*takes a deep breath*

This was one LONG and wild ride. Now .. by the title "the COMPLETE 24690 series", I knew it would be a longer book. Because it was multiple books in 1, right? Despite the speed at which I was turning pages ... the speed in which the % towards completion was at a snail crawl. I was baffled. What in Sam Hill? How long is this dang thing?

For all you kindle users out there .. the very last page .. VERY last page of this book is "Loc 20387 of 20394". That's what my kindle stated. It was only when I finally completed this series .. did I really go back to Amazon to see how many books was in this series. It was a total of 7.

7 books in 1.

But now onto the real review:
----------------------------------------------

The writer did an amazing job with this series. It played like a movie behind my mind as I was reading it. In fact, during the entirety of the story ... flashes of songs crept up into mind. Like a soundtrack.

Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place (such a lovely place)
Such a lovely face
They livin' it up at the Hotel California
What a nice surprise (what a nice surprise)
Bring your alibis

...."Relax", said the night man
"We are programmed to receive
You can check out any time you like
But you can never leave"

- The Eagles

But in this case ... It's welcome to Whitlock. And yes, you would/could check out any time you like (by your own hand or by others) but you can never leave.

As the story opens, the stage is set with an incident .. which leads us to be introduced to our initial main characters:

Bram Whitlock
West Harper
slave 24690

The dynamics of this trio unfolds itself during the majority of the first book. We come to discover hints of their personalities, and who they are to one another as well as where the initial incident leaves our characters.

side note: I enjoy reading dark to pitch black reads. I was told this was probably going to lead towards the pitch black realm. It wasn't until I was about 2/3 of the way through the first book when it started to really get dark. So, for those who are curious ... the first 2/3 of the book did seem a bit slow going. Once the story does get going, it does become pitch black.

Whitlock is a fortress. A fortress hidden in the mountains, housing the unimaginable. By the end of book 1, you find yourself unsure of how you feel about our ... beauty and her 2 beasts. Is everything as it seems? What is really going on? What is truth? what is the lie? How far can our poor slave 24690 be pushed until she breaks?

It's true, we're all a little insane
But it's so clear
Now that I'm unchained

Fear is only in our minds
Taking over all the time

...You know you live to break me
Don't deny sweet sacrifice

- Evanescence

and that cliffhanger at the end of book 1!! holy smokes, it pulls you in. You're caught in the web of Whitlock.

Oh I've gotta save my blood
From all that you've broken
And pack up these pieces of me

It's too late now to stop the process
This was your choice - you let it in
This double life you lead is eating you up from within
A thousand shards of glass you pushed beneath my skin
And left me lying there to bleed

- Apocolyptica

Book 2 continues right where book 1 left off. We are now given a glimpse of ... The white room and the red lights. By this point I'm sure most readers are rooting for our dear slave 24690. This fire that burns bright amidst the darkness that wants to swallow you whole.

The red lights. The red lights. Have you ever imagined such a madhouse? so much red...

I need to find my sanctuary,
Some place safe.
Gotta' get this outta' me,
this is my escape.

And I... think about it all the time.
I'm volatile and afraid to cry.
But I'm... still not comfortable in my skin.
And the anesthetics, slowly... wearing thin.

And I, need to talk to... someone new.
I need a different, latitude.
And I'm... in this void all alone.
Feeling needy. Hungry to grow,
but I'm... suffocating,
Can't come down.

And... there's no way out...
There's no way out!

- OTEP

Eleven.

Remember this number as it will come to play, time and time again. It becomes such a deeply rooted number as well as such a freeing number. Eleven will open doors to some of the past. Eleven will also help close some doors to the past.

Have you ever witness two dogs fighting over a female in heat? Have you ever had to break up this vicious squabble? I have, personally, and everyone's at stake because blood will be spilled .. whether you are part of it or not. You will be sucked into the vortex if you are close enough.

For some, the darkness that surrounds Whitlock is maddening. For others ... It's the white.

Have you ever played chess? typically white on one side, black on the other. A game of the mind. Tactics. Strategies. Out maneuvering your opponent. Being one step ahead means you get one step closer to check mate. The most dangerous piece and the most powerful piece on the board is usually ... the queen.

The end of book 2 shows us a glimpse of what we thought was impossible.

You belong to me,
My snow white queen.
There's nowhere to run, so let's just get it over.
Soon I know you'll see,
You're just like me.
Don't scream anymore my love, 'cause all I want is you.

- Evanescence

Now book 3. I didn't see this coming. I said, "what is happening here?" " who are these individuals?"

By now you should know that the slaves come from somewhere. Book 3 gives us a glimpse of the process. Book 3 is a story about Charlee. You will come to find later exactly why this story was important.

This is me for forever
One of the lost ones
The one without a name
Without an honest heart as compass

...Oh how I wish
For soothing rain
All I wish is to dream again
My loving heart
Lost in the dark
For hope I'd give my everything

- Nightwish

Book 5 is where our initial story continues. You didn't think that was the end of slave 24690's story did you? of course not. Our queen of the chessboard is not done yet ... because where one game ends .. another is bound to begin. Only this time, players have to up the stakes.

