Wicked Blaze Correctional. The home to the most dangerous criminals of each realm. A private correctional institution that had to be placed on a separate realm because of the threat the inmates posed. Drake had sent me here, to ruin me. To destroy me and any memory of his egregious act that could incriminate him for being the homicidal maniac he was.
What he hadn’t counted on? Me. He hadn’t counted on my strength and my magic rising up to become the scariest damn thing in this place.
It helped that I had a human by my side that showed up to breakfast every morning covered in blood. I should probably ask Dimitri what that was about one of these days. Don’t forget Milo! An Ink Mage with the nifty ability to not only interpret dreams but to change them, as well as reality itself. Did I mention he was absolutely mental, maybe it was because of the insomnia? I don’t know what to tell them about one of the lead guards, Vaughn, who keeps claiming I am his ‘mate’ and promising to get me out. Or how to explain the odd feeling I have about the new inmate that just showed up, seeming a bit too sweet for this place.
There is something changing in the air though, something different than what has been going on the past six months, so what has been changing? Maybe it's the magic eater that keeps floating by my cell every morning? I didn’t care what the change was as long as I got out. I had a witch to kill and I wasn’t going to be able to put Drake in the ground from here.
Welcome to Wicked Blaze Correctional - Book 1 of the Wronged Series. This trilogy will be a fast burn reverse harem filled with dark subject matters, a strong FMC, and insane men. This institution isn’t like any correctional facility you’ve read about before. It’s brutal, cutthroat, and there are no rules except that you can’t leave until your sentence is done… which is never. Follow Valentina and her men on a journey filled with revenge, steam, and strong characters that don’t fit the norm of society. A bit crazy? That is just normal.
This Fantasy medium/fast burn RH contains several dark themes that readers should be aware of: swearing (I know surprising, right?), gore, violence, assault, and sexual themes suitable for +18. Additionally, this book does have a mature light m/m themes that develop over time.

Just remember to love cats... that's not negotiable.
I literally could not wait to get my hands on this once I read the blurb I had to have it! It’s the next Academy type for me. What better way to get all the main characters in one place than put them all in jail? What better way to give them presence than make them all psychotic? Perfect excuse for violence, danger from inmates and possessive/protective men.
It had all those things in spades.
It kind of hard though to make your FMC righteous/innocent when she’s in jail, so I say why bother? Of course Valentina doesn’t deserve to be in jail... she’s completely innocent
Well she’s innocent of the crime that put her there but not innocent by any stretch. We’re told she’s the “big bad” in the jail but really I think that title should go to the human who followed her in. Dimiti . He’s one scary MoFo and even the other supernaturals give him a wide berth
"it was interesting that people went out of their way to accommodate for Dimitri despite being human. Goes to show power isn't always brute strength, sometimes it's just being terrifying."
He lives and breathes for Valentina and is completely obsessed with her. Very like all the other males in this picture! There’s something about her that inspires obsessive and violent tendencies in all these inmates. They would kill and die for her. Which suits them pretty well being in a prison filled with bad guys to torture!
This prison itself is a bit like Azkaban, complete with its own Death Eaters sorry Magic Eaters. It's inmates like supernatural Silence of the Lambs.
only hotter
As far as the plot goes it’s doesn’t stray too far from highlighting the violence and psychotic obsession of the men, but it does move forward and we’re left in the very different place at the end. Valentinas powers are a little confusing and didn’t have much explanation behind why they were changing so much throughout. It was the men who stole the show for me. It’s one I’ll read on for them and not her. She was a little “Mary Sue” in that everyone fell immediately in love with her, which got a little old even when she was picking up snakes for no reason at all. She’s also impossible to kill and her magic knows no bounds
It might not have been the most polished of writing but I would certainly give 5 out of 5 for the bag guys. They were gritty, dangerous and delicious. Dimitri in particular will make me want to read on.
If you’d like to read something similar to this but in an Academy setting I would recommend Academy of Six it had a really similar feel and the harem reminded me a lot of this one
Thank you to Sinclair's PA for hooking me up with this ARC ----------------------------------------
This was a fast paced, short (timewise), RH, with a strong alpha female druid as our FMC.
The guys -
Dimitri - human serial killer of anyone offending Val... he and Val love each other but I think to some degree they all do. Knew Val in HS.
Milo - ink mage who can draw things into existence, and occasionally get prophesies, I guess you could say.
