Four stories. Four adventures. The past will meet the future in this final companion installment of the Sons of Wonderland.
CRUEL AS A QUEEN Villains are made, not born. Alice knows that better than anyone, her story starting with an accidental fall down a rabbit hole. She experienced wonderful things, but when she returns home, no one believes the mad imagination of a little girl.
Doctors tried everything to make her admit she’s wrong, to make her forget, but nothing will ever take away her memories of Hatter, White, Cheshire, and Alex. No matter what they do to her, she will not bow.
Alice will make everyone pay for what they did. They thought she was a monster before. They haven’t seen nothing yet.
THE PRINCE AND HIS HOPE Danica and Alexander only ever wanted to be together, even at the expense of tradition. Nothing could keep them apart, or so they thought. Hope is for the living.
THE FLAMINGO AND THE DODO BIRD Their story was one that was revered around Wonderland. Follow the tale of how they met, and how two creatures completely at odds fell in love.
A VERY MAD WEDDING It’s time for a new Reign to begin. . .
**Cruel as a Queen includes mentions of abuse, gore, sex, and Sexy Flamingos. These four stories tell those of the characters in the Sons of Wonderland trilogy that still longed to be told. This is a companion novel that should be read after Feral as a Cat and leads into the spin off series, The Daughters of Neverland**
Kendra Moreno is secretly a spy but when she’s not dealing in secrets and espionage, you can find her writing her latest adventure. She lives in Texas where the summer days will make you melt, and southern charm comes free with every meal. She’s a recovering Road Rager (kind of) and slowly overcoming her Star Wars addiction (nope!), and she definitely didn’t pass on her addiction to her son (she did). She has one hellhound named Mayhem who got tired of guarding the Gates of Hell and now guards her home against monsters. She’s a geek, a mother, a scuba diver, a tyrannosaurus rex, and a wordsmith who sometimes switches out her pen for a sword.
If you see Kendra on the streets, don’t worry: you can distract her with talks about Kylo Ren or Loki. #LokiLives #BringBackBenSolo

A great little anthology. The first story is showing us Alice's ordeal between the first and second time she was in Wonderland. The second book is about Prince Alex and Danica's relationship. The third is the Dodo bird and the Flamingo. And the 4th is more of an epilogue to the series. It's Clara and Hatter's wedding leading up to the next series with the Daughters of Neverland.
I'm not generally a fan of anthologies, or companion novels. But this one I enjoyed. It really helped to delve deeper into some of the characters that we meet in the first three books. I'm excited to start the next series which seems to be a spinoff to this one.
I liked that this book fill up gaps from the three books of the Sons of Wonderland series. I was kinda moved by Alice's dark and tragic life. I fell in love by the Flamingo and Dodo's story. And lastly, I got to read the Hatter and Clara Bee's wedding and coronation. I'm not sure if I will be reading the Daughters of Neverland series anytime soon, but maybe in the future.
Is this really the last book in the sons of Wonderland series??? What about the March Hare? Wasn't he also a son of Wonderland, I thought he would have a bigger role in the series then just giving the women of the triad reali-tea. I thought it would be awesome if he also had a mate like the other three sons of Wonderland. And if so then his mate would play the violin and everyone that was murdered by the red queen would be revived that would be a greater ending then Clara becoming empress that was just to random for an ending and all those people/creatures died so tragic. 😫
Omg, finally, I got the back story on the lost.... now on to never land we go... I can't get enough of these stories. I'm truly became a fan overnight. I love the story development and how we are going from one world to another.. This is giving what it's supposed to give
•• The Prince & His Hope - 5 estrellas ••
•• The Flamingo and the Dodo Bird - 5 estrellas ••
•• A Very Mad Wedding - 4 estrellas ••
Me gustó bastante.
