Secrets Never Die

Rate this book
Tallie Brown's life has never made any sense. Raised in isolation by her mother, Julia, Tallie was dragged suddenly and without explanation from one third-world outpost to another until life normalized seven years ago when Julia took a position on a mountaintop in the Pacific northwest. But when Julia unexpectedly dies, Tallie uncovers clues suggesting that Julia had a secret life.

Journalistic phenom Jackson James is still recovering from the devastating mistake that flatlined his promising career. Now he's paying the price, working as the editor of a syrupy community rag in a posh D.C. suburb. But when the very man who destroyed him drops a tantalizing lead about a potential D.C. scandal, the reporter sees his chance for redemption and sets off to chase the story.

Jackson's investigation leads him to Cutler's Ridge, a dying Virginia coal town, and directly into the path of the mysterious and beautiful Tallie. As these two mistrustful loners follow their leads, their stories begin to intertwine until they reach an alarming conclusion - something terrible happened in Cutler's Ridge. As they doggedly pursue the story, the town's cold reception spirals into threats and danger, proving that there are those who will stop at nothing to keep the past hidden forever - because secrets never die.

“Secrets Never Die” by author Laurie Lewis is one of the most intricately plotted and perfectly executed novels I’ve ever read. The action and drama hooked me from the first page, and never once did my attention drift. I’m still marveling over how the author was able to keep this very tense, twisty tale on course given all the moving parts. Every character is drawn with a careful hand, bringing a rich texture to this large cast, each with their own mysterious history, adding layer upon layer of intrigue, speculation and ulterior motives. And in the end, each one of their stories fits together like pieces of a puzzle. But I must warn you—once you get started, you won’t want to put this one down! Highly recommend!

Written by new to me author, Secrets Never Die kept me guessing right til the very end.
I even stayed up late finishing it.

A true suspense that had unexpected twists and turns I just didn't see coming.
Chapter by chapter you slowly piece the clues together about Tallie and her mysterious past and why she is so untrusting of anyone ,but this fear she had this fear installed in her by her mother.

After her mother's death she is on a mission to understand where she came from and who she is. Her mother, with her death left so many unanswered question.

A real page turner you will want to read one more page then one more chapter and before you know it the whole book will be read.

I can’t rave about this book enough!

Okay, first off, one of my favorite types of books are suspense novels written kind of like British TV shows. They introduce a bunch of characters, and you don’t know how they relate at first. You don’t know who the bad guy is or what’s going on, but then as you read more you find the pieces fitting together until you finally get a complete picture and—if written well—a satisfying reveal which you only figure out seconds before the author tells all.

The problem is a lot of these type of books have horrendous swearing, graphic violence, and other unsavory parts—which just rub against my sensibilities and often pull be out of the story.

But this book—it’s all of the clever twisty-turns stuff, filled with surprises, but without all the grit. And I loved it!

Characters—they were amazing. Well-developed, believable, varied, surprising, and true to themselves throughout. Very memorable and distinct—which you need in a novel like this.

Plot—oh. my. goodness. This went all over the place, but in a very good way. And toward the end when it all started coming together and you figured out who was what and where and when—amazing!

I rarely email an author directly, but this time I did—and I begged her to keep writing this type of book. (In the past she’s written historical novels and romances.) I hope she listens because it was that good.

There was some violence—kidnappings, deaths, etc.—but they weren’t graphic. No sex. No swearing. Just clever and clean.

If you like suspense and TV shows like Broadchurch and Lewis, you’ll love this book. I recommend it to readers 14 and older and give it the full 5 STARS.

When Tallie Brown's mother (Julia) dies in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest in Washington Tallie finds a letter from her with two choices--"establish yourself in a new place with a new career. You can start fresh, be anything you want, with no past and no baggage." or another option, "Do you want to find answers to the questions you were afraid to ask? Start with the photo. You'll figure the rest out." A file folder with a letter and a faded photo from 21 years ago taken in Cutler's Ridge have the power to send Tallie on a journey that will bring emotional upheaval, and change her life in a way she can't possibly imagine. It's the start of a hunt for answers to questions Tallie has had most of her 22 years.

