The author writes absolutely amazing books there is no denying that!
This is the start of a new series, Call of the Rockies.
Combining faith,integrity,adventure,compassion and romance this is one book that will keep you turning pages very quickly.
Reading a book by this author you will feel as if you are in the thick of things right there with the characters in the Rocky Mountains facing danger .
A woman fulfills her dying father's last wish to travel Lewis and Clark's trail to the Rockies.
The description of the vast wilderness will take you back in time to this untamed land fraught with danger but yet full of hope.
Agreeing to help with the travel and help them are a group of men and an Indian.
The woman's father treats the Indian kindly and like a son, something the Indian is not
accustomed to.
It was heartwarming to see how Beaver Tail's heart was slowly opened spiritually as he learns about God and comes to understand and cherish Susanna.
I look forward to learning about the secondary characters in future books.

It's hard to comprehend that a young woman and her sick father would not only venture into the wilderness but be able to get as far as they did. I love the sense of adventure and the epic grandeur of the landscape that I can always count on from this author's books, and this one lived up to the standards she sets. While the harsh realities of uncivilized travel are expected, encountered, and overcome, this book felt a bit different with the grief Susanna struggles with, watching her father decline and knowing that his end is near. It brought a sense of anticipation of impending heartache, and I appreciated that she did her best to not only fulfill his wishes but soak up her time with him. The harder parts of the story are well-balanced with the friendship and sincerity of Beaver Tail and his comrades, and the sweetness of new love. The characters are well-formed and I felt like I was able to get to know them well as they journeyed. Beaver Tail's spiritual enlightenment was another aspect of the plot that brought depth and a sense of hope to both his and Susanna's future together. I'm looking forward to continuing the series as they search for the brother who is chasing the rumor of a special breed of horse among one of the tribes.

I loved this story! This author always does an amazing job of combining adventure, faith, and romance into stories that I just can’t set down. I have found that when I pick up a book by Misty Beller, that I can trust that I am in for a story that makes me feel as if I am part of the adventure, facing danger among the vast beauty of the wilderness. I also know that I am in for a heartfelt romance.

Beaver Tail’s spiritual and emotional journey was beautiful to read about. I loved seeing how he began to cherish Susanna, and how his heart was slowly opened to learning about God through his friends, as well as Susanna’s father.

Speaking of the other men on this wilderness trek, I was very impressed with the cast of characters in this story and hope that future novels will tell their tales. Each man seemed to be a man of integrity, but with backstories that I am eager to learn about. I loved this book from start to finish and look forward to reading more in this series.

I’ve always enjoyed books by Misty Beller but I must confess that this book is my favorite and I can’t wait to read more of the series. The author’s trademark descriptions of the wilderness and the mountains are still breath-taking and the harrowing trials in the wild still heart-pounding. The spiritual journey of Beaver Tail is raw, real, and heartfelt; the spiritual guidance and mentorship that Caleb and Mr. Wilkins provide is laced with love, gentleness, humility and respect. Mr. Wilkins, Susanna’s father, is a great example of a godly father, even with the terrible illness that makes him physically weak.

Beaver Tail is a tender-hearted, protective warrior with few words. Though he carries a burden from his past, he is still loyal to his band of brothers and remains honorable. He’s such a swoony hero! Susanna is a compassionate, brave, capable woman with a strong faith and determination. The emotions that run throughout the book are deep and there is a genuine undercurrent of grief that makes the characters very real and touchable. If you enjoy historical romance, you will love this book.

I’m not quite sure if Misty Beller has lived in the great outdoors, but she sure can write about them. Every one of her books is full of adventure, surprise, romance, and angry wildlife! Beller packs a punch with Freedom in the Mountain Wind. Bears, otters and Indians, oh my!

Beller has once again been able to take me not only back in time, but in the wilderness as if it is in front of mine own eyes. It amazes me how I could almost feel myself fighting with that bear! That’s how good Beller is at drawing the reader into the story. You aren’t just reading, you are experiencing.