And she's a killer
And she's a keeper ...

Am i blurry
In your vision

Was i just
A poor decision

Cut me open
With precision

& we'll finger
The incision

Tell me what have i done
(quid pro quo)

To watch you lose
Control

...You want to
See me burn
I am LIVING FIRE!

You will know me
By the scars I bare

- OTEP

Oh, I like this shade of red on you. All the pawns on this current game board start to become "collateral damage in a lover's war". But I'll let you read and enjoy how this queen takes pawns. But by the end of this book, our game is just about at a checkmate.

Book 6 is a bonus short story. More red lights.

The Final book, book 7 is titled : BLACK OUT. Ominous isn't it? This is where it becomes a straight up mad house. You don't know what's going on. Shoot, even the characters don't know what's going on. "Betrayal. Power. The two went hand-in-hand at this fortress. Once you threw in love, you had the holy trinity for impending doom."

Who's still in the game? who are the new players? how many chess games are being played at once? Strategies need to be reassessed, tactics need to be reworked, plan b, plan c ... Hope flickering and Hope dying. You really cannot predict the outcome of this black out. Who do you trust? Where do loyalties lie? loyalties can easily be turned. Those you thought you knew..

and that new major player in the game ..

Master of puppets I'm pulling your strings
Twisting your mind and smashing your dreams
Blinded by me, you can't see a thing
Just call my name, 'cause I'll hear you scream
Master
Master
Just call my name, 'cause I'll hear you scream
Master
Master

- Metallica

Just when you think it's the end of our beloved slave..

One misstep, you're mine
And you better stay clever if you wanna survive
Once you cross the line
You'll be wishing you would listen when you meet your demise

Your heart hits like a drum
The hunt has just begun

- Ruelle

This entire series all the way to this point becomes a series of whiplashes. Even when the story comes close to and end .. you think you know, you think you see..but you don't. Players are unearthed. The author does an amazing job in keeping you reeled in on this rollercoaster of death and destruction ... keeping you yearning for another go.

Imagine a place where money can buy you anything, the sickest of perversions are allowed and endorsed. Slavery is a way of life if you could call it that. This is Whitlock. A community of its own. Greed and jealousy runs rampant and results in murder, manipulation, and games. This whole series is an awesome display of humanity at its ugliest and has fed my depraved soul to the brim.

Your blood will be racing, your mind whirling and twisting, and you will either be jumping up and down screaming obscenities, or rocking in a corner waiting for the nice men with white coats to feed you your jello.

A word to the wise, before you read the first word of this DARK series, consider the following: 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙥𝙨𝙮𝙘𝙝𝙚 𝙧𝙞𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙝𝙧𝙚𝙙𝙨 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙬𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙪𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙢𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙞𝙣𝙝𝙪𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙚 𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙨 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙙? If so, 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 and step through the gates of Whitlock.

I had read most of the series as they came out but I decided when this complete edition came out that I would read the complete series.
This series DARK,DARK and more DARK. And it was absolutely phenomenal!
Everleigh is a slave in the beginning and what she endured still makes my toes curl and my mouth gape open. Main Master Whitlock is a man whom I hated very much in the beginning and West Harper was a man who was good. BOY was I wrong on both counts.
I suggest you read this series together, without interruptions because it is intricate and full of details that you want to remember right to the end.
Alaska Angelini this Whitlock series gripped me and kept me awake at night. The characters are so well written and you painted them in depth, no matter their good or bad qualities, that I felt like I was there with them in Whitlock!

Good Story - Needs a good proofread.

A good story, and just when think everything is about wrapped up, there's yet another sting in the tail.

However, there were so many grammatical errors, it was annoying! Past...it's an adjective, noun, preposition, adverb. Unfortunately the author continuously used passed, the past tense of pass. Also, lots of missing words, misuse of they're and their. Given the length of the book, a few errors would be forgivable but there were just too many.

Everleigh!

These books were written very well. The series were beyond exciting and interesting. It was an extremely dark set of books so if that's your thing you most definitely will enjoy this. Its filled with suspense, betrayal, greed, torture and just about everything you can imagine including cannibalism but the plot, the characters, the entire series is just amazing. It makes you really think since there are many underlying messages.

This entire series was a wildly torturous and suspenseful ride. To review each of these books, well there is a lot to digest.

I've had this on my TBR list for a long time now and I regret not reading it sooner. This is horror, with a tiny bit of erotic romance thrown in. In dark romance the focus of the story is the love developing between characters as they navigate difficult circumstances. With this series, you get that relationship development, but the focus is on the depraved trials the characters have to survive to get their HEA.

This is the story of Slave 24690, Everleigh. Kidnapped as a young child she has endured years of abuse and r@pe. Bram Whitlock is the heir and leader of Whitlock where he has tried to hide his feelings for Slave 24690. However, someone else wants what he has, including Everleigh, and his machinations set off a set off events that rock Whitlock's foundations to the core and set up the downward spiral of its demise. All our characters will suffer, but in the end the slave will rise to Mistress and prevail. How she gets there is a truly dark and disturbing journey.

