description

Though much has been lost to the sands of time, the magic of these stories, and the incredible artifacts that represent them, continue to inspire us today.
Ancient Egypt was truly a wild time - from the flooding of the Nile to their innovative ways - the modern world will never forget the influence of the Egyptians.
Religion was a part of almost every aspect of the ancient Egyptians' lives.
This lovely little book focuses on the various religious myths of ancient Egypt.

To the ancient Egyptians the gods - Ra, Osiris, Isis, Horus, Bastet and so many more - ruled over everything and anything. Their favor was greatly desired and there were many ways to appeal to them.
Before creation, there was nothing but watery chaos.
This wonderful little book includes the origin stories of many of the Egyptian gods and cool facts about the Egyptian way of life.

I really enjoyed reading the myths, though it was an uphill battle at first. I am very familiar with the Ancient Greek gods - so whenever I read a different version of those events, I can pick it up relatively quickly.

Ancient Egypt. ..that's a whole different story!

The origin myths often wove around each other with the same story being told many times in slightly different ways. Because I was not as familiar with these gods, it was a bit difficult at first to keep up.

But that didn't last for long. I ultimately really enjoyed this book!

I had so much fun learning about the gods and the ancient way of life.

And the illustrations! They were absolutely GORGEOUS.

The Egyptian goddesses were so pretty and the gods were fearsome. The sheer amount of detail given in these pictures really made the book stand out and become a memorable story.

All in all, I'm rather pleased with this adorable (and informative) take on Egyptian Mythology.

A huge thank you to the author and Rockridge Press for sending me a free copy in exchange for an honest review

The pages lined with beautiful flecks of gold had the 'Midas touch'.

This Egyptian Mythology book was truly extraordinary! The artwork was stunning, the author Morgan E. Moroney, focuses specifically on Egyptian art and archeology; she is a Ph.D. candidate in Egyptology. I wanted to rip out every print of every God and Goddess to frame and hang up; I'm so in love with them. I cannot get over how bright and pleasing every little detail was. They were so colorful!

"Gods and Goddesses of Ancient Egypt" is an Egyptian Mythology book that was informative and got straight to the point. It was exceptionally well thought out and organized. Particular words were in bold throughout the text, which could be referred to from the glossary in the back. The main text does a great job of describing the glossary words so kids wouldn't necessarily be flipping back and forth. I should mention that while this is titled a KIDS book, be warned stories are told of Egyptian Gods and Goddesses being born from one another, having children together, and also shares myths of war, violence, and death. Children may have a hard time understanding or accepting some of these topics depending upon age or belief system. I'd say this is more for the age group of teens than kids, but that is just my opinion. "He then chopped Osiris up and spread his body about."

Morgan's career experience of working in museums lead her to include actual museum photos, purchased and donated from various photographers. I was a little disappointed to see most of the photos were purchased through Shutterstock, not taken directly by the author, but I also thought it very cool various museums were willing to donate the rest of the photos included this book.

For anyone geographically challenged like me, there's a map showing the Egyptian cities in ancient times, modern times, and both! I had fun looking at this. A historical timeline showing the rise and fall of Ancient Egypt was also included. Reading the fall of the Egyptian empire to the Romans was sad. A city built of gold ended in the Nile full of blood.

The end of the book contained a Family Tree of the Gods, helping me to understand the lineage better. The who's who, if you will. If you'd like a further exploration of these topics, the author has included a few books and website resources to take you further on your Egyptian journey.

Teens and adults interested in learning about Egyptian mythology may enjoy this. It was a great introductory for me because I had forgotten about most of what I had been taught in history class, way back when. If you are an Egyptian Gods and Goddesses lover, you will love the art shared among the folklore.

Much gratitude to publisher Rockridge Press, compliments of Callisto Media, for the early copy I received. I was under no obligation to write a review, my honest opinion is freely given.

