My review :

When a very stubborn Miss is determined to prove an equally headstrong man he is wrong ...

This series is just getting better and better, each new book contributes further to the global plot.
I wants to know what will come after.
I am even coming to like Montagu.

If In the beginning of the series, Minerva was not presented under the best light, she quickly found her place in my heart. From her very first encounter with Inigo, I fell for her witty correspondence and her detached appearance about her lack of instruction and silliness.
How she changed during the course of the series, now she takes matter in hands instead of letting her mother decide for her future.
And Inigo, for someone so clever, he is very smug and quite blind, or more I would say, eager to lie to himself instead of recognizing Minerva’s weight on his nerves and heart.
He was unable to point out the many new feelings she awakened, determined to recognize only a physical answer for each new emotion she stirs, even when she haunts his dreams and disturbs his working moments.
It was a delight to see he fall and drown. With his obdurate trait, he is so certain of the fibs he tells himself.
Yet, never I was angry at him, not even upset. He had such an upbringing, it is normal he can’t recognize something he never saw nor experienced. And as a man of science, he needs proofs to ascertain things exist. He just didn’t see he became the feedstock of a test, Minerva’s experiment.

Mrs Emma V Leech has me on edge, will Jemima be able to save herself, will Helena fall prey of a blackguard, and what of Matilda and Montagu ...
Even if I am eager to see what awaits every remaining girl, I afraid I will have to say also goodbye to them. They became in some ways friends, each very peculiar and lovable.
So I can’t give less than 5 stars for this witty and moving tale of teaching and learning about love.

I've been plowing thru this series but don't think I have written a review on one yet. There are a group of girls who have been debutants but are basically wallflowers and have no luck finding husbands. They formed a club - the peculiar girls club, they meet, have tea and support each other. They decide it's time to be bold and each girl puts a dare in the hat, then each girl must pick and perform the dare. I guess not surprisingly each time the girl does the dare she, she ends up with a husband. The situations and men are all different so it does stay interesting. The stories are all light, quick reads each has it's share of spice at various intervals. I enjoy these fun easy stories and will keep up with the series and other books by this author.

I’d been eagerly awaiting Minerva and Inigo’s story, and I was not disappointed.

Minerva has evolved a lot over the course of the series; she went from a silly, spoiled girl to a woman who has realized that she’s never given herself enough credit. She’s single-minded, but also cognizant of and willing to accept consequences–which is just as well, as she refuses to be put off her pursuit of Inigo. I adored her for her determination.

Inigo is delightfully awkward with interpersonal relationships. He’s a stereotypical intellectual, so focused on his work that he forgets to take care of himself, without much care for social niceties. It was charming to see his despair over his developing infatuation/obsession with Minerva, as he struggles to bring together who he was and who he’s becoming.

Looking at them, their relationship shouldn’t make sense–their upbringings are disparate, as are their current lives and situations. Minerva, however, is absolutely determined to show him how they could fit together. Her proposal of it as an experiment is brilliant and shows an understanding of how his mind works. For his part, Inigo tries to do the honorable thing, but is worn down in the face of Minerva’s relentless affection.

More of the Peculiar Ladies returned in this book, but were for some reason easier for me to keep track of this time; usually I just shrug and regard them as interchangeable because I can’t remember exactly who’s who. They seemed better drawn this time–or perhaps it was because they interacted more within context, so they were easier to keep distinct.

The story ran pell-mell toward its inevitable conclusion, quick enough to stay engaging without dragging or skipping ahead. I would’ve read it in a night if I hadn’t started it too late, honestly, and squidged in a chapter or two whenever I had a break during the day until I could sit down to finish it.

My excitement for Minerva and Inigo’s story was rewarded, to the point that I’ll probably reread it before any other book in the series. (At least until Matilda and Montagu are released.)

When A Determined Lady Gives Chase

I enjoyed this book, especially the initial exchanges between Inigo and Minerva. I admired Minerva's vivacious tenacity. Inigo was an interesting character with his keen intellect, curiosity, and drive, but he was not as fascinating as I expected. I wanted more insight into what drove him. His difficult past explained his philosophy about love, but only scratched the surface of his obsession with work.

