A desperate widow in need of a helping hand… even a cybernetic one.
Hattie came to Mars with high hopes. Hopes that she and her husband would be able to claim a plot of land, to create a home, perhaps even to start a family - all of the things that were now impossible on a troubled Earth. Instead, she’s lost everything, everything except the land, and in order to keep her homestead she needs help.
When help arrives in the form of a tall, gruff cyborg ranger, she is torn between her loyalty to the past and the promise of a new future. But when danger threatens, is she going to lose even that?
M-231 can barely remember the time before - before he became a cyborg, before he shut off his emotions, before he became both more and less than human. Until a stubborn, beautiful female - one who is no longer off limits - makes him remember what it is to feel.
Can Hattie and her cyborg overcome harsh conditions, troubled pasts, and a mysterious enemy to create a new future together?
Each book in the Cyborgs on Mars series can be read as a standalone romance. This sweet and steamy romance is intended for mature readers.
Yessss, I am so into this series! I love the premise and the possibilities of where the plots could go, and this one had better character development. Very excited to continue
Hattie came to Mars with hopes of starting a new life, one better than the life she left on earth, but when her husband dies it appears she may lose her new home, unless she can find a partner to work on the homestead with her. M-231, also known as Morgan, is a cyborg - transformed unwillingly by the Government, he found himself entranced by Hattie the very first time he caught a glimpse of her, when he realised she was married he comforted himself with glances from afar and keeping an eye on her to ensure she was safe. When he finds out she needs a partner to keep her land he offers to help, which is good since someone really wants the land Hattie has.
The relationship between Hattie and Morgan happens at warp speed, to the extent that it had me blinking a little in surprise -layering and development would have been nice. The plot is light but honestly in this instance that was ok, overall this made for a enjoyable quick read, and has me interested in reading more by the author and more from the series.
Damsel in distress gets the "Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman" treatment. Boi did I enjoy that show it had a town building itself up. Just like in this book. There were a diverse partially inclusive community. There was the first nation land grab. But the people lived not that far from the town.
Great show until the Bible thumping started. Jane Simore went on to produce that story about Jesus. That had President Obama as the devil. Interesting times. Didn't watch this one. Seen one religious movie. You've seen them all.
When my buddy reading bestie Steph picked this , I totally laughed at her choice. But because I love her, I agreed and was more than a bit surprised that I enjoyed this as much as I did. It's the wild west set on Mars with nanotechnology and somehow it freaking worked. I adored our cyborg hero Morgan and our widowed human Hattie. They were awkward together at first, but it was adorable. There are plenty of sex scenes for them, though I'll be honest I probably would have enjoyed it just as much without it because there were a few times it made me cringe lol "He still found it almost impossible to believe, With her help he had finally accepted that he was both man and machine and neither part was better or worse than the other - and she loved all of him."
Another 3½⭐︎ rounded up installment to this series for me.
These continue to be novel and fun, now with light shone on a larger plot unfolding in the background. What is GenCon up to? And how are they planning to accomplish it so quickly? I'm sure we'll find out in the coming books, but for now we'll have to let our imaginations run wild. The Good, The Bad, and the Cyborg is another consistent offering from Ms. Phillips and everything you would expect from her writing: short and light, nothing too dark or controversial, safe romance, lots of OTT instant sweetness, and fun to read scenes.
An easy to read, quick-paced addiction, Hattie and Morgan were certainly worth losing some sleep over. What seems to start off as a partnership of convenience soon turns into more, and the story is beautiful. Hattie needs Morgan but he needs her just as much. The story grows steadily, beginning with a fantastic story about settling on Mars that morphs into an intriguing mystery that runs the same race with the developing love story. I read this in one sitting, it was hard to put down once I started it! I hope there will be more coming in this storyline. Maybe Cherry and the Judge? Who knows? On top of that, I'm dying to know what's going to come of Hattie and Morgan's new neighbors!
