There are several things about this book I found totally unpalatable:

1. Does not matter how you swing it, a non- consensual sex in my book is called rape. The fact that it happened twice in the first part of the book and on both occasions our heroine was deliberately restrained did not sit well with me at all.

2. The way women who, while placed in unimaginable situation, turned on one of their own under guise of self-preservation was totally off-putting: call me naive, but I have a better opinion of humans.

3. The character of Kirsten - why, oh why did we had to have Bimbo in Space? Was she supposed to be a comic relive? Was she supposed to be a counterbalance to show how smart our heroine is, even when her decision to take a complete stranger home was the most idiotic thing this police Cadette could have done? Personally, I found Kirsten character cringe - worthy and totally redundant.

4. The racial discrimination - it seemed that does no matter what planet you come from, blonds are still a flavor of the month, year, decade, galaxy etc,and darker skin/ darker hair is not desirable.

These are the major points. The two stars is because I hound the premise interesting and the writing STYLE easy. The content - that is another matter.

Wow...does Kaitlyn O'Connor write a bad book? (I blame Julie for this obsession) This is definately a must read by her. The relationship that grows between Tau and Kelly was built up perfectly, throughout the book.
Kelly is a smart, strong heroine. She is NOT a shrinking violet AND I liked that she tried to make the best of her situtation...regardless of the possible outcome. She is no victim...and she definately fights for what she wants.
Tau was a great hero. He's handsome (especially for an alien) strong, smart and has a gentleness to him that I really loved. Don't get me wrong...he's not a beta, but he isn't a bad-ass-all-the-time-alpha either. I thought he was the perfect mix.
I really won't get into the storyline much because I don't want to give anything away. Just know that you are in a for a treat with this one!
If you are offended by strong language and expicit sexual situations, this book is not for you. But girls...this one did get HOT at times...whew!!!!!

This was the classic Mars needs women trope. I didn't realize this was going to be about aliens, but it was enjoyable. I hated the hero in the beginning but he grew on me a bit. He kept doing stupid things that I felt were unnecessary.

The beginning was kinda cool and had a bit of action, as the heroine is abducted from earth. But then it devolved for me as there were so many communication issues. How is a species advanced enough to make it to earth, but can't communicate worth a damn. The broken english was difficult to get through.

Also, this Kaitlyn O'Connor book would had a few non/consensual scenes in the beginning, so beware if that's a hard no for you!

This author sure mixes it up. This is the first of her books where the hero is not instantly attracted to or even wants the heroine, but feels he'll just do the minimum so she isn't hurt. Well, it all blows up in his (and mostly her) face and so they have to try to keep her alive. Great book, gradual romance even though the first sexual encounter happens pretty quickly.

Wow really...
Think of a romance book scene that heroine tries to help an alien, they kidnap her. Bound her to a table face down, ass in the air. Hero is fucking her but hating it because he is disgusted that he desires an alien. At the same time, she is miscarying her child, having an orgasm and falling in love. The guy in charge of the operation is yelling in his own language and telling her to cook for them even though their food does not require cooking, her fellon abducted human friends snickering at her saying that she wants to fuck everybody but nobody wants her, another guy is beating her by the way and some counsil guys are watching and saying that since she is black, so obviously has bad genes, and miscarried her child because of the beating so she should be dissected.
That was the scene I created in my mind while reading this book. Of course these did not happen all at the same time but they were so close that it felt like it. I am disgusted by the hero. He was supposed to be the "the lion". He is the disgrace of all feline family in earth and in universe. She is TSTL. My cat who never lets me to sleep enough since he needs to be scratched while he is eating his morning meal has more honor and more humanity then him. He kept saying her he saved her because he wanted to protect his cub, while knowing that because of his lousy and bumpy rescue she lost her baby.
But dont worry in the end the guy brought her tampons so it was all good.
I am sorry Kaitlyn O'connor. I have read almost all your books, I really love them. But really... That was gross.
Do you know how this book would be less offending and more romantic. After heroine brought the unknown alien to her home stupidly since he was not even injured, he rapes her repeatedly, brings some friends and they rape her too. Then they leave her be. While on their way home an astroid crushes their ship and they became tomato sauce on space. The heroine after recovering fro her injuries finds herself an ordinary man. An accountant, has a slight belly, not much muscles. But he is considerate and loves her. They have a normal sex life. Two in a week. They both get to come for one time each. They have two children. One boy and one girl. No miscarriages, no falling in love with horrible racist rapist liar fucking animal. No having multiple orgasms while being raped without even the excuse of magnificent foreplay since fucking catman only knows of rutting.

