My friend is missing. My ex-agent is a literal angel. And the ghost inside my head is getting antsy…
And all I want to do is kill some monsters…
But somebody somewhere has it out for me. I’ve been stripped of my monster hunting license, evicted from my apartment and forced to re-evaluate my life.
But I didn’t come this far moping about!
I’m a monster hunter. In full. And I’ll get to the bottom of this conspiracy against me. Even if it leads into the depths of the darkest corners of Hope City.
My name is Kat Drummond, and I’m a monster hunter.

“There’s light beyond the darkness. And we’ll find it together.” You know those stories that stick with you? This is one of them that stays with you long after you’ve finished it, spend endless sleepless hours thinking about it. The heroes are real, reluctant, flawed, but lovable. His(author’s) characters are complex and troubled, courageous at times and foolhardy. And the twists… just when you think you’ve got this series figured out...everything gets turned on its head. An exceptionally engaging novel that explores the complex relationship between mythology and science. Woode-Smith has crafted a very unique urban fantasy, one brilliantly realized and quite delightful, weaving magic, mystery and parallel worlds together with ease. Needless to point it out, I’m loving this series! Waiting for Dead World #7 to launch!
Starting over I love this series. Each book is very well written and edited. Everything flows smoothly. There is a ton of action. The world-building is outstanding. I can picture each character and event in the story. I feel like I am a part of the book. I love Kat. She never gives up. She is tough, self-assured, and determined to help everyone. Brett continues to save the day. Deur gets a stronger role and is changing and growing. I think that Kat, Alex, and Cindy are his new Kith. This book ends with a cliff hanger like each of the books in the series.
I love these books so much! I can't get enough of Kat and the gang! They're so well written and addictive! Always the right amount of story progress and questions left at the end. Keeps you wanting for more. The characters are always so well written you can picture them with ease and makes you feel like they're actually real people instead of made up. I highly recommend reading these books!
Everything that has been building over the past 5 books came crashing down. In some ways, the beginning of this book almost feels like a throwback to the simpler times of the first book. But don't think that means Kat gets a break - if anything she is working harder than before and finding that her enemies are bigger, badder, and more firmly entrenched in society than she ever imagined. The prior events forced a shift in all her relationships as well, and we see that play out in this book.
This book also has no shortage of snarky humor. There were a few great scenes with Duer in this one. Without spoiling it, I found one mention of his activities with Alex quite amusing.
This is book 6 in the series and although it feels like the beginning of a new arc, it still builds heavily on the previous books and I would highly recommend reading all of them in order. Excellent reading, highly recommended, but warning, they are the kind of books that pull you in and don't let go, that linger in your thoughts long after you read the last page.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book as I have all the others in the series. The story just gets better an better and the characters are great and each with great depth. Kat's monster killing license has been revoked and she has no real idea why - although she could speculate. After all, Andy's father was an important man. Meantime, her best friend has voluntarily disappeared after telling her mother she was going to visit relatives, but is seemingly still local. Kat had run out of money and was evicted. As Kat can't seem to get a job at any of the agencies, Cindy used her license to start a new agency with Kat, Brett and Guy - and later on Hammond. They are doing well, but after the end of their latest job, the unthinkable happened and no-one could prevent it.
Wow the story-arc of this series is hands down so well done! This is book 6 in the series and Kat finally believes she has finished what she set out to do and she can look towards a different life.
But alas the universe has other plans, and to make matters worse she has been blacklisted so trying to continue the good fight just became a bit more complicated. Kat must find new alliances and and I have to say I am very excited about the new character introductions.
So much happened in this installment I find I can hardly wait to start the next book. This series grabs you and keeps drawing you deeper into the Kat-Verse and I am loving it.
I am definitely a lover of this series! The characters are so human and the world is a supernatural horror. I know Kat is hiding more than a ghost and a necromancer's eye, the question is will she discover it in time. Each new monster Kat kills gives her more experience. She is becoming a true slayer. This book is more character study than the action of some of the previous books, but still gives a lot of action and moves along. There is a cliff hanger bigger than some of the other books, so beware.
This series just keeps getting better and with this book amazing ending you will be coming back for more. The thrilling suspense, magic, danger and mystery will keep you on the edge of your seat. Kat has been blacklisted and now she finds herself doing the one thing she hates. Unfortunately, even that falls through, but Kat Drummond never quits. With the aide of some friends, a new agency is born, and a new adventure has just begun. I look forward to the next installment. I received an advanced copy and it did not disappoint. I loved every minute, this is a series definitely worth reading.
Kat's so low, there's nowhere else to go...or so she thought! Kat's life has gone into the pits. She has caused the death of her best friend's beau, destroyed a massive project belonging to another good friend, and seen her boyfriend get murdered, all in one massive party disaster. Then after all that, she loses her Monster-Hunter License and thus her livelihood, her apartment, and even has to give her cat to another friend to keep. What else could go wrong? Hopelessness looked Kat square in her face no matter which way she turned. Job hunting was a bust. And it was destined to get worse. But Kat is definitely determined and is not one to feel sorry for herself. She has a strength of character not normally seen. She is also the best type of true friend.
I received an ARC of this book by the author. I love this entire series, and this may have been my favorite...so far!!
I enjoyed how this book taught me more about Brett and a bit about what he has been through. It made him grow on me and even consider him a possibility for Kat. This book was brilliantly written and I felt every single part of it! Also, there was once again an amazing cliffhanger that made me need to start the next book immediately.