Susanna and Beaver Tail are such a great couple. Each strong and independent, and yet vulnerable and find that they work so much better together. Their chemistry was evident from the very beginning, and yet Beller took her time with their romance. I actually enjoyed the story more because of that. You got to see them fight their feelings, until one day it just kind of came out and there was no going back. (sigh)

Readers looking for an adventure with some romance are going to devour Beller’s latest release. I highly recommend!! I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

FREEDOM IN THE MOUNTAIN WIND is a story of struggle and perseverance as these characters travel a harsh and wild land together. One group is there to reach a dream, while the other is searching for a missing brother. Together they find friendship, adventure, and even a bit of love. Highly recommended to both inspirational and general market historical romance readers!

I think this might be Beller's best story to date. I loved these characters, especially Susanna and Beaver Tail. They are both strong, but also well-drawn with their own weaknesses, fears, and strengths. I loved how their relationship develops and the quiet and small gestures between them that turn into something more. I also loved Susanna's relationship with her father and the other men travelling with them who each have their own stories to be told (and hopefully will be in future books in the series). There was plenty of danger and challenge to these characters' journey, making for an exciting story. I could also feel the intensity of the romance and of what was coming build towards the end. And what a bittersweet, but perfect ending it was.

My only complaint would be a few things seemed to get brushed off easier than they should have been. Like walking after a bear attack and a gun shot. I think those injuries would have taken more time to heal or the actual injuries should have been lessened originally to make things seem realistic. Regardless, I still loved this story!

In the end, was it what I wished for? This is a thoroughly enjoyable story that entertains and warms the heart from beginning to end. If you're a fan of the author or genre, this is definitely recommended. Likable, well-drawn characters, plenty of adventure, heartache, friendship, and a sweet and simmering romance make this a fantastic read!

Another thought-provoking, action-packed novel of the West before modern man left a permanent mark on the landscape. The author presents a daughter’s unselfish gift to her dying father. This tugged at my heart, making me contemplate how far I would go or do go to make the dreams of my family and friends become a reality? In the light of this dramatic example, I am challenged to make a better effort, to step out of my comfort zone in order to reach the dreams right out of reach. The love imparted by complete strangers to a young woman and her ailing father reinforces the truth of the good residing in humans from all eras. Thank you, Misty Beller for a heartfelt journey.

If one enjoys “western” historical Christian fiction as I do, this is a super first in a new series! It was fun following a few paddle strokes of Lewis and Clark on the Missouri River in the future Montana Territory and down to the Rockies. The love and loyalty of a father and daughter and the loyalty of friends are focal points, as are a strong faith in the Lord and wilderness adventure.

Thad Wilkins has long dreamed of taking Lewis and Clark’s trek up the Missouri River, through the Great Plains, to the Rocky Mountains. His illness would make it difficult, but his daughter Susanna was determined to make his dream come true. She and her father have been alone and very close since her mother died years earlier. They are far from home, just lost another guide, and face leaving the river to lug their boat around the miles of Great Falls themselves. Trouble is, Pa is getting weaker by the day and that boat is heavy!

They see a man nearby watching them. An Indian, he speaks perfect English. He can’t be their guide as Pa asks, but he could carry their boat to the other side of the falls. Beaver Trail talks little. His father left when he was very young. He is on this journey with his three friends to get away from women, especially how the last woman he spent time with had harmed his family. He didn’t want to be around another woman. One of his traveling companions, Joel, is looking for his brother, and they want to find him before winter.

When the men see Pa is ill with a terrible, wracking cough, they stay to help him and Susanna for a few days. Joel is anxious to find his brother, though, so the men split up. Beaver Tail and Caleb, a mountain of a man who is also an ordained reverend, stay behind with the Wilkins. Joel and trapper/ trader French move ahead and mark the trail in the path they are on.

