This is a very bright and colorful visual guide to grammar for kids or adults who like infographics. I have a rare form of epilepsy that makes me sensitive to sensory over-stimulation and I found the book to be like the literary equivalent of going to a rave, but I suspect that others will really enjoy the bright, bold, cluttered pages.

The book packs information in, without a lot of explanation. There are many examples along the lines of "do this" and "don't do this," along with charts and lists and such.

I could never just sit down and "read" this book since it feels like getting screamed at by a rapid succession of people in crazy outfits to me, but this will probably be a great resource for kids and adults who respond well to this sort of material.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for the purpose of review.

If you consider this book as one giant deck of flashcards to help you memorize the basics of grammar, then it’ll make you happy but if you’re looking for more depth and detailed information, you might be disappointed.
I really liked the idea behind it and enjoyed most of the chapters, however did not find something that I had not known before. It was too shallow for my taste and most subjects are left right on the surface. On the bright side, this colorful book grabs your attention from the first page wih beautifully designed pages, charts and diagrams that may help you declutter your mind, help organize your grammar knowledge if it’s all over the place and remember basic concepts of English language.
Overall a good reference book for grammar police and for those wishing to learn the basics without complicated details and includes good tips and tricks to improve writing skills and linguistic dexterity.

Is it wrong of me to say I really want to cut this book up and hang all the pages up around my library like beautiful posters? Well, right or wrong that’s exactly what I wanted to do. I really think this book should come in a pull-apart, poster version so everyone can see, use and be helped by the colourful infographics that cover everything from punctuation to commonly confused words.

Five chapters break the content down into sections: parts of speech, sentence structure, punctuation, writing style and common mistakes. Each sub-section, nouns for example, are given a two page spread infographic that provides a basic explanation, uses, fun facts, more details, and handy to know tips. All this, presented as beautiful, highly colourful infographics.

The graphic design work in this book is fabulous. The information given is simple. Clear examples are provided. The layout of each infographic is pleasing to the eye and did I mention colour? So much colour, different texts, and fun graphics. There isn’t a lot of text on each page and the font is big and bold.

However, I found that this book wasn’t easy to read and certainly not cover to cover. I enjoyed flicking through it, jumping from section to section and looking for those handy tips, but for my text-loving brain, all that bold font and bold colours were a little overwhelming. Hence, why I would like to cut the book up and hang it around my library. Not because I dislike it in any way, but simply because the infographics would work so well as giant posters. I think this book would also be wonderful for teachers working through grammar with their students and providing a simple definition, overview, example and use of each component.

A bright, bold and informative book, The Infographic Guide to Grammar is sure to please any grammar enthusiast and visual learners.

I am a language nerd and spent the entirety of my years in college studying all the languages available. And let me tell you that there is nothing that my heart loves more than a beautifully executed chart that is colorful and concise, but wonderfully informative. A chart to break down the ins and outs of a language rule and make it fun? I love them, I have handy little charts everywhere, but I've never really seen or utilized them for the languge that I speak natively, English.

Growing up, I never really got a clear education on all the many nuances and rules that make up a language. Obviously I was taught the big ones like nouns, verbs, commas, periods, ect. But things like participles and the passive voice, coordinate adjectives? Never in my young life. So learning the many, many ways to conjugate a verb in my first ever Latin class was a frightful experience and thus my love and reliance on a handy language chart was born. I copied SOO many rule charts out of my language textbooks for reference during language classes and The Inforgraphic Guide to Grammer is an entire book of them!

This book probably isn't everyone's cup of tea, but if you're a student of languages I think you will find this guide very interesting and that it'll help make connections across the langauges you're studying bring able to see the breakdown of your own native language(if yours is English). And even if you're not a student of modern or classical languages but still in schoo, I think it would be very handy when it comes to writing papers. The charts are very clear and informative and there are accompanying blurbs to the language rules to explain the dos and don'ts of the rules and to provide examples., which are incredibly helpful for a visual leaner.

As an English teacher I love grammar and am always looking for tools to make learning grammatical rules easier. Hopefully, The Infographic Guide to Grammar can be such a resources. It is divided into five chapters (Parts of Speech; Sentence Structure; Punctuation; Writing Style; Common Mistakes) and contains 50 infographics that should help visual learners digest this material better.

You may notice that I used the word should in the last sentence. That was due to a desire to be accurate in my wording. Though the ARC the publisher granted contains all the words in the infographics, the infographics themselves were not available in the ARC. This affected the rating I was able to give the book.

I think anything that has 'infographic' or 'visual guide' is a hook for me. Having a graphic design background definitely helps, but I've come to accept the fact that unless the information is organized simply with colors, then my brain just shuts down. I really enjoyed this book (although I think it could be simplified further) and can see it as a resource for kids as well as adults inclusive of ESL learners.