Lost Huntress by Nicholas Woode-Smith is the 6th in the Kat Drummond series. I would not recommend jumping straight into the middle of the series. You wouldn’t be completely lost in the sauce but you will certainly be very confused as you would of missed 5 books of world building and character development. A lot has happened to Kat, especially with the events that occurred at the end of book 5. She’s definitely grieving the death of her boyfriend and dealing with sharing eyes with a necromancer (Kat has one original eye and one from the necromancer, it allows them to communicate in a strange way). See, jumping in at book 6 will make some things very confusing. The books aren’t all that long and are fun reads. We also get a few chapters here and there from Brett’s perspective, which is new. And I found it to be a helpful way to get a bit of his backstory. Seeing from his POV how he ended up joining the Corps I think was more effective than some info-dump conversation with Kat. They fight a bunch of monsters and the team realizes there are still nefarious things afoot that are picking at them from the shadows. I am certainly interested in continuing the series and seeing what happens to Kat and company in the next book!
Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down and finished in record time.
After separating from the Necrolord who has become like a sister to Kat and killing the werewolf that killed her boyfriend, Kat has to make some major adjustments to her life. She has lost her hunter's license and can no longer legally get paid for hunting monsters. Without a reliable source of income, she's evicted from her apartment. Her friends Brett and Guy subsequently also get fired and lose their hunter's licenses as well. Eventually, she forms an agency with Brett, Guy and Cindy who has license similar to an agency license. Soon, the four of them are out hunting taking on jobs too small for a full size agency but too big for freelancers and making a name for themselves.
Their big break comes when Athena, the goddess, hires Kat for a job with a massive payout. Of course this is not a trivial job and sets Kat up for another major change in her life.
First off, I have very much been enjoying each book in the Kat Drummond series and look forward to each new book released. This one was a little shorter than I prefer, but still very good. Kat is recovering from the events of the previous book and trying to rebuild her life / work, but outside forces are working against her. Along the way, we are gradually seeing Kat work through things and coming into her own. There is some personal conflict, Brett moving to soon when Kat isn't ready, Kat overreacting some, but in the end, this group is tight and start to build something great. However, the end of this book is a real cliff-hanger, more so that some of the previous, but definitely worth reading and waiting for the next one to be released.
This series just keeps getting better and better. For a young adult action adventure/urban fantasy it has got to be one of the most entertaining. I really love Kat and she's had a ton of character growth over the series so far. The end of this one had me so into it I immediately downloaded the next one. Can't wait to find out what happens next!
P.s. I love that Duer is getting more character and is more a part of the team in this one. I hope that continues cause I love the little fellow.
Poor Kat. She just can’t get a break! The powers that be cut off her source of income, she loses her flat, her best friend is missing, even her friends have been fired because of her, and even Duer is depressed. But this tenacious and determined youngster doesn’t let that stop her from being awesome. I absolutely loved the dynamics between Brett and Kat in this volume. The author really brings out the complexities of relationships in interesting ways, and I love it.
Be warned, this one ends on a heart-stopping cliffhanger, so you’ll want to have the next one ready to dive straight in!
After being blacklisted from the MonsterHunter App, Kat, along with her friends, team up to form their own agency – Kat’s Crusaders. Things are going to get very complicated in this newest installment. Hold on for a roller coaster ride of ups and downs in this action-packed chapter of Kat’s ongoing adventures. A great novel in a fantastic series. The cliffhanger ending has me waiting with bated breath for the next novel . I received a copy of this book for an honest review.
I love this series. The way both the characters and story are revealed and the way they evolve. Nothing is static. More of people's pasts are revealed and the plot thickens!
I'm really looking forward to finding out what happens next, and how it will all turn out in the end!
I was provided a free copy of the book, I leave this review of my own volition because this book is worth reading and reviewing!
Kat finished what she started with Andy and thinks she can finally rest. But she learns that not only herself but her friends have been black listed as well. They manage to find a way to keep doing what they love and helping people though! There are lots of great new characters in this book that I didn’t even consider yet! And Kat is finally starting to possibly come to terms with Colin’s death and her own possible feelings for someone else. Another book I had trouble putting down!!
I did not see that coming, an eye for an eye as the saying goes. A time out, of sorts, allows Kat and the Necromancer to come to an agreement. I wish the Marshall could come back, he and the Demon of the mountain were good characters. A lot could be said for this book but it would give away the story line. I am glad she does not go down the woe is me route for long and isn't boy crazy. When all is said and done this is a good book and the author is not slowing down.
This is a great story as Kat’s life is falling apart. Her friends are getting fewer and fewer. She lost her monster hunting license and can’t make any money to live on so no food and home! She finally realizes that she’s a hunter and no one is going to stop her. Hopefully her few friends will be there for her and maybe find a few colleagues along the way will help. Will her life finally start coming together? I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series! Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story. Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
"Badges? We don't need no stinkin' badges." Kat is a monster hunter. For her, it's more than just a job. Her life revolves around it. So what is she supposed to do when her monster-hunting license gets revoked and she's no longer allowed to hunt monsters? On top of that, her best friend has decided to pull a disappearing act, she's been evicted from her apartment, and she's still dealing with the loss of the love of her life. Where does she go from here? We're about to find out.
Kat has made enemies. Not just the monsters she's been killing, but members of a shadow group within the Council. They have pulled her name from the monster hunter app and removed her license. What's a girl to do? Find some friends and work as an associate under their license. Another fun and mayhem filled chapter in the life of Kat Drummond.
Another awesome book. Definitely a big cliffhanger. I'm glad I started reading these when there are already a bunch of books. So, I'm going to read the next and see what happens. Hopefully Treth got some closure on this one.
