Relatively short, but well written, volume 2 was an entertaining read. Some character development, mostly on Lud's side who is confronted rather harshly with his own motivation for becoming a baker. Sven on the other hand is not making all that much progress with her plan to conquer Lud's heart, if only because Lud is clearly avoiding making a decision on this.

Mind you, it does come with the for this kind of story somewhat odd extreme tropes of a romcom such as the tsundere and Sven's rather cringe obsession, nor is the basic plot all that original. Sven at least has the excuse of not being human, but Sophia doesn't. Personally I don't mind too much in these amounts, but it does negatively impact my enjoyment to some extent.

Finally, basing the world on RL Europe WW1 to at least some extent (even if the winners of said war are different) is one thing, but at least change names more than say Europea or Parise. It distracted me from the story to some extent. Granted, it might actually be an alternative Earth, but if you change some names, why not change all names?

O well, it was a good, if somewhat short, read.

So, my curiosity won over reason and I ended up buying some more volumes...
My thoughts on The Combat Baker and Automaton Waitress: Volume 2

The story:
Following the events of the last volume, our protagonist is invited to one of the most important parties of the country (obviously he is invited to make the bread), once there he meets with an old acquittance, and then there is a terrorist attack at the party...

Enjoyment:
This book felt like a mission impossible movie, I really liked the series because of the relaxed atmosphere of running a bakery. This volume was full-on action and even though it was not what I expected I still ended up liking it a lot and enjoying it.

The verdict:
Even though this volume had almost no focus on running the bakery the story was very good and enjoyable and at the end of the day, everything was solved because of bread so no problem with the bread part of the book. I'll be sure to read more of this series in the future. 7/10