This was or is very useful, helpful and an easy guide to everything you need to know about English grammar. Of course, for someone like me, it is always a work in progress for I always have run-on sentences or some form of sentence structure problem. But it is good to have an easy guide when I now can remember to use it. This would be good for anyone to carry in their backpacks, notebooks and is just easier to carry this around instead of books. Had to deduct half a point for one inaccuracy. The example failed to complement the rule mentioned. Other than that, I liked how they broke down grammar rules into easy to understand graphics. I still think the book is way too expensive, but I will be using it for reference and the colours are nice to look at so, it is in a way, value for money.

This book was very well put together. Every page was bright and eye-catching. I found that it was easier to understand grammar through this book than any point in school (grades 1-12 and university). It is an accurate book without any false or misleading information.

I would recommend this book to anyone at any level that is struggling with getting grammar rules straight. Grammar isn't easy to figure out and this would make an incredible reference book for it. I will most definitely keep it in mind as I pursue being an English teacher myself. I hope others do as well.

This Handbook is fine for reviewing English grammar, but I wouldn't say it's suitable for beginners.

Un manuale che va benissimo per ripassare la grammatica della lingua inglese, ma non direi che sia adatto ai principianti.

Impressions: I am a visual learner and generally enjoy infographics.
Liked: Infographics are quick and easy to obtain information from. Regardless of feeling the pages were too busy I feel like having the basic facts readily available is nice.
Disliked: Infographics are just too fun not to pass up. That being said there is a balance to learning through pictures. I found the graphics to be distracting from the facts. I feel like the infographics were a bit busy for learning purposes and could have been better organized.
Learned: As an adult, I am still not good at grammar😊
Quotes: Nothing stood at as noteworthy.

Originally published on my blog: Nonstop Reader.

The Infographic Guide to Grammar is a neat graphic primer on proper usage for English grammar. Due out 2nd Sept 2020 from Simon & Schuster on their Adams Media imprint, it's 128 pages and will be available in paperback and ebook formats.

When I was an admittedly nerdy kid, I used to love diagramming sentences, playing with writing exercises, keeping journals and all those sorts of assignments. I would have absolutely coveted this book. It's full of graphic charts, diagrams, colorful bullet lists, and punchy illustrations showing the parts of speech, sentence structure, punctuation, style, and common mistakes.

It's not really aimed particularly at school aged kids; I found quite a number of salient points which I had either forgotten or not learned the first time around. This is a comprehensive book, but not an encyclopedic one, so for all of the subjects it covers, it does so in a perfunctory (somewhat incomplete) manner. I enjoyed reading it and would recommend it as a useful desk reference, especially for visual learners. The book also includes a cross referenced index to access charts quickly and easily.

Four stars.

Just OK. Has errors. Read on KU

I absolutely do not recommend buying this. My grammar skills are not perfect but certainly better than average, and most of my errors are my brain thinking one thing but my fingers typing something different. I'm working toward becoming an author and wanted to polish my skills as well as clarify a few tricky things, including comma usage. What I really need is a book that has a big section of examples and common mistakes. It isn't the fault of the book that it doesn't provide those things but it just doesn't provide much of all. It is 5 chapters long, and each chapter is indy a few pages. I would like to be able to highlight the few things I needed to concentrate on but the whole book is done in images, so highlights do not work.

As other reviewers mentioned, the book contains errors. I didn't read the whole thing as reading a book on grammar is boring, so I'm sure there are others I did miss. I'm attaching a screen shot of one such error. It wasn't the lesson they were teaching that was incorrect. It was a different error. They were pointing out the expression is no "mind your peas and ques." It is "mind your p's and q's." That is the way they wrote it. However, you never use an apostrophe to make anything plural. I would have written it as "mind your Ps and Qs," but lower case might be correct. Visually, I think the capital letters make it clearer.

I was so excited to see this title on netgalley. I love infographics. An infographic guide to grammar?! Is it even possible? English is one of the hardest and most complicated languages to learn. All those exceptions to the rule! I've always felt that the best way to learn English is to grow up speaking English and reading books in English!

After looking through this book, I must say I am not disappointed. I love the bright vivid colors, creative fonts and graphics. I really appreciate the pages on terms used for parts of speech and sentence structures. Just the other day, I asked a friend, what do you call this type of phrase? I've always been aware that I am clueless about grammatical terms. I certainly need help there! The punctuation and writing styles chapters will help strengthen some of my weak points too.

I find the chapter on common mistakes a bit too basic for me, but it will certainly come in useful for others who want to stop making those errors.

I would highly recommend this book for those who already have at least a basic grasp of the language and want to brush up on their grammar.

Thank you Netgalley and Adams Media for this ARC. This is my honest review.

Helpful If You Write with Any Regularity

As an author, copyeditor, and voracious reader, I love this simple little infographic grammar guide. In fact, I might be recommending it to my authors! The book is broadly divided into five sections, starting with parts of speech and ending with common English mistakes. Other topics include sentence formation and writing style. Each infographic page is visually interesting and succinctly discusses its topic—whether that's adverbs, irregular verbs, or commonly misused phrases. As a self-proclaimed word nerd, I appreciated the author's way of summarizing information about each point of grammar, getting ideas across sparely but correctly… and even interestingly. Some pages even had some fun bonus information, like where the word or concept came from. Whether you are an author or happen to write a lot—whether for business or your own personal want or need—check out this easy-to-consume and very helpful book that will undoubtedly improve your writing.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

The Infographic Guide to Grammar by Jara Kern is a great tool to have on your shelf or your Kindle for easy reference and a brush up on grammar and writing.

