Perfection...The single word that best describes the Legends of Fae.
They are beings with no flaws, divine creatures with power sparking at their fingertips. A race so exceptional that it feels almost forbidden to think about them, especially for someone like me.
I’m Rosadette Campbell, a seventeen-year-old girl who has nothing in common with those divine, worshipped beings. No, I’m a human — at least, that’s how we refer to ourselves. We pretend not to hear the litany of degrading slurs other races use to describe our kind. We were the dominant species once, but now we’re considered little more than rats. Especially someone like me, an orphan raised out of pity by the village.
I’m at peace with my low status, but everything goes to hell when I accidentally punch and knock out Prince Xavier, the heir to the highest Fae Court — the strongest, most lethal court in all the lands and universes. If that weren’t bad enough, Prince Xavier also happens to be the son of the headmaster of Fae Rose Academy.
Legends say trouble comes in threes, and that holds true for me when I learn I'm supposedly one of the Fae. It must be a practical joke designed by Prince Xavier to ruffle my feathers, but the joke’s on him. I’m determined to face whatever challenges he decides to toss my way.
I’ll prove myself worthy of walking the halls of Fae Rose Academy. I'll tackle their world, and in the process, just maybe find something extraordinary.
All Written Work by Quinn Ashwood X Avery Song are NOT Reverse Harem. This is an M/F romance
R.I.P. MY SANITY. ive noped the fuck outta this...i shouldve done so at the prologue but i try to give first books in series a good go but god am i regretting it. I have a headache i hate it it unbelievabky got worse as it went on and it was a killer to force myself through the first chapter so as you can imagine torture is not a dramatisation of this experience. Moth mcs were INSUFFERABLE. LITERALLY. theyre were 2 female characters that were half decent amd thats chamomile and the queen. Thats it. I honestly am so frustrated like i wad in a reading slump to begin with and though an fantasy adult academy book would be perfect a new series the blurb made it out like the MFC had some spine and experience and wouldnt be a doe eyed twit but alas anything interesting or fun was so small and so short that it wasnt worth it and just got tainted by the crap surrounding it and the perzon it was coming from being a laughably shitty character like never have i wished for a protag to be hit by a car which im not sure e vrn e ist because not only does the character and story suck and good god the world building is so much worse all tell no show and what they do tell is unrelated or boring and only adds to the mary sue ness and reads like its gone through google translate 5 which ways before spewing onto the page and ruining my eyes. SERIOUSLY SAVE YOURSELVES ITS TOO LATE FOR ME. THIS IS A HUMAN CENTIPEDE LEVEL HELLSCAPE.
Yeah, good idea, I guess. The fae academy admitting a human whilst being at the same school with her destined mate, only she doesn’t know, is a good idea. And plus Rosadette is fae, apparently.
But let me rant about the romance: IT WAS STRAIGHT UP CONFUSING.
So her destined mate is Xavier, kind of the brooding, bad guy that I thought was going to be endgame. He and Rose clash, they are both stubborn, and I thought it was going to be like a bully romance. In comes Prince Rainer, he’s the nice guy, the sweet guy with the sweet words and present, the guy that we know won’t end up with the MC in the end.
But he does?????
Somehow we’ve just tossed the whole fated mates thing out of the window and the character of Xavier just turned horrible and twisted and mean, something that was not good because he had potential, and it’s sad to see his character being changed like that.
Also the cursed rose. Reference to Beauty and the Beast? Yeah. The rest of the book has nothing to do with it though.
Plus, Rain is just boring as hell. “Come here my sweet rose.” . Let me throw up.
This book was absolutely horrific! I would give it 0 stars if that was an option! (I only made it 23% before I gave up)
I’m a quarter through a book that claims to be about an academy, and yet we’ve only heard it mentioned maybe three times?
