With London finally at peace, there is only one threat remaining to the stability of the monarchy... The queen is without an heir.

Queen Alexandra is done with marriage, but as always, the Duke of Malloryn has a plan. With Malloryn insisting upon an heir for the realm, Alexandra reluctantly agrees to accept a husband. But who? With Europe's most eligible bachelors in London to attend her exhibition, she finds herself pining for the only man who has never betrayed her. The only man she wants. And the one man she cannot have.

A queen's duty is never done.

Alexandra's feelings for her dearest friend, Sir Gideon, have always been warm, but a stolen kiss pushed a friendship into dangerous waters. How can she explain that she has never known desire before? How can she stand to be in the same room as Gideon, without betraying her feelings? And how can she marry someone else?

But there's an assassin on the loose, and while she may currently be at odds with Sir Gideon, he's the only man who can save both her wounded heart—and the future of the realm. Foreign princes and meddling dukes, bedamned.

This is a novella written for the fans :) for now it’s only available through Bec’s newsletter, but if I’m remembering correctly in the future it will be available to purchase as well :) if you are as much of a fan of her London steampunk series as I am, you have been waiting very impatiently ever since she announced we will get this gem :) because it is set after all ten novels currently available, I obviously won’t go into any details what it’s about ;) all I will say is that it gives us glimpses of our beloved couples as well as forming a certain new one… ;) also, there is a teaser of where we are headed in the future… because yes, in a few years we will go back to this world ;) *squeals with excitement* :) you do need to read all previous stories from this series to really enjoy this one but if you are familiar with them, this will be the best gift you can get :) at least it was for me ;) it definitely made me want to reread the whole series… ;)

I've given this a B- at AAR, so 3.5 stars rounded up.

Bec McMaster’s fantastic  London Steampunk: The Blue Blood Conspiracy  series reached a breathtakingly exciting close back in February 2019 withDukes Are Forever, wrapping up the overarching plotlines and giving the enigmatic Duke of Malloryn his HEA, leaving the Company of Rogues all happily settled as they continue in their mission to protect their queen and the realm.

But the author wasn’t quite done, and shortly afterwards, gifted her newsletter subscribers with From London, With Love, a long-ish novella (now available to buy) in which the long-suffering Queen Alexandra gets her very own HEA as well.  It’s a story readers had been asking for, and because it’s definitely one for followers of the series, it will make little sense if you haven’t read at least some of the novels that precede it.

When we first met Alexandra in the original  London Steampunk  books, she was nothing more than her husband’s puppet; the Prince Consort kept her drugged up and docile while he and the ruling Echelon pursued ruthless policies against the non-blue blood denizens of London, keeping the humans, mechs and wervulfen beaten down and using them as fodder for the draining factories that supported blue blood society.  At the end of that series, the Prince Consort was killed, the regime was overthrown, and by the time the  Blue Blood Conspiracy  series opened three years later, the Queen is recovered and is once more on the throne and ruling with the help of a much more tolerant and even-handled council comprised of her staunch allies (Malloryn, Barrons and Mina, Lynch, Blade etc.).  But as the books in that series showed, the throne is still vulnerable and the political situation, while improving, is still not completely stable.  From London, With Love opens as Malloryn puts a proposal to Alexandra, one she doesn’t care for at all – namely, she needs to marry and produce an heir or name her successor. Should something happen to her before either of those things is done, it could ignite a(nother) civil war.

“I’m tired of war.  I want to take a bloody holiday with my wife without the palace going up in flames.”

Alexandra might not like it, but she sees the wisdom of Malloryn’s words and agrees to seek a husband; at least this time, she will be choosing for herself and marrying on her own terms.   What she doesn’t know is that the wily Malloryn already has someone in mind…

Sir Gideon Scott has been a true friend to Alexandra throughout the worst years and is a trusted advisor and sounding board. Alexandra is strongly attracted to him and he to her, but he’s a commoner as well as being another human –and Alexandra is sure that the council will oppose her taking a human – and the leader of the Humanist movement, no less – as her husband.

Before Alexandra can take any husband, however, it becomes clear that an assassin has her in their sights, and with the court full of visiting princes and dignitaries from around the world, it falls to Malloryn, Sir Gideon and the CoR to ensure the Queen’s safety and who wants her dead.