Jackson James is working at a small local paper in Kensington, Maryland trying to get back on track after a devastating decision ruined his promising journalist career. A mysterious phone call from the someone he never wanted to hear from again sends him to Cutler's Ridge, where he crosses paths with Tallie Brown. For such a small, insignificant little town there are a lot of secrets.

Wow!! This is my first book by this author and it was spellbinding. The mystery and suspense start in the first chapter, but the answers don't come until the last few chapters, and even when the questions are answered the suspense doesn't stop. I've never read a book with so much intrigue, where almost everyone has a secret.

I'm not sure how much I can say in my review without spoiling anything, but if you enjoy suspense this is a great book. I didn't want to stop reading because I had to know how Tallie finding out the truth about her past fit in with the reason Jackson was sent to Cutler's Ridge. I NEVER would've figured it all out. WARNING: You may not want to start reading this book at night--you'll never go to sleep.

Thank you to Covenant Communications via NetGalley for my copy. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.

"Sometimes to survive a thing we can't fix, we go blind to it."

The town of Cutler's Ridge, Virginia has been re-built on secrets, secrets that somehow involve Tallie Brown.

Following the abrupt death of her mother, and considering their nomadic lifestyle, Tallie decides to take on the challenge of following several subtle clues embedded in an old photograph tucked among her mother's effects. Hoping to find answers to the many questions that have plagued her through-out her entire life, Tallie arrives in what was previously a thriving coal mining town, only to discover that no one there wants her to stay.

Journalist Jackson James has just been handed a golden opportunity on a silver platter . . . . maybe. Following many poor choices on his short road to fame, Jackson can only speculate whether or not redemption might be claimed by taking off to a remote Virginia town to discover answers to questions that he that barely comprehends. When he crosses paths with a reclusive blond at the scene of a tragedy, he is tempted to jump to conclusions once again; for there are just too many coincidences in the town of Cutler Ridge.

It's fair to say that this book weaves one of the most intriguing webs of mystery and suspense that I have read in a very long time. However, its inherent strength might also be considered its only weakness, for the complicated plot line and numerous intersecting characters are so intense, that it will take a patient reader to "hang on for the ride". In the end, however, it was totally worth it!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. The opinions stated are entirely my own.

Secrets Never Die by Laurie Lewis was recommended to me by a fellow book reviewer. I started the book without reading the book description so the first chapter totally shocked me.

Tallie had a tough childhood but I loved the skills that Julia taught her. Tallie is on a quest to find her father and comes to Cutler’s Ridge. Julia tried to prepare her that the answer may hurt.

Jackson is an investigative reporter. The author did a great job with his character since I would have hated him from his previous mistake. He wanted to blame Chamberlain for his mistakes but in my opinion they were a test of his character and he failed. Jackson is sent to Cutler’s Ridge to investigate a situation.

Before long Tallie and Jackson realize that their situations a closely tied to each other. This plot was so intricate I cannot image the spreadsheet or drawing the author must have had to keep up with all of it. The author was able to make me gasp (I scared my husband) and shock me. I LOVE it when an author can do that!! I was still thinking about the characters when I woke up this morning. The book will get you to thinking. I would love a sequel. I think Tallie and Jackson would make a great investigative team.
This would make a great book club read. Lots of decisions and situations that could be discussed. What would you do in the situations of Jackson and Chamberlain.

I received this book from Netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review.

Thanks to #Netgalley for providing a copy of this book for review purposes. This was my first Lewis novel, and I greatly enjoyed her writing! The suspense story line was unique, and there were many unexpected parts that I did not see coming. For one thing, I never knew that there was actually a "Quiet Zone" where cell phones and radio communication is banned. This shows that this book had a great mix of fiction and fact. I would categorize this is a clean suspense thriller book.