One thing nobody planned on is the growing attraction between the two people who did not intend to get involved with anyone. Pa notices their glances exchanged and time in each other’s company while Caleb reads and discusses the Bible with him. Pa asks Beaver Tail if he has met their God – not to judge, but to tell him about the Lord. Beaver Tail doesn’t believe in God and doesn’t want anyone other than himself in charge of his life. His anger flares when understanding that Susanna would not be happy in the long run if she were matched with an unbeliever. He can’t stay angry at the frail man but tries to re-think his feelings and choices.

I appreciate many things about this novel. I very much like the six primary characters; they were well defined, unique, each with much to contribute. The faith shared by Pa, Susanna, and Caleb is displayed well through their actions, prayers, and conversations. The history of the area in 1830 before it was part of the US is fascinating, and the wild, beautiful west is described so well that I could almost feel I was there. The romance is sweet and unexpected, and the faith struggles of Susanna and Beaver Tail are realistic. I highly recommend this to readers who appreciate Christian historical fiction of the period of manifest destiny, faith, family, and romance.

Misty Beller is an author whose work I first read last autumn, and I was thrilled to add another historical fiction author to my favorites list. Not only that, but her books add a new dimension to nineteenth-century western tales by developing plots around mountain settings and survival in harsh terrain. As a child, my main area of interest was the American frontier, from Little House on the Prairie to Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. This will always be my favorite time period to read about, and it’s gratifying to find quality fiction that showcases it. Both of Beller’s books that I have read thus far have been kicking off a new series, which makes the experience even better.

“Freedom in the Mountain Wind” relates the interconnected stories of Susanna Wilkins and Beaver Tail. The characters are an essential element of this series, and they shine in this sequel. My heart went out to Susanna immediately as she selflessly cares for her ailing father while at the same time traveling west with him in the tracks of Lewis and Clark, seeking to fulfill his one wish. She is not the typical woman of 1830, but rather an intrepid adventurer and loyal daughter who puts others before herself. While she may not choose every situation she encounters, she has an indomitable spirit tempered only by naivete, and I found her inexperience to be endearing in several scenes. Beaver Tail likewise has a story that is somewhat nonconforming, as well as distinctive. The manner in which they relate to people and with each other is comical at times, yet always poignant: “He had the unique ability to move in tandem with her, as though he could read her thoughts and fade into her shadow. Words weren’t necessary with him.” Neither one particularly wants to need the other, yet as is always the case for believers, God uses their weaknesses to accomplish His purposes and to grow and mature them. “Freedom in the Mountain Wind” illustrates how common, standard parts of life can be approached with a unique angle when one’s faith is strong and secure.

First of all, this is a Christian frontier/wilderness romance. There is nothing inappropriate by way of content or language, and so I feel safe recommending it to all readers. The tenets of the Christian faith are woven into the storyline, and it's got a nice story that will appeal to those who love this style of romance.

By far, the strength of this book is the entire wilderness experience. I could not believe how many animals and their attacks were detailed in this book. It makes perfect sense because of the time period and the setting, but all too often, these books give you the romanticized view in which all the animals of the forest leave the potential settlers alone. Not so in this book. And I commend the author for including this as part of the story, for those moments were the most action-packed of the book.

One other thing I appreciated was some of the realism that was included. Not everything ends with a happy ending for all. There are some real difficulties through which the characters must work, and I believe that raises the stakes on the spiritual issues raised amongst the characters.

To be honest, my only complaint rests in the fact that this is a typical frontier romance in more ways than not. With the exception of the points raised, this is what is expected. Thankfully, the author is a great writer who makes you care about the characters and what happens to them, but at the end of the day, it is pretty standard fare. That doesn't make it bad; on the contrary, I have no major issues with an author choosing to go this route. Since this is the first book in the series, I would hope that future books would include a lot more excitement and intriguing situations. But if you are looking for a Christian frontier romance to make you feel cozy on those cold, winter evenings, this definitely fits the bill!

Not your typical old west romance story

I like reading stories set in the old west. I want my men to be Men. I want the women to be a lady but can bend and stand to the challenges. My very favorite western author is Louis L'amour. And in some ways , this book reminded of reading one of his stories. Taking the time to set a scene so you can see it. Not rushing the characters. I would put my Kindle down to do something and I'd be reading again.