The shorter page count means an overall paring down in terms of both plot and romance here. There are still some vivid action scenes and the stakes are still high, but the romance isn’t quite as convincing as in the other books. Sir Gideon is a terrific hero; handsome, intelligent and loyal, and Alexandra is a nice mix of confident and vulnerable. I liked them together and Gideon is just what Alexandra needs but I didn’t feel that deep connection between them that exists between the other couples in the series. They have chemistry for sure, and although I didn’t at first much like Alexandra’s solution to overcoming her fear of physical intimacy, I did like the way Gideon was so careful and respectful of her wishes, and how he wouldn’t let her push herself too far.
The villain of the piece is fairly obvious (despite the presence of the Red Herring designed to throw is off the scent!), but the mystery storyline is entertaining, and affords opportunities for some of the Rogues to become involved in the hunt for the would be assassin.

And speaking of the Rogues, I loved seeing them all again - their wonderful dynamic and camaraderie hasn’t changed – and I especially enjoyed getting to see Malloryn and Adele happily snarking at each other (and seeing just how well Adele knows her husband). Malloryn is the same hard-arse he always was but he lets his softer side out a bit more, and I really appreciated the fact that he actually listens to Adele and Gemma when they tell him that he hasn’t always dealt with Alexandra as kindly or as well as he could have done – and then that he has the balls to admit his mistakes and apologise for them.

From London, With Love may not be a personal favourite, but it’s a fun read, with a little bit of everything that has made this series so addictive. The best part of all may have been the very end, when it started to look as though Ms. McMaster was setting up a new series… which she confirms in her author’s note. The action will shift to the Russian Blood Court and the Scandinavian Wervulfen in her forthcoming London Steampunk: Blood Court series; the bad news is that we’ll have to wait a year or two, but I’ll definitely be here read to gobble it up whenever it appears!

Lovely, but way too short!

I'm happy that the poor Alexa has had her HEA!

And it was lovely to meet again all the others!

But I wanted a full novel full of political machinations and conspiracy and we have very little of that here... I could guess who was the mastermind since the beginning! It was too easy!

Still I enjoyed Malloryn's change into a more "human" and less spymaster form! Thumbs up for Adele! LOL

3 great things that came out of this book:
• Alexandra got the ending that she deserved
• We got to visit many of the old characters again.
• Official announcement on the NEW SERIES YESSSSS.

I was always so sad about what happened with Alexandra. I loved how she came into her own as the ruling queen. Thus, I was glad to see her get her happy ending here with Sir Gideon Scott, who was sweet and patient and exactly who she needed.

I loved seeing the Company of Rogues and their never-ending bantering again. Their camaraderie, affection, and humor with one another were always fun to read. However, for an epilogue novella, I would have loved to visit everyone and see how they were doing – including those from the original series. We got to see a few of them for a second in the beginning, but it was not really an update on how they were doing. Instead, we were primarily focused on Malloryn and Adele. Don’t get me wrong, I adored them and loved all their scenes. Their scenes were some of the absolute favorites. I just wanted this epilogue novella to give at least a chapter to each Company of Rogues and original series’ character, so it would be a more fulfilling epilogue novella. (With that being said, I understood that novellas were meant to be short, so maybe there was not enough room/time).

NEW SERIES. I was 100000% ecstatic to read that there would be more London Steampunk books! Especially after To Catch A Rogue, I was dying to know more about the Russian court (in particular, Nikolai).

It is official – it is my most look-forward to series at the moment. 2022 is still a while, but I don’t mind too much because I am excited to explore her other series meanwhile before we dive into London Steampunk: Blood Court.

Some of my favorite scenes from this book WARNING: Spoilers below):

This is a bittersweet epilogue to this series that will definitely please the fans. Queen Alexandra is finally free of her brutish husband but doesn't have a suitable heir . Step forward her spy master Malloryn with a cunning plan to rectify that matter and what could possibly go wrong ?
Assassination attempts, numerous manipulative suitors and even a bit of classic steam punk pulls this story along. It was lovely to finally really get inside the head of Alexandra as she is a character who has suffered greatly and yet is made of steal. I loved her fascination with Sir Gideon who whilst not the youngest hero this author has given us he certainly has such strong feelings for his Queen. Alexandra has bad memories to overcome and just perhaps Gideon is the man she can most trust to help her. It's just too bad he's human because it's clear the country needs a consort who is a blue blood or do they ?

This is a great little HEA epilogue rounding out the London Steampunk: Blueblood Conspiracy series. Queen Alexandra finally gets her HEA with Sir Gideon, leader of the humanist movement.