This is a collection of four prequel stories. And considering what happens in the series, it is obvious that there will be no happy endings here, well, the last story is happy. The author has gifted her readers with the complete background of the events preceding the series, featuring some of the most important characters whose stories we never got to read before. Regardless how sad most of the stories are, I loved this book so much because the series finally feels complete, and this is one of my favourite series. *Cruel as A Queen This is Alice origin story and covers the period from when she visited Wonderland until she came back and became the Red Queen. I have to admit that this story was incredibly sad and explains quite a lot. Although Alice went through the most horrible experience ever, in the end her anger was directed towards the wrong group of people, and we all know how much they suffered her wrath. This story also provides a great introduction to Jabberwocky, who is an incredibly interesting character. *The Prince and His Hope This is a story of Danica and Alex, their love story, and their growing up. The story ends with the arrival of Alice. Cheshire is here as well, and the author gives a great insight into the roles of Sons of Wonderland, as well as Keeper of Memories and Hope Bringer. Danica is mentioned in the third book, but we finally get to meet her properly and she is a wonderful character. *The Flamingo and the Dodo Bird This is a story of Dodo who we met in the second book and then again in the third book, as well as her love Flamingo, who comes back with vengeance in the third book. This is a beautiful beautiful love story, and although it might not have a happy ending here, they did come back to conclude their story happily in the third book. *A Very Mad Wedding I think the title says it all. I loved it. This was a great conclusion of the series and I love the author for giving it to us. Additionally, this story contains a wonderful introduction into the author's new series Daughters of Neverland. All but the last story conclude the moment Alice returns to Wonderland and starts causing havoc, and the last story is the epilogue of the series. Overall, this was an amazing story collection that beautifully compliments the series and answers all the questions. The story only makes sense if the books are read in order. The reading order is: Mad as a Hatter (Sons of Wonderland Book 1), Late as a Rabbit (Sons of Wonderland Book 2), and Feral as a Cat (Sons of Wonderland Book 3).

I love the Sons of Wonderland series and this book is no exception. The story of Danica and Alex broke my heart. So did Flam and Dodo’s story. I love these books so much. I would definitely recommend them. These books are excellently written and are under rated. The stories in this book captured me. I love the fact that Hatter and Clara are married and ruling Wonderland. Their wedding was amazing. I cannot wait for Neverland. Bring on the next book.
*WARNING* contains adult situations and violence I enjoyed this one a lot because of all of the back story on Alice. I was thrilled to get a fuller story on Flam and Dodo. This book also fills in a few blanks here and there in previous books of this series. We get a small taste of the next series coming with the last chapter. This series is best read in order.
"We're all just here to survive, after all. It was my mistake for being human in a place robbed of it's humanity."
Alice's descent into madness was, by far, the most compelling story in the series. I was sincerely moved and deeply unsettled by her trauma. The author used the chance this story gave her to chronicle the unfortunate treatment of women during the given timeline, an abuse of power our history fails to acknowledge way too often in text. Though glimpses of Alice's past are peppered through out the previous books I failed to feel true compassion for her, pity maybe, but that chipmunk scene (you'll know when you read it) was a good distraction to keep us from truly sympathizing with her. This story gives us a true understanding of the source of her villainy.
"But that's why you're so very odd, see ? This world is mad. And here you are, logical in an illogical world. I find it intriguing."
My dad used to always tell me at his worst, "insanity is just an extreme form of sanity". I just nodded and went about my day whenever he said that, but I can't think of a quote more fitting to describe Alice's character arc in this story. Did she possess a natural inclination towards cruelty ? Yes but the real source of her insanity was her deep understanding and realization of what was happening to her, and having too strong a mind to fade into the darkness.
"I run. I run. I run. Daddy never likes it when I run. But the Hatter, the Hatter follows, and he makes me feel better because he tries to understand. Daddy never tries. When the Hatter kneels before me and wipes my tears away, I throw my arms around him, hugging him, needing his mad warmth."
What broke my heart the most, is how deeply ignorance and misunderstanding tore apart every relationship in this world. Hatter would have reacted so differently to her predicament had he known, but White's omission of the truth and lack of proactivity contributed to so much of the destruction caused, that I can't understand why the author never confronted his character for this.
"Hell is being tossed into a room and forgotten."
White was a great example of how obeying principles as a rule for being good could lead to a mislaid moral compass. I'm sorry but I don't understand how the author dedicated so much love to those struggling with their mental health at the start of this story and then made one of the most passively destructive characters a hero, facing no accountability.
I'm honestly shocked at how far and how much she let him get away with, from witnessing freaking child rape and doing nothing about it to extreme medical abuse and neglect. Constantly. Repeatedly. Making it worse with his appearances (and just WATCHING ?!?!). At least stay away so that the betrayal doesn't instill such a dire need for vengeance. Alice to the very end of her humanity was ready to forgive most characters of wonderland if they were unaware of her circumstances, but the author sort of vaguely glides over that to propel the story. Infuriating.
