Let's say you're way too smart, good-looking, and overpowered for your new world. Do you become a grand mage? Or do you play it cool like Kaoru: waiting tables, running an advice booth, cleaning up after absent-minded adventurers, and running a secret society of do-gooders on the side? Life may seem sweet when most solutions are just a potion away, but that doesn't mean it's easy. After all, you can't really drink away a menagerie of marriage-minded nobles...
"I Shall Survive Using Potions!" is a manga series written by FUNA and illustrated by Hibiki Kokonoe. The story revolves around Kaoru Nagase, who dies in a mysterious phenomenon and is reincarnated into a different world. She demands the power to create potions at any time she pleases, with whatever effect she wants it to have, and the ability to understand and speak every language. Using her newfound powers, Kaoru has to try and make a stable life for herself in a whole new world.
In the second volume, Kaoru continues to use her potion powers to make a stable life for herself in a whole new world. She waits tables, runs an advice booth, cleans up after absent-minded adventurers, and runs a secret society of do-gooders on the side. Life may seem sweet when most solutions are just a potion away, but that doesn't mean it's easy.
"I Shall Survive Using Potions!" is a fun and entertaining manga series that is perfect for fans of fantasy and adventure. The story is well-written, and the characters are likable and engaging. The artwork is also excellent, with detailed and expressive illustrations that bring the story to life. Overall, highly recommended to anyone looking for a fun and exciting read.
Like others have said, it feels a bit aimless— it’s not quite slice-of-life, but the plot situations make it feel kinda like the author came up with the concept and character, then roleplays Karou through some different situations to see how it goes. Sometimes the wisdom Karou drops and/or relies on is a bit… odd and feels a little like the author wanted to drop mild-wisdom about random assorted topics they thought of at some point… but it’s entertaining enough that I plan to keep reading on.
Turns out I couldn't even finish the next book. XD DNFing after chapter 7, this is just not the story for me and after talking to some friends it's become clear that won't be changing any time soon. Too much weird sexism and incoherent economics/politics.
In this exciting episode of "My Isekai Life as a Con Artist" Kaoru is determined to keep a low profile so she doesn't get unwanted attention from people who will seek to take advantage of her. And immediately gets a job and sets up a super unique business that draws unwanted attention from people who would take advantage of her. GOOD JOB DOING EXACTLY WHAT YOU SAID YOU DIDN'T WANT TO DO!
Then Kaoru does her con artist shtick and manages to make her grand escape. And we start this whole song and dance over again.
The plot keeps repeating itself; Kaoru keeps purposefully doing the one thing she says she doesn't want to do; and if we do it one more time I'm actually considering dropping the series rather than suffer through this insanity.
