On an abandoned Imperial cruiser, a mercy mission turns to a desperate struggle for survival as alien enemies close in on a squad of Battle Sisters.
READ IT BECAUSE Discover an early adventure for Augusta, hero of The Bloodied Rose, in which she learns of one of the manifold horrors the galaxy holds, and is tested to her very limits.
THE STORY The Imperial cruiser Santa Xenia hangs silent in the void, abandoned and lifeless. Or so it seems… Sister Augusta and her squad, Battle Sisters from the Order of the Bloody Rose, investigate the stricken hulk, but it seems that their search for survivors fruitless – until an ambush is sprung. Xenos foes infest the once-noble ship, and the Adepta Sororitas' mission turns from one of rescue to simple survival as monstrous enemies close in.

A tense "Sisters of Battle" story, where Sister Augusta and her squad delve into an Ecclesiarchal Cruiser. While trying to figure out why the vessel is abandoned, Augusta's fate in the Emperor falters, right when she needs His guidance the most.
This needed to be a "Warhemmer Horror" story. The atmosphere of the whole thing is done masterfully and kept me on the edge of my seat. Using the Battle hymn as a common thread throughout the story and adding some Latin for good measure really stipulates the Battle-Nun vibe of the "Adepta Sororitas ". Top this off with an old lore reference in the climax and you've got a story that I enjoyed enormously. I'm ordering Servants of the Imperium right now so I can read some more of Danie Ware's work.
A close look at the struggle between faith and despair in a common Sister of Battle. The horrors she faces are well described and it proved an exciting read.
A tale of Sister Augusta's rookie years, and shows how tough she is, getting lost on a derelict ship and meeting a nasty xenos for the first time. Good stuff.
Danie Ware’s third Adepta Sororitas story, thisfeatures a younger version of Sister Augusta as she and her Sisters search for survivors in the darkness of a drifting Ecclesiarchy vessel. When the sepulchral quiet is shattered by alien ambush, Augusta finds herself cut off from her Sisters and lost deep in the bowels of the ship.
Beautifully balancing action and introspection, it’s tense, claustrophobic, insightful and instantly engaging, reinforcing the reputation that Ware is developing for writing powerful, impactful Adepta Sororitas stories.
Danie Ware is making the characters of the Sisters of Battle her own prior to the release of the army... a slow affair from GW following much fan request. In this story one of the Sisters is separated from her squad, and her bolter and must survive against the Orks.
“He was everywhere. As the squad moved down another metal stairway, past another layer of hatches and vents, so they raised His name and His presence walked with them...even here, down in the depths of this great, steel sepulchre.”