West - werefox that's easy going. Seems like he is right where he needs to be. Also is her mate. He helps Dimitri with getting rid of bodies.
Vaughn - previously a guard at the prison. Mated to Val and they knew each other in HS but he was a couple years older. . Francisco - used to be a magic eater and is now human, maybe?
Vicious - Val's cobra familiar.
So what's the plot?
They are all at Wicked Blaze Correctional. Not all are prisoners. Someone's trying to kill Val. They need to get out. And deal with a few people on the way.
I am so happy Francisco got to go when they left.
I love how crazy they all are. Some are all alpha male, but there's a beta too. Others that just fit.
Wonder when the next book will be out?
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
So I love the main characters, I really do. They're fun and unique.
The plot though I felt like I had stepped into the middle of the story and then rushed off at 1,000,000 mph. There were a lot of good ideas, really good ideas, but it all felt rushed and some things suffered for it.
There was also a little wavering in character behaviors that didn't quite make sense or felt like it was thrown in as extra information that could have been extrapolated on into something really good, but wasn't.
Overall, very cool ideas, unfortunately very rushed and half formed.
Sometimes you just find an author who writes characters in a way you really like, and this is the second series I've read by M. Sinclair, which I liked for exactly the same reasons: it had dark, morally grey characters and themes, it somehow managed to make me enjoy tropes I'm not usually into, and it was hot and fun.
Valentina is an incredibly powerful drak druid, who has an array of powers that neither she or the reader fully understand yet, but she can partially or completely incinerate someone by touching them. A handy skill when you've been set up and wrongly sent to a prison in another dimension for supernaturals who are so dangerous, who's crimes are so awful, or who have managed to piss off the powerful. The latter is why Valentina is in there and she vows to escape to get revenge on the man who murdered her sister and stuck her in prison.
Luckily for Valentina she has an array of men to pass the time with and aid her in her mission: Dimitri, a human serial killer who secretly kills anyone who has wronged her, Milo, a psychotic, yet sweet ink mage, West, a fox shifter, Vaughan, a wolf shifter prison guard, and one other who I won't spoil.
I liked the guys, but Demitri was my favourite, followed by Milo. The men all manage to stand apart from one another and don't fall into the RH trap of all being interchangeable. The multiple pov is welcome as we get a taste of each of the men.
The plot revolves around introducing us to the characters and their relationship, but also getting the hell out of there, and I liked the set up for the next book.
As my first foray into the prison RH genre, I enjoyed it. I don't think I would if it was contemporary, but the supernatural creature angle works.
Basically, if you like your characters dark, like a steamy fast burn read (which I usually don't), like dark themes, but actually want something that is light hearted, then I definitely recommend this book.
It's not the worst thing I've read. I liked it initially and as it went on I started losing interest. Dimitri was so psycho that I got tired of it. Like what was the reason. If you ever make the mistake of offending Valentine , even looking at her the wrong way, it's over for you. It made no sense and we had to read about that at the start of every single day like it was cute.
The pacing was super fast and usually I don't have a problem with this but I felt like there was not enough time for us to grow to like the characters before they start feeling like their lives are over if she's not with them or to get enough details on why things were happening the way they were. Then also the super special-ness she's going to have in the next book with the way it ended. I kinda want to know what happens next so I'll be on the lookout for book two.
Interesting characters but geez...too much going on. Too much insta-love. Too much everything. Its like when you're driving around looking at Christmas lights as a kid, and you pass by house after house at high speed...you press your nose to the glass telling your parents to "stop!" "Slow down puh-leeeeeze" but they won't. Cuz, nope. They have places to be.
And that's what this book feels like. Not enough explanation of ...anything. Mystery hot dudes literally materializing in her room/bed with uncontrollable love/lust/obsession with her. Mate bones solidifying right and left. Phew. I'm tired just thinking about it.
And, I can get on board with villains and serial killers as love interests, if its done with dark or self-deprecating humor. OR, if its used as a way to push the reader to throw away expectations (Masks of Under does this really well in the first book). This book misses that mark by miles, so I just felt uncomfortable about it all (and I normally love morally-grey characters).
I got a bit ahead of myself and reread this because I saw that the sequel will be out in OCTOBER.
Now I have highlights of all the important plot point and am ready for #2!
Must admit the plot is pretty thin and the characters aren't very complex. All the guys love and worship Valentina, and I love reading about this complete devotion, so I love this book. ---------------------------------------------- Original Review
Oh my gawd, I just realized there's no second book yet and I am going to diieeeee!