💜Ahhh. I just love a good alien mate story. These two had a rough beginning, not helped by the language barrier. Tau did some things at the start that made their lives so much more difficult. But Tau turned out to be a sweet, protective, good guy. And I loved Kelly. She was so cool and tough, smart and could take care of herself.

This book went places I wasn't expecting and it was a nice change. Great read!

SafetyNeither virgins. H lost his wife in the war but he wasn't really very attached to her. After the h is captured (the H makes them bring her so they don't kill her) he has to impregnate her so she won't be killed when they arrive at their home planet. Even though they both enjoy themselves, some may see it as rape since she was tied down. Miscarriage (on page). The H was a huge bonehead.

Just did a reread of this. Liked it just as well the second time.


A really good sci fi romance read. The writing was tight and the plot made sense. The characterization was interesting with the hero having to overcome some racist tendencies against the heroine. This was mostly a story about a developing relationship with a sci fi background where ships and interstellar politics etc., were not important to the story. The hero was very caring of the heroine once he overcame his first reluctance. The heroine was feisty without being stupid. No menage in this one. There were sex scenes but they weren't the major thrust of the story. The love and trust that grew between the two was. A recommended SFR read.

Terrible. Had an intriguing start (Kelly "saves" Tau from a gang mugging) and went all downhill from there. Off a cliff. Straight into a canyon. With jagged rocks and broken glass at the bottom. And snakes.

Human women taken by aliens - as usual, they don't have enough women. The story seems to be based on a number of tropes and triggers. I disliked how the women were portrayed, the h was bullied by other women, and for some reason they have a food fight? The h was a good character, resilient and stronger than the H. He acted like a spoiled child, even though he has special skills. They too were all too convenient. It took me multiple attempts over 6 years to finish reading this one.

First line: It was the worst part of the city to be in at 2:00 AM.

When Kelly rescues a stranger in a bad part of the city, she didn't realize at the time that her decision would be a life-changing one. The man she rescues is not really a man, but a member of a team of aliens who have come to Earth to locate females suitable for mating after the destruction of their own home world.

This alien abduction theme is typical O'Connor, as are the themes of dubious consent (whatever that really means) and alien impregnation. If the reader can get over the initial rape-y scenes, the rest of the novel reads well, particularly as the alien, Tau, is gentle and caring enough not to be alpha all the time. The narrative stays mainly with the human Kelly, so the reader never really knows what Tau thinks. This device helps make the isolation that Kelly feels on an alien planet even more complete.

I enjoyed this book and will definitely read more by this author.

Jesus Christ, that's one of the worst covers I've ever seen. That dude is no way looks leonine.

Anyway, I was clearing out my Kindle and found this, decided to give it a shot without checking the blurb first. Imagine my surprise to find it's a story about Leonine aliens abducting and impregnating women from Earth. And they speak very little English.

It was really quite bizarre, trying to understand what the guys were trying to say with their choppy English. The story seemed to rely heavily on explanations of fairly mundane things, with very little time spent on character development and having Tau and Kelly warm up to each other. I would have loved to read a scene where Kelly attempted to teach Tau some common English words or phrases they may use with each other on a regular day-to-day basis. Even though no character was developed very much, I knew the basic personality types and winged it.

My only complaint is about the first two sex scenes. I know people will use the phrase "dubious consent", but I personally feel that hog-tying a woman and having sex with her after she pleads "Don't" is rape - regardless of whether or not she had an orgasm. It did not endear me to Tau in any way.

There may have been a continuity issue... I thought Tin had claimed Lovey and she had miscarried due to his "rough play", but then at the end, it says Tau delivered Lovey's baby. Maybe it was a second pregnancy? I dunno.

I didn't really want to like this story due to the "dubious consent" and difficult English, but in the end I guess I thought it was alright.

I'd recommend this for those that didn't get pissed off at attempting to read "Flowers for Algernon"...

I’m back!

