Wicked Villains #6

Queen Takes Rose

Rate this book
Once upon a time I made a deal with the devil. It turns out I like playing in the dark. Over the years, I’ve become someone I’m proud of, someone dangerous.

I’ll never be as dangerous as Malone, though. She’s one of the most feared leaders in Carver City, and her reputation is more than earned. Years ago, we had a single night together and she’s ignored me ever since.

Imagine my surprise to discover she’s scheduled me for the final two weeks of my contract. Maybe I should be afraid. Everyone else fears Malone. Instead, all I feel is anticipation. It’s time to balance the scales, once and for all.

The villains aren’t the only ones in Carver City a person should be wary of crossing.

Sometimes the prettiest flower hides the deadliest poison…

alexa, please play girls girls girls by FLETCHER

there is a lack in supply for great ff romance or smut in general. like damn, where my sapphic books hiding at?

Out of all the books of this series, this one's the best (for me, at least). What made me say that? Umm, one, Maleficent the most powerful Disney fairytale villain. Girl boss vibes, uh yes please!

Two, when Aurora looks like this—in my head 🤭? Ummm... (I lowkey be thirsty)

And, three: GIRLS. If that isn't reason enough, I don't know how to talk to you. don't even.

Okay, other than the fact that I'm objectifying and sexualizing these characters. I can't help it, I'm sorry 🤷

The chemistry was just flying off the charts and the small bursts of longing from both parties? the cuteness was spot the fuck on!!!

We all love the I'm here to kill you, but actually, I fucking love you trope. And oh my god! the boss bitch vibe of Mal is just... unmatched.

*spoiler* she literally demanded that Aurora eat her out while on a zoom meeting. Like, girrrrl! 😆

I know this book probably won't endear tons of people, I honestly had fun and I'm glad to add more names on my Sapphic Queens list.

this is a series of seven books (6 actual novels plus a collection of short stories and additional scenes) and I am not even gonna tell you how fast I read all of them… spoiler alert: incredibly fast ;) but who would know how much I needed in my life a dark, contemporary, erotica retellings of Disney villains getting their happy endings with lots of BDSM on the way… ;) not me, that’s for sure… honestly, I am shocked by how addictive this series is… and I am totally blaming it on the amazing writing style of Katee Robert :) I’m just gonna write one review for the whole series, cause in each one I would just repeat myself :) so here goes :) first of all, these books are hot as fuck… they are very well written, but make no mistakes, there is just enough plot to move things along and the majority of each story focuses on the (very sexy) romances… not only we have all sorts of sexual preferences and kinks included, I loved how it was just… there… no judgement whatsoever… consent is the one rule everyone abided by and when it comes to everything else, just do whatever works for you :) we also have a lot of different… let’s call them relationship dynamics, shall we? :) we have an FF couple and polyamorous relationships (both MMF and FFM) and it’s glorious :) my personal favourite is the third one (A worthy opponent) with the sixth one (Queen takes rose) a close second :) there are also gonna be (at least as off right now) two spin-off series, and you can bet your ass I already bought / pre-ordered all of those books :) if you want to find an amazingly well written escape from reality that will make you melt all over, look no further and pick this series up :)

XOXO

Genre: F/F Romance
Type: Standalone book 6 of 6 from Wicked Villains series
POV: First Person – Dual (Female)
Rating:

For years Aurora only had one thing she craved the most - to avenge her mother and for what she lost. When the opportunity came knocking, she thought it was time for her to end it once and for all. But Malone was not exactly what she thought would be and that could potentially derail her plans.

I’ve been looking forward to this one because I’ve been looking to read more F/F Romance. However, this one was not what I expected it to be. It felt tedious with unnecessary scenes especially the parts with Sabine Valley drama. I know the author is setting up her new series, but it didn’t add anything to this story.

At this rate, the entire two weeks won’t end in my revenge being enacted; they’ll end with Malone taking my future the same way she took my past.

