Ace's Wild #3

Rushing In

Rate this book
I finally have a chance to team up with Bradley, the hot fellow police officer that I’ve been longing to get closer to. Somehow, I haven’t scared him off, even with my awkward flirting and my father telling him that I mimed giving birth to a cat as a child. When we get a call about a missing college student, I’m eager for the chance to work a case with Bradley, especially when we realize that there might be something more going on. But Bradley and I are determined to figure it out together, even if it means that I have to walk through an adult shop with him by my side. It’s not my fault that the store owners think he’s a stripper with his tight uniform. Okay, maybe that’s just what I was hoping for. A man can dream, right?

Spending time with Bradley is better than I ever imagined. He’s sweet, funny, and goes along with just about anything I say or do. It doesn’t help that I have a problem of rushing into situations without thinking them through, like the death ride on his motorcycle. But when we go to Ace’s Wild to see if we can find out more about the missing person, I learn something new about Bradley that could help me get closer to him. And the book I buy might give me some insight if I would actually read it instead of just looking at the pictures. When he asks me out, I realize that maybe I’m not the only one who wants more. Here’s hoping I don’t scare him off with the location of our second date!

Rushing In is 41k words of humor, snark, action, romance, and the kind of restaurant you don’t want to tell your mom about.

**Rushing In is part of a multi-author series of books that take place in the same fictional town. Each story can be read in any order. The connecting element in the Ace's Wild series is an adult store owned by Ace and Wilder. The main characters from each book will make at least one visit to Ace's Wild, where they'll buy a toy to use in their story! The only characters who cross over to each book are Ace and Wilder. And with various heat levels, there's sure to be something for everyone!

She's not everyone's cuppa, but Alice Winters makes me laugh. Yes, it is OTT stuff that would not happen in real life, but that's okay with me. Nothing OTT happens in the real world, right?

This is a cute, silly, funny, and sometimes ridiculous romance with a little mystery thrown in there. Clyde, our hero is a cop who has a crush on another cop and finally gets to work a case with him. Let the awkwardness begin!!

The best part is that Clyde gets the mistaken idea that his crush is into BDSM and tries really hard to try to seem "cool with it". Clyde is awkward enough just talking to the guy, but add in trying to subtly bring up BDSM? Yeah. It went as well as to be expected.

So, it's not a rocket scientist manual, but for silly diversion these days? I'll take it!

This is my second attempt at reading Alice Winters's work, and I am afraid to say this author's writing is not my cup of tea. I finished it, barely. There were moments that made me chuckle but for the most part the overabundance of mean humor made me dislike the characters immensely. There was a serious talk between the MCs that gave me a chance to regard them as more than a bad joke but it was swiftly ruined by unkind banter. The case made me mildly curious, and the kink part of the book was amusing. As for the rest I couldn't wait for the story to be over. I am sorry to say but this is my last time reading their work. It's just one of those things - this author is not for me. That said, the story is not bad, and other people loved it. This is all me, personal. Sorry for bad review.

DNF at 20%

I usually give myself till 30% but I couldn’t for this 😫 I just do not find it funny or appealing. Maybe 2020 is no humour Darien but this tries too hard at being funny and just ends up being awkward for everybody.

Despite me liking every book I’ve read from this author. I’ve put off reading this one. The reviews were mixed to say the least. With a couple of dnf’s thrown in there as well. But I wanted a lighter read so I decided to give it a try.

I enjoyed it. Tentatively at first. But once it got going I was hooked. As for their second date. Unfortunately it was 1am when I reached this point. I woke my hubby with laughing so much and had to put my kindle down. I just couldn’t read anymore.

So yes I enjoyed this book.

*** DNF @ 20% ***

Thought I'd give a new-to-me author a shot, but this fizzled for me fast.

The humor, that may have worked well in a visual medium (t.v or a movie) where you can see the characters' facial expressions and body language, just didn't translate to the page. The pacing of the story seemed off, and I wasn't really connecting with either of the MCs.

"I grin at him because I'm going to blow his mind when he realizes where we're going. He's going to fall in love with me on the spot and realize there's no one better for him than me, besides the thousands of other people who are richer, nicer, and probably don't show up to a date coated in cat hair."

"I start laughing, fully aware that I'll laugh at anything he says as long as he's the one saying it. His words are like music to my ears."

Alice Winters has done it again and brought us another fantastic couple! When I was offered an ARC of this to review, I simply said:

I may be a little obsessed with her books but with good reason. I have yet to read a story by her that doesn't make me laugh and fill me with feels. Her couples always have the best banter and snark and crazy chemistry. The side characters are always enjoyable too and often try and steal the show. I just feel so happy when I read one of her books. Rushing In was no exception.

"Rushing In," is book three in the multi-author series, "Ace's Wild." It can be easily read by itself. The only thing each story has in common is that the characters in each book all take a trip to an adult store called...wait for it...Ace's Wild. And if you're thinking that, because this is an Alice Winters book, the trip to the store in this one will be hilarious...you'd be right.

The book or novella really is about Clyde, a police officer. He's had a crush on fellow officer Bradley for ages but hasn't been able to make a move. When Bradley is assigned as his new partner, Clyde thinks he might have a chance. That is, if he can survive riding on Bradley's death machine (motorcycle), a BDSM restaurant, lots of cat hair and his police officer Dad doing his best to embarrass him to death!