The period is circa 1830. The setting is the Great Plains. A woman and her father are headed even further west because her father desires to see the mountains. They are following the Lewis & Clark trail. At the moment they meet four men, they are alone. They didn't plan it that way.

Somehow the author makes this all believable. And the setting for romance is slowly woven into the story. I'd like to have know these men. I wonder what Caleb's story is? What made him leave, apparently suddenly, and strike west with these men.

This is a Christian and clean read but the handling of both is done softly. With love and tenderness. This is the first book in the series and available on Kindle Unlimited as is the second book. I highly recommend this one. Although the writer does occasionally make you think the timeline of a scene is incorrect. A key piece is dropped in at the end of the scene. Most readers would never notice it. Just bugs the few like me who do. Yes, I definitely have found a new author to follow.

What I think you should know:
Freedom in the Mountain Wind is a historical Christian romance. It is the first book in the Call of the Rockies series by Misty M Beller. When Susanna and her Father start out on an epic adventure to follow Lewis and Clark’s travels they don’t expect to end up alone in the wilderness. After being abandoned in the wilderness by their guides Susanna is determined to continue their journey.

What you might want to know:
Susanna’s father is dying, the story includes him coughing up blood and symptoms of his illness.

What I think about:
I am a HUGE fan of Beller, I love her stories and how she is able to transport you back in time, I always feel like I am a part of her story and this one is no exception. The concept of the story is so unique, I wonder how many fathers would have been willing to take their daughter on such a journey. I loved how brave Susanna was and how willing she was to learn in order to not be a burden to Beaver Tail and his friends that help her along her journey. Beaver Tail was a great male lead, he brought a depth to the story and a natural way for Beller to weave in Faith. I really enjoyed the supporting characters and hope that we will see more of them in the rest of the series.

I listened to this as an audiobook and enjoyed it. It is a historical romance and I found it quite interesting. I have not read many books about travellers going into the Rocky Mountains at this time in history. Misty M. Beller did a good job of writing this book and mixing the roughness of the trail with the kindness of the characters. Suzanna and Beaver Tail were believable characters which made the story much more enjoyable. Suzanna's father is dying and she is determined to give her father his last wish even though she is unsure as to how she will do it. When Beaver Tail finds them she is extremely grateful to him and that God sent him to them when He did. At the start, she was a little wary of him but she began to trust him and eventually love Beaver Tail.

Beaver Tail can not in good conscience leave Suzanna and her Father when he does not know how they will survive. As he and his friends take care of them he begins to learn about God and becomes a believer. As Mr. Dashwood says "If the main character is a girl, make sure she is married by the end. Or dead. Either Way." This book sticks with this thought and I can assure you Suzanna does not die. I look forward to reading the rest of the books in this series.

Susanna Wilkins agrees with her father desire to travel along Lewis and Clark’s trail to the Rockies. Even though he is dying, she wants to fulfill his wish. When he gets even sicker, a group of men, including one Indian, agree to travel with them and help.

Beaver Tail doesn’t want anything to do with another woman, but his friends agree she and her father need help. So he helps. And discovers this woman may not be like the one who treated him badly.

Misty Beller once again takes her readers on a beautiful journey as we travel with these folks into the mountains. I enjoyed every minute. Recommended.

Freedom in the mountain wind

Susanna is traveling with her sick father. They were in need of a travel guide. Beaver Tail happens to come along and ends up traveling with them. Beaver also has a couple of other guys with him. Susanna wasn’t sure about joining up with them.

The wilderness is made of wildlife and one of those is snakes. Susanna was really scare of them. I don’t blame her for that though. Susanna was the best caregiver for her father but also ends helping others.

I love reading historical books and the author does write some good ones. This is book one of a new series, I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Misty M Beller has once again written a wonderful book with Freedom in the Mountain Wind. I was excited to have the opportunity to read the beginning of her new series, Call of the Rockies. Her talent shines through in this story. Right from the start I felt like I was right there on the journey with Susannah, her father and Beaver Tail. The book is full of adventure and emotions that I had to keep the tissues close by. I loved the interactions between Beaver Tail and Susannah. It was so sweet and tender as they learned more about one another.

