A cute read like the rest of the series. Though I did not like it as much as some of the others. Less of Never Land and magic in this one. I did like that Vidia’s character got a bit more depth to her but wish it had been taken just a tad bit further. I also liked that this one stared sporty Kate and soccer took a bit of a front seat. It is nice for the sporty natured kiddos. I love that this series has main characters with differing interests and personalities so so many kiddos can see themselves represented throughout the series. Used this as a read aloud and both kids loved it but also agreed that it was not their favorite of the series. Neither of them are into sports and that lack of connection probably had a lot to do with that. Overall a cute and solid Never Girl’s read.
I was not a very big fan of this book.....mainly because I don’t like reading about fairy lands and things of that degree. Just to be clear I think the book was written very well and a good story, it’s just not what I prefer to read. The concept of this book in the series is a girl or girls a group of friends who discover fairies and go on many adventures. I would recommend this book to little girls under the age of 13 or so. But overall I think the book was good, but I prefer to read more mature books for my age.
105 pages. This time Kate uses fairy dust to improve her soccer game. Lainey loses the dog she is watching for a neighbor and Kate tries to find him using the magic dust. All kinds of trouble ensues and lots of drama follows. Highly recommended for Grades 3-5.
This is the 12th release in the Never Girls series that I've been reading with my daughter at bedtime and it is another winner for Fiona. This one finds the character of Kate having to decide to use fairy dust in a soccer game or not. Good read for the kiddoes!
Another fabulous adventure with the Never Girls. I always appreciate the lessons being taught by these books and the way my six year old relates to the stories.
Syd, age 6, review: “I would give it 5 stars because it was epic! Because instead of catching the ball, she caught the dog! And it was funny and filled with soccer and flying! Funny!”
When Kate takes a flying leap in soccer she gets part in goalie she needs to get more fairy dust. When a dog gets missing ,can Kate handle two things at once?
This is a sweet series, especially good for very advanced young readers. The writing is great and features a varied vocabulary, but the content is light and appropriate for little ones.
They're not my favorite characters (Dulcie is mine and Gabby Adora's) but somehow the books that star Kate and Vidia (or Kate and Peter Pan, who is similarly reckless) end up being the most engaging. This book in no exception. Not as good as the one with the mist horses or the other with Peter Pan (which Vidia wasn't in) this book proves once again that Kate and Vidia are great foils for each other. At once very similar but also very different. Both brave, adventurous and reckless but Kate is tempered by the strong bond she shares with her friends that ground her and give her a bit of a conscience. When faced with the decision whether to use fairy dust to "help" with her soccer game Kate ends up accidentally causing her friends trouble and has to rectify it before they find out she has brought fairy dust from Neverland or that she is even considering cheating. Vidia shows up because she is Vidia.
