With the Curse of the Beast broken, Brielle Healer thought she’d left her bloody, gruesome past behind her. She thought she’d finally be able to have her happy ending with Raul, the gypsy who saved her life and she’s betrothed to. But when a new batch of dead bodies are discovered on her property, she doubts whether the curse was truly broken. Not to mention, Lord Kenrick’s brother, Daedric has shown up in town seeking information about his missing brother, who was last seen with Bri. He and other Knights of the Crowhurst Order want answers, answers that could very well endanger Bri’s life once more. But an encounter with Daedric has her wondering if perhaps Kenrick isn’t truly dead after all. That there might be a way to bring him back from wherever it is his spirit slipped into. However, as they delve deeper into research they discover an attempt to get Kenrick back will likely mean a trip through a hellish realm more powerful and dangerous than either can handle. But when tragedy strikes, Brielle knows she has nothing left to lose. And this might be her one chance to redeem herself for past failures and crimes.
Raul Tinker spent his whole life trying to outrun his past. But the darkness has finally caught up to him, in the form of his vengeful sister Yalena, who blames him for their family’s downfall amongst their gypsy clan. She wants to destroy everything he loves, starting with Brielle. Although trained in magic, he knows he’s no match for the evilness she’s dipped her fingers into. Yalena promises not to harm Brielle, if Raul agrees to do her bidding. Which means people will die and the world will be opened up to unimaginable horrors. Raul knows no matter what he chooses, he’ll lose a piece of himself. Because the only way to stop her would be to allow the same darkness that consumes Yalena to consume him as well… But he will do anything necessary to ensure Bri's safety. Anything.
I was born and raised in Michigan (just look for the giant mitten on the map—it’ll likely throw a snowball at you). I spent most of my time in Michigan, but while in the army got to call KS, SC, MO, and CA home for awhile as well.
As a kid my family moved around a lot. Try spending both your freshman and senior years at new schools (yeah, loads of fun). I could’ve changed my name to “new girl”.
I love writing for teens because those are the years I remember falling in love with most of my favorite books. Some of the authors I couldn’t put down were L.J. Smith, Christopher Pike, R.L. Stine, Richie Tankersley Cusick, Joan Lowery Nixon, Lois Duncan, amongst several others.
My husband and I have a large family. There are six kids total! So we have LOTS of fun on vacations (although hours on the road, cooped up in the Expedition is kind of stressful—although we pass the time with MAD LIBS and hoping no one gets carsick).
Some fun facts about me:
My first real crush was on Luke Skywalker (LOL—hey, I was like 8 years old and it came out before I was born).
I’m obsessed with several TV shows/Movies: The Vampire Diaries, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Sean of the Dead, The Sing Off, Ghost Hunters, Destination Truth, True Blood, Being Human, Fact or Fake, and all the cake designing ones! Oh and all the spoof movies!
I still own all the books I bought as a kid/teen.
I have a hankering for chocolate (like all the time, seriously. If my arm was made of it I’d chew it off).
Celebrity crushes: Johnny Depp (woohoo), Taylor Lautner (okay, I know he’s kind of young for me), Ian Somerhalder (ooh, he’s just right. We’re the same age). Wow, this was like a Goldie Locks and the Three Bears moment. Johnny Depp too old, Taylor Lautner too young, Ian Somerhalder—JUST RIGHT.
In my spare time I like to write (obviously), read, sing, hang out with my kids, play with my animals, camp, play soccer, check my email (hehehe), watch football (go LIONS). I also love hanging out with my sister and hubby!
Look forward to chatting with everyone! And if you’re lucky, I’ll break out the opera voice and chase you around singing!
Tragedy of me is the second book in the continuous series legend of me. In the first book we see Brielle brake her curse. She’s no longer terrorising the villages but that doesn’t mean her story is over yet.
At the end of book one we see Brielle and Raul finally looking ready for their happily ever after. Unfortunately there is still darkness in the world. Raul’s sister wants what she believes is hers, Brielle is hearing voices and death is till upon us.
Tragedy of me is set in the past in a fantasy world. Witches, magic and curses are ripe. Getting rid of the beast is just the start.
Brielle may not be hunted anymore but she is not free completely from Kenrick. Tragedy of me has some twists and turns. There is a No!! Screaming moment. Will Brielle ever find her true place?
This book will leave you waiting for the third instalment.
*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks to Month9Books for the opportunity to read and review Tragedy of Me by Rebekah L. Purdy! Brielle feels that she’s being tormented by lost souls and she’s warned that dark magic is surrounding her. She has lost her best friend, her home and the ghosts of her victims are haunting her. Raul tries to protect her but then he becomes the target of his sister’s greed for power and her strong dark magic. Yalena uses Raul to help her find a powerful book that will gain access to the Nether, where a powerful demon resides. Yalena wants this power for her own. She forces Raul into a blood curse so Yalena won’t harm Brielle but this curse causes much more harm to Brielle, Raul and many others that he never planned on. In the meantime, Kenrick’s brother Daedric, shows up looking for Kenrick. He discovers how he’s been pulled into the Nether and Brielle shares what she’s learned about how residing in the Nether warps souls and makes them dark. Brielle and Daedric vow to go to the Nether to save Kenrick. It’s a race to see who gets to the Nether first! The way the book ends, I believe the author has more story to tell. Rebekah L. Purdy, the author, has continued writing despite her very difficult time and her family’s tragedy. My heart goes out to her. 4 stars ⭐️.
Kept me hooked from page! Intriguing and I really enjoyed learning more about the world. Non-spoiler review, I recommend this series if you're into fast pace reads, strong lead, and intriguing plot. Bri's life is full of twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat. Looking forward to seeing more from this author!
The second book in any series tends to be seen as a connecting piece, and often wears this title well. Not so much here because book two is just as engaging, just as enraging, just as strong of a contender as the first one...just with a lot more times that I wanted to punch Raul in the face for his utter stupidity. He loves Bri SO MUCH, and yet his dumb male pride, his desire to stand up to the evil forces that are coming, has him making choices that he'd never thought he'd make, with consequences that will echo through BOTH their hearts.
This was was SUCH a TRAGEDY which of course means it fit it's title well, and yet I mean all of that in the BEST way possible! By book's end, I was SO surprised that while things play out that were meant to play out, there are SO MANY MORE THINGS that need to be resolved, and while we thought we said goodbye to a few characters, they may not be so much GONE as they are currently out of the picture. Does everything turn out sunshine and roses? Heck to the NO, but it doesn't mean all is truly lost. It doesn't mean that what was lost can not be found. It doesn't mean that a true beacon of light in the utter darkness is automatically forsaken; sometimes it just needs to see its true value, and appreciate its worth, in order to share its gracious beauty, and strength with all that seek its guidance.
