I'm done. I just can't anymore. I really loved Mack from the very beginning. I was eager to see her grow and mature both as a woman and an FBI agent. The storylines were engaging, the characters reasonably complex, the relationships growing...and then it stopped. MacKenzie just gets more reckless and self absorbed with each new book. Oh, she carries on a constant internal dialog about her growing ability to love and attach, but it's just talk. She still flings herself recklessly and needlessly into danger, nevermind how it will impact those who depend on her.

And the narrator. I simply cannot stomach another round of her self satisfied lilting British (?) accent. This isn't a romance novel about a sexy English girl. MacKenzie is a tough, self made FBI agent from Nebraska. Such a disappointment.

Before He Envies (A Mackenzie White Mystery—Book 12) -a review by Rosemary Kenny

How the years have flown by - new Mom (and FBI Special Agent), Mackenzie (Mac) White has the 'baby blues' and feels distracted from returning to work after giving birth. This changes her relationship with Ellington and her colleagues...will she return to work eventually, or does domestic 'bliss' beckon too strongly?
Leaving the baby with its father and going home to visit her Mom in Jackson Hole, in the Wyoming mountain area of Colorado, Mac's boss asks her to work on a case to test the water and help her to make a decision about the career that means so much to her.
Two climbers have been murdered in the same way, followed by a third, after Mac arrives in the town....are the deaths the work of a serial killer?
Has Mac's return triggered the third murder? Does she know the psychopath (or vice versa)?
Will Mac's vertigo/height phobia add greater danger to the confrontation on the mountain?

Taking the reader to the heights of awareness - and danger - Before He Envies never misses a step in the stunning Blake Pierce series Mackenzie White, of which this is Book 12. A melange of overcoming the odds, the realities of new motherhood/parenthood, overcoming personal and professional odds and much more. Why not start at the beginning of the series by thrilling to the whole series and filling your psychological thriller/murder-mystery bookshelves? Great stuff!

This one I haven't got a lot to say because again it is the same person. Mackenzie and Ellington but this time Ellington is at home on baby watch :) He's the dad so he's not babysitting but it's his turn to be the stay at home parent while Mackenzie is called out on a case.

The killer is targeting rock climbers and Mackenzie needs to find him/her before more climbers end up dead.

Again the book was really good. It didn't blow me away but it was really good. Every series is so good. There isn't anything bad or good to say at this point and so the book was a 3 star which I know is average. She really should get 4 stars but I need something that makes me say OMG this book is getting a 5 star. Yes she got the serial killer and yes she almost got killed but the twist in the book has to knock my socks off to get the 5 star rating.

I of course recommend everything this woman writes. She is amazing.

When two rock climbers turn up dead, each killed in the same disturbing way, FBI Special Agent Mackenzie White, mother of a newborn baby, must face her fear of heights as she is summoned to catch a serial killer before he strikes again.
Mackenzie, settling into motherhood, wants to take some time off. But it is not meant to be. Rock climbers are turning up dead in Colorado, hunted by an elusive serial killer, caught at their most prone moments. A disturbing pattern emerges, and Mackenzie soon realizes she is up against a monster.
And that the only way to catch him will be to enter his diabolical mind.
Feeling the effects of post partum and not ready to return to her job, Mackenzie finds herself ill prepared for the hunt of her life.

Mackenzie has had her baby but you will have to read the book to find out the gender. Motherhood is new to Mac and she is torn as to whether or not she wants to continue as an FBI field agent. She decides to take a short trip to visit her mother leaving the baby in Ellington's capable hands. While there her boss calls her for a case in Jackson Hole, Wyoming....someone is killing rock climbers by shoving them to their death. She has teamed up with Sargent Timbrook with the local police but feeling a little bit lost without Ellington by her side. No leads and another climber is killed. Mac needs to get her head in the game before more climbers meet their death.

It's no secret that I am a huge fan of Mr. Pierce's work and I was given an advanced copy of Before He Envies for review and I was in no way compensated. As always Blake has written a fine story that I highly recommend.