Warning: ALL THE TRIGGERS, THEY ARE ALL HERE! Any torture or depravity you can imagine from horror movies, add in noncon/r@pe, and you have the twisted story of Everleigh, Bram, West, and the other unfortunate souls tied to Whitlock.

Reading Order (as presented in Whitlock: the Complete 24690 Series)
2469 (Everleigh)
Whiteout (Everleigh)
27001 (Charlee)
27009 (Layla)
27011 (Aamir)
A Red Light Valentine (Slave 42)
Black Out (Everleigh)

DNF @ 50%, and I am supremely bummed about it!!

I am relatively new to the dark romance world, and by relatively new I mean I started reading the dark stuff about 3ish years ago, and let me tell you... I embraced the dark side pretty fast. So, when I learned of The 24690 Series and it's label of Pitch Black, I was like, hell yeah - something so dark it supersedes dark romance... SIGN ME UP!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, folks, I made it to the end of White Out (book 2) and set the book down to read something I had borrowed from a friend. Picked Whitlock back up and had just delved into the beginning of 27001 (the first novella of Welcome to Whitlock), and had absolutely no ambition to read it. Not because it was too dark for me, but because I just no longer cared about these characters. I could care less about Everleigh and Bram and all of freaking Whitlock! And that just sucks!

I won't lie, the writing could have used a heavy dose of editing too, but I could have gotten past that if the story and it's characters had continued to hold my interest. Trust me, nobody is more pissed off about this outcome than myself. But, my TBR is just too large and my emotions just too intense to force myself to keep reading.

Happy Reading, y'all

I did not care for 24690 and White Out, but I absolutely loved 27001, 27009, 27011, the bonus Red Light Valentine, and Black Out. 24690 and White Out just sort of lingered on way too long for me and I found it boring but the others were full of suspense and action and thrills, there were several moments in the book I had to pick my jaw up off the floor. Everleigh is a strong, bad ass FMC, and the development of her character was great. I also loved the way the author developed other characters in the book and we got to follow their stories as well and she did a great job wrapping up their stories so we didn't get that what happened to them feeling and I appreciate a book with so many developed characters and their endings, as some books dont wrap up other characters the way A A. Dark did in this book. This was my first A.A. Dark read, and I really enjoyed her writing style and look forward to reading more of her work.

Meh - I thoroughly enjoy dark romance, this is NOT that - I love a strong FMC this is kind of that, I really don't have any triggers other than simping whiney characters, and this series created a new one - shock authoring (is that even a phrase?) The best comparison I have is to Howard Stern - Im going to say something JUST to say it to see if you are shocked. There was so much r**e and SA that at some point I'm left rolling my eyes wanting the author to just get on with the story already. There is a story to be told, and a twist that you see a mile coming but lord does it take forever to just get to the point. I don't regret reading, but if I knew then what I know now probably wouldn't have picked it up.

WOW , I’m not sure why I waited so long to read this series! I’ve read A.A. Darks other books under Alaska Angelini and loved them so why wait ? I don’t have an answer BUT I am thrilled I finally have , what a ride !! The main characters Bram and Everleigh have one hell of a roller coaster ride but they get their HEA and during their story you’ll come to love all the characters along the way (well most of them😉) 5 ⭐️ all day !!

The origin story

I absolutely adore AA Dark and her writing. I have read almost all of the books in this world. Each and every time you read and reread these books, you uncover more and more clues and layers. This is a very very dark series and some of the stories really open up your mind to the darkness this world is capable of. I don’t recommend it to everyone. But if you are no stranger to this genre, this is one that is so worth the read. This compilation is the beginning of it all.

Perfect Darkness

This was quite the roller coaster. It definitely delivered what I was wanting in a dark book. I have very few issues with the story but the editing of the book could have been much better. The only issue I had with the story was I couldn’t keep up with all the different people. That is a personal issue! It didn’t help that I read only a few pages at a time. I read this a lot slower than I do most books. Overall it was a good story.

Perfection!

Such an incredible, very dark series! If dark is what your after, read this! I didn't think there'd be a way to incorporate so many twists and turns into one series... This one did just that and didn't disappoint at any point. Cannot wait to read more from this author.

Daring Series!

This series touches on so many possible triggers so be warned! However, the writing style and storyline are great! I never expected to like this series because of the trafficking aspect of the story but I came to love the characters, even the ones I wanted to hate. This series continues to be one I compare others to, even a year after reading it.

Dark but great read

So many triggers. I’m not usually bothered by many things but there were some things that got me. Regardless of that, this series kept me on the edge of my seat. I could not put it down. If you like dark reads, this is one I’d definitely recommend.

This is a complete series! It is A LOT! I enjoyed it but it was A LOT. This was labeled as a black romance. I would say the last book is the only one I would really consider to be a little darker than dark. But as always check the triggers and know yourself.