Gods and Goddesses of Ancient Egypt: Egyptian Mythology for Kids by Morgan E. Moroney features illustrated myths of incredible Egyptian gods and goddesses, these twenty stories describe the magic each deity performed along the Nile. From the rising of the morning sun to the summer flooding of the Nile River, the ancient Egyptians believed powerful gods and goddesses ruled over every aspect of their daily lives. This Egyptian mythology guide explores the legends and how Egyptian mythology was a key part of ancient Egyptian culture, like pyramid building, the mummification process, and even the worshiping of cats.

Gods and Goddesses of Ancient Egypt is a book that helped me fill in some of my mythology knowledge gaps. I have read some Egyptian mythology before, but feel much less versed in it than Greek, Roman, Celtic, or even Norse. Now I feel like I have a better understanding of the mythology, and I really enjoyed the read in the process. I thought the color choices for heading and text were bold, and as expected, and the illustrations by Meel Tampanon added a great deal to the read. I also liked the inclusion of photographs of artifacts from the culture, and photographs of the land. It really brought home the reality of the lives and beliefs of the people in ancient Egypt. I knew the basics of Egyptian mythology, and as I read I discovered new things and was reminded of details I had forgotten. While I still need to do an in depth look at the mythology to assuage my own curiosity, I think that this is a good introduction for young readers.I really appreciated the family tree, glossary, resources for further reading, and references that were included in the endpages.

Gods and Goddesses of Ancient Egypt is an accessible and engaging read.

The mythology for kids series from Rockridge Press has been very mixed in terms of quality of information and how it is presented. When I began reading this book, I had high hopes because the author states that the stories changed over time and had conflicting versions for the thousands of years that Egyptians shared them and she is going to include them.

The first eight of the 19 chapters, were wonderfully crafted -- there was almost a flowing narrative from one deity's store into the next that I found so entertaining and realistic in terms of how we might share these with kids. My test audience was impressed, too.

But then that narrative flow broke down and suddenly the text is in the second-person. That was jarring but my test audience didn't really notice because I had stopped reading before that happened and when I saw that it was changing in another chapter, I stopped reading again. Honestly, putting mythology into the second-person for kids would be genius but it has to be consistent and this just wasn't.

The final nine chapters felt out of order. Some tales directly related to the first eight but were interspersed with deities whose stories didn't directly connect. Not all deities in a culture have stories that touch upon each other, the same humans, or the same events, but I feel a good editor should have seen this and insisted on moving some chapters around.

There was a lot of potential here so I'm giving these three stars but it could easily have been a five star review from me if an editor had helped with chapter order and the narrative voice.

I was sent a free paperback of this book from Rockridge Press in the hopes that I would give it a fair and honest review.

I was given a copy of Gods and Goddesses of Ancient Egypt: Egyptian Mythology for Kids by the publisher. The decision to review this book was entirely my own.

The ancient Egyptians believed that gods and goddesses ruled over every part of their lives. The myths and legends told the stories, passed on through generations as an important aspect of Egyptian history and culture. This book explores these legends, including illustrations and photographs of pertinent artifacts. There is an all important glossary in the back of the book, describing important terminology and giving good definitions of the gods themselves. The family tree of the gods is also in the back, but would have been more helpful if it had been located in the beginning of the book.

I wanted Gods and Goddesses of Ancient Egypt to be interesting and fascinating, but I could not get past the writing style. These legends are epic and timeless, but they came off mainly dry and lifeless. More a research effort than a children's book, Gods and Goddesses of Ancient Egypt just did not hold my interest. This heavy reading was too weighted down and is not one I would recommend for the target audience.

Gods and Goddesses of Ancient Egypt: Egyptian Mythology for Kids by Morgan E. Moroney is a great book about Egyptian mythology geared for children. As of the publishing of this book, Moroney is a PhD candidate in Egyptology, focusing on Egyptian art and archaeology. This book is not just interesting for children - even if you are an adult, it is a good way way to learn highlights of Egyptian history in a nicely abridged manner. The book is aesthetically appealing and includes engrossing photographs, such as an ancient game board, and a musical instrument called a sistrum. I liked how the author included a glossary of relevant terms as well as a “family tree of the gods.” One of my favorite chapters talked about Bastet, goddess of cats, joy, and motherhood. Another favorite chapter of mine discussed Neith, goddess of creation and war. It's a fun, educational book!