I give Freedom in the Mountain Wind five plus stars. Readers who enjoy well written, clean and sweet historical fiction will love this one. I look forward to continuing the next installment from the Call of the Rockies. I can not wait to find out what happens next.

If Ms. Beller was a baseball player, she hit another one out of the park.  Her writing style draws me right in.  I become part of her story.

Susanna and her father shared a special bond.  She wanted to fulfill her father's dreams.  In the process, she was making her own dreams come true.

Beaver Tail was on the trail assisting his friend.  But he learned valuable lessons that changed his life forever.

The mountains were calling her name.  Beaver Tail was opening her heart.

When God Directs a Google Search…

I’m a history lover, but you may have guessed that since I write historical romance stories. 😊 Most of my books are set in the Rocky Mountains during the mid-1800s, but as I began brainstorming ideas for this new series, my heart became drawn earlier to the earlier part of the century—a time period with which I wasn’t quite as familiar with the history.

I love when God orchestrates even the most mundane part of our lives, including Google searches! During one particular search (I can’t even remember what I was originally looking for), I stumbled across part of a journal entry from the Lewis and Clark expedition, which trekked across Montana during the time period I was looking into. I’d forgotten that expedition had even entered the territory that would later become Montana, but now I was fascinated.

After finding an audiobook of the abridged journals of Lewis and Clark, I happily listened to almost 19 hours of fascinating stories from the Corp of Exploration’s journey up the Missouri River and across the mountains to the Pacific Ocean, then back mostly the over the same path they’d come. The stories the men told were so amazing, and the detail of their trials so absorbing, I’ve actually re-listened to the audiobook twice! Many of the true tales wouldn’t be believable in fiction, but as I listened, my mind formed the premise for Freedom in the Mountain Wind: a father/daughter duo who sets out almost two decades after Lewis and Clark’s journey, determined to retrace the steps of that famous expedition.

I hope you enjoy this story as much as I loved writing it! And whether you’re a history lover or not, I pray that you too will be touched by this “epic journey through breathless landscapes and adventure so intense, lives will never be the same.”

Good story but

The story was good until she started talking about accepting God into your heart. Salvation is not your decision, it is God’s. If you make the decision you take all the glory of salvation away from God and give it to yourself, committing the awful sin of pride in yourself. The Bible is quite clear that you receive God’s salvation by the miracle of regeneration, you don’t accept it by some decision you make.

Setting: Montana territory, 1830. The wildness and adventure of the land is portrayed well, as well as the awe-inspiring nature of the mountains, plains, etc. The trail of Lewis and Clark is referenced often, easily pinpointing the time. Indians and traders/trappers from European nations are also part of the story.

However, the stunning portrayal of the physical landscape overwhelm the practical and natural lifestyle that both Beaver Tail and Susanna would have grown up in. All propriety goes out the window, of course, but not only that, it is not made clear what Susanna is used to, and what is a learning experience. Is she strong? Comfortable with camping under open air? Good at fishing? Able to hunt? So little context is given for the prior lives of the Wilkins'. Likewise, the Indian life of Beaver Tail is mostly ignored. Why does he not believe in the Great Spirit? Why is he so ... un-Indian-like? So unsure of himself, so prone to mistakes and blunders? Why are his approaches to courtship and romance so "normal"? The contrast between cultures, whether benign or heathen, is barely addressed.

Characters: Like I mentioned, Beaver Tail is a rather weak character. We get so much of his perspective, so we see all his doubts, insecurities, and incapabilities, but we miss out on some of the core character development points. And his thoughts and feelings were awfully feminine.

I liked Wilkins. The rest of the men, mainly Caleb, are sorely underdeveloped. Especially in the case of Caleb, as one key aspect of his character is not revealed until way too late.

