I'm a wife and a mother to a beautiful 7 year old and active 4 year old . I love to cook, but as crazy busy as my life is, the slow cooker is my life-saver! My passion for developing recipes started at a young age when my grandma taught me and my cousins to cook. During my college years, I began to experiment on my own and as I entered the work force, my creativity really developed. My second cookbook, The Gluten-Free Slow Cooker will be released on Oct. 1, but it available for presale wherever books are sold now. My first cookbook, Slow Cooker Recipes 10 Ingredients or Less and Gluten-Free is available for sale online. In addition to writing cookbooks, I teach Elementary Music, I'm a Young Living Essential Oils Educator and a blogger. Am I crazy busy...or just crazy? Yes, but I love living my life the way I'm living it!
Now that I am not working that much, I wanted to learn how to use the Slow-Cooker for more than just my usual meals!
This book has 150 recipes for the slow cooker! I found about ten that I thought my husband and I would enjoy!
My favorite recipe was the Autumn Harvest Pork Loin! I have included the recipe below.
Prep. Time: 30 Minutes Cooking Time: 5–6 Hours
INGREDIENTS 1 cup cider or apple juice 1½–2-lb. pork loin salt pepper 2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced 1½ whole butternut squashes, peeled and cubed ½ cup brown sugar ¼ tsp. cinnamon ¼ tsp. dried thyme ¼ tsp. dried sage
Ideal Slow Cooker Size: 5-Quart
METHOD Heat cider in a hot skillet. Sear pork loin on all sides in cider. Sprinkle meat with salt and pepper on all sides. Place in the slow cooker, along with juices. Combine apples and squash. Sprinkle with sugar and herbs. Stir. Place around pork loin Cover. Cook on Low 5–6 hours. Remove pork from cooker. Let stand 10–15 minutes. Slice into ½-inch-thick slices. Serve topped with apples and squash.
Just FYI. Neither of us like squash so I didn’t include any!
I enjoy reading cookbooks, getting ideas from them and working my way through recipes in the book. I don't always go recipe by recipe through the book and tend to jump around working my way through it which was the case with this one. I did read through all the recipes, but I only made it through preparing 5 of them before I gave up on this one. I had such high hopes for it, I've been looking for recipes I can prep in advance and put into the crockpot in the morning so I can go about my day whether it be working in my office or working with my kids on their school work. Of the 5 recipes I tried, all of them I would never cook again. They were bland and lacked flavor if you follow just the recipe. I'm one of those people that loves flavor and hates bland food. Food is not just nourishment for me, it is an experience and food is love. I have a few more of this line of cookbooks and I will try some recipes out, I am just hoping they aren't as big of a let down as this one was.
Found quite a few recipes. Was looking for the simplest to prepare with the simplest ingredients, none where I have to wonder where to get it, or will only use it for the recipe and nothing else. Was looking for nothing with french names or ingredients I have to look up. This is my kind of recipe book.