This author enjoys reminding me of why she is one of my go to authors and why she will continue to be one. Her stories and the twist she comes up with are the things that draw me to her. Now we have Tallie who is truly not only emotionally stunted, but by default she's also suspicious with a warning of trust no one as the last she received. There's more than just the death of her mother here to deal with and the fall out is far greater than she can imagine. Conspiracies, cover ups, blackmail and so many deaths. This is an amazing read which will have you turning in circles to uncover the truth from the lies, the secrets exposed or do they stay secrets? In the end a judgement call will have to be made and that might mean further sacrifices. Jackson understands all of this yet he previous errors in judgement caused a loss of life and he's not making those same mistakes again. But he also finds he's been used and manipulated. When does honor over rule common decency? And when do secrets and the harm they can cause come before answers and revelation? Hmmmm let's see if you still fell that way when you finish reading this.

Secrets Never Die by Laurie Lewis is a very, very clever suspense story that keep you on your toes as you try to navigate the delightful twists and turns. It really shows off Laurie’s talent as an author as the plot whilst seemingly random, is one dance that is so intricately woven together, yet delivered to draw you in. The characters are well developed and believable to read. There is action and drama, suspense and thrills that will keep you tied to your chair as you try to piece it all together and try to work through the puzzles. Laurie has done great job with this story and it is one of the best suspense stories I have read this year.

You need to read and discover the world that Laurie has created so you won’t be getting any spoilers from me.

Wow! I liked this story. This novel is a well-crafted puzzle of clues that you piece together chapter by chapter. I stayed up WAY too late reading it but I could not stop. I truly enjoyed trying to figure out all of the secrets that were hidden in the small town of Cutler's Ridge.

Tallie Brown was a hard character to get to know at first, but I understood why she acted the way she did considering her upbringing. Soon, you are in her corner hoping she finds all of the answers she's looking for. Jackson James was a lot easier to understand and relate to and you can't but feel sad for him and his past mistakes. It was interesting to see how their relationship developed. Together they actually made a pretty good team.

Cutler's Ridge had a very unique group of people that lived there. It truly showed what it's like living in a small town, accompanied with all of the gossipings that can take place. It was kind of crazy to see who held the most secrets and why. It also was shocking to see how these characters were linked to Tallie and her deceased mom, Julia. Be prepared for moments of gasping out of loud amongst all of the cover-ups, blackmailing, and deaths that arise. This story is also one of redemption among tragedy and finding yourself and purpose. I hope that there is another book in the works because I'd like to read more about Tallie after this ended.

This is a clean read full of adventure, mystery, and intrigue. This author is a wonderful writer and I've loved all of her books. If you love novels with a lot of twists and turns "Secrets Never Die" is one you have to read.

SECRETS NEVER DIE is one of those stories that starts with questions and then takes you on a goose chase as the heroine tries to find answers in a small town where no one wants to help her. The suspense gradually builds to a climatic ending. Suspense readers will find much to enjoy about this story.

Tallie is one of those characters easy to relate to on a lot of levels, but also a little removed due to her upbringing. She's very intelligent, beautiful, and talented, but socially inept and somewhat unmoored. He mother has left her with so many questions and on unsteady feet as she tries to piece together what she is supposed to find. I would have liked her character to be a little more steady as I felt she was sometimes on the brink of being unstable, but I also got why she was the way she was. Jackson is also really easy to relate to and is a great character. I enjoyed seeing things through his journalist eye as he tries to figure out what is going on. It is interesting seeing how their friendship develops, as well as a few others they meet, and how there is just a hint of romance (not enough to really call this romantic suspense).

As a reader, you constantly following bread crumbs that seem to lead nowhere, building frustration for trying to figure out what happened that coincides with the climax of this story. The feeling of unease is always present. Everyone is a suspect. You're never quite sure where it all is going and what will happen in the end. There are all these pieces that need to be put together. I appreciated that the author never just gives the answers until the end, that you only know what the characters know. As noted previously, it can be frustrating as you're strung along. I did want a little more danger and a more complex plot in places. The ending had a few holes that didn't work for me, but otherwise, it was well done.