That's right, her spymaster, the Duke of Malloryn, has finally decided that the country needs an heir. At the same time, he's feeling like a matchmaking mama ever since he found his own one true love, so he's decided that she should have the man (everyone knows) she loves.

With cameos from almost all of the previous couples, lots of vampire politics, and (of course!) a long-awaited romance, this is the perfect little cherry on top of the sundae of the series. (That said, if you wanted to give us a little story featuring Nikolai, Bec McMaster, we would be THRILLED!)

7-Word Summaries:

Laine: Sex therapy with your one true love.

Meg: International alliance? Gross. Go for true love.

CW: Miscarriage, stillbirth, DV survivor, recovering addiction, blood, gore, etc.

From London, With Love is a wonderful epilogue novella from Ms. McMaster to fans of the London Steampunk series. Although the story is shared from the POVs of several well-known characters, the tale centers on the human queen of Britain as she tries to heal and stabilize the country now that presumably all the bad guys are defeated. So who is trying to assassinate the queen?

It's time for the queen to remarry and produce an heir to help keep the country stable. Of course Malloryn is pulling strings and playing puppet master as always. Many foreign delegates are in town, all hoping to align themselves with England via a marriage to the queen, giving several potential suspects for the Company of Rogues to investigate.

I loved getting to know the queen - I don't know that I ever realized her name, or if we knew it. She's well on the road to recovery from the mental and physical abuse of the previous prince consort. She doesn't want to marry and has already given her heart to Sir Gideon, a human. Theirs is a sweet romance; he the perfect, patient partner who helps her overcome the last of her lingering fears. The mystery of who is trying to take down the queen is exciting and brings together the Rogues. The author also hints at a spinoff series to come.

All in all, From London, With Love is a wonderful bow placed atop one of my favorite series. It caps off years of chaos, giving closure but also sharing details of what may come next for the Company of Rogues.

My Rating: B+

One for the fans! What a great goodbye to this arc of the London Steampunk series. Sweet, romantic and oh so satisfying.

And I'm glad to add that Bec is writing a new series highlighting the Verwulfen and Russian Courts so we'll catch up with our favourite characters again and no doubt fall in love with some new ones. 2022!

From London, With Love
4 Stars

The novella focuses on the human Queen, Alexandra, as she copes with the aftermath of her despicable Blueblood husband's ruthless rule and abhorrent treatment of her. Convinced by the council that she must marry and produce an heir, Alexandra plays host to visiting diplomats and local aristocrats all vying for her hand. Unfortunately, someone has decided to take the opportunity to remove Alexandra from the throne permanently.

An entertaining epilogue to the series that ties up all the loose ends. All of the couples from the previous books put in an appearance and their bickering and banter are delightful.

The romance between Queen Alexandra and her loyal advisor, Sir Gideon Scott, is sweet. They have strong chemistry and their interactions are engaging.

The assassination plot is cleverly interwoven into the narrative although it is obvious from the start who is behind it all.

This is the final book in this particular arc, but Bec McMaster has hinted at more to come and there are definitely characters and potential storylines available for continuing. The possibility of a revolution amongst the Blood Court is particularly intriguing as well as the upcoming treaty talks between the Russian Bluebloods and the Scandinavian Verwulfen. Hopefully, it will materialize.

Fantastic wrap-up to a fabulous series! Malloryn as a matchmaker was hilarious, but no worries. This isn’t a sugary sweet epilogue. There’s plenty of feels, along with action, secrets, yes! romance, and cameos from our favorite group of spies!

After teasing her readers for many months, finally McMaster release From London, With Love. A conclusion for London Steampunk: Blueblood Conspiracies and also a HEA for Queen Alexandra and her love, Sir Gideon Scott. Talk about time, hahaha.

This novella is a gift for London Steampunk readers, that's why McMaster give it as a freebies for newsletter subscribers. But if you don't read her London Steampunk series yet, I suggest please do. Start with Kiss of Steel, because McMaster is one of underrated steampunk romance writer out there. And although steampunk is what make her recognized as a writer, she write a good fantasy romance too!

I do like the way McMaster handle Alexandra's traumas and how Gideon treat Alexandra. It's not easy to be Alexandra. Lost her child, her freedom when she was married to the Prince Consort also to keep her sanity intact. McMaster write it well and although , the way McMaster write the sexual tension is good. Too good perhaps, since I keep yelling "OMG, just kissing already!" or "OMG, just have sex already!". Haha. The angsty also written well. I can feel the Gideon's anguish and how Alexandra try to overcome her traumas without its feel forced. Also thanks God, no more deus ex machinae plot.