Let me give you some of the highlights:
1) The word ‘tooshie’ repeated over and over and over and over 2) An old drunk man catches the FMC peeing in a bush, and suddenly she’s giving him a philosophical lecture on why she didn’t kill herself? I know it’s a fantasy book, but come on! 3) The MC is a complete arsehole with no redeemable characteristics (and given a lot of POV at the beginning) and is also the FMCs ‘destined mate’ - and yet she ends up with a DIFFERENT GUY 4) All tell, no show 5) The FMC is also insufferably ‘perfect’ - but also has the oh-so-tragic orphan backstory. But guys it’s ok! She wants to prove herself and her worth to the world through kindness! (Sigh)
The general writing was not great either. The choice of language and chapters did not make sense with what the story wanted. Why is the author giving a male POVs when he isn’t the love interest? Especially since the blurb is trying to make us believe he is.
It wasn’t a ‘gasp’ surprise, just bad writing and bad planning.
(I do have to say I liked the idea of the book, just not the execution).
It's official...I've found my newest book obsession!!! I devoured this book and am already going through withdrawal, desperate for book two! Avery Song has yet to write something I don't like, but this book written with co-author Quinn Ashwood had me excitedly cheering and booing throughout! If you like badass females that whether treated horrifically, or showered with love rise above it all and become even better versions of themselves, then this book is for you. She was raised in a village as an orphan, with no parents. Ridiculed and tormented for her entire life, with very little comforts, and only one dear friend... Yet through all these hardships she's kind, thoughtful, forgiving, and has a great disposition. Her entire life changes in a moment upon learning she's supposedly fae and not the human she always believed. When she's whisked away to a fae academy, Rose endures far more ridicule and cruelty than ever before! The only bonus is this time she has a few champions cheering her on. There's many secrets she's slowly uncovering, and learning about herself and those around her. I can't wait to see what happens when the veil is lifted and everyone sees her as she truly is! I for one am longing for the moment a certain someone gets their comeuppance, and for Rose to FINALLY become the shining star she's meant to be. She may be kind and forgiving, but that doesn't mean she's a pushover. I couldn't put this book down!!!! Bring on book two!!!!!
This was a great introduction to Rosadette’s life. Her begging was not so great because she was an orphan that lived with the charity of the village and she was bullied a lot. All this changes when she discovers her Fae heritage and with her best friend join the Fae Rose Academy. There she is still bullied but discovers friends, love, education and her dedication guides her in a path to became better. Nothing is just light or darkness, good or evil. She will have to grow really quickly to choose for herself who is real and who isn’t. The secondary characters are well constructed and together with the extremely well description they turn this book a super great read. Let’s see how the story will develop.
I fell in love with this story from the very first page and in NO way was I disappointed at all. Rosadette being raised as an orphan in a human village has no clue to who or what she actually is. Now shes attending Fae Rose Academy and learning so much more. This story is so well written and it went way beyond my expectations of how this was going to go. Everything about this story drew me in and I really, really can not wait for the next book because I definitely need more and to find out what's going to happen next.
Loved the book. Can’t wait for year two. Xavier is a complete azz. Team#Rain all the way. Rose is a delightful character that is sweet and naive at first but once she starts the academy she she soon starts to realize that all is not what it seems. From who she thought her best friend was to who the princes are. Great storyline a must read.
Oh WOW! This has to be my new favorite by Avery Song!😍 This was Fantastic, Epic, And full of Magic! It did not go like I thought it would! At All! I Loved its unpredictability! I thought one thing and it turned out the opposite!! I need MORE!!❤❤❤ So many questions!! I can't wait until July!! It's too far away!!😭
I really like the opening scene of this book, the Queen who leaves rose petals in her wake and the palace changing colour with the Queen's moods, but somehow the overall story didn't gel with me and I wasn't taken by the characters. I will try other series by the same author and see if those speak to me more.
Imagine being an abandoned baby growing up only because a poor village took you in and provided the bare minimum to survive. Then finding out there is more to you than anyone knows. This is the story of Rosedette Campbell.
A great start to a series where Rose learns so much about herself, realizes she can be strong, fight back and keep those boys in line. Looking forward to her continued interaction with Xavier.
Im not quite sure how to review this book honestly. The storyline is promising, has potential to be great series. Though im not so sure about some character regarding who is the villain and who is the Hero in this story.