Every one of Honey's books that I have read has been great and this one is no exception. I loved the tough, strong, enduring Hattie and then protective and passionate Morgan. They were able to heal their past wounds and move forward together, overcoming Mars' harsh landscape and sneaky Gencom. I can't wait for the next one to see what unfolds
Series: Cyborgs on Mars #1 Rating: 3 stars - I liked it
Hattie came to Mars with the hope of starting a new life. Instead, everything seems to be falling apart and she might lose her home too if she can’t find someone else to help her. M-231, also known as Morgan, has been entranced with Hattie since she arrived on Mars but has never made a move or talked to her. When he finds out she needs a partner to keep her land he offers to help. Together these two must overcome their pasts, the environment, and a dangerous enemy.
This was a nice quick read. I am really enjoying the concept of this new settlement on Mars with its mixture of western and scifi. Hattie was a smart and resourceful woman and I really liked her. She built and slaved over her land and it shows. Morgan was closed off at first but quickly opened up when he realized Hattie truly cared. She didn’t care that he was a cyborg and saw him only as a man. They had an instant love relationship but I still enjoyed it.
This was just a very interesting world that Phillips has created and I am really enjoying it. I am very curious to see what GenCon is actually doing because clearly it's something big. Also I can’t wait to learn more about the other cyborgs, especially the grumpy Judge.
I have SUCH a soft spot for cyborgs who are supposed to be emotionless machines but who really have ALL THE FEELS for something. You know, like Morgan has for Hattie. He might not think he should have/could have emotions for this woman, but he very much does and I am 100% here for that.
As for Hattie, when an opportunity to escape her situation back on Earth presented itself, she took it even though it meant marriage to a man she only cared for as a friend. His death doesn't come as a huge shock, but it puts her in yet another sticky situation and she quickly agrees to Morgan's idea of teaming up so she can keep her land and homestead. The fact she does have some more-than-friends feelings for the big cyborg doesn't make it that much of a hardship, really.
A little intrigue and danger, some steamy looks that help warm both Morgan and Hattie on cold nights, and the potential for more than they expected on Mars makes me happy. GOOD STUFF!
This was a quick, easy read and the first book of a new series. Hattie and her husband have one of the best claims on Mars. Primarily because her husband comes from a wealthy family and works for the company that wants to expand it's Mars holdings. Soon after Hattie becomes a widow she's encouraged to sell her claim, then officials try to steal her claim for not having a partner. Cyborg M-231 a.k.a. Morgan has been attracted to Hattie since he first saw her. He volunteers to be her partner and help work her claim. Hattie and Morgan made a good couple. There's hot sex and mystery. I think the book could have done with less sex and more follow through on the mystery, which wasn't concluded to my satisfaction. Morgan had his own issues and for such a short book he spent more time than necessary going through the 'I'm not worthy routine'. A portion of the book was one sex scene rolling into the next and I tend to lose interest with that so I just skimmed quickly over the extraneous sex scenes. I'll certainly read the next book in the series and hope the hanging questions about the nefarious plans of the evil company will be answered. IMO, if you enjoy cyborg sci-fi this is a series worth looking at.
The Good, the Bad, and the Cyborg features Hattie, human and Morgan, cyborg. In this futuristic society, they are starting to terraform Mars, and need homesteaders to start developing the land. Hattie agrees to a marriage of convenience in order to get to Mars, where her husband immediately dies. She needs help and Morgan is very happy to do anything Hattie might need.
I found this really delightful. Very old western book, but on Mars with cyborgs. Hattie was lovely, and every inch a hard working and enterprising woman, trying to make it on the homestead. Morgan was appropriately grumpy, with his dislike of his cyborg parts. I really liked how much he disliked every cyborg part of himself and meanwhile Hattie was just all heart eyes for a tall gentleman.
I am aware that this isn’t technically an alien romance, but you best believe I’m going to throw it into my alien romance folder. They’re on Mars after all.
This is about Hattie who, after the death of her mother, is not able to find a place to life on the way to crowded earth. Luckily she gets the chance to go to mars and start a new live there. When things get hard for her on mars as well, the one helping her is the cyborg she always had an eye on.