Another precious tidbits is when finally Malloryn realizes his error way when its comes to Alexandra, and the people who point him of his errors are both women. That's why woman is always right *chuckle, but, to be exact, that's what make I appreciate Malloryn, because he listen to both his wife and Gemma. Admit his mistakes, not rebuffed them, and then apologize when necessary. I always think that Mallory is kinda like a big brother to Alexandra and its make me smile to read their back and forth banter. And Malloryn as a fairy godmother, lololol. Seems like that roles suit his better rather than his Machiavelli persona.

Not only conclude Alexandra's HEA, but this novella also give reader glimpse into what McMaster have for her London Steampunk next arc. Sadly, we will wait until some years, because she want to finish her other series. Either way, I can't hardly wait! :)

McMaster finally gives the Queen Alexandra her happy ending!! Alexandra has suffered so much on the hand of her evil consort. She also lost her son years ago. Understandable that she has trauma when dealing with physical relationship. Sir Gideon Scott is her friend and unbeknownst to Alexandra, has been loving the queen forever.

What a lovely epilogue this is. I love how McMaster writes Alexandra's trauma -- and how Gideon, oh WONDERFUL WONDERFUL Gideon, helps Alexandra deals with it. I can't think of anyone else more perfect for the Queen.

This novella also provides updates with other members of The Company of Rogues, most notably Auvry Cavill, the Duke of Malloryn. Apparently marriage suits him, because Malloryn is now happily matchmaking people, becoming fairy godmother to others, ALTHOUGH he still does it in his secretive manipulative way *laugh*.

McMaster hinted that this is the end of *London* steampunk BUT we will still have more stories from the same universe, though probably set in a different country. Well, as long as some of the London characters still appear as cameos that will be awesome...

Basic plot: Queen Alexa has to secure her throne by marrying and producing an heir, while dealing with assassination attempts and PTSD from her first husband.

After reading the whole London Steampunk series, the only loose end left to fully tie up was the queen, and I'm glad she got to get her own happily ever after. It was a short, sweet story that dealt well with the queen's inner thoughts and issues that remained after her trauma.

4.5 Stars... We finally see inside the mind of the Queen... Hearing Alexandra's voice and understanding her emotional/mental state was eye opening for me... We are gifted with insight into her vulnerabilities and wants and desires... For the first time, her royal shell is cracked and IT IS BEAUTIFUL; enter in Sir Gideon and the sexiness runs rampant... WOWZA!!!... Great chemistry, friendship, sensuality, and romance... We also get continued interaction with the Company of Rogues which is always entertaining... For me, this read wrapped up all the loose ends of the series; we are also given a glimpse into another spin-off where we can continue enjoying these characters while being introduced to more goodness in the Blue Blood world... I AM THERE PEOPLE... Loved every word of this novella:)

Excellent

My only complaint is that it felt too short!! I loved watching these characters grow and change and be delightfully ornery stubborn and chaotic. I really enjoyed seeing the Queen and Gideon finally getting their happily ever after. And I'm exceptionally glad to see this story talking about lost little ones. It's a topic most books gloss over or ignore... Thank you. For all the ones we didn't get to meet here. Oh. And yes, this was definitely an adult content story.

In this novella that was free for newsletter subscribers, Bec is just so amazing to her fans!. we read how, finally, Queen Alexandra gets a HEA. She's such a strong woman who has been through so much and I'm ecstatic that she finally got a happy ending.
This was a love letter to her fans from Ms McMaster, and she wrote a few scenes from the POV of each couple, besides the Queen getting her love story. And we got a hint of what will come next, hopefully sooner rather then later :)

Loved, loved, loved the story but I found the romance really lacking.