1st i thought Xavier is the male main lead but after read the book he's such a d-bag n asshole prick. It seem's he doesnt have a redeemable quality whatsoever. Then there's another main lead male name Rain, short conclusion he's a prince charming and boyfriend material for every girl has ever dream of. But Rain just too good to be true and too early to be the Hero in the book for my taste. I wonder if he's the main lead then why Xavier had more POV chapters than him?
Im gonna give it a try to continue read the 2nd book to know if this gonna lead to enemies to lovers/love-hate relationship kinda line (like Feyre and Rhysand in ACOTAR and Juliette with Warren in Shatter Me series) or not.
I liked this book. Rosadette was awesome. She’s a little naive but with support she blossoms. She’s been raised in the human world but is really a Fae and destined to be with Xavier. I was really rooting for Xavier to get his stuff together but he turned out to be crazy. Rain was there for Rose whenever she needed him but he always seemed like he has ulterior motives. I’m interested in finding out what happens next.
DNF. These authors seem to be lacking a basic grasp of English. "... another thing coming", "go back to your sleeping corridors"??? Do they mean sleeping quarters??? And the way the characters speak is awful. I can't do it.
Rosadette is an orphan who was abandoned as a baby in a poor village. The villagers took pity on her, giving her a place to rest her head and odd jobs to do. She didn’t have many companions aside from her best friend, a rich fae who’s always looked after her. On her birthday, Rosadette is given a mission to meet on a hill at midnight. It’s a test she passes, but it ends in her punching a prince and being whisked away to Fae Rose Academy.
Fae are all about perfection, and Rosadette is anything but. So, when she’s invited to become a student, she has major doubts. She can’t be fae. She’s too ordinary, and she’s never used the elemental magic the other students do. But her friend Chamomile will be attending the academy, and living in a castle is appealing.
There are two academies, one for dark fae and one for light fae. Rosadette will be at the school for light fae which is run by the king and queen of the prince she knocked out. She doubts she’ll fit in, and an entrance exam debacle proves her right. But bullying won’t keep this secret fairy from learning magic and studying fae history to ascend to someone worthy of being the queen’s apprentice.
What she doesn’t know is that she’ll have to impress more than the queen. Xavier has her magical rose, and he is to date her because there’s a prophecy that she’ll heal the kingdom. But Xavier is a royal jerk, whereas Prince Rainer is a class A stud with a heart of gold, even if he has an ex-girlfriend whose jealousy of Rosadette prompts a gang of mean girls to come against Rosadette.
buy-now-button-1
I love that this book mentioned periods because women have them, so it’s weird that they rarely pop up in books. And though it did feed into the notion that PMS can make woman rude (which I’m not a fan of), it made them more powerful when they were on their period (which was awesome).
Another surprising element of this book was the fae type of arranged marriage where a rose appears to the man so he’ll know they’re a match. However, if the love is not nurtured, the rose will wilt and the chance at love will be lost. In the beginning, I was hoping Xavier was just brooding guy who Rosadette would change for the better. So, when Prince Rainer showed up and was friendly to Rosadette, I wasn’t sure what the authors were trying to do or if this was to become a love triangle.
Rosadette had enough to deal with: her new life, school, and mean girls who literally put a death curse on her. I didn’t want her to have boy trouble too. Knowing that Xavier was meant for her, I wanted to see it happen. I didn’t want to love Rainer only for fate to break my heart. But I couldn’t help it. Xavier just got worse and worse, and Rainer got sweeter and sweeter. This is a series, and authors like to trick readers by switching up relationships. I hope that doesn’t happen here because her choosing Rainer sends a powerful message that girls don’t have to settle for an abusive relationship.
It would take a crap ton of change for me to pick Xavier over Rainer at this point. Avery Song and Quinn Ashwood do such a great job of establishing Xavier as a villain by the end of the book. As always with these authors, the endings are the best. Book one is all about Rosadette finding self-worth and standing up for herself. But the end sets the stage for a wicked adventure I can’t wait to go on.
I’m especially excited because I haven’t read a book set in a fae society in years, and I want to see the world beyond the academy and if Rosadette will learn her destiny and fall even deeper in love with Rainer. If you like coming of age paranormal fantasy with a hot love interest and Beauty and the Beast vibes, you’ll love this. You may also enjoy the Wings series by Aprilynne Pike.