Love sexy men who protect, love and cherish their woman? Get all hot and bothered reading steamy scenes with said sexy men? Get a power high when the heroine is undoubtably the strongest person in a reverse harem?
Dnf at 25% There’s nothing really wrong with this book I just am not in the mood for it. The only thing I would like to point out is that it’s really confusing at first. I feel like the author cut out the first two chapters and I am missing the basics.
Wicked Blaze Correctional is the first installment of The Wronged series. In it, you will meet some criminals living a very interesting life at this correctional facility. Why is it interesting? Well the guards don't really care if anyone dies or gets roughed up a bit every now and then. Mostly because they did their job for them basically. It doesn't mean that they don't like to threaten the inmates from time to time but they are kind of lazy.
After all that, we do get to meet Val, Vaughn, Dimitri, and Milo. I feel like I might be missing someone at the moment but I'm sure I will remember them later on. Oh, we also get to meet the biggest asshole ever - Drake. He is just one of those guys that is very easy to be suspicious of. Especially when it comes to his weird ass interest in Val.
Life in this facility isn't easy but when Val figures out that Drake is up to some sneaky ass dirty ways - she needs a way out of this crappy place stat. So while they guys are basically trying to confuse their love to her, they all come up with a plan to sneak her out and go far far away from Drake and his minions.
Of course drama unfolds and things get a little chaotic but I ate it all up. I really liked getting to meet everyone, but Drake, and just see what happened to them in their past but also see how evil they were in today's world. Especially when it came to protecting their mate.
Definitely excited to dive into the next book just to see what is going to happen next.
M Sinclair has done it again! This was another fantastic read by such a fantastic author. M Sinclair has been on my ‘automatic one click list’ for a while, and she never disappoints! Each book is extremely unique and original and this one definitely lives up to the hype! I loved all of the characters in WBC and am always a fan of a strong FMC. if you love dangerous characters who would do anything for the ones they love & psycho males who show a different side of themselves just for their girl then you have come to the right place! definitely don’t want to miss out on this one! (:
Definitely an entertaining read. The only thing that bugged me was how everyone was sooo head over heels with Valentina from the minute that they saw her, but I did love their interactions with her.
The best thing for me was that Val was not an innocent idiot. She was completely bloodthirsty and I liked that.
I am curious to see where the series is going now that our gang destroyed the prison.
Little disappointed. I was expecting more action and darker themes, being that it was supposed to be a prison. I did not mind the different POVs, that was decent. However, your boyfriend and the phrasing of words( in truth or honestly ) showed up a lot! The being light of this story is that the FMC is NOT apologetic about her wants or her mind set!
3.75 stars This book was little bit psychotic, but very much entertaining for me. It made stalking and murder-for-love seem like a good thing. I guess if you're a female in a predominantly male prison having someone serial kill others who threaten, assaulted, or generally annoy you is a good thing. Kinda sweet in a completely crazy way...
It would've been amazing if the story began at the beginning of Valentina's prison sentence. I felt that I was missing something and even double checked to make sure that this was book 1. I wish I could've experienced her becoming a killer just to survive in prison after being convicted... That could've been a huge opportunity for character growth for the FMC. It was a bit rushed but well written as far as I can remember. The magic situation was a tad bit confusing at times but I enjoyed everything else, including the ending which didn't leave me hanging but definitely left me wanting more. Added to my "waiting for more" TBR list for sure.
I’m not really sure what to say about this one. I read up to 40% and then left it for a few months. After picking it back up it wasn’t exactly a slow read, but I couldn’t get back into it. Multiple POV, the fmc is already strong and vengeful, the guys are pretty much all murdery or okay with killing, fawning over the fmc. There wasn’t anything wrong with it, it was just there. Favourite character was West.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and can’t wait for the next book. The characters were so distinct and unique. They were perfect with their imperfections. I adore Dimitri. Recommend.
This was a good read. Valentina didn't start out as a murderous psycho but events in her life have led her to become this in order to survive the world she now finds herself in. At her side is a serial killer who's been in love with her since they were teenagers, a broken mage with a train full of baggage, a shifter who claims her as his mate also from high school, another shifter that truly seems way too nice to fit in and finally a magic eater. The group dynamics are interesting but they work. Valentina is more than meets the eye and her reason for living in revenge. There's so much more that happens in the story but I don't want to give any of it away. Suffice to say that everything is not as it seems and you're left with plenty of questions in the end. Truly enjoyable read though.
absolutely fantastic! didn't expect most of the twists and the end was a cliffhanger perfectly timed. join this bad ass and her mismatched group to find out what happens in Wicked Blaze Correctional ....