Loved the story over all but the “romance” was severely lacking.
Four stars feels right to me and yet,I’m kinda torn.
Overall, I feel like this was a good story ,and it added something good to the overall series. It also left me really wishing that even with no more couples to pair up that the series was going to continue.
I know that’s not how series like this work but I really wish fir once it would do just that.
Let us got with our gang I’d lovable rogues and watch their adventures continue . Let us watch them go off to safeguard this treaty. Protect ppl they care about , while they reconnect estranged family members and Malloryn goes on this thing called a “vacation “ ( something we NEVER thought we’d see him voluntarily do. I mean seriously. Malloryn on vacation? Plus a happily married wife (his) AND with a baby on the way ?
That’s pure madness 😜
Not something at the beginning of this ride we EVER thought we’d see. I’d like ,well, “More please Miss.”
I want to see these ppl I’ve grown so found of, live and laugh and continue to live some more before I have to let them go.
I doubt seriously my wish will ever be granted ,but a girl can dream.
Not back to this story. Good/decent plot and so much fun getting the gang back together and getting their pov’s and more spies, danger and intrigue .
But
I needed MORE.
As usual the “romance” in the story is important per se, but doesn’t always feel vital to the plot or the story. Ms.McMasters “romances” are weaved thru the story and while vital and important to its development they can feel like they were there to serve the plot and where it’s going not the other way around. In some romances the couple can be/are the main point of the story and the plot seems to weave around them and it’s there in a large part to bring them together and give them a narrative as they come together. But others the “romance” can feel more like an element of the story ,important but the figurative couple revolves around the plot and NOT the other way around.
In this story, the latter was definitely the case. And while I enjoyed the story ,the romance element was barely starting to get off the ground when the story was coming to and end and it was suddenly over.
The queen was badly abused and traumatized in the past. So much so she can barely kiss or touch/or heavy pet the man she loves before shes overwhelmed by her past trauma and is running away. I get she had to move slowly but the it starts out so slowly and cautiously and then just as she’s making progress the story ends and every thing is so hastily wrapped up ,it made me wish it had all just been skipped. We go from her still being unable to really let her guard and control down and feel comfortable being intimate with the man she loves and adores, to getting him to agree to marry her and then the last few words telling us they had a baby .
It felt forced and rushed faked.
Like towards the end maybe she was just tired of dealing with she queen and wanted it over with.
Loved it all ! Except for the strained, awkward, underdeveloped, rushed supposed romance between the queen and her knight.
Like Gideon I kept hoping we get past the queens defenses and see the woman within. A kind and possibly sweet woman who wanted to love and be loved in return. Sadly, the story ended before we got there. Good ,but in my humble opinion it missed the mark.

From London, With Love is an adorable Epilogue novella in Bec McMaster’s thrilling London Steampunk: The Blue Blood Conspiracy series and is without a doubt a must read for fans such as myself who are absolutely in love with this steampunk world.

After decades of unrest, London is at peace. The only threat to the stability of the monarchy is that the Queen does not have an heir. After her abusive and violent marriage, Alexandra has sworn never to marry again but the Duke of Malloryn has other plans for his friend and regent, hoping to spur her to act on her feelings for someone already close to her heart. Malloryn’s insistence upon an heir sees Alexandra agree to pick a husband. As eligible bachelors from across Europe journey to London in an effort to win her hand, Alexandra finds her heart yearning for the only man who has never betrayed her….the one man she can never have. Sir Gideon Scott is the leader of the Human Rights Political Party and has been a staunch supporter of Alexandra for years. As a dear friend and trusted confidant, he is the only person Alexandra can imagine spending her life with; if only choosing a human consort wouldn’t destroy the fragile support she has from the Blue Blood elites. As Alexandra experiences true desire for the time in her life, will she take a chance to be happy? Or will her fears stand in her way.

Bec McMaster constantly bewitches me with this series and her beguiling London Steampunk world. I’m endlessly charmed by the characters and the storylines and found From London, With Love to be a delightful addition to the London Steampunk: The Blue Blood Conspiracy series. Alexandra and Gideon’s relationship was always one that intrigued me towards the end of the series so I was thrilled to learn McMaster had written a novella set after the events of the final novel that addressed their romance.

A short but sweet story---if I’m honest I could have kept reading forever---From London, With Love was a lovely glimpse into the mind and heart of Queen Alexandra. It was wonderful seeing her find her own happiness and I adored that Bec McMaster included so many characters I loved from the previous books; Malloryn, Adele, Mina and all the Company of Rogue members. It was so nice to see how their lives are going and the wonderful things they are experiencing.

From London, With Love is perfectly written as always and packs a lot into its short length. Reminding me again why I love Bec McMaster’s novels, this novella leaves me ready and waiting for the day that McMaster releases the next chapter in her world, London Steampunk: Blood Court and draws readers into the world of Russian Blue Bloods. Highly recommend this series to readers who love well told steampunk with sizzling romance, humour and wonderful bonds of friendship and family.

Review originally posted on Overflowing Shelf

I’m not a big novella person, but when I saw there was a final novella in the London Steampunk: The Blue Blood Conspiracy theory, I knew I had to read it. I really just wanted to spend more time with these characters.