It’s been a while since I reviewed anything… Spent a lot of time writing and reading and I think critique deserves time. So here we go!
There are three obvious points to show here before you read this book.
1) Heroine is not a damsel in distress, and certainly no winy or unbearable! She’s a tough gal!
2) Male Alpha is a sort of cat race humanoid (That’s always a plus in my list of requirements). But he is not an unfeeling, uncaring macho… He has a tender side.
3) The setting and the story itself is not very deep or complex.
The story itself is pretty much predictable in some aspects and cliché. But if you’re looking for something along the lines of abduction, sex, love and loveable easy characters; this should be your first choice. The story though simple, has its original intriguing moments. The h/h are very sweet and you get to love them. But the truth is, their background isn’t too deep to really get to know them. A very enjoyable story, which could have pushed a little further to be different from other alien erotica/romance novels; that did not happen but I recommend the book to anyone looking for a quick hormonal read.

*dnr, never-to-read, but i'm giving it a shot.

*H impregnates h; skipped over those two scenes.

*omg!! alien men come to earth, pick up 4 women, and accidentally, the h.... and guess what, she had 'bad genes' aka 'not blonde'!! ugh. i don't mind it when aliens are oohing and aahing over pale gold hair, but i have serious issues about 'dark hair = bad genes'.

*also, i'd rather not have alien bad guy paired up with an innocent earthling :| (Tin and Lovey). (Tin is the one trying to 'claim' Kelly as well, since Tau doesn't want her as mate)
*oops. apparently Lovey isn't much of an 'innocent' earthling. guess Tin's behavior had to be justified somehow. (lovey accuses kelly of tyring to seduce Tin and Kinko).

*hmm... other girls gang up on kelly, and she physically assaults sheryl to get them to leave her alone. first part: happens all the time! (girls ganging up against one member to promote solidarity within group). second part: not exactly a good, viable option in most cases. but hey, if it worked for h on alien-world, more power to her.

*so, to rescue the h, H first lets things get out of hand (aka, did not mate her), and when she's taken away to a lab to be dissected, he cuts of the fellows hand... and now if the attacked guy dies, H will be held accountable... sheesh.

* Testosterone didn't seem to be a good conductor for complex emotions
uh... blech

* Tin shrugged off-handedly. Osit knew very well that his woman had lost her cub because their love play had gotten a little out of hand

Not my favorite from this author but I did find the whole progression of the relationship interesting and I'm always a sucker for surviving the wild type of stories and this made me give a 4 star rating to what have been a 3 star rating.

I read this weeks ago so I can't give a typical review but will highlight points I remember.

1. Like Carolyn F. stated in her review, I appreciated that this wasn't an insta-love type of book. It became gradual and that's unique in the genre. It felt more realistic despite being sci-fi erotica/romance. I liked how the couple grew together and the struggles they encountered.

2. When you think there's no hope, things change and you get all one could ask for.

3. There's a survival among the wilds feature to this book which is something I particularly love and this Chick held her own. She's a survivor and I found that to be done in a realistic way and completely admirable.

4. Ending was a little abrupt for me but most of O'Connor's novels are that way. You just have to look past it.

Overall: An enjoyable read and a little different in the lack of insta-love which will appeal to many. I recommend it!

I loved this story, and I was intrigued the entire time.
I love Kelly and Tau.
The story was marvelously paced and well-written, with more plot than sex (shocker, since this is considered an erotic novel!)

Don't misunderstand me, there were a few sex scenes, and they were niiiiiice, but I also really liked the story.

Will definitely be re-reading and, in the grand scheme of things, that's best recommendation I can make.

I would have rated this 5 stars but the ending felt rushed. I wish the story was at least another 25 pages longer. I loved the H and h and the cast of characters. I loved that the author made this story feel real by keeping the language barrier going and showing progression. I really wish the author would make this into a series.

Alien abduction romance

This SciFi romance has heat and a lot of hurt. The heroines reaction to being forced to breed wasn't expected. Her life is tough and it seems like everyone is against her. Then the hero steps up and takes care of her.

The story is a bit dated. The heroine is lost downtown and doesn't have a phone or GPS to find her way.

Multiple typos. One a person's name (lovely or lovey?) and another big one, Creek instead of Cree (native).