Susanna is a fine character, as female leads go, although again, there's one or two personality traits that should have been introduced much earlier in order to land a more significant impact at the end. I did like her increasing ability to read Beaver's Tail's quiet emotions.

Plot: So thoroughly a romance, most of the writing is focused either on the beautiful scenery or the emotions Susanna and Beaver Tail have for each other--so much so that practical matters (like why are they in Montana, anyway? And what's the deal with Beaver Tail's family? Isn't that important at all?) are all but ignored. The Christian aspect is not even introduced, as best I can remember, until about halfway through--and then it's made into a big deal.

The pacing was pretty good, though, and it kept my interest pretty consistently.

Faith Element: Certainly a piece of Christian fiction, as the characters are Christians, and prayers are made relatively frequently. It takes a while, but eventually the faith of the characters becomes a prominent issue. No vices of any kind are really portrayed through any of the characters; all these (presumably) rugged men are the picture of gentility around a young unmarried woman; no smoking, no swearing, no prejudice, no heathen rituals, nothing to disturb Susanna's sensibilities, except that a bunch of men bend over backwards to help her out, and yet except nothing in return.

So, in all, a mite unrealistic. It's too bad I didn't enjoy it more, since I have liked this author in the past.

Misty M. Beller has yet to disappoint me! I love how each of her books comes with a remarkable setting, and Freedom in the Mountain Wind is no different. The majestic country of the Rocky Mountains is painted beautifully and inspires the common thread of freedom throughout the story. I enjoyed retracing the steps of Louis and Clark with Susanna and Beaver Tail as they hiked around the falls of the Missouri river, wondered at the large herds of bison, and stared into the magnificent peaks of the Rocky Mountains. I love how you felt right beside them the entire journey.
Just like with other Misty M. Beller books, I fell in love with the characters right away. She has a way of creating such depth to her characters, and there is not a single exception in this book. Susanna is an amazing woman--so strong and full of love for others. I adored the relationship she had with her father and how they both yearned for adventure together.
Beaver Tail is a quiet man, but his heart speaks for itself. A protector. Loyal. Not to mention strong and handsome. He is a swoon-worthy hero, although his humble attitude and gentle nature may make him a little atypical. I loved following him and Susanna on their short journeys away from the camp when he would teach her about the land and its furry or scaly inhabitants. Their romance was so genuine sigh-inducing. I just adored watching them grow closer throughout their journey.
The rest of their group--Joel, French and Caleb--were also well crafted and oh, so memorable. I wait to get to know them all even more in future books! I’ll be waiting for the second book to release!
Freedom in the Mountain Wind is full of many journeys both physical and spiritual. It will tug at your heartstrings and make you yearn for a taste of the freedom the characters experience as they travel through a magnificent and dangerous wilderness.
Overall, I loved this book and would recommend it to anyone who loves Christian historical fiction, especially those stories set in the West.

I have enjoyed every book that I have read that was written by Misty Beller. and"Freedom in the Mountain Wind" is another book that I liked. Her books are clean romance along with detailed and actual descriptions of the wilderness and dangers that were part of the time period in these novels. There are even scenes involving animals attack, yes, I admit I didn't mind reading about these attacks, but if I was watching them in a movie, I would have different feelings and want them to be toned down. But, in books, these scenes let the readers know what the characters are really feeling and going through.

I like that even with Mr. Wilkins illness, he is still a Godly father and doesn't back down from his Christian beliefs.
This book is so real, it shows that everything doesn't always end with a happy everafter for all. Yes, the tears will fall if you cry at scenes you read. I am not ashamed to admit that I do, it just shows that the authors writes them so well that the reader can actually see them happening instead of just reading the words.

This is the first book in this series, and I already wanting to read the other books that are coming.

The love between Susanna Wilkins and her father is something you didn't really see and heard about very much. I admire Susanna for enduring the dangers and the sacrifices to make her father's dream too see the untamed wilds of the Rocky Mountains.