I received this book for review.

Ancient Egyptian people were deeply influenced by their gods. The gods helped them to make sense of things that they did not understand. One well known example was finding an explanation for why the Nile flooded each year, a natural phenomenon upon which the population depended.

This book tells the stories of over fifteen of the gods and goddesses. They were the gods or goddesses of creation and war, the underworld, healing, mummification, love, music and celebration, knowledge and more. The end of the book includes a glossary, a “find out more” section and references while the beginning includes a map and timeline.

Many children go through a phase of fascination with mummies and all things ancient Egyptian. This title is a great way to capture and build upon that interest.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this beautifully illustrated boook in exchange for anhones review.

Thank you to Callisto Publisher's Club and Rockridge Press for this free book. The following review contains my honest opinions.
There are 20 short stories of Egyptian gods & goddesses. These stories are concise, although several of the stories overlap or contain repetitive elements which can begin to feel redundant. This book is a great first introduction to Egyptian mythology. There is a family tree included in the back of this book, but it is non-comprehensive; this family tree doesn't even include all the gods & goddesses covered within this book. I appreciated the Egyptian History Timeline; the map of Egypt notating ancient cities, modern cities, and both; the list of resources that includes further reading suggestions and websites. I also enjoyed the short segments of additional information and pictures included at the end of each chapter. I loved the cover design and the illustrations through the book.

Gods and Goddesses of Ancient Egypt is a well-done book for middle-to-upper elementary school kids to learn about Egyptian mythology. Each chapter covers one or more gods, with a beautifully illustrated page at the beginning. After each short chapter is a page with a color photo and information about Egypt, from games to hieroglyphic writing to pyramids, to the Nile, to mummies.

This would be a great book for a kid who loves mythology, or a kid whose parents follow a pagan spiritual path. My favorite character in the book is the Goddess Nut, who gives birth to the sun god Ra every day and births the stars every night. Hathor is another family favorite.

Thank you, Callisto, for the review copy.

I was sent this book by the publisher with the expectation that I would give an honest review. Having never really learned much about the gods and goddesses of Egypt, I really enjoyed this book and felt that the information was very enlightening. It is definitely a beginner's resource for information in this area and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to get an overview of the gods and goddesses of Egypt without having to a deep study on the topic. The additional resources in the back of the book provide you with the opportunity to find more information if you would like to continue learning.

This is a well-done book for older elementary school children on Egyptian Mythology.

Each picture covers one or more gods. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful. There is just a short paragraph (or two) after the picture containing information about Egypt and the God or Godess pictured.

This is not greatly in-depth and does seem to skip some information but as a book for children I think it's a great introduction.

This would be a great book for a child who loves or is interested in mythology.

I recieved this book from Callisto Publishing and Rockridge Press as an ARC for an honest review.

Any mythology buff would fall in love with this book. The author groups each god by function and tells their stories with ease. Not only is the focus on the major gods, Ra, Osiris, the lesser known gods are also present, Geb, Hathor. The artwork transports you back in time with attention to detail, like hieroglyphs on a wall, as well as transports you back to the present day with photwallThere is a glossary in case any of the pronunciations stump you. Overall an awesome read and welcome addition for any Egyptology or mythology buff.

Greek Scholarship Used not Egyptian

Illustrations are beautiful. However, Greek scholarship and names used versus actual Egyptian ones. With Egyptian mythology you either have to choose from white Washed Illustrations or Greek scholarship versus Egyptian scholarship.

They could at least had the original names listed in small print under such things as the Egyptian Auset with the Greek Isis. However, the victor gains the spoils and Greek information always floods Egyptian/Kemet information.

I really enjoyed reading about the mythology of Egypt through this book. I’d read a bit when I was younger and I was able to catch on relatively faster. There were many new myths and gods I didn’t know about and I enjoyed reading about those. The illustrations in this book are gorgeous to look at even on a Kindle,I can only imagine how pretty it must be in print.

A good book for newbies to Egyptian mythology!