I liked both Malone and Aurora with how they were not exactly who they portrayed themselves to be. But I didn’t feel a deeper connection for me to care enough for them. I was also hoping for more eroticism which was tame in this one.

One thing that I loved the most in this one was Hades. He didn’t have many scenes but he was a standout with how he cared for Aurora. He added heart to the story.

Queen Takes Rose is a tale of revenge and redemption. It is the final book in the Wicked Villains series.

Aurora was so much more interesting in the other stories. And for a character that was featured in all the previous books, always during group scenes at Underworld, turns out we got none of that in this book. It was just odd.

Katee Robert writes really interesting and well done male Doms but all her female Dommes are fucking weird. The Doms keep the whole D/s dynamic for the sex/scenes. The rest of the time, they act normal around their subs/gfs. But Malone (and Ursa) both being the only Dommes in the series, wanted their subs under their command 24/7. They wanted to decide what they eat, wear and even when they can speak. What kind of fucked up relationship is that and why is it only the Dominant women acting like this??

That bothered me great and made my rating drop…

wow. i didn't expect me liking a katee robert book but here we go. did i torture myself by getting to this book? yes. was it worth it? also yes.

lemme just say, katee robert drop the cheap and lazy menage plot you have going and stick to FF romances! honestly loved everything about this book. i'm still not a fan of KR's writing style but i decided to ignore it for the sake of this couple.

there aren't enough FF SMUT romances. i mean just smut. i don't want you're la la la plot. this was very very good. kinky and sweet and just good femdom rep.

This book fell flat. I mainly read it cuz I was looking for lesbian smut but the smut wasn’t great and the rest of the book was hard to get through due to an uneventful plot and prose that just felt elementary and uninteresting. I appreciate the diversity of characters as always though. Neon Gods was better and I barely liked that. Just not my style.

A great end to the series! Malone and Aurora have had some enmity between them all this time and I was so ready to learn more and see how they’d go from enemies to lovers. Except…this is one-sided enemies to lovers, as Malone doesn’t hate Aurora. She just doesn’t want to be distracted by her and thinks a two week assignation will give them a chance to work out their chemistry and then move on. LOL. Meanwhile, Aurora thinks this will be her big chance at revenge and decides she’s finally going to kill Malone.

I didn’t fully buy Aurora’s reason for revenge and I couldn’t understand how on earth she would not have known what her mother was really like all this time. And that’s after trying to buy into the idea that they would have kept her mother on life support for 20 years…that is very not normal and should not have happened. Aurora was also quite different in characterization here compared to previously in the series. She's not sunshiney at all here and Malone makes it sound like she wants the real Aurora and that the sunshine was just a facade but I'm not sure. People can be more than they appear, yes, but I didn't see the arc or growth to prove that was the case.

But aside from that, it was fun to watch Malone and Aurora go from being at each other’s throats to going at it. Malone is an impressive Domme and I loved seeing how she planned their scenes and gave Aurora what she needed. They’ll make a great team and I can see Aurora being a great asset for Malone as she gets a chance to see what else she can do, beyond being a Club submissive.

I also loved Malone’s cat Rogue. A real scene stealer with an attitude!

Note: Aurora’s representation as a POC is very underdeveloped. I’m not sure what her race or ethnicity is. She’s described as having light brown skin and toward the end of the book, we’re told her mother was Black. No details about her father. Robert takes pain to mention the race of everyone else in the book, which I appreciate. But it’s a misstep to not do the same with a main character. I also am not sure about the optics of Aurora’s mother, a Black woman, being such a bad territory leader and then having a white woman defeat her. That happens in the past and it wasn't racially motivated, so far as Malone says, but it still gave me pause because the territory leaders are predominantly white, if memory serves me.

Character notes: Aurora is a 30 year old polyamorous submissive with nipple piercings. She’s described as having light brown skin and toward the end of the book, we’re told her mother was Black. Aurora is into both men and woman but no specific sexuality identified that I noticed. Malone is a 41 year old white CEO, territory leader, Amazon, and Domme. She has a cat named Rogue. This is set in Carver City.

