It was awesome having so many great stories in one place. The pace of this book was very well set up. The stories were amazing and the authors all put a great collection together. It was great because as soon as you finished one story you immediately had another one to read. I would suggest this to anyone who wants an amazing read.

Bearly Rejected Well this was a story. Alana is cast out of her pack when her fated gets a new mate. She is then founded by four very sexy bears. Her bobcat hasn’t seen nothing yet. Now she has Dex, Aiden, Rowan and Liam. Add some old pack trouble and a cliffhanger to this read to get you wanting more.
Hallow-Versary This one was kinda confusing and not sure how to review it. I feel like I’m missing most of the story somehow. But what I did read was written well.
Turn Around This was a fast paced story with a moral to learn. That’s really all I can say about this one.
Their Forbidden Secret A fairytale of sorts. A princess and her prince with a twist. He is also to be the bad guy. Her three protector knights will be hers instead. Add in their baby girl and a kidnapping cliffhanger.
A Twisted Secret This was a tale I need the ending for. It was ended on a cliffhanger too. Dang these authors anyways. Mira is a great character and the story they have for her is great. It’s fast paced which is a drawback but the elements are here for a great story.
Bearly Rejected by Jewels Arthur 2.5 stars The concept of fated mates was different in this story. It was more of an arranged marriage than a destined mate. So Alana was rejected by the guy that she did not even love, only was used to him and resigned to them being together. Then after meeting four bear shifters she felt something for them and decided she was made for them in about 24 hours. That was way too fast burn for me. I get the need for sex, I am no prude, but that was too little time for any relationship development to that level. Too much too soon, thus not convincing.
TBR Hallow-Versary by Amanda Cashure Turn About by Miki Ward Their Forbidden Secret by Bella Claire A Twisted Secret by Alexis Taylor and Beth Hendrix