In the end, was it what I wished for? I enjoyed reading this! It's a slowly-building suspense full of clues that readers try to make sense of right along with the main characters. It's gripping in places, emotional in others, and ends sweetly once the truth comes out. Recommended to suspense readers.

Content: Some violence applicable to the story, but would consider this clean.
Source: I received a complimentary copy from the publisher, which did not require a positive review nor affect my review in any way.

Laurie (L C) Lewis' suspense novel Secrets Never Die guarantees the reader a roller coaster ride of emotions. Rich, believable characters and beautiful settings bring the story to life. Main character Tallie suddenly finds herself at a crossroads, deciding whether to disappear into a new identity or face some painful revelations that just might rock her world. Lewis provides a balance of psychological suspense and action. Fans of suspense thrillers won't be disappointed with the twists and turns they face along the journey. Overall Secrets Never Die proves to be a great read--one you'll have a hard time putting down. My only complaint is that Lewis' plot may be overly complicated with too many details for readers to keep up with--especially as they reach the climax and conclusion--so much so that the ending may seem almost unbelievable. It's almost as if the author tried to include too many subplots wrapped around each other, and in doing so, the great story loses as little and may leave some readers dissatisfied with the way it ends. Still, overall, it's a great, suspenseful read that will likely see me picking up other Laurie Lewis suspense novels in the future.

The publisher provided me with a copy of the book through NetGalley in exchange for this honest review. However, the opinions expressed are entirely my own.

All I can say about this book is just Wow! What an awesome book! Absolutely one of the best suspense books I have read. The book follows Tallie Brown from a mountain top in the state of Washington to a town in the East. When her Mother dies unexpectedly she leaves Tallie a letter telling her that she can make a new life for herself or go to Cutler’s Ridge and dig up the past. There she meets Jackson, a newspaper reporter who is in search of a story that will redeem his mistakes. Tallie is on a search to find out who her Father is. Together they team up to find the secrets of the past. There are so many twists and turns in this puzzle that it will keep you guessing throughout the book. It grabbed me on the first page and didn’t let go. This is the first book in a very long time that has kept me up late to finish reading it. I highly recommend this book. Oh my! This book. I didn't want to set it down at all. Unfortunately, I only had small amounts of time to read it so it took me a little while to finish it. I was coming up with all kinds of theories for how everything fit together. And even more so when I got further and further into the book and the author started to reveal a little bit more info here and there. Wow!

If you enjoy suspenseful reads with several twists and turns, intrigue, lies, cover ups, secrets and character searching for answers...this is one I'll highly recommend for you to read.

I had many nights where I was dying to know what was going to happen and I would push through my exhaustion as much as I could to get through another chapter. I'd get to the end of said chapter and have to close the book as I'd drift off to sleep. I might have had a few dreams that had themes from what I'd read. Lol!

I guessed several aspects of the story correctly but there was one big one that I never saw coming. Wow! I don't want to spoil any of those twists and turns with you so I'm not going to say much more in this review except that I enjoyed the book. I always enjoy a good story that makes me think and keeps me guessing and this author definitely delivered that in this book! If you can, don't read it like I did, when I was beyond exhausted. Read it when you've cleared your schedule and can devour it.

Content: Clean. Moments of peril and suspense. Not overly graphic.

I received a copy from the publisher, Covenant Communications, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

I haven't read anything by this author previously but was given a copy by the publisher. I was impressed. This was a twisting, turning journey that kept me guessing until the end. There were enough bread crumbs to start to put pieces together but it definitely didn't give too much away.

I would definitely read stories by this author again. I loved that there were still some things unresolved, not unanswered, but unresolved.