Just when I believe one of my favorite authors can’t get any better, she completely proves me wrong! With the introduction of a brand new series we are given a fantastic new world and mind blowing characters that make you laugh, cry and a few that make you want to slap them into next week!
Rosadette Campbell is an orphan who was raised in the human world living on the crumbs of the towns generosity or lack there of. She never had a true home or loving parents, no one really cared if she made it through the bitterly cold temperatures or the blazing hot days where she tried to stay positive and ignore the hateful and mean things that other kids her age were always spouting at her.
Then Rosadette is befriended by a girl who teaches Rose that it’s ok to be true to herself. To realize that she deserves so much more than she is currently given and to not be afraid to reach for the future she so desperately longs for.
When Rose is given an invitation to a school for the Fae, she thinks that there must be a mistake, how can she, a human of such low means ever be invited to such a wonderful institution.
As Rose is introduced to the new world of the divine Fae, she soon realizes that not everyone who helps you is your friend, some boys who are ‘fated’ to love you, don’t realize that fate works in both directions and that your true friends will support you no matter the consequences.
Join Rose as she learns that in order to love others, she must first love herself, in order to grow, she must believe that she is deserving and that if you surround yourself with the people who love you, then the impossible suddenly becomes possible.
This is definitely one book you will love reading and re-reading. I’m hoping it’s going to be on Audible soon...😬
Hurry and hit the one click button NOW! Then find a quiet corner, you will be so happy that you did!
>Book Review – Fae Rose Academy: Year One >I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 1st in the For the Purely Divine series and ends in a cliffhanger. Rosadette is an orphan raised by her town. They hardly care for her needs and ignore and tease her a lot, but she is still a sweet girl. She has a rich friend that gives her companionship, but not any basics, like food or bedding. Her friend’s purpose is revealed later in the story, but why she didn’t help Rose is unclear. This reality includes the existence of both Fae and humans. The Fae are in a class above humanity Rose is taken to Fae as she is told she is not fully human. >Light and dark Fae princes are introduced. The light Prince, Prince Xavier, is shown as a spoiled brat in the scenes with his parents. He has an elitist personality without any empathy. His fated mate is shown to be Rose, but he thinks her humanity is a slap in the face to him. Xavier gets quite a few chances to stick up for Rose and he never does. When she is ill, he never visits. When he trains her, he doesn’t teach, just yells disparaging comments to her. >The dark Prince, Prince Rainer, unexpectedly becomes her cheerleader and protector. The story is not a true love triangle. The 2 princes are both polar opposites. Xavier is too evil and Rainer is too nice. Even as nice as Rainer is, there really isn’t any real romantic chemistry. Rainer and Rose seem more like best friends, than lovers. >This book is appropriate for a new adult (18+) audience. I am giving this book 4 stars. Xavier’s actions at the end of the story seem to set his story as the bad guy in stone. I don’t know how the author will ever redeem him.
This book is amazing. Sadly it is a bit slow as well. In the beginning the story is told from Rosadettes and Xaviers POV. Which leads to the belief that they will become a cupple. My problem is I HATED Xavier since his first point of view. He is a selfish, self entitled, noisy, mama whipped sorry excuse of a selfish boy that has zero redeeming cualitys. So yes I was about to quit this book. But I did like Rosadette. Yes she has self worth problems. And seems kinda whiney for a time. But she has amazing friends and great Character development that shows how she grows from Girl to Woman. And honestly. She deserves the best. Rainer (who gets a POV later on) is a nice guy. And for the first time in my reading life I hoped that the nice guy gets the girl. He supports Rosadette and helps her where he can. Yes from time to time you think what is his angle in all of this but that is far inbetween.
Xaviers mother is a brilliant and grounded Character that sees the flaws of her son and actually helps Rosadette when he is insufferable to her again. A true and kind queen.
There is a looming threat that darkens the life's of the Characters but it is not truly grasped yet who or what exactly this enemy is.
Secrets are kept. The true characters hidden. But all together this book was amazing and if not for the beginning (which really sucked) it would get 5 Stars.
