American humorist best known for his long-running column of political satire and commentary that he wrote in The Washington Post, which was syndicated in over 500 newspapers. He wrote more than 30 books. He received the Pulitzer Prize for Outstanding Commentary in 1982. In 1991 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
Another brilliant collection from the funniest man of the '70s. After reading a few of his books, it's interesting how one begins to notice a pattern in his writing. It doesn't reveal the biting sarcasm one usually comes to expect from satire but rather an almost child-like outlook on the events of the day (Although his pictures with the cigars and horn-rimmed glasses on the book covers give one the initial impression that he'll be to prose what Gilbert Gottfried is to stand up comedy).
Art Buchwald was one of the more interesting political columnists in the 1960's and 1970's. I used to snicker at his attacks on the Nixon Whitehouse era.