The only thing I disliked about this story was the father's illness was lung cancer. You will have to read the book to see if he is cured or not. I think the fact that lung cancer was part of the story is another fact that makes the book more factual for me, because both my mother-law and mother died from lung cancer. So I actually could relate to Mr Wilkins and Susanna.

I was amazed that the Beaver Tail and the men he traveled with so willing to be heroes.

I don't think I have a favorite character in this story, I liked them all and really wish these characters were not fictional but were my friends.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK 

I am so happy and honored that I could read and review the starting of this new series by Misty Beller. I love her books, and have read them all! In Freedom in the Mountain Wind, we follow Susanna Wilkins as she honors her Pa’s one last dream of exploring the wilds of the Rocky Mountains going the same route as Lewis and Clark. But would they be able to finish this fantastic but dangerous trip?

This was one of my favorite books that Ms. Beller has written. It is such a sweet and heartwarming story. The love between Susanna and her Pa runs so deep, it was a real pleasure reading the experience through the vivid descriptions. The characters in this story are such an amazing group, willing to help in every way, making them seem so realistic. Misty Beller does a phonomial job of researching the facts and then writing this story. The vivid descriptions of the exquisite scenes along the way makes this book one of the most colorful discriptive stories I’ve read. I’m not sure how I would survive in those wild Rocky Mountains, I’m not much for the wild animals and the food, but I would sure love to see the beautiful scenery. There is so much going on, so many emotions to deal with, so much work to be done to survive. And all of the guys were amazing, but Beaver Tail is my favorite. His knowledge of the land, his personality, sweet heart, all drew him to me more than the others. And I appreciate the way the author weaves in the Gospel, explains how to become a Christian, but does it in a subtle sweet way. If you enjoy a good clean, exciting, story within the wild Rocky Mountain trails, you will love this one!!

Freedom in the Mountain Wind is the first book in the Call of the Rockies series by Misty M. Beller, and already I cannot wait for book 2. Having read several of this author's books, I eagerly anticipated the beginning of this new series. I was thoroughly enchanted by Freedom in the Mountain Wind. It is a beautiful and captivating story of unexpected love. It is also a story of the importance of being able to trust others--sometimes even strangers--when help is needed. The writing style is graceful and flows smoothly as the author tells Susanna and Beaver Tail's story. The author has beautifully crafted her characters-- Susanna, strong and full of spunk and determination. Beaver Tail, a rugged Indian mountain man, whose history with females keeps him aloof. And the friends Beaver Tail is traveling with, add a great dimension to the story and the relationships depicted. The author portrays such a sweet and loving father-daughter connection with their closeness and their care for one another. Watching the relationship between Susanna and Beaver Tail morph and change throughout the story kept my interest. I was often wondering where things were going to end up as they encountered so many struggles, harrowing struggles--terminal illness, a raging grass fire, encounters with wild animals, and so much more. Strong characters that are so likable, realistic situations, wonderfully descriptive scenes all work together for a delightful story and threaded throughout the book is a faith in God--the God who alone can bring comfort and strength in the difficult times. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more of Ms. Beller's books.

All historical fiction readers please pay attention. There is a new book out that you must read. This story is rich in history and adventure with land that only God could have made. The author is superb in making the story come to life and make you feel you are part of it. I loved reading how determined Susanna is in making her father's dying wish come true. I worried that he would not make it as his health deteriorated. The terrain was rough and dangerous. I could here the bears off in the distance as they cried out to their cubs. I envisioned Susanna on her journey and she explores the land and hears the waterfall off in the distance. i love waterfalls and think they are soothing and a sign of God's beauty.

Beaver Tail is an honorable man who stumbles upon Susanna and her father. It is clear they need help and I admired his strength and gentle spirit. The adventure really starts as they begin their long journey. At first he is not sure he wants to continue helping them but the more he is around Susanna the more he finds himself wanting to help. I really liked how the author took two people from different cultures and placed them together to show how everyone can get along. Susanna's father shares his faith with Beaver Tail and I began to wonder if his heart would soften to God's love. There is no lack of danger as they come upon snakes, bears and other animals in the forest.

