I'd like to rummage around in the brain of Tufo, but I might need therapy down the road. That said, #13 was the best yet. Than again I've though the same thing about nearly all of them. I don't even care any more that I seem to be reading them in no particularly order, not for lack of trying. Ignore the numbers and just go with the flow. Just cling to the bulldogs and beer and quit trying to figure out a timeline. Flummoxed at the apparently endless depth of his imagination.

This was a 2 star review at best for the first 2/3rd's ( much as it pains me to say that, as a Mike Talbot fan) but then it got back on track and ramped up to what I'd expect. So now it's 4 stars but that 2 star beginning does the book no favours. Still invested though and I'm team Mike for life.

(I listened to this on Audio and about part way through the narrator, Sean Runette, changed Deneaux's voice for a chapter or 2. Totally threw me, and not in a good way. Come on Sean, you've been doing this for 13 books already, keep up! I still can't work out what happened but I'll just hope it doesn't happen again because that kind of thing really sets me off...)

On to the next...

This is the best one so far. I am eagerly awaiting the next installment of this series. It makes you wonder. What will Talbot do?

This book was so amazing, just building up for so much to happen. Just when you think Mark Tufo can't take this story anymore he does.

The only reason I am knocking it down a star is because (from an audio book standpoint) I felt some of the transitions in the timeline were very sudden. I had to check a few times that my audiobook didn't skip ahead, but not we had just moved on to a new part of the story. OH AND ALSO I WANTED MORE TRIP!!! The build up on the first half to find him and then he was barely in the rest of the time was disappointing.

Can't wait for the next book...the cliffhanger is killing me!

I still got lots of laughs with this volume, but it is darker than the last several.

Beware rant-about-to-throw-down. First I must say that my hubby and I love listening to these Audible books on the way to work. We have listened to all of them together and it's been fun. To say the least we are VESTED in Mike, BT, Tommy and Trip.

Mark Tufo ended this book in the MIDDLE of the proverbial story.

***Super Annoyed*****. Eyes rolling. Doors slamming. Screaming at the top of ones lungs - what the FRENCH TOAST!!!!
The Epilogues do nothing but frustrate the reader/listener b/c they have nothing to do with anything. What about the gods? What about the stranger from book 12 who left a phone that worked once and was never mentioned again and no help came?? Why didn't Mike ask the stranger about the existence Yeti since he is clearly interested in them? How is Trip/ Trip's consciousness traveling in the fog? Where is Tommy getting custom made pop-tarts from? Where is Trip getting an endless supply of smoke from?
And the timelines of this book and the other [Demon] series are off and that is annoying as well because those of us who have read all of the books get irritated by the inconsistencies. Mike either needs to be a bad-assed vampire or not. This wishy-washy vamp strength here today gone tomorrow is a nerve pluck. Tommy is the MOST bad-ass and he was hardly given an honorable mention in this book - WHY MARK? All that being said of course we will be purchasing book 14. Hurry the #$%* up with that Mark.

I’ve been a fan of Tufo since I can remember. It simply happened. I found him; I became a fan. The thirteenth installment of Zombie Fallout let me know I was smart to not stop a few books back, when I felt it wasn’t anywhere near as good as the rest.

Everything in The Perfect Betrayal was clever, deep and as always, entertaining! Mike, as always is a good guy, though his methods and descriptions of events are rather comical (gross), but he’s a man after my own heart. He’s quirky, funny and chocked full of habits and phobias to fill a dictionary! But he’s a good guy!

When he finds his squad, as well a family and friends, are being set up, for a military take over- meaning someone wants to run the military- and it’s not a general, he’s gotta make a move. But how do you do it without facing the firing squad??

ZF13: The Perfect Betrayal is filled with suspense, horror, zombies and fabulous antics. If you’ve read one, then you know it’s filled with exciting entertainment for all Z-fans.

It pains me to say this but the the worst betrayal in this book is by Tufo.

One half of the book is a mission, that surprise goes bad and they find their way out. Another third of the book is another mission that surprise, goes bad and they find their way out. Nothing new there right? Add that all up it comes to 5/6 of the book. Or 83.3% for those of you not good with fractions. That's a lot of pages for a shockingly small amount of story. Most of the rest of the book is explaining to others what happened during those missions.