As a natural philosopher, Inigo didn't use any scientific methods to prove his assertion that love is just "lust with a ring on its finger." He introspected about what was happening between him and Minerva, but I guess I expected him to devise experiments or document lame biological explanations as to why his feelings were changing as their relationship progressed. It was a good book, but I think the title "To Experiment with Desire" is a misnomer. I believe "To Succumb to Desire" would be more apt since that is what Inigo did. The poor thing didn't have a chance with Minerva.

Enjoyed it, I loved Inigo I found him surprisingly endearing.
Jemima...I'm very intrigued to see her arrangement with Solo.
Helena...I still don't really like her. There was a part in the book where Minerva says that Helena did not show her true personality to others only the facade of spoil rich girl. I feel we won't see her true self until her book and so in the meanwhile I will be extremely annoyed by her.
Matilda... I need her book now. I don't want to wait. I always felt Matilda needed to stay strong and say no to Montagu as he was the man that ruined her and only wanted her as a mistress, which of course is not a compliment. Now I still feel she should still say no to being his mistress, maybe once would be ok Idk, but damn the cracks in his cool mask are fascinating. I want more

Well, here I am on Book 8 in this series & I can't believe each book is just as good as the last. These can read as standalones but getting to know each of the 10 ladies & their dares in the beginning will help you know the character as it moves along & how much one character keeps coming to the forefront.

Miss Minerva Butler is cousin to Prunella Adolphus, who is married to the Duke of Bedwin. Minerva comes off a being snooty & vain but in fact all she really wants is to find true love. She has set her sights and her tenacity on convincing a man to fall in love with her.

Mr. Inigo de Beauvoir was thirty years old; a man of science, respected & admired for his work. He did not need the blond chit bothering him & told her exactly how he felt about her suggestion of an affair - he does not believe in love, marriage or monogamy & he will not approve of her ruining her reputation by chasing him.

Minerva is persistent & unyielding in her love for this man & her friends stand by her but do not approve of him & don't know what she can possibly see in him (as was my opinion since I first met him in an earlier book). The story is so fun, the chase is even better - it is fun, romantic, steamy & wonderful.

Not as good as most of thr previous ones in the series

I am glad I started this series from the first book, as I'm so immersed into it now I have to buy the next book as soon as I finish the previous one. With that said, this particular installment did not really keep my attention. Or I should say the main story line did not keep my attention. I was more than eager to read everything there was about the other Peculiar ladies (especially Matilda, Jemmima and Helena), but the interactions between the main characters, Minerva and Inigo, quickly became boring. Once you've read one, you've read them all.....Pretty much every interaction between the two cam be described as Minerva going to Inigo's house to bring him some food, and then ending up being cliser to/fully compromised. I will continue forward with the series as I can't wait to read the other stories (especially Matilda's), but this one was a miss for me. I saw more value in it as a prequell to Jamima and Matilda's stories, then as a story of it's own.