I really liked this book. A nice, easy and fast read. It wasn’t too slow nor too fast, it had just enough suspense and no annoying melodrama, it was refreshingly realistic in many ways other SF romance lack. There have been some objectionable things like their first two sexual encounters, but it was never made an issue, not for her nor him and not even the situations itself had a mentioning part in the book, so it was easy to overlook them.
I especially liked their language problem, that they had trouble communicating throughout the whole book. I don’t like all the translation devices in most SF books and even worse are the sometimes more than ridiculous magical ways to get instant language learning. On the top of my ridiculous list is Captive Surrender by Angela Castle, there she learns his language through a blood exchange. I mean, really? Why and how should that work? It is never explained or even questioned and all she has to say about it is "Ah, that’s what the blood exchange was for." There are many examples like this out there and I thought it almost refreshing that in this book that wasn’t the case. They not only hadn’t an easy way out of the communication problem, but they didn’t even learn the other language perfectly in just some weeks. So refreshingly realistic. I really appreciate it.
But I didn’t understand how the men could start relationships and sexual affairs with the woman with so limited understanding of their language (I do know that no language is needed for sex, mind you, it just seemed more difficult this way).

To be honest I have conflicting opinions on this book. Due to that god awful cover and the inefficient blurb I thought this was one of those badly written, mindless smuts. So the existence of a relatively accomplished plot and round characters took me by a pleasant surprise. So did the fact that Kaitlyn O'Connor can write.
There are two cases of rape in the books which pissed me off, but I was too sleepy to get worked up on it, but if for most people it might be a turn off. I liked that unlike most books I read, this writer did not have many delusions when it came to the American Government. I hate it when writers are blind in the name of being a patriot.
I liked the language barrier between them and how it created some interesting scenes.
The hero and the heroine, well I could both take them and leave them. They weren't anything special. I liked that the hero admitted to his fault at being racist but hated when he blamed the heroine for what happened to her because she tried to rescue him, I also liked that the heroine was self sufficient and did not pine away on a boy, but instead got shit done. But there were scenes where she was too unfeeling that bothered me.

All in all, it wasn't a spectacular read, but it wasn't painful to read either.

Kelly saves Tau, Tau returns the favour when the choice comes to killing or abducting her. He chooses to abduct her and become a part of the experiment to attempt to populate and expand the genepool on New Ducran. Some of the challanges faced by the couple are heart-breaking.
'Oddur' is my new favourite word. I really like the story except for the rape aspect in the begining. The idea that 4 out of 5 of the women were raped and forcefully impregnated as well as abducted in order to make them more willing to make the transition to living on a fereign planet is repulsive. the fact that Kelly was aroused and we're later informed she had wanted and enjoyed it makes no differance in the fact that she was tied down naked and taken without her permission, and Maggie and 2 other women were under sedation/unconscious, only 1 woman willingly had sex. 'The truth was, the moment a male became aroused, his brain turned to mush and he had no more idea whether a woman was in heat or desperate to fight him off than a rock.' Excuse me?! THAT is the excuse Kelly/the author makes to make rape ok?! SERIOUSLY?! I've been raped... it is NOT OK! and i will not make excuses for the man that raped me!

What a lovely find The Lion’s Woman is. Ms. O’Connor has written a superior science fiction inter species romance. She grabs your interest from the first action scene. The suspense is riveting and the romance is hot. The one thing I would like to know more about is the society of the Ducranians. Yet on the whole this book was a wonderful read.

Wow!

Another great book from this amazing author. I don't really know what to say except that I just couldn't put this book down. An interesting twist to aliens raiding earth whom had to start everything from the beginning for the sake of survival. Awesome! I felt so sad when Kelly lost her first baby, I felt her pain, but I suppose that is where this author's strengths lay...making the readers feel for the characters through the good and the bad of reality. Great book. Stimulating until the end.

What love about this author's writing was that you could feel the emotions express by the character as if it was your own. For instance I felt how scared both Kelly and Tau was when Tau had to go back to Lantet to gather more supplies when they realized that Kelly was pregnant again and she needed a healthy diet for a pregnant woman. I also love how the story was weaved. And that was what made it an enjoyable read.

Pretty good read if you like scifi romance. Spoiler alert: My issues were regarding the hero - 1) shot lost their "cub" and we never got to see his reaction and 2) he was unwilling to "claim" her and that caused her to be in danger. He wasn't willing to fight for her until the second half of the book.