There's about five pages that actually move the story along in this book. The cliffhanger was so ill-timed and ridiculous that for a little while I thought I had a defective book. I'm still not 100% sure I don't.

I completely understand the things need to be stretched out in a now 13+ book series, but that's Tufo's problem, not ours. If he's having problem with content or endings maybe it's time to hang this particular story up.

PS - I gave it 2 Stars because I'm a fan of the series and I don't want to be a total dick.

Great Book

Actually, great series!.Mark Tufo is a fabulous writer. He took flat, black works on white paper and turned them into people you'll love. The ones who you hope you can be with during the apocalypse! Funny how we're in the middle of a covid pandemic now and they are rushing out a vaccine. 😳 hmmm.....

From the moment we meet Eliza in the parking lot then all the way to Etna Station , I knew I was reading great stuff, but it seemed different from my other post apocalyptic books. His style and his characters are really unique to him. Mark Tufo has managed to bring us along with Mike and family on a wonderful journey. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

This was the first time in a while since I enjoyed this series again. If you have read my past reviews you know I used to be a big fan of Mark's. Now I read these books cause I started them. Although I have read Demon Fallout so technically I know how it ends. If you haven't read those DON'T! Just wait till he finishes this series, if that ever happens.

This book had some answers to some long missing characters. It had a lot of information and the story was really interesting. I was so mad that it finished Lord of the rings style! Who knows when he will write the next one since he has to write 30 other series instead of finishing this one!

Perfect Betrayal was outstanding, Marine. Every bit of it was exactly the classic Talbot-tale I hope for when beginning one of Mark's books. I just can't get enough of Mike and the crew... which is why I was let down like a kid on Christmas morning who unwrapped the shiny paper, popped open the box and was greeted by empty space and lonely tissue paper when the audiobook dropped off into the epilogue. Damnit Tufo, you can't just leave us hangin' like that! You better get your ass in gear and finish up book 14 with the quickness.

Anyways, thanks for the awesome read. Keep 'em comin.

I’ve been a fan since day one. I’m not going to lie this one left me screaming!! Just a cliff hanger!! Why can’t we just get that satisfying end to Danoe. Lol. I know some of the comments hate these what they’re calling “fuller books” but I honestly enjoy them. It’s like getting a glimpse into their daily life and still some pretty crazy shit goes down and happens. I love how Mark can write and entire book where very little happens yet so much happens. Looking forward to the next book and hopefully and end to that icky Danoe.

There is very much a snake in the garden of Etna as one of the darker plotlines takes shape. Dewy continues to terrorize the base and Mike's family and friends. The line between leadership responsibilities and morality become intensely blurred in one vile scenario after another. My heart wept for Springer.

Trip is baaackkkkkkk. 💨✌🏼

At it again

Another great Talbot book. As usual, things don't go as planned for our stalwart squad. Actually, they're getting worse. Mike, BT, Tommy, and the gang are deep in the doo-doo this time around (what's new?). Got me looking forward to #14...

I'm ready for 14 i chose the rating because there are only five stars. I would give six seven eight if there was eight.

Mike is like Trump . Neither one can keep their mouth shut. But he is who he is. Great book. Waiting on 14. Thanks.

That hurt

I was not done reading before this book ended....you know that feeling you get after you binge several seasons of a awesome series and then there's no more for almost a year? That's where I'm at.

Cliffhanger Alert :(

Lots of fun with the Talbot gang, and as always, Sean Runnette absolutely nails his performance. The book was only marred by having a cliffhanger ending inflicted upon us -- words can not express how much I loathe it when an author screws over their readers like that.

Perfect reading for any zombie fan

As per usual a gripping book from start to finish. Loving the characters and the way the story is put together you could almost imagine being there with Mike all the way through. Looking forward to the next book.

What is happening!???!

Just when I get into a good rhythm and the story is rolling like a well oiled machine…left turn…switchback…you name it, Mark puts it out there. We’re getting some very huge plot twists again…and these cliffhangers!
Can’t wait to dive into the next book!