Book 8 in the Girls Who Dare series was about Minerva Butler, cousin to the first Heroine of the series, Prue (Duchess of Bedwin). In Book 1, Minerva started out to be a hateful character, always putting her cousin down, making fun of her, etc. She eventually proved herself to be a good person and became a member of the Peculiar Ladies' Book Club. The Hero of Book 8 was Mr. Inigo de Beauvoir, a brilliant, yet impoverished scientist. Inigo had been engaged to Harriet Stanhope (Heroine in Book 5 of this series) but she married Jasper Cadogan, Earl of St. Clair instead. Minerva met Inigo in Book 5 and became quite infatuated with him, to the point of kissing him spontaneously. From Book 5 through Book 7, Minerva and Inigo exchanged letters (often revealed at the beginning of various chapters in each of the previous books).
In Book 5, Inigo stated that he doesn't think love is anything more than "lust with a ring on its finger". Minerva was determined to prove him wrong.
The interaction between the main characters was both humorous and endearing, causing the reader to want to find out more about them and see how their relationship played out. A great tactic used by the author, indeed, as it was a great tool to keep the reader engrossed in the story.
Sometimes the book got a bit boring as it became wrapped up in explaining some of the work in which the Hero involved. If the reader isn't into scientific experiences or has little knowledge of such things, it can be a bit mind-boggling.
The interactions between the Hero and Heroine were pretty intense and definitely passionate. The humor that bounced between the two of them caused sparks to fly and the chemistry to soar. The Hero, while feeling the passion and the stirrings of emotions, was still determined that it was all just lust and desire but not love. The Heroine was just as determined to prove him wrong.
The author continued to throw in other characters from upcoming books and give a small look into what would be coming next. Once again, this was a bit distracting and inserted (in this reader's opinion) at the wrong time. If the author is determined to continue in this vein, it might be better if the insertions didn't interrupt the thoughts and interactions of the main characters.
While this book was a bit unconventional for the time period, it was also a certainty that there were men and women who felt as our Hero and Heroine did about Society's rules and regulations. It was a pleasure to read an author's look into the constraints of Society of the era and give readers a chance to realize that not everyone felt like the ton did.
Unlike many of the previous books, passion, chemistry, drama, and angst were off the charts in Book 8. At times the reader was left breathless; yet at other times, the angst was so high that the reader felt as though the heart had been pierced to the point of becoming unsalvageable. The drama kept the reader wondering what would happen next.
It was almost too painful to watch the Hero struggle with his emotions. It was so heart-wrenchingly true-to-life, as though the reader could actually feel the struggle and the pain. His constant denial that he was feeling love, but only lust and obsession, was a bit sad, but when faced with the truth of his past, the reader could nearly hear the Hero cry out, "I'm here. Don't leave me behind." Sometimes Inigo acted so badly (because he didn't understand how to love) that anyone reading the book would want to throw it at his head and yell at him, "Open your eyes, lame brain!" LOL
In most of the historical romances, there are villains and villainesses and, sometimes, just downright nasty characters written in to cause the Heros and Heroines a bit of distress. That can be said for this book and it was one character who has been present for several of the others books in the series...one I would have liked to see someone bring to his/her knees and teach him/her a lesson.
That being said, this reader was very happy to see that the nasty person did not win in this book either. The ending was exactly as it should have been for these two main characters...and this reader will not spoil for others.
With all that went on in this book, it was by far the better of the series to this point. It had everything a reader of romance novels could wish for: it had the romance, the passion, the chemistry, the drama, the intrigue, the angst, and the humor that binds a story together. As this book was so well-written, it definitely deserves a place amongst the Keeper for the Shelves books

What a fun series! A group of women call themselves the Peculiar Ladies. They have written "dares."put them in a hat, and then each draws and completes a dare. This book follows Minerva Butler as she completes her dare centered on a kiss. The series reader knows a book or two in advance about upcoming dares. Minerva has fallen for an unkempt, dedicated man of philosophy and science with a brilliant mind. However, Inigo has little money and does not believe in love or marriage. Nonetheless, Minerva pursues her man with enthusiasm and daring, and her pursuit inolves much more than the kissing dare! Poor man finally ceases running from her and tries frightening her away with threat of ruin. Eventually Inigo cannot work, or sleep, or eat for thoughts of Minerva. Will he ever figure out his "obsession" is really love? A fun and explicitly sexy read!

To Experiment with Desire is the eighth book in the Girls Who Dare series. This book is about Minerva and Inigo.

This book is probably the most lack-luster of the series, but also different because the characters are so basic? Minerva is interesting. She's pretty and likes nerdy guys, who knew? I like nerdy guys in real life, so I'm not sure if I want to read about that in a historical romance.

Inigo doesn't believe in love, he doesn't know what it is. He's a scatterbrain genius and needs a wife to take care of him, the only thing is, he doesn't want to marry. I was fine with Inigo pushing Minerva away because it gave slight tension to the story, but he was never mean (looking at you Gordy).

Overall, the story was typical, it held my interest and I don't have major complaints. I do prefer to read books with titled male heroes though (just my personal preference).

Best Series I've Read!!!

I was so excited for Minerva 's story and it didn't disappoint......... Minerva has been in love with Inigo for some time and is very clever in her perusal of him (and boy do the sparks fly when she gets a reaction). We also get to see the story behind Inigo and how he reached his views on love and how Minerva sets about changing them. I love everything a this series - the dynamics of the group of peculiar ladies are becoming more complex and there's all the support and disagreements and making up that comes with true friendship, the individual challenges for each of the characters and the way Emma V Leech touches on last and future stories. Roll on April for the next story!!!

