I am not particularly strong on the lore of ‘Adepta Sororitas’ and haven’t read much from ‘Danie Ware’, who seems to write exclusively about them. So I wasn’t quite sure what I would get into before reading this one. What I got was a fun and action filled short story featuring some of the most fervently zealous followers of the Imperial doctrine.
This short takes place on Caro, the smallest moon of Planet Lena Beta, and features a tale of early life of Sister Augusta, the heroine featured in stories from Danie Ware. The mission is quite simple on the surface, as our heroes are supposed to watch a reconsecration ceremony of an old cathedral. But everything is not so simple when it comes to 40k universe as we get acquainted with a member of the supposedly killed off Xenos species that previously terrorized the moon.
What follows is a grueling battle where the Sisters are forced with this seemingly unstoppable threat with only bear minimum weapons to fight with while singing their unique battle hymns all through the exercise. The writer really painted the cathedral quite brilliantly through her prose, which is another dimension to the overall enjoyment.
I really liked what meager story there was on offer and would definitely check out more from the author in future. My only gripe is there should have been more info regarding the nature of the Xenos and the planet.

Young Sister Augusta and her squad are sent to the mining moon Caro to attend the reconsecration of an awe-inspiring cathedral, built as a memorial to a great victory for Sisters of their Order a thousand years earlier. What should be a simple, non-combat mission turns into a profound test of Augusta’s faith, as an unexpected evil reveals itself and the Sisters are forced into action. Whether you’ve read the other Augusta stories or not, this is an excellent example of how to blend bone-crunching 40k action with compelling questions of faith in the space of a single short story.

Good story, but seemed very truncated.

Decent story but the chronology was a bit wonky and I felt it needed prior reading (Despite reading this in Nexus and other stories, the intro to 40K book)