I see this a lot with female villains, it's all about endurance until self-destruction takes over while the male villains get to have their hot and sexy redeeming moments. Yay feminism (not). Her switch from such immensely serious topics to mediocre smut had me reeling honestly.
THE PRINCE AND HIS HOPE 🥀
"Brother, do not mourn for me, for I am merely the first step in your fate."
Yeah Alex and Dani were cute, but siblinghood was the true winner of this story(and a real tear jerker too). I loved Cheshire with all my heart and reading about what broke him broke me too. I'm so glad he found what was clearly meant for him, hinted even at the very beginning of his story, which was an escape from a world deciding his fate for him. If only he could have found what he wished for in better circumstances, but Wonderland in all of her cruel glory had other plans.
THE FLAMINGO AND THE DODO BIRD 💕🔥
"Some say he has developed the brutality of his father and his mother's inner turmoil"....."I don't want to be his cage I want to be his wings"
A vibrant, chaotic, sizzling love story, unravelling at the eye of the storm that is the impending doom of wonderland.
A VERY MAD WEDDING 🎩✨
"When I look at you, I understand that love is both a hurricane and a warm summer day, that it's both terrifying and perfect. One side can't exist without the other, and I choose to never exist without you again."
A heartwarming conclusion to the series and an exciting introduction to the next. We are (at long last) given the closure we seek from the storylines of all the characters we've come to love.
This is the final book of the series of Sons of Wonderland and this was the most gut wrenching book. This book has triggers so be warned about it. But here is my review:

I thought I would like this more that I did. But it left me with some unanswered questions and some new questions as well.
Cruel As A Queen The main focus of this story is about Alice's time in the asylum. This one definitely needs a trigger warning (it might have one but just in case). Alice suffers tremendous abuse at this place and it only makes it more disturbing and sad when you realize that while this is fiction, there had to have been millions of people who suffered this way back in that time. I do question if Jab ever loved Alice but I guess I'll never truly know. He was such an intriguing character and I would have enjoyed seeing some from his POV just to get inside his head. Since this is a total prequel, I thought he ending was perfect to show how she came back to Wonderland and set the stage for her bloody reign.
The Prince & His Hope I wanted to like this story, and I did until the final chapter. I know that Danica and Alex do not have a happy ending before Alice comes. But would it have been too much to ask for a flash forward chapter to show them in the Here After? I thrive off happy endings and I just didn't get the closure I needed for these two characters. One sentence about Danica holding hands with Alex during the ending of the first book wasn't enough for me. I still held out hope that maybe I could get a scene of them together in A Very Mad Wedding but still nothing.
The Flamingo And The Dodo Bird This story was cute and I appreciated it for what it was. Flam was such an interesting character in the series and I was curious as to his and Doe's love story. I understood the ending, but I would have liked a flash forward to see their reunion after Doe was free from Alice's enchantment. I am however left with what happened to Flam in Oz. And still very curious as to the love story between Flam's parents.
A Very Mad Wedding This was the story that I felt I got the most closure in. Clara and Hatter got married and all the Sons got together with their mates for the occasion. It sets the stage for the spin off series and I'm excited for Attie's role. I would have liked to have heard more about Cal and Cheshire's life in our world, but maybe I'll get that in the next series when Atlas gets called to go to Neverland.
There are minor grammatical errors but nothing too distracting. If you've read the series, I definitely recommend this and agree with the fact that it should be read after the series, if only for the fact that the wedding is included in this book.
"Use the pronoun "I" when the person speaking is doing the action, either alone or with someone else. Use the pronoun "me" when the person speaking is receiving the action of the verb in some way, either directly or indirectly." - Google Just a little education. Is was like a slap everytime it was done incorrectly. I'm not even good at grammar. It was done wrong so often though that it was a great distraction.
That aside, good book and stories. Alice really depressed me. She was just a weird little kid that was so mistreated. I even liked Jab once he came because it felt like a relief to my own brain to be unstrapped and freed. I also liked Flam and Doe getting their backstory. They were cool. Alex and Danica...meh. Wedding at the end was basically there to tempt me into the spin-off...it may have slightly worked. Haven't bought it yet, but I'm thinking on it.