So! I enjoyed this book immensely. The MC was badass and ruthless and a bit (a lot) fucked up but she owned up to it. She was also smart and had a softer side, which all put together made her a compelling protagonist to follow. The guys were also unique and likable. The sex scenes were hot as hell and there weren't too many of them which is great since some RH tend to become a sexfest with no plot. It was a fun ride from beginning to end and I'm really looking forward to the next installement.
There were some issues though. An my biggest one was the insane overuse of the word 'fucking'. It was used, wait for it.... 316 times. I'm serious, I counted. Of that amount, maybe 5% of it was used to refer to the actual act of fucking, the rest of the time it was used as an adjective, an adverb... hell, I don't even know anymore. All I know is you could remove that word completely and it wouldn't change a single thing, expect for making my reading exprience much more enjoyable. It was fucking annoying. And incredibly distracting. It leads to my other complaint: all the characters talk the same. They don't have a distinct voice. They all use the word 'fucking' like a bunch of edgy teens who think that makes them cool or more grown up or whatever. Whether it's in the dialogue or their inner monolgue. Even Francisco, who has supposedly been dead for decades, if not centuries. Its pointed out that he's a bit old-fashioned, so why doesn't he speaks more properly?
So yeah, those were big enough flaws that I'm not rating it 5 stars. Still a really fun book though. I hope book 2 comes out soon.
From the moment I started reading this book, my first thought was "This is Azkaban on steroids". And boy, did I get it right.Valentina, the FMC, is sent to Wicked Blaze Correctional after she was framed by Drake. It's safe to say that Drake is a POS with a hidden agenda on a power trip. Val's mission? To kill him. But to do that, she has to get out of Wicked Blaze first. Insert a bunch of protective/obsessive men who are willing to do whatever it takes to keep Val safe.
A serial killer/stalker, ink mage, guard, fox shifter and let's not forget what happens when your resident dementor turns into a scorching hot guy! I was ALL IN, couldn't put this book down.
And while it doesn't end on an evil cliffhanger, it does leave me with enough questions and mysterious suspense to make me want to read more.
It comes as no surprise that the author (again) left me swooning over the characters. She's definitely nailed the dark vibe down in her series and I love the way her mind works, producing these wonderful series. I'm a huge fan!
What do you get when you have a bunch of crazy characters in jail? You get a crazy and awesome story about crazy and sexy characters. I love the characters and the story line is great and o can’t wait for the next book to see how this goes. The Mc is snarky and crazy and I love her tho my favorite is the human psychopath. I just love him. And Milo.
Well- it was ok. Interesting premise with interesting harem members but the dialogue felt YA and it felt shallow. I was disappointed since I really liked the blurb.
Lots of spice and explicit sexy times but there is a lot going on. Too much for me, I don’t feel excited about following it to the bitter end.
We start the story after Valentina has been in supernatural jail for 6 months. 6 months of cuddle sleeping with Dimitri? Touching Milo? Vaughn convinced she is his mate? And no sex until now?
We get Francisco and West introduced before they make a jail break- in one of the strangest ways. Basically V becomes the “stone” or anchor for all the crimson magic eaters and her magic morphs into something that carries them away from trouble during the break out. It’s all mysterious but I have a hard time believing V is a stone cold killer. Needs her to be darker I think. Oh well.
I need more! I wasn’t sure what I was getting into with this book but holy shit! Excuse my language but this book was amazing. It checked off everything I could ever want. Strong heroine. Check. Hot as hell bad boys. Check. Amazing plot. Check. Like could I need anything more? Please give me more! I’m on my hands and knees begging.
This book was seriously nuts. But also utterly captivating, at least to me.
It had a kind of vibe that was a mash up of ... Ann Aquirre's Dred Chronicles / Perdition series and Four Psychopaths. Both series are ones that I love, so it is no surprise I loved this ... and utterly devoured it.
The world that Valentina lives in is very dark. An alternate realm turned into a prison isn't the only horror that he must deal with. Fortunately, she isn't alone, and her allies are more abundant than she knows. Very cool story and some heartbreaking backstories.