This was a great book. I absolutely loved the story. It was cute and thrilling and there was so much nice steam in this. These two characters had great chemistry and I love how they were together.
Besides that I really liked the world on mars the author created. I am kind unsatisfied with the ending, though I do get the reasons but still. I am long forward to see if this will be the overall story of the books and therefore get more info in the next few books.
I am definitely looking forward to read the next book.
Okay I really enjoyed Clint and Jo's story and you made me fall in love with cowboys all over again. I couldn't wait for Morgan's story and I have to say I'm not disappointed. You have managed to pull some of my favorite things together in one terrific romance, Love, passion, cyborgs cowboys and SyFy. I love all of it. Hattie is adopted and took care of her ailing mother for .any years until she died. But when she died she lost her front controlled housing. He goes offered her a marriage of convenience and an opportunity to move to the new settlement on Mars. She decides to take the offer they live on Mars for about 6months before her husband dies. Hattie is given an ultimatum she needs a partner of she has to give up her claim. Enter Morgan he noticed her from the minute she got off the transport and wanted her from the start. When he realized she was taken he watched and protected her from afar until the moment she really needed him. Together they become partners to save her claim and every hour they are together learn learn more about each other and passion ignites and soon that passion turns to the steady flame of love there is some action, mystery and we are introduced to the Judge and I can't wait to read his story. Over completely enjoyed it and I highly recommend that you read it 💖
*WARNING* story contains explicit sexual content This isn't what I expected when I read "on Mars", but I can't say I was disappointed either. Hattie is one of those "glass half full" type characters and that is usually annoying, but her character struggles, it makes her character more realistic. My curiosity is burning to hear what the story is on the Judge, but Morgan's story was just sad. I found the whole story interesting. The characters are great with completely different personalities. The story answered enough questions to close for Hattie and Morgan, but also left some unanswered. I am super curious about GenCon 🤔
I never knew I needed some hot cyborg rangers until finishing this book! It was my first read of February as well as a new-to-me author and it didn't disappoint! It was an exciting read, I really enjoyed the story building and I loved each of the characters. I normally cringe at the whole insta-love thing, but this one was really enjoyable and cute. I can't wait to see what else the author has planned for this series!
This series is only two books in--one prequel and the first book--but I can't wait for the next. It sounds like a wacky mix, kind of like putting spaghetti on your scrambled eggs, but the mix of cowboys and cyborgs is BAD ASS!! Who else would have the balls to police Mars in the beginning of the colonization.
The prequel does a solid job of laying the foundation of the world and its boundaries. It is full of sweetness and a real sense of beginning something new (oh, yeah, and hot sex!). The official first book throws in a mystery, a little success for the new settlers and a whole lotta steamy sex to boot! See what I did there? LOL, I really enjoyed these so much that I'm happy there is no shortage of cyborgs on Mars.
Following a series of bad luck and very few options...Hattie finds herself married ( to her boss) running a homestead on the recently terraformed Mars. The bad luck continues with the death of her husband and close to eviction from the land she has worked so hard for.
Queue the dashing cybernetically enhanced ranger..and hero...A long time admirer of Hattie from afar...and new partner in Hattie’s homestead share... thinking her luck is turning around... what follows is an enjoyable reveal of plots and schemes by the DAR stately GenCom company and smoking hot chemistry. A short by enjoyable read and introduction to this new series. I’m looking forward to future releases and meeting more of the Cuber rangers from Mars.
This is a lot of fun. The characters are a hoot and one gets the feeling of how difficult both homesteading and terraforming could be. Adding in cyborg cowboys just adds tons of fun!
I loved it. I recently discover this author and have liked everything I have read so far. This tells the story of Hattie, a down on her luck woman who can’t get a break. She loses her mother, her home and is offered the chance to go to Mars - she just has to marry her well to do boss. Life changed again for her and she is in need of a partner for her homestead. Morgan, who has been watching Hattie since she arrived, steps up to be plate. What follows next is two hearts that are desperate for each other but with their own pasts haunting them, struggle to believe they could be happy. Each character was well written and I loved the story. Can’t wait for the next one in this series!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