Rosadette is an orphan raised by a human village in the wealthy area of Himalayan. In the area there are human and fae. Rosadette has been given a place to sleep, clothes, and one meal a day for the last almost 18 years. In return she works in the fields. She has been bullied and mistreated, but mostly ignored. Until she met her best friend Camomile. Camomile is from a rich family near by. Rose knows things will change now that she's turning 18. She just doesn't know how much. Right before her 18th birthday after walking Camomile home she meets an old man. He tells her to go to a Fae temple in the woods and hour before midnight on her birthday. She didn't know a temple like that was there, but she tells Camomile to wake her and goes anyways. There she is tested and found to not be human as she thought. Prince Xavier comes to take her and Camomile to Fae Rose Academy. Things become interesting then. So I'm not going to spoil it. But Rose and Cam go to the Far Lands and meet the King and Queen and get ready for school. The first year doesn't go as you might think. Things definitely aren't as they may seem. Rose learns the hard way you can't trust someone just because they seem nice and smile to your face. This is a really good book with some good lessons in it. I'm very much looking forward to the next one and learning more about Rosadettes past!
I tried to like Prince Xavier but he always found a way to make himself look as an a..hole. The clothes were nice of him but then he ruined it all. Instead of actually trying he just well you get the gist. So I became a team Prince Rainer fan. I ship him and Rose hardcore. I was not surprised by Rose being of half Light and Dark side (whatever) because I thought maybe she is the Dark side to Xavier's Light. Except their personalities do not fit their categories. Though we do not get that all of the Dark sides are bad or blah blah crap. So who knows. Anyways it was funny when Rose was trying to guess which side Xavier was because even I could not see him being Light. Though we only had Camilla, Rain, and the King to get a feel of what the others are like. They are not bad and actually treat Rose better. Anyways, I can not wait for the second book and I hope Rose kicks Xavier's crazy a.. and someone does something about him. He is just a pest now. Btw, I wonder if there is another Dark prince around the academy and maybe he is the jerk Camilla was paired with. I hope we get to know his identity in book 2. I want a Camilla story too.

Tons of grammatical errors: maybe vs may be, conceded vs conceited, double-ended vs double-edged, 5"4" vs 5'4".
Also, the author really enjoys giving out height information on all her characters which so far has completely unnecessary. This is a novel not a Tinder profile.
The chapter title and last sentence of the first chapter is puzzling: Just another day as human scum. "Scum" is a strong negative word, but I don't believe the chapter has provided proof of that. You have a sense of racism, that humans are looked down upon as a whole, but I didn't think it was demonstrated clearly in the chapter.
The language the MC uses like "booty" and "tooshie" drew me out of the book REAL fast, but I could look past it because if this is how she talks, it's how she talks. However, when EVERYONE including King Rose said "tooshie", that to me just demonstrated poor character development.
There's just a lot of unnecessary fluff in this book. It needs a good editor with a red pen.
Life's too short to read bad books. I'm moving on.
It has been a long time since I have hated a book as much as I hate this one. There is almost no dialogue, everything is conveyed through exposition.
The male MC is misogynistic, arrogant, boring, and conceited to point of being unlikeable basically a douchecanoe. The plot is the standard love will change him but he is so horrid that the change isn’t believable. I hate him so much that I wouldn’t want any female to be stuck with him.
The female MC is a weird mix of philosophically poetic with out the background to have given her that type of foundation. It doesn’t even appear that she did much schooling as a poor orphan raised by the village. She is good in all ways (which is a horrible subliminal message to give to women readers) so why would she want to be with the douchecanoe of the male MC.
I couldn’t make it all the way through. I hated it to much. So maybe it is great by the end but not likely.
I was a little confused. I started this book because it popped up on my Kindle after I did a search for Reverse Harem. It had the typical RH Academy cover (and author), so I didn't even read the blurb before downloading it. It was obviously NOT an RH since there is a CLEAR love interest and the other could-be love interest is such a deranged, childish asshole, that I didn't even want to think that he could be one later on. But, after finally going back and reading the blurb, I saw the note stating that it was, in fact, NOT a reverse harem....so don't read this book if you are wanting a reverse harem read.
