Gideon is facing the Christmas period alone and finds the prospect not too unpleasant. When he meets Luca, however, he sees an opportunity to spend at least some of the holiday weekend in the company of someone he finds extremely attractive, as long as he can overcome a couple of hurdles along the way.
Angels come in all shapes and sizes.
This story contains scenes of intimacy between two men. Some drunkenness and a lot of falling over. Drink responsibly and don’t drink pink marshmallow flavoured gin alone, folks.
Dawn is from the North East of England. Her life is spent juggling. The juggling balls are: children, husband, work (occasionally), voluntary work, professional knitting (notice she doesn't class this as work), and writing. When she has time she actually sleeps.
The whole point of writing for Dawn is just to get it all off her chest and out of her head. If she doesn't write it down then she ends up having long conversations with the characters out loud and her husband thinks she's crazy.
I like chocolate, coffee and donuts, sometimes all at the same time. I love evenings around a campfire singing in the company of good friends. I like listening to the dawn chorus even if I’ve been awake all night. I like reading stories with characters that are filled with hope even in their darkest hours. I like happy endings. I write LGBTQ+ Romance (with happy endings of course). Read my blog for insights into my stories, updates on WIPs and some exclusive excerpts.
This is very short, cute, and sweet. It’s just a lovely holiday read, low on angst and drama and mostly a gentle, humorous meeting between two people at Christmas.
There should probably be a category for “odd couples,” people who don’t at first glance seem like they’d go together. Gideon’s somewhat of an unreliable narrator when it comes to himself, but if he’s to be believed, he’s rather ordinary. Luca, on the other hand, is handsome enough to attract a lot of attention. Also, Gideon is quite short, and Luca is very tall. Gideon’s shy and not terribly adventuresome, while Luca seems worldly and outgoing. Not that it really matters, but they are definitely filed under “opposites attract.”
There’s not a whole lot I can say without spoilers, mainly because it’s so short a read. But two things stand out. First, I think Dawn Sister nails personality quirks really well. I cringed quite a lot right along with Gideon through his misadventures.
Second, the scenes were set up so vividly it felt like I was right there. I loved all the little details about the choir and the hot cocoa stand. Those weren’t delivered to us in long paragraphs of description but in how the characters interacted with the scenery. Just so incredibly well done.
I wouldn’t necessarily say that the story itself is an entirely unique plot. But I would say that the way it’s told is definitely original, and I really liked this little gem.
A lovely short Christmas read. Bless Gideon - so capable and important yet he doesn't see it, which is his charm really. He's humble and unassuming. Luca is the perfect match for him.
This has all the perfect Christmas ingredients - choir, hot chocolate, a Christmas market...no snow, mind you, but we don't really have white Christmases in the UK.
A bit different, a lot festive, sweet and funny - and romantic, of course - the kind of story Dawn Sister does best.
I had the wonderful good fortune of beta reading this lovely, holiday-themed romantic short.
Gideon, the main character, is pessimistic, klutzy, and friggin adorable. And Luca is a dream man come true. You'll find yourself wishing you had one or both of them in your life. I know I did.
I hope the author makes more stories with Luca and Gideon. I would read them in a heartbeat!
I am such a scrooge and generally won't touch anything 'Christmassy, short and sweet', but Dawn Sister... I love her direct and fun writing. Read this because it's a brand new year, read this because you are a bit hung over, read this on your commute. Just read. It. ^_^