CW: death of mother, mother taken off of life support after 20 years in a coma, grief, gendered insult, alcohol, family planning discussion, past maternal abandonment (Aurora was raised by her grandmother)

Disclosure: I'm friendly with the author online.

SO.. I'm going to need more books where edging is used as a plot device? K? Thanks!

...

It’s no surprise that I am absolutely obsessed with the Wicked Villains series by Katee Robert! Y’all. These. Books. Are. Hot!! 🔥
If you aren’t familiar with this series.....WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? 😮 This series follows Disney villains getting their HEAs and it is everything! 👏🏻 Even though you can enjoy them without having read previous books. I would highly recommend reading this series in order!

𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐑𝐨𝐬𝐞 is the sixth and final book in the Wicked Villains Series. In this book, Aurora accepts a contract to be with Malone for two weeks. Little does Malone know that Aurora is seeking revenge!

The steam in this book was perfection!! That video assignment?

“This disinterest mixed up with lust and my desire for approval? I thrive off attention, and being deprived it is the most delicious of cuts.”

Overall, this was a fantastic conclusion and I can’t wait to read the companion series!

For nine years, Aurora has been a popular submissive at the Underground. After accepting a deal with Hades many years ago, her contract is about to expire, but she accepts a two-week assignation while still under his protection. During this time, Aurora will have to combat her longstanding feelings toward Malone who is known to be a cold and calculating territory leader in Carver City.

“She’s been wearing a mask since she started working at the Underworld, and I want to know what lies beneath it.”

When I first saw this series would have a FF romance, I was extremely excited. I always liked Aurora and her polyamorous proclivities. With Aurora heavily influenced by her past, it becomes a major element in the relationship with Malone. However, to my disappointment, the interactions between Aurora and Malone seemed flat even considering the buildup throughout other books in this series. Much was left to contemplation rather than action. Additionally, the events of Sabine Valley seemed to leak a bit too much into this book. That said, the strongest connection for me was between Hades and Aurora.

Queen Takes Rose is a romance about coming to terms with choices. It would appeal to those seeking a story with a Domme/submissive dynamic.

I finally finished the Wicked Villians series! I love the feeling of accomplishment you get after finishing a series!

This is the romance between Malone and Aurora, who are representations of Maleficent and Aurora from Sleeping Beauty. Aurora has made this deal with Malone where she stays with her for two weeks and does everything Malone tells her to do. Malone is just looking for two weeks of a good time and fun, but Aurora has a goal in mind for these two weeks. She plans to enact her revenge. She plans on killing Malone.

I really liked this romance! Unfortunately, this was not my favorite in the series. I just know that I love others in the series wayyyy more. And that is okay! You can't love every book in a series the same amount. I also think that this book just talked about Katee's Sabine Valley series a little too much for my liking. I think it took a little away from Malone and Aurora's romance page time.

TW: death of a loved one

TROPES: age gap, assassin turned lover, books with pets, characters with glasses, forbidden romance, great banter, lgbtq+ romance

I've enjoyed this series so much.Katee's books have become somewhat of a guilty pleasure to me, and the perfect allies during a reading slump.
Aurora and Malone were my most anticipated pair. After all, they were the first f/f relationship I've read from Katee.
We've practically known Aurora since the beginning, building up tension about what had happened between her and Malone. And we finally got to understand why! Their relationship developed quickly, which I did not mind, considering Malone was already pretty infatuated with Aurora. But their struggles did get repetitive towards the end.
In a sense, the book felt more like a transition between Wicked Villains and Sabine Valley, and I'm so happy about it! Amazons? Pagan traditions? Bring it on!

The last book in the Wicked Villains series is about Malone and Aurora. And it’s an improvement from the previous book.

The plot still is very thin, the focus is on the steamy and smutty stuff, but at least there’s a little bit we can work with.

The characters were both decent and likable, which was surprising but I enjoyed my time with them nonetheless. We met Aurora briefly in the predecessors and could witness her growth through more than one book, even though it’s most obvious in this one.