I loved this story and wished it was longer so I could spend more time with Clyde, Bradley and Clyde's dad!

ARC provided by author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

Last read of the year 2019

With this author you can always expect her characters to be a little out there lol. Clyde was no different.
He has been crushing on one of his coworkers and a retirement party allows him the opportunity to make a move. Too bad his flirting skills are more on the horribly entertaining side. Lucky for him Bradley happens to like his type of flirting. The two hit it off.
While this goes on they are also working together to solve a case. Which I liked and was slightly more entertained and invested in.

This was a fun, quick, read that did have me laughing out loud a few times. If you're a fan of Alice Winters' style of banter you'll have a good time with this sweet romance.

Although numbered Ace's Wild #3, it's a standalone story, as are all the Ace's Wild books, so you can pick and choose how you read through the series.

Loved this one, I laughed so hard!

I've missed Alice Winter's humour since I finished Leland's books and this was just perfect for my sense of humour.

DNF ~50%

This was excruciating, and frankly, it's a miracle I managed 50% of this novella before I threw in the towel. My first book by this author, and if this is what all of her writing is like, than I can say pretty definitively that it is NOT for me. Overly-involved father with a creepy-close relationship to his son the MC, and so much OTT banter, it caused me physical pain to read. Do people actually enjoy this nonsense? Like crack!fic but with no self-awareness .

This was my first Alice Winters book and I can definitely see why her brand of humor wouldn't be for everyone. There were quite a few funny moments and witty comebacks, but it was a bit much at times. When every line said by every main character is a witty one-liner, it feels less authentic. I still enjoyed it though, and I think maybe if there had been a few more quiet moments I'd have connected more. We started to get some with the love interest's backstory, but it was over too quickly. Maybe one of Winter's longer books can offer more balance.

I struggled to finish this book. It isn't funny at all, there was an overabundance of humour, trying too hard to be funny but ending in being only eyes rolling, ridiculous and annoying. I skimmed a lot I still found it painful to read. A big no.
I'll try to read something else by this author, for now I'm not impressed, probably just not my cup of tea

A Joyfully Jay review.

Rushing In is part of the Ace’s Wild series, a collection of stand alone books by different authors that all feature the same local sex shop. The stories are only connected in that each couple visits the shop, and the owners are the only recurring characters, so you can read any of the books on their own and in any order. In this case, the store is incorporated in a nice way as the guys visit Ace’s Wild as part of their investigation. But they also end up stirring some things up when Clyde sees Bradley buy a book that sparks some interesting (and crazy) adventures between them.

As with many of Winters’ books, this story combines the romance with an investigative storyline. The missing persons case develops into more, and the men struggle as they know there is a bigger picture they just aren’t quite seeing. I will say that things are pretty low key here in terms of the law enforcement storyline and there really isn’t much suspense or intensity. The investigation felt mostly like a vehicle to get these guys together, and I had trouble feeling really invested in the outcome. There are some nice messages about being true to yourself, but while the men make clear to those involved in the case that they are in danger, I didn’t really feel the urgency here and there is not much suspense.

This was a laugh out loud, fun book. Such witty, and downright funny, banter! Clyde is seriously so adorable. I loved him and his dad, what a terrific relationship they have.
Rushing In had a little of everything to love, honestly. Endearing characters, a sweet love story, and a mystery that tugged at my heart.
I really enjoyed how Ms. Winters balanced Clyde and Bailey's working relationship, and their current case, with the light-hearted fun of their growing personal relationship.
And I liked the way the side story with Tanner and Jamal was incorporated, and how Bailey and Clyde handled things with them.
This was overall just a truly delightful story! Another one that I wouldn't mind if Ms. Winters decided to expand on and give us more of Clyde's unfiltered antics!

***Although this is part of the Ace's Wild series, these are true standalones and can be read in any order.

This was a sugary sweet type of book. The author did warn of the joking banter that this book would have, I guess I didn’t think that the whole book would be that. All of the dialog was this joking type banter. ALL OF IT. Which for me made the story not really believable. I love a sweet story, and good banter is my jam, but this was a tad too much for me.
Other than that, the writing was good. Looking forward to the next book

Read this one straight after the previous, so a bit of an eye opener and its loud on the humour. Clyde and Bradley are a silly couple and its great. No dual POV for this one but a lot of Ace's Wild, embarrassing parents and a more serious theme on the job. The bike parts had me in stitches.

Sexy and hilarious

3.5

This is another story in the Aces Wild series for charity. As usual, Alice Winters gives us a big dose of sweet, sexy, and sometimes over the top humor.

Clyde and Bradley work together as cops and Clyde has a huge crush on Bradley. We get lots of banter between these two guys and Clyde's dad, who also works at the same police station.

"I am hopefully better at riding a cock than a bike. Don’t quote me on that. Really, don’t. I might actually be worse.”

If you're in the mood for a funny heartfelt book, then this one's for you. I had a smile on my face the whole time 😁

This book was so freaking funny! Right from the beginning I couldn't stop laughing and smiling. The humor was spot on, the banter fantastic, and the story was so much fun. I loved everything about this book. It has left me with the biggest book high and I know I'll be re-reading this over and over. If you love a lot of humor with your romances, plus some seriously sexy m/m, then I wholeheartedly recommend this book!