Really enjoyed this series of short stories. The story of Alice's experience in the asylum did kinda remind me of the game Alice: Madness Returns a bit, but it was still scary. The story of Alex and Danica was tragic, to say the least since we know what happens. Found the love story of the Flamingo and the Dodo to be adorable, and I loved the wedding ceremony. Then it got to the end and I started crying, even though again I knew that it was coming. Finally, that coronation and wedding scene of Hatter and Clara was amazing, with it again setting up for the Daughters of Neverland series. A little disappointed I didn't get to hear that story of Cheshire getting into a fight with a washing machine.
I'm really enjoying the flipside of our well know fairytales. I'm over the Top for "Alice in Wonderland"'and "Through the Looking Glass" anyway. I'm not real impressed with the sex parts, feels like a lonely housewife living out a weird fantasy. The soft porn isnt relative, nor does anything to further the plot.. But that's my own opinion not really sure why it needed to added. Illiteration goes along way. But otherwise, very well written and an amazing twist on Wonderland. Just started the Neverland series. So far, I'm hooked!!! Despite the tmi sex scenes. that's why I gave the 4 stars. Perfect, except the too in depth sex scenes.

It was alright...I mean again seemed really repetitive. We knew the whole story of Alice already pretty much, yes we did not know how Alice and the Jabberwocky fell in love but other then that we knew the rest.
The story of Alex and Danica definitely was a great! But I wish there was more to the story of the two of them.
The story of Flam and Doe's love story was AMAZING!! I loved it, I thought that was the highlight of this book, if there was a story on just them and I mean an actual novel I would totally read that!
The wedding and coronation was alright, again it could of been written better I think.
I wanted to read this mainly to get the Flamingo and Dodo’s story and got more insight into why Alice became who she was…man was she messed up!! No wonder she turned out the way she was…did I empathize? No, I still wanted to kill her but I at least get it. I love Dodo and she is freaking awesome. I also loved being able to see the interactions between the King and Queen with Flam and Dodo. I also loved the ending story of all the sons and the wedding of Clara and Hatter…it also has the lead in for the Beserker going to Neverland. Looking forward to reading more!!
The whole way through this book the was realisation and recollection. Components from the other books coming together and areas I did not think could have explanation was taught and my heart better for it. I'm sad about Atlas but not nearly as excited I am to find and follow him in the next lot of this amazing series.
This book was fun because we got to see more origin/history of some of the characters from the series. I only wish a few more stories had been included such as the white queen and white and the hatter.
It actually deserves 2.5 stars because it wasn't as good as the rest of the books and because I wasn't interested in dodo and the flamingos story and because the last story was a little boring but anyway. It was nice to read about Alice.
***Please read! :) Don't read my review if you haven't read the three books prior. My review will have minor spoilers and I'd hate to ruin this amazing series for you. If you haven't read anything by Kendra Moreno, I recommend starting from the beginning and getting Mad as a Hatter. He's, still to this day, my favorite character Kendra ever wrote and he's where this story starts***
There's so many feelings associated with this series for me: happiness, joy, to name a few, but also sadness knowing that this will be the end to the adventures in Wonderland. But, we're heading to Neverland next, and will see our favorite characters again, so that fills me with more joy and helps make the end of this part of the series easier.
I started Mad as a Hatter, the first book in the Son's of Wonderland series, hating Alice with a passion. She hurt the Hatter, she hurt Wonderland, and I just couldn't find anything about her to love, just hate. But, in Late as a Rabbit, we get to see another side of Alice we didn't see coming. And then, in this book, we see how the once sweet girl became a monster. It makes you question, was it nature vs nurture that made Alice as bloodthirsty and evil as she became? It was a great message, in my opinion anyway, because it showed the reader that sometimes things aren't in black and white.
Now, Alice's story is very dark and tragic when she gets kicked out of Wonderland and goes back home. If you have read the other books in the series, just know that there's some triggers in this book that the author, Kendra, listed above perfectly. If you have trouble reading about abuse (especially sexual in nature) then know that one of these stories has this. It isn't graphic, but it is hard to read, so just be aware. If you have triggers, then I would recommend still getting the book and skipping to the second story because, although tragic, it's not as hard to read as the first. I felt so bad for Alice and understood her better as a villain. A powerful story and, in my opinion, needed for this series. Kendra did Alice right and I love how, although she turned out evil, she gave Alice a voice and allowed her side of the story to be told. Much respect for the author for writing this story. It needed to be told.