My first book by Emma Leech :)
I really enjoyed this, despite some confusion. Partly because I started from this book and not from book 1 haha. That's why I kind of gotten confused with some parts especially those scenes with other characters POV.
My fault for looking at the previous books' reviews, that's why I was put off reading the first books. Nevertheless, I enjoyed this book a lot. And even though, the ML was kind of frustrating for me because of his indecisiveness, I liked that their story was still somewhat straightforward and does not include a lot of unnecessary misunderstandings.
Im so looking forward to Jemimah's story, so I guess I'll continue with book 9 first, and then go back to the book 1 :)

Peculiar ladies for the win!

Love is more than just a chemical reaction. Minerva proves this by making even the sceptic scientist fall in love with her. With her relentless determination, Minerva is unfazed in her quest to win Inigo's heart despite being rebuffed multiple times and told quite directly and Scandalously by Inigo that all he will ever offer her is physical pleasure. Minerva risks her ruin and scandal just to be with the man she loves even though she knows that it won't last long. But fortunately, everything turns out to be well and the couple are beginning their happily married life.

Really good read,

I really enjoy this this author and I think that this book was possibly the best in the series so far. Even though I can't wait for the final book about Matilda and Montague!
I wondered how this book would turn out and was surprised at how well it was handled. Indigo was a scientist a self educated man who had been orphaned age two and bullied in the orphanage where he grew up. He didn't know what love was until he was perched and pestered by Minerva. Beautifully written.

The Scientist finds what Love is!

Another wonderful story in the series! When we first met Minerva in Prue’s story she was a little self centered. After Prue’s marriage Minerva started to grow up. When she met Harriett’s ex-fiancé she knew he was the man for her. Indigo was raised in an orphanage and dragged himself from poverty to be a respected scientist. But when Ms. Minerva kisses him his life will never be the same.
I loved the characters and bringing these two together made such a perfect read!!

This whole series is wonderful!

I have loved every single one of the stories in this series! I’ve skipped around on the series but when I saw the author pairing Inigo and Minerva in Harriet’s story I had to see how their story will play out and it was wonderful! I love these stories so much, the author does an exceptional job of building out these characters and creating compelling stories that are hard to put down. Love them all but especially this story - it was *chef’s kiss*

I love this series!!

I wasn’t sure that I would like this story of Minerva and Inigo as much as the others, but it was a wonderful story as well. Minerva has come in contact with Inigo in a bookstore when he came to her rescue. It was instant love for her and her siege ( her word) of his heart begins. Inigo doesn’t believe in love, but then he’s never dealt with the likes Minerva either. Absolutely wonderful story and I love how the author brings in bits of the other main characters lives that also have their own books.

Thoroughly entertaining, if not always believable.
I enjoyed Minerva's transformation from Book 1 to now, and how she discovered she had more substance than she had previously thought.
I do however wish the H and h had talked more. For a book with a highly intelligent protagonist, there seemed to be little focus on any sort of intellectual compatibility.
That being said, I'm genuinely looking forward to the next installment in the series.

Loooved.

Wonderful book!

Emma Leech has done it again! Each book in this series gets better and better. What a beautiful love story. When this story starts you wonder how this couple will ever come together. Love has a way of working things out. This is a must read. Best to start with book number one.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It's well written and entertaining,
the story-line is well-paced with off the charts chemistry between
Minerva and Inigo.
I read through the book without a break up to the end.

Will definitely read all books in this series.

So, go ahead, grab this book, grab a cup of coffee and let the story give

This series continues with great strength

This is a continuation of a series, that follows a group of young ladies, who pursues their loves with the heart of a lion. The characters are beautifully portrayed, and have some unique challenges to overcome. This book would suit anybody who loves steamy historical romances that have plenty of intrigue.

I thought this would be more funny.

I would have thought this one would have been more funny. Just by the way that the letters were written in the other book. And how she presented herself. I would’ve thought this was going to be a hilarious book. It wasn’t bad, still entertaining. And they got their happily ever after.

Sweet and sizzling!

Another lovely story with a sizzling chemistry between the lead pairs! Loved every bit of it...the proposal was simply marvellous! And as usual snippets of other stories in the series are so refreshing and make you so eager for those upcoming stories! Another wonderful read.