I'll probably end up picking up book two just to see where this is going, because it intrigued me just enough, and I did like Prince Rainer, but it wasn't what I was expecting (totally my fault for not reading the blurb), so I was left a little disappointed.
This is the first Non-RH book I have read by Avery Song, but it in no way deminishes her brilliance in writing. She is able to bring in interesting ideas and mold them into an amazing story.
This book has some really strong characters. I love Rosadette and she seems to grow with every page you read. While her background still has questions to be answered she is dynamic and powerful. Other characters that draw you in are Rainer, Chamille, and Alicia. These characters all have me asking questions that I didn't always get the answers to.
I will admit I was shocked by parts of the book and the ending. I will admit I had a mindset on who was to be her match at the beginning and I was wrong for having that mindset and am extremely glade I was wrong. I can't wait for the next book, I still have questions that need to be answered.
I am very surprised this book has almost 5 stars. It’s very slow, the dialogue is too dang long. This may be a me thing but is it wrong to expect a black author would have more black characters or a black MC. I read fantasy all the time and I know I haven’t read every book but Jaymin Eve is a rockstar for always making black characters and they are usually important to the story too. It just sucks to not be represented like that. Anywho I did not like the descriptions, the naivety of the FMC, the MMC trying to come off as a hard guy didn’t really sell it for me. Also I know it’s hard to write from a male point of view as a female, but come on. Some of this stuff doesn’t even 1/2 way sound like it came from a man.
How on earth do I describe this book? So unlike Avery songs other works yet just as intense, just as much love and character growth.
It’s been a very long time since I’ve found a book this good that I can’t put down.
From beginning to end you feel the love, light and affection in this book. Analogies aside it’s an eye opener to how words and actions mean more then the belief that just because a person claims to be good doesn’t mean they are.
The only downside to this book is the cliffhanger of an ending and that the next one isn’t out yet.
I honestly cannot wait to read more and although it is different from Avery’s normal style of writing I love it just as much ❤️
What a totally gripping, page turning book this was. From the first page we get to see kinda behind the scenes of when Xavier is called to choose his true loves rose. Which leads him to rosadette who he's deams unworthy of him. From this point the story comes from Rosadettes pov where it takes her from low human to the fae relem. Where we see her grow into the woman she was supposed to be. With the help of Prince Rainer and queen rose. We see her open up to her potential, with many twists thrown into the mix we get to see some crazy battles and bullying to a degree, to see Rose end the book in a shocking but then amazing way. Which will also leave you needing more
In a dystopian future, an human orphan gets thrown into a world of fae, magic, deceit, and lies, and this is only in the beginning of the book! Rosadette is tough, strong, slightly naive, a little self depreciating, and very optimistic. I loved watching her grow and I can't wait to see where her future leads her. As for the rest of the characters, they are so much fun! I couldn't tell who was really good, who was on Rose's team, and who is honestly fighting for the good of all. With the fae's myth of not being able to lie, but being experts on skirting the truth, the level of intrigue was high and made year one so interesting. An excellent start to a new series for sure!!
Mild adult content, reader discretion advised. Does dark automatically mean evil and light automatically mean good? Well Prince Xavier makes a delicious villain. He is l Like a spoiled toddler who wants to rule the worlds. Rosette and Chamomile are adorable best friends. Prince Rainer is the dark prince with a kind d heart you can't help but root for. Evil comes in many forms, and every act of evil starts with a small thought and then a small action until so many bad decisions have been made that harden their heart. They refuse to see others viewpoints or accept council. Most importantly they refuse to forgive and treat others with equality and respect.
However, I became so engrossed in the characters and the story thatI read this in only a few hours. The world building was wonderful and although it was subtle, it added life to the story. The struggles that Rosadette has to overcome are many, but with her BFF by her side, she makes new allies as she tries to navigate this new world she’s been thrust into.
The ending was just the hook I expected, but I’m not mad at it. Now I’ve just got to wait until the second book is published 😔
4 stars ⭐️
PS. If you’re wondering, there is no graphic sexual content, nor any strong language.
