Harriet's friend George teases and taunts Harriet about riding the roller coaster at the amusement park. Harriet says she isn't afraid to ride the roller coaster, but the night before her trip to the amusement park, she didn't sleep very well. What will happen when it comes time to face her hidden fears?

“Harriet and the Roller Coaster” is another book from Nancy Carlson starring Harriet and George and this time, Harriet tries to prove to George that she is not afraid of the big roller coaster in the amusement park, but she must conquer her fear of the roller coaster. “Harriet and the Roller Coaster” is a fantastic book for children who are trying to conquer their own fears and many children will cherish this book for many years.

Nancy Carlson has done a great job at both illustrating and writing this book. Nancy Carlson’s story about Harriet conquering her fear of the big roller coaster can easily relate to children who also feared a certain obstacle in their lives and how they try to conquer it. Nancy Carlson’s illustrations are cute and creative as she once again makes her characters have animal bodies and yet they walk and act like humans. The image that stood out the most was the image of the big roller coaster itself as it has many twists and turns that makes it look truly frightening.

“Harriet and the Roller Coaster” is the perfect book for children who want to read books about conquering your fears and children will easily fall in love with this book. I would recommend this book to children ages four and up since there is nothing inappropriate in this book.

My Harriet received Harriet and the Roller Coaster as a birthday present since she adores Harriet's Recital. Her birthday book has become an instant favorite which we've read many times.

In this book Harriet seems to be a little older. She's in school now and for a field trip she and her friends are going to an amusement park. George brags to how brave he's going to be on the roller coaster that he scares Harriet to the point that she doesn't want to try it.

Harriet though, as you'll remember from Harriet's Recital, she's capable of over coming her fear even if it does eat her up for an entire night and day. She's no different with the roller coaster. In fact, she gets a chance to one up George but in a good natured and humorous way.

Ah that silly George, such a jerk. This book actually had me laugh out loud at a scene. Sure, it's a kid's book and simple as all can get out, but it's funny too. The author is a delight for young children. George again gets what he deserves as he teases and bullies a friend afraid to ride a roller coaster. When George gets on also, there's funny times to be had.