The novella is a really fun, quick read that gives Alexandra, the Queen of England, the love story and ending she deserved. Alexandra has gone through so much over the course of the two series and it was so nice to have her get her own happily ever after.

Even for a novella, Bec McMaster has to bring in some drama and plots. Not only is Alexandra trying to find a new husband thanks to Malloryn’s suggestions that it will sure up the line of succession, the Rogues are fending off an assassin attempt against her from an unknown assailant. I loved seeing all the Rogues again in this as they work to uncover who the bad guy was. I will say, I did predict the bad person early on, but I still really liked the self-contained plot in this novel.

I was also so thrilled we got to see the romance develop between Alexandra and Sir Gideon. I definitely feel like we had gotten hints of a spark between them in some of the later books in the London Steampunk: The Blue Blood Conspiracy series and I loved how this book filled in some of their history. It was so funny to me that everyone but them could see the match Malloryn was angling to make with his marriage scheme. While this was short, I feel like because we knew these characters and they had chemistry, the romance worked well and didn’t feel rushed. I love how Alexandra just wanted someone to see her for who she is as a person and Gideon was the perfect match for her.

Overall, this was a fun little novel that gives a little peek into the lives of the Rogues after things return to relative normal. I feel likeI’m literally obsessed with this series and the world that McMaster created, so getting to spend a little extra time in it was perfect. If you love this series, you’ll likely want to give this novella a quick read through as it’s such a nice epilogue to the series.

Well, well, well...
In the world of vampires, werewolves and mechanical beings that roamed London, what will you do to survive?

This is the final book for the spin off series London Steampunk: The Blue Blood Conspiracy. I cannot say that I am sad to leave this world but the GREAT NEWS is that it will be coming in 2022; #vampiresarecoming! Now, this is a novella and it was shorter than a novel that the author would usually write. But always with HEA. This novella was focusing on the Queen's HEA and we were thrown into the new exciting spin off that will launch in Sept. 2022. And you know I cannot wait for that!

My thoughts on this book:
📌Everyone got their HEAs with the promise of new generation being born and established but before we can go to that part yet, we will be taking a detour up north to the Scandinavian countries. After rereading the entire series, there are a lot of loopholes that will give more spin off for the series and who am I to complain🤣
📌We got a glimpse of what happened in the Queen's life. For this instance, she was experiencing a traumatic past of being touched by her deceased prince consort and she had experience a lost of the baby. In the Afterword, we were told that the author was experiencing the same thing as the queen and I just wanted to say that the readers are honored to know what was going on in her life. Then, we're seeing the shift and the effort that the queen was doing to overcome her traumatic past with her new choice of husband. On other hand, we have been delivered the news of babies that were being conceived by the Company of Rogues and I am happy for them, especially Malloryn and Adele, my fave couple from this series.
📌The spiciness is nonexistence but the kissing scenes...well that was another story. I would rate 🌶/5 for them so it was not a little saucy than her other works.
📌My personal rating would be ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 because we got more plot and storylines that will be coming for us in future. I am not mad about it just cannot wait for it. Therefore, I can honestly think that I am personally ready to be staying in the dark and wait for Sept 2022 to come. Good grief🤣

The London Steampunk: Blueblood Conspiracy series has ended but I think there was an overwhelming desire from fans for Queen Alexandra's story. So Bec McMaster decided to write a novella epilogue, From London, With Love, to tie up loose ends and give the Queen her HEA.

Convinced by the council that she must marry and produce an heir, Alexandra plays host to visiting diplomats and local aristocrats all vying for her hand. Not only is Alexandra trying to find a new husband thanks to Malloryn’s suggestion that it will shore up the line of succession, the Rogues are fending off an assassin attempt against her from an unknown assailant.

With cameos from almost all of the previous couples, lots of vampire politics, and a long-awaited romance, this is the perfect ending to a fantastic series.

I was about to call this a slightly unnecessary epilogue to the London Steampunk series, but then I realized most, if not all, epilogues are unnecessary. It was enjoyable to pfash around in this world one last time, as I was slightly bereft after I closed the page on the final volume last week. This novella concerns Queen Alexandra, and it's nice to see her get some happiness given the shit she's been through: When we met her in the very first London Steampunk novel, Kiss of Steel, she was using laudanum to escape from her husband's abuse. Until the Prince Consort was overthrown, she was a pretty tragic figure. The romance here was a little rushed, but I did appreciate the sensitivity to her post traumatic reactions.