The book is a cool way for anyone to learn English language grammar rules or to brush up on those pesky rules or common grammar mistakes, such as when to use affect vs. effect.

The guide is simple and easy to use and has fun and interesting graphics and examples. The book provides in-depth information on parts of speech, sentence structure, punctuation, writing style, and common mistakes such as who and whom, double negatives, and commonly confused words. The book lays out the basic rules of grammar and provides tricks to help avoid common mistakes. One helpful source is the Subject-Verb Agreement Cheat Sheet and how to handle subjects and whether the verb is singular or plural and provides an example. For example, titles of books, movies, and songs are always singular.

Being bilingual with English and Spanish being my first languages, I've always had trouble learning, understanding, and applying Grammar and Punctuation rules. Reading craft books on the subject made me feel like I was reading Greek. I don't think I'll ever be able to recite rules despite consistently studying the subject since grade school and throughout college. The Infographic Guide to Grammar is exactly what my visual brain needs to understand important concepts in Grammar. And the bright and colorful mindmapping will assist me in understanding and applying concepts. I look forward to using this craft/reference book as a go-to with each book I write.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book. I will recommend to my writer friends.

I received a copy of this book directly from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review.

The Infographic Guide to Grammar by Jara Kern is a fantastic book to pick up if you need help understanding the fundamentals of English grammar and how it works. It featured comprehensive explanations for all the different parts of speech, how they fit together, how to identify them, and their roots in the English language - all sorted into a visual guide that was easy to understand. I would recommend the paper version of this over the e-book version, just because I feel like it will be a better visual reference if you can hold it in front of you, but it is well worth the purchase if you are looking to learn more about grammar.

This is a really great guide to grammar. I never had a formal grounding in grammar at school, so I have always remained a bit fuzzy on what constitutes a noun, pronoun, verb, adverb, etc. Most of what I know about proper writing I picked up from my tertiary education, so I can see why even native readers and speakers of English get confused, let alone ESOL students.

This book is exactly what it says in the title. It presents a visual guide to grammar in a visually appealing and easily digestible format. It is divided into 5 chapters: Parts of Speech, Sentence Structure, Punctuation, Writing Style, and Common Mistakes.

This is the perfect book to have on hand if you quickly need to check something while proof-reading your writing.

This book is perfect for those that are still puzzling over "basic" grammar rules, those who consider themselves connoisseurs, and those learning the ins and outs of the English Language. With awesome graphics, quick tidbits of information, and bright colors, I flew through this grammar guide.

(Also if you're like me and have always struggled with parts of speech...this book is a LIFESAVER. Do I know what an adjective is? Am I an avid capitalizing junky? Yes. My favorite pages were the ones tell me what to and what not to capitalize. All those nasty exceptions that I can never keep straight are listed with easy to remember guidelines.)

I'm not really sure who the audience for this is. If it's students learning grammar, there's not nearly enough information to teach the practical applications of the terms in the book. If it's English teachers, there's not nearly enough supporting material to build a lesson around. It seems to me like the book is trying to cover too much (the structure of the English language), and, in doing so, it covers very little; it becomes a glossary of terms, but each term gets only a cursory glance. It is a very visually appealing book, but it just scratches the surface on every topic in touches.

This is a bright and colorful, illustrated guide to grammar. I found it mostly filled with good information to help both native and non-native speakers with various grammar issues. There were a couple areas where I found the organisation could have been better and one section that I felt was inadequate. But otherwise it's quite an enjoyable guide that would benefit many grammar users, especially those geared towards a more visual style of learning.

Overall, I give this 4 stars.

This is a very helpful guide, and I wish I'd had it when I was in school (though it would still be helpful now). Anyone who writes, whether for work, school, or pleasure, would benefit from having this book. Among (I still prefer using "amongst" over "among," but I'll use the word this guide prefers for this review) other things, I finally feel comfortable knowing when to use who/whom, and lay/lie! The visual layout and use of color were very helpful to me, as a visual learner, but might not appeal as much to non-visual learners. Definitely recommended!

As a non native English speaker and struggling sometimes with grammar, The Infographic Guide to Grammar is a good resource for me. Not only that it is interesting laid out with colourful charts to make the info really interesting. The Infographic Guide to Grammar is a resourceful guide for everyone from native to non-native English speakers, whether you're a librarian, a teacher or simply someone who loves to read, you ought to add this book in your collection.

Using infographics for teaching grammar is an interesting idea. It is colourful and vibrant with easy language. I tried teaching my sisters who are in middle school but they found it truncated. They needed more explanation. Maybe each chapter could have some more infographics. Some text could be more explanatory.