Over all this was a good finish to an okay series.

5 stars. Two five stars in one day! Praise the Book Gods! I honestly went into this with no expectations at all. I haven’t read the other five books in the series and I’m not really interested in them but since this is a sapphic Sleeping Beauty retelling with the romance between Malone (Maleficent) and Aurora I had to pick it up.

Baby, let me tell you the chemistry! The smut! 🔥Delicious. Chef’s kiss. Also, hi, hello where do I apply to become Malone’s sub? Please and thank you! That woman had me in an absolute chokehold. I completely understood why Aurora fell for her and was struggling against her plan of taking her down. Malone is a Domme and a bit of an Ice Queen. Be still my heart. Both women were very fascinating characters and I liked them a lot. Aurora is headstrong and determined and kind of a badass. She and Malone really worked well together. The plot was kinda thin but was enough to keep me engaged but this really thrived because of the characters, romance, and the hot as hell sex scenes. I had a freakin’ blast reading this and I couldn’t get enough.

Queen Takes Rose is the final installment in the Wicked Villains series, and I am so thrilled to have been able to finish this series (although I really need to read Sabine Valley soon--this book really teased that world for me) I will admit that this one took some courage to read, because even though this relationship has been teased throughout the whole series, I just wasn't sure if it was something I could do or I knew I needed to be in the right mood for this one. Revenge plots can work that way for me, and I wasn't sure how I felt about Malone to be honest. But I finally braved up and finally read this one and actually considering all the mixed reviews that come into play with this one, I was delighted to actually enjoy it as much as I did. Now its definitely not my favorite of the series, it still was a delightful addition to the series. Now these books aren't for the faint of heart, or if you specifically prefer monogomous relationships than this book or many of the others in the series are not going to be for you.

Queen Takes A Rose is a story that begins with one of our heroines, Aurora. She has two weeks left in her contract with Hades, but when Malone makes an offer for her for two weeks in her home, Aurora says yes to it. Malone and Aurora once had a scene together a long while back, but both of them have ignored each other since. But Aurora has another reason for agreeing to be with Malone for two weeks. Her mother was put in a vegetating state due to Malone's power grab of her mother's territory. Even though it was twenty years ago, she desires revenge against her Malone. But the more time they are together, the more that Aurora realizes she can't kill Malone. And it isn't until love enters the game, that Aurora has to reevaluate what she wants to do with Malone and if she is willing to let go of the past for a future with her.

She’s been wearing a mask since she started working at the Underworld, and I want to know what lies beneath it

I don't get a chance to read too much f/f romance, and quite frankly, its just not that common to find as one would hope, but these types of dynamics aren't always my thing. And to be honest, it really depends on who is writing these relationship dynamics. Katee Robert is queen when it comes to these type of relationships and I love how she really blends the kinky side of erotic romance with plenty of emotion and heart in the unsuspecting of times. I do wish that these books were longer than they are, its the only element I would truly change about them. But also I would have liked to have seen more heart and feels between these two. There were moments of it, but in comparison to some of the other books and how their relationship was teased, I was hoping for more.

Overall though I found Queen Takes Rose to be a delightful story that added the heights of sexual pleasure, safe exploration of the BDSM culture, an interracial romance that offers delights, heart and passion.

Would I Recommend?: not unless you are reading the whole series

I think I might have liked this more if it wasn't the last book in the series. By the time I got to this one I was just over it. Blah blah territories blah blah BDSM. The spice is good but this one is tied for my least favorite in the series. It is sapphic though so thats a perk but otherwise, meh.

four stars! *:・゚✧ ooooh i really enjoyed this! i didn’t have high hopes after the last one, but as i’ve said before, aurora has been one of my favorite characters throughout this series and i was really excited to finally get her story! and it was definitely very interesting. i was on the fence about malone, but she quickly grew on me and i really enjoyed her dynamic w aurora! admittedly i may have skipped over most of the conversations when it turned to talking about malone’s sister and everything surrounding that just bc it kind of took away from the plot/relationship, but other than that i had a really fun time reading this! <3

My god. This book choked me. It stepped on my throat. It murdered me and I loved EVERY second folks.