Another good read from Blake Pierce. I love his books and find myself racing through them. I'm in the process of reading 3 different series and enjoying them all.

I liked that with this book Mac struggled with a real issue, becoming a mother. I loved that she loved being a mom, loved how she was with her baby and how good she was at things, even as she snipped with Ellington as they settled into the new baby routine. Even Mac's struggle about going back to work was real because let's face it she has a dangerous job. Her boss sending her out on an easy case seemed to be just the thing to help her decide. The thing is, even as Mac figured things out, had fun while working the case, mentored the local detective, lightly schooled the local sheriff, you still aren't sure what her choice will be. I guess we'll have to read the next book to find out for sure.

Hands down my least favorite in the series so far.

Mackenzie's journey as a main character has been filled with growth and to see her and Ellington work together to get a dynamic with a new baby was enjoyable to read. I liked seeing them hit that next milestone.

But Mackenzie came off as super self-absorbed in this book. She is still reckless and seems to be talking a lot about how much motherhood has changed her with little to no action to back it up. A lot of that brought this rating down as well as just the same old--"all men in the unit look down on me cause I'm a woman." I understand that it happens but why does it seem like every time she goes to a small town there's always some dude whose brain is still in the nineteenth century?

I'm going to finish the series because there is only two left and the mysteries the author writes are always enjoyable (although I was kind of hoping we get a female serial killer in this one but alas not yet). Just hoping the final two are better than this one.

Content: Strong language used a little bit, discussions of sex and one scene where two people are caught having sex but only the description of someone being naked from the back is described, another sex scene but it is more implied than described, violence

Great mystery!

I love the Mackenzie White series and this one did not let me down! It was wonderful to see how she was doing as a new mom with her husband and new baby and the struggle to suddenly find herself away from home on a new case. The story is good, as I have come to expect, with great characters and lots of twists and turns. BUT,the editing is getting worse and worse!! Whole sentences and even some paragraphs do not make sense because the words are wrong. In some instances the characters names are wrong or are referred to as the wrong person!! I don't want to give up on a!I of Pierce's series but I'm going to think twice after reading this last book. I have read ALL of the Series from the beginning, even the most recent additions.

A woman in a mission both in her professional life and her personal one

I think I have read every series Blake Pierce has written and love them all. I love this series because of the personal life that is integral to the plot. Mackenzie is struggling with living her job and her newly married life. I love mystery and thriller books and this series will not disappoint however start with book 1. The one thing about this book is that it has more typos then any of his other books. Still read the series!

I've been enjoying this series, but I like his other series better. In this book, I've definitely become tired of Mackenzie. She seems bratty to me and I love Ellington. She's so spoiled and self centered. I'd love to have an Ellington and would rather read about him. I just had to get that off my chest.

This book I’m only giving it a 3 stars even though I read it in only 3 days I still found it a bit slowish. Mackenzie frustrated me because Ellington demonstrated that he missed his wife and he wanted to be there for her during her first case after having a baby, and I found her to be somewhat ungrateful!

Someone proofreading would have helped

So have always enjoyed this series but there were so many grammatical errors that it became a huge distraction. Misspelled words and words in the wrong tense detracted from staying completely engaged in the reading

2...Whelp, that went downhill quick!!! Kinda reminds me of James Patterson's Lindsay Boxer...had a baby, lost the fire...WHY? Why can't they still be bad ass??? 😕 I hope this is just a one off otherwise...

Although I have enjoyed reading this series, it seems Agent White is getting a little too risky in some of her choices. Climbing a rock wall in pursuit of someone ahead of her was downright dangerous. He was waiting for her at the top!! She was an easy target. So didn’t seem realistic to me.

Another good read!

Great mystery, keeps you guessing right to the solving. I like that the author really knows the back and forth about returning to work after leave and having to leave a baby.

It was absolutely beautiful to see Mackenzie transition from an agent to a mother and back to an agent. It's so hard for a woman to do that but Mac proved herself once again !!
Loved reading this .
