One of the great foundational books on Faberge, Snowman ranks Henry Charles Bainbridge for his lifetimes work researching and publishing on the firm of Faberge (his last book on Faberge came out in 2009). Of course the demise of the Soviet Union and the opening up of archives has meant that there is far more information available on Faberge but Snowman's book, like that by Bainbridge, is foundational. We know more now, their have been marvellous discoveries in the archives as well rediscovered pieces including an imperial Easter egg but it all comes back to the work of enthusiasts like Snowman.

Wonderful photographs, super text and as far as I can see there are plentiful cheap copies out there (as of July 2026) and it is well acquiring.

full of information and pictures of many Faberge items. So much more to see then just the famous easter eggs.

I get that Snowman is like, THE Faberge guy… but he is so judgmental for an art historian. He kept interjecting his own opinions in a way I found unsavory.