Now, the second story was my second favorite because we learnt more about Chesh's little sis and how she fell for the future Knave. It filled my heart with joy, broke my heart, and just over-all was brilliant to read. Their end wasn't happily-ever-after, but I feel their story was perfect because of that. Sometimes, no matter how hard we try, how much we love, it's not always meant to be. But loving that person--no matter how brief--is worth everything at the end. Love is enough. It always is, and always will be. I rather love for a moment, than never have known love at all. Another great story.
The last two stories were lighthearted and happier than the previous two. I love reading about Dodo and her flamingo. Like LOVED their story. It was so cute, so full of laughter and love, and was just perfect. The last story you know is my favorite for so many reasons, but mostly because I love Hatter and Clara Bee with all that's in me. Their marriage was so freakin' beautiful, it made me sob so hard I couldn't read the words after a while and needed to walk for a moment to collect myself. I want to say more, but this story can't be explained, it needs to be read and experienced personally. In celebration of two of my favorite people's union, I'll drop an awful rhythm:
Clara Bee and Hatter were meant to be, And anyone with eyes can see, The madness in his eyes subsides, With his new Empress by his side.
Kendra always outdoes herself and I'll always be her fan. Forever and always. I'll always be her biggest, maddest, most proud fan (your other fans can fight me for the role, but I warn them now, I'm taking a page out of Hatter's book of madness and will be a formidable opponent. Although....I am a klutz....no! I will fight! *Lifts fists and trips over feet*)
Haha, anyway, here's to more adventures in Neverland!! <3
Cruel as s Queen is a companion book to the Sons of Wonderland series that holds 4 short stories within its covers. Of course, it starts with Alice, whose descent into madness is horrifying and traumatic in a world of cruelty and indifference. I could barely find an ounce of pity or compassion for her though most of the book, yet I found myself rooting for her all the same at the end. Kendra did an amazing job of taking us into the mind of Alice and painting the apathetic and barbaric world that broke her.
Next we move on to Alex and Dani and Cheshire. Major feels with this one. Very dark blue. My heart hurts for these two, and for Cheshire, but I wouldn’t have missed reading their story for anything. Beautiful light, gut wrenching dark, and doomed. Don’t let this be what you finish reading at bedtime. Just saying.
Dodo and the Flamingo! Holy pink flames they were hot! I loved reading how they met, seeing Dodo before Alice came back, the carefree girl she started out as. Also, how we found Dodo in Late as a Rabbit makes so much more sense now. What an epic love story, even with Kendra’s dark twists.
Finally, Kendra returns us to the present with the Sons and their women in a Very Mad Wedding. There’s nothing I can say here without giving away the story, but trust me, it’s good. Very, very good. If you haven’t read the Sons of Wonderland series, why not? It’s a great series and this book is a very satisfying addition that fills in some back stories and sets up the next series.

Absolutely loved this companion to the Sons of Wonderland! Be prepared for all the feels as the first story reveals Alice's history and mindset, story 2 delves into Cheshire and Danica's past, story 3 reveals how Dodo and Flamingo met, and story 4 marks a new reign for Wonderland. Definitely looking forward to Daughters of Neverland!
Cruel as a Queen is the companion to the three novels in this series, The Sons of Wonderland It was divided into 4 part that showcases its main and second characters story.
I was sad when I read the first part because it showed the cruelty that Alice went through. Upon reading it, I have more understanding of her behavior and felt really bad because she was a victim. I know it was all part of a prophecy but it doesn't make me feel any less sad and angry for her.
Dani and Alex's story was angsty AF. The forbidden, friends to lovers, brother's sister trope was strong on this one. We were shown a bit of backstory to their romance and I was rooting for them all way through.
Doe and Flam appeared on this series and their story was a delicious one. I'm glad that they were given a chance to shine on this book and boy, was it hawt!
The last story, Mad Wedding was Clara and Hatter's wedding and coronation. I was misty eyed with happiness when they were giving their vows, it was all the feels! It also was a great ending to the story of Wonderland and opening to the next adventure, Neverland. Can't wait to see what was in store for us readers!