The book travels through the perspectives of other people and in doing that made for a richer story. I may just read some more of the mysteries in my to be read pile as this really whet my appetite for mystery and suspense.

Secrets Never Die is a mystery full of intrigue, danger, a dash of romance, action and lots of interconnecting parts. The main characters and the plot are very interesting. I couldn't put all of the pieces together to solve it and appreciated the way the author showed the solution through dialogue. If you like mysteries, I think you'll enjoy this one. It does raise the question of how much is too much to sacrifice for the greater good. I received an ARC. I chose to write a review and share my opinion.

"Tallie, she loved you. Your safety was her first priority. "

This novel was brilliantly written. I really was able to feel for Tallie and her journey of trying to not only discover who she was but also her mother and what they had been hiding and running for all these years. I could really feel her heartache as she discovered the life she was wrenched away from and the life she lived instead. Unfortunately it all came too late and much more was lost for her then when she had started her journey. I would be interested to see if we follow Tallie and her journey into another novel.

When Julia died the authorities ruled it an accident. Tallie believed otherwise, they knew the forest and the cliffs too well to accidentally fall to death. Julia had raised Tallie to be strong, smart, wise and able to defend herself through all situations. Tallie believed it was suicide from the packet of information her mother left giving her two options to take this opportunity to start fresh somewhere else or go to Cutler's Ridge to fill in the blanks in her life. Tallie chooses to go to Cutler's Ridge to try to find out who her mom really was. As soon as she arrives she witnesses a plane crash. A well known mother and daughter died in the crash, but why were they coming to Cutler's Ridge. Is this crash connected to Tallie, will Tallie discover who she really Is and what her mother was trying to hide from?

Tallie has been brought up in a most peculiar way, with the result that by age 22, she holds two masters' degrees, has lived in almost as many different places (and countries) as she is years old, has excellent shooting, tracking and other similar skills, and is utterly socially inept and isolated, having had little contact with anyone but her mother Julia - and that very limited and cold. When Julia dies suddenly, leaving dangerous secrets behind, Tallie is left with a choice: to disappear and take on a new identity as she has done so many times before, or to visit a town called Cutler's Ridge in search of answers, whatever might await her. On her arrival, the secrets do not prove easy to unearth, and a plane crash not only adds to her questions, but introduces Jackson, a young reporter in desperate need of redemption and chasing an important story connected with the plane - and maybe, it seems, with Tallie. Will they each find the answers to the secrets they are investigating? And is it really true that some secrets are best left as secrets?

Wow! I took a little while to get into this, probably largely due to the nature of the story, where so much is hidden - but once I got into Tallie's story, I found it very hard to put down (though also at times impossible not to put down for a minute to think about what's going on). The writing is good, and the suspense/mystery are managed well, with information being revealed gradually but comprehensively. I really felt for almost all of the characters as they and the story unfolded/developed, but particularly (naturally) Tallie and Jackson. Tragic and yet redemptive, the book is definitely not a light read, but is clean and satisfying. Of course, though I call it satisfying, I'd still really love to see more of what Tallie makes of her life after this - a sequel? All in all, highly recommended - but read it when you have plenty of spare time, or you may find you don't get things done!

Note that I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. This is my considered opinion of the book.

A new to me author.
This new story kept me guessing until the very end!! Just like the author intended!! Good job Laurie Lewis!! I am going to read more from this author in the future!
I love an action packed book that will leave you reading long after 12 a.m.
Poor Tallie!! But in a way lucky Tallie too!! I say that because I can put myself in her place. Sometimes I imagine that if I could find my real family how different my life would be!! Oh my!! How many families that are related to me would come out of the woodworks!
I think that is why Tallie is my favorite because I can relate to her and how I would feel if I did find my real family. Just hopefully not the way she did.
I liked Jackson too. At first I thought that was his real name but it is his last name. I sure hope his family forgave him for what he did. Who knows? Only God and the author truly knows.
I will say this, my heart ached for Sophie and Petty. They were good people.
I sure didn't like Nan or her attitude. I wanted to give her a sock in the nose or an attitude adjustment you might say.
I love the title of this book. Secrets never die because certain people will not let secrets die. Even in real life. Eventually, they will come out in the open. Sometimes now, sometimes later and sometimes with a price. It's a shame really. What makes people snap and what lengths they will go to. Someday they will have to answer to a higher power. All of us will.
Laurie knows how to round out her supporting characters too! I liked some very well and others' not so well.
However; in my opinion, it was a little slow to get into but once you keep reading it takes off and you won't be able to put it down.
I would love to give this book more than 5 stars if I could.
I strongly recommend this book to people that love the who done it mysteries.
I received this book with no compensation received and all opinions are my own!!

