Guidance of Young Children
Based on the idea that childhood professionals, like physicians, should first, do no harm, this popular, reader-friendly book exemplifies a positive, constructivist approach to guidance that respects, protects, and helps children become self-responsible, competent, independent, cooperative people who like themselves and have strong values. Content is organized around three styles of caregiving: authoritarian, authoritative, and permissive; and based on a solid understanding of child development. The author never mandates a cookbook of techniques for guiding children; but, encourages readers to use the Decision-Making Model of Child Guidance, a model that evolves from an understanding of a variety of child guidance theories, including those of Piaget, Vygotsky, Rogers, and Adler. For individuals employed and involved, in any capacity, in the guidance and management of young children.

I had to read this for a Guiding Behavior of Young Children class and was fairly impressed with how much this textbook covered in a little over 300 pages. The chapters were easy to follow and reasonable in length. The information was also explained clearly with good examples of what the author was talking about. I enjoyed this as a guide during my fall quarter.

So, full disclosure, I didn't read all of this. It was a textbook for a class I was taking so I only read the chapters that were assigned. However, everything I read was super good and helpful. I definitely recommend it. I also had the online subscription. I found the embedded videos and extra questions interesting and helpful as well.