The story is very clean and has a nice spiritual aspect that flows throughout the book. It details how people work together and perhaps find love along the way. Will Susanna's father make it to his destination? Can Beaver Tail find happiness with Susanna? Don't miss this exciting new series that is filled with a bit of danger and lives that are changed forever.

My review today is on the Christian Western Novel, Freedom in the Mountain Wind. This is the first book in the Call of the Rockies Series. This book was awesome, I couldn't put it down. I'm recuperating from pneumonia so I could really relate to Thad Wilkins. The problem with not being able to put the book down is that it's over too fast and now I have to wait forever for Misty's next book. This book is well written, action packed, and will break your heart at times. You will love it.

Susanna Wilkins and her father are following the Lewis and Clark trail. Her father has lung cancer and his only wish is to see the mountains. Their guide, the third one leaves them stranded but they are rescued by an Indian named Beaver Tail. He helps them part way up the five waterfalls and goes for his friend to help them. They never could have made it without his help and his friends but Susanna seems to be falling for the man.

Beaver Tail is a half breed. His father was English and left him, his mother, and his three sisters years ago. He has had a bad experience with women and wants nothing to do with this beauty but is drawn to her like a magnet. He comes to really respect Thad Wilkins. He wished he could have known a father like him. His friends are looking for one of their brothers but they come with Beaver to help this couple. They are after all protectors and these people really need a protector. It's obvious that Mr. Wilkins is very ill.

A journey of horrifying adventures in the wilderness. God has a plan for this little group, a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too. A good plan and not for evil, give Him your heart and watch Him guide your steps.

If you enjoy adventure novels with a frontier setting along with a touch of romance, then Freedom in the Mountain Wind just might be for you. A story about a young woman who sets out on a journey to the Rocky Mountains with her dying father to fulfill his last wish to see the mountains. Neither of them expected the trip to be so arduous or for his health to fail so quickly. Just when Susanna thought they would no longer be able to go on, they encounter a young Indian man who agrees to help portage their boat past the waterfall. His act of unexpected friendship encourages Susanna to continue their journey.

The well paced plot and vivid descriptions of the vast wilderness makes the story a pleasure to read. Susanna and Beaver Tail’s story is filled with hardship, dangers, friendship, compassion, romance, and a beautiful story of salvation. A grizzly encounter as well as other accidents leaves more than one character injured and even fighting for their life.

I was so impressed by the way these three strangers took Susanna and her father under their wings and abandoned their own plans to protect them and help them reach their goal. The author brought out the tenderness in these rough men in such a way that it was perfectly believable. I could say so much more but I’ll leave it to you to discover the depths of this most excellent novel by a very talented author. I will definitely be reading more books by Misty M. Beller!

Freedom in the Mountain Win, Book 1 in Call of the Rockies Series by author Misty M. Beller is wonderful Christian Historical Romance Fiction. Set in 1830 it begins with the tale of Susanna Wilkins and her father trekking across the wilderness in the same places as famous explorers Lewis and Clark. Many guides have left them to fare for themselves.

Susanna is determined to see the adventure through for her father. His health is rapidly declining as lung cancer overtakes his body. Beaver Tail crosses their path and comes to their aid. He is a rugged, strong, compassionate man. All of the characters are realistic, well rounded, and capable of surviving in the wilderness.

Author Beller has such a imaginative way with words that she can whisk readers out of their chairs and into the wilds. The sights, sounds, and thrills are realistically depicted in her words. This author is an extremely talented wordsmith! I was invested at the very beginning and enjoyed every twist and turn of this page turning book.

One of my favorite things about Author Beller’s book is that faith and God are not hidden. She boldly puts them out in the open so no interpretation is necessary. Life lessons on faith, hope, trust, love, forgiveness and second Chances are woven into this moving novel.

I highly recommend this fabulous story. It is captivating and will take your breath away in parts. A copy was provided by Celebrate Lit but these are my honest words. I rate it 5 out of 5 stars and eagerly await Book 2.
