This was a very good book, lots of action, a flawed hero, angels, Fallen angels, priests, some other demons, etc.
An Army Platoon protects and moves an old Egyptian mummy from Iraq to Antarctica. Weird and deadly things happen in Antarctica. Our hero is recruited to kill bad people supposedly by the Catholic Church. He gets trained and then, all is not what it seems.
Takes place in: Iraq, Antarctica, Ft Hood, Kileen, Tx, and a small town in the US (not sure where)
Not perfect, the hero always has the right weapons. There are also lots of religious references in the book. All fiction I assume. I liked the book and recommend it.

The volatile supernatural world of angels and demons fighting for control proves an impressive setting for a story that’s high on suspense and tremendous action in this first installment in the supernatural thriller series by Bacon.
When Jacob took command of his army unit to accompany a group of scientists from Baghdad and see them safely to the base at Antarctica, he barely had any idea about the horrendous ramifications that awaited him and his men. After becoming a victim of magical artifacts and demonic possessions, he not only loses his sanity but also his entire platoon. As he is shown door out of the military, Jacob finds himself agreeing to work as a special assassin for the church. In the war between angels and demons, Jacob soon becomes a pawn. Now it’s up to him to see the reality behind people’s facades and select his path accordingly as humanity is about to fall victim to the rising evil forces.
Although the story seems like a culmination of several wildly improbable events, readers will cherish the wild thrill ride along with highly efficient hero as he single-handedly tackles a wide array of seemingly unstoppable villains: despicable pedophiles, dangerous dark forces, vicious demons, and fallen angels. Bacon’s character portrayals are right on the spot as he moves from one diverse set of heroic characters to villainous another. His portrayal of his antagonists (both supernatural and other: Nimrod, Father Bill, Mark and several other) is skillfully done: they evoke fear despite staying in shadows. Jacob is an astonishingly resourceful hero, smart, stern-willed, and likable. His connection with Tanya will be worth watching in the next book in the series. Readers will hope to see more of Steve in the next installment. Steve’s conversation with Bacon (in the end) builds anticipation, making readers excited to get their hands on the next installment.
Bacon’s writing is assured, the prose crisp, energizing the familiar plot that’s high on action and thrill. The suspense stays ripe throughout the narrative as anticipation keeps building with surprising twists. The narrative is swiftly paced, and the atmospheric settings do justice to the story’s mysterious, gothic undertone.
The graphic scenes of tremendous violence and bloody mayhem inject elements of horror, making for a gritty supernatural thriller that’s rich on both action and suspense.
Lovers of fast-paced supernatural action will be pleased.

Jacob Baccus is at loose ends. Back in the States after a failed military mission (his opinion, not mine), he’s approached by a secret society to become a trained assassin. His no nonsense mentor, Steve, teaches him everything he know, including who to trust. Jacob uncovers a plot that points the finger at the secret society and Jacob works to bring them down, even if it’s at the expense of his own life. This story kept me engaged from beginning to end. Jacob’s smart, sarcastic wit had me laughing out loud numerous times.

Horror isn't usually a genre I read. But then again, The Darkside of Good is NOT your average horror novel! This story is infused with so much more. Yes, there's blood and guts and scary bits. But there's also elements of fantasy, romance (yep!), sci-fi, thriller, history, and most definitely humor! I totally LOL'd in parts!! If you're looking for a fast-paced, action-packed, suspenseful (and funny!) ride... look no further. This is it!

Oh man this was...just well...awesome. I mean, seriously thrilling and captivating. I couldn't stop reading and now I'm diving head first into book 2. I hope there will be many, many more to this series.

Fast-paced and sassy!
This book was not what I expected—it was more. Fast-paced action and sassy characters who come alive off the page kept me interested, laughing and eager to turn the page! The author has done a fabulous job setting up the story, and slowly unveiling the overarching series. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will definitely be reading the next one in the series for I would dearly love to know if Steve comes back!

Hamster Steve!
Just kidding.
The Darkside of Good had me hooked from page 1.
From there I read on into the night until I was begrudgingly told to go to bed for real. Yes, my significant other made sure that I didn’t sneak off to go read more. So, I did go to sleep even though I did not want to put the story on hold because it was good, funny and action packed.
The character interview at the end of the book was hilarious. Bacon, if you’re reading this then I vote for the hamster.
Get The Darkside of Good today because it’s awesome.

I don’t do military sci-fi. I don’t do horror. I certainly don’t do gore. But somehow, this sly devil of an author hooked me and made me thoroughly enjoy reading everything I normally dislike because he’s just that dang funny and talented. With nonstop action, a flawed-yet-hilarious MC, and a massive agenda that takes us alllll the way down to the south pole, I highly recommend you give this book a shot. If you hate it, you’re probably a catholic priest. Which is fine. You do you.

This book was recommended by my fellow veteran and friend turned author, Mike Slavin, and I am very glad that he did. The expanse of the narrative is truly worldwide, all the way from Baghdad to Antarctica. The book moves very fast, and once started, it is very hard to put it down. Especially enjoyed the “dark side” of DNA data mining. I agree with the readers who noted that this book crossed so many different genres in only 225 pages – mystery, action, sci-fi, supernatural fantasy. It is a clear morality play with good fighting evil – biblical evil, fallen angels.> And the hero is a hardened combat vet who uses all of his skill and experience to fight REAL demons and fallen angels on earth.

The Darkside of Good… Good work, Jeff Bacon. Is there a dark side of good? Perhaps. If eliminating a malevolent parasite, then I’d guess so. The book is well written. Action driven and fast paced. But I couldn’t exactly tell which genre I was in, which only led to the intrigue of the story. It was funny in parts, brutal and compassionate. All elements of a good tale. I had wished that the Antarctica excursion had been fleshed-out a bit more but, maybe next time. I’d suggest you read the book. You won’t be disappointed.

It takes some getting used too......
You have to set aside alot of your preconceived ideas about life and religion beforeyou can enjoy reading this book. But thats all I'll say about that. There is enough bloody action from the first chapter on that if you have a weak stomach you probably won't like it. .

Reading this book is as fun as playing a Doom game. It's fast-faced and engaging and you don't want to it to stop until you are blurry-eyed and late for bed.
I'm going to be diving into the rest of the books in the series.