This was bought for me by a friend who knew I enjoyed a good spice read. Hell, I love a good kink read. However, with kink (especially sapphic kink) there’s often a heavy dose of strong TW’s like extreme SA scenes which are a lot of many of us to deal with. So I was SO DAMN GLAD to find this. This really doesn’t have many TW’s in play at all. There’s a great sense of aftercare too and safety throughout; something often missed.

All in all I absolutely adored this book. This is now my favourite kink book. I will cherish it✋🏻

Aside from the absolutely amazing spice and great rep for BDSM, you also have such awesome side characters.

For example Hades, who is so damn soft and sweet even as the ruler of you know, the underworld, that I was screaming.

I really hope the author does more WLW/sapphic content because this was so damn good.

After some careful observation I realize I can’t really give this book a review. I gave it a second whirl this year and I am still in shock. I honestly didn’t love it more the second time because I feel like these characters didn’t get as much Air time to be dangerously in love as the other villains. I waited for this book because how often do we get well written FF in the romance industry that isn’t just kinky madness?

I know take your time it will take a minute… the answer is never!! This story is just so taboo and it’s filled with cheating and deceit and honest to goodness shenanigans!! One day maybe I will be able to tell you how I feel but I’m just not sure when !! Happy reading everyone 😍🥰😘😍!!

So this had more of a plot than the others in the series which I really liked. It was leading up to the possibility of a really cool climax but that didn’t happen, things sort of simmered for a while but never came to a boil. The relationship was fine, there was nothing that was making we route for them but also nothing that made me not want them together. I am happy that we got away from the repetitive pattern of the last couple books in the series. This seems to be the end of the series as there were no new characters introduced for a future book but it did do a lot of setting up for future series in different cities. I’m intrigued to try those out as they might mix things up a bit more.

This the last book in this series but this isn't really a series that needs a big conclusion. There is also a short story collection that I'm going to read but that's super short and those stories didn't come out all at once or anything. This last book was fine and I liked that we got a FF romance finally but there wasn't really enough tension for me.

This is supposed to be a sort of enemies-to-lovers but I just found a lot of it to be kind of dull. There just was enough actual anger for me, or at least not enough for me to believe. I also just didn't really believe that they were falling in love. Something about the way this one developed just didn't appeal to me.

There's a lot of build-up about Aurora has barely any limits and is sort of a masochist but for all of that, there wasn't really any new stuff in the sex scenes. Because I've read six of these books now, I'm just expecting a bit more originality and because we didn't get that here, I was a bit bored.

I'm interested to read the short stories because I want to see what's going on with the characters I really liked from this series. Having read them all now I'll say that my favorite book was definitely Learn my Lesson with Hades, Meg, and Hercules. If you're going to read one of these books, I would recommend that one.

Soooo.... this one wasn't my favorite. And man, I hate saying that. Its still a Katee Robert, and its still better than most, but it didn't blow my mind the way past entries in the series. Maybe its just because this one has been being built up to for so long, or that I don't want the series to be over. I couldn't put my finger on it, but I just wasn't vibing with it.

I also think part of it for me was that I don't like Malone that much. I adore Aurora and I have loved her in every previous book and all of her scenes with other characters in the series, but not with Malone. I can't figure out if it is just that Malone is not my kind of Domme. I don't like her style of mastery the way I do with others in the series. I know Aurora is a brat and Malone is the perfect match for her, but not for me.

It is still a very sexy book, the scenes are creative and fun and it is still better than a lot of books you are ever going to read in this style.

I am very excited for the spin off series from the Wicked Villians. Sabine Valley is going to be bonkers and Amazing.

This book just took me way too long to read. I normally read a Katee Robert in like 3 hours flat. This one didn't have me diving back into it, and it took 2 full weeks.

I give this a 3.75 stars, rounded to 4.