This author never disappoints, you are hooked from the first page! This is a bit different than her other books I have read...and I have read them all at least once! The characters develop through out the story with twists and turns keeping you guessing, with just enough suspense and intrigue to keep you reading but without making you turn the lights on and check the locks on the doors! It was interesting watching Kallie use her "training" as she learns to develop relationships and survive in her new world. Jackson is struggling with trusting others and trying to make a difference in the world. The supporting cast also surprises you with their reasoning and interaction in the mystery. I highly recommend this book, I think you will enjoy it. I received an ARC copy and this is my honest opinion.

Oh wow, this was amazing! The author does a great job of keeping the suspense high and the twists and turns at max. All characters in this book were important, every detail is important and there are many thrilling shocks and surprises. Tallie is awesome. The townspeople were frustrating to me, but they had a lot a secrets they were trying to bury. I also liked Jackson and "Chamberlain". I had my assumptions about him from the start, but I ended up really enjoying his character.

SECRETS NEVER DIE by Laurie Lewis

5+++++ AMAZINGLY AWESOME Stars

I just don't know where to begin with this review. Laurie Lewis has sat within the top of my “favorite authors ever” list since the first book I read by her, and that has not changed and I don't think ever will. Each book is different, there is no pattern to her storylines and when I open a book that she has written I make sure I can read it in its entirety because that is what normally happens.

Secrets Never Die had me all twisted up, it was a never ending roller coaster ride constantly having me speculating the next move and finally just giving up and enjoying the ride. Being completely hooked happened on like page 1 and it never let up from there. The storyline was so unique and so precise with no stones left unturned, I was left with no questions or confusion, just simply wanting more! I did not want this story to end. I wouldn't be telling the truth if I said I never got confused while reading because there were so many dips and curves along the way but it just took sitting and lining everything up in my mind to keep me on track. I can not even try to sum up what happened in this book except to say that the characters were amazing. I loved some, I liked some, and I strongly disliked some and there were a few parts where they made me smile. Suspense with a good mystery is one of my favorite genres and Miss Lewis hit this one out of the park.

I would love more from this town and these characters, I would love to know how the trip to Idaho turned out, but for now I'm going to go ahead and allow this story to end in my mind the way I want it to :)

Highly recommend this and anything by this author. She is truly amazing and sets the bar high with every book and then meets it or beats it on the next.

#SecretsNeverDie #NetGalley

Secrets Never Die is a suspense, that gripped me from the first page and had plenty of twists to the plot to keep me turning pages. Tallie Brown hasn't lived a "normal" life, Tallie and her mom, have moved all over the world. At the start of the story, they are living in Washington, deep in the forest, living in a watch tower. Tallie's mom is private and hasn't shared much with Tallie about her life growing up. When unexpected events happen, Tallie finds herself with unanswered questions and taking everything she owns, in a backpack and her only clue a picture of two people, she doesn't know, she heads to the only place she feels, will give her the answers she needs to find. Her mother's secrets seem to only get deeper and Tallie is determined to find out what her mom was running from. Quick read with a lot of twists.

Suspense, mystery, romance PG-13 as some violence and crime
This is probably the best thing I have read of Laurie Lewis'. She nailed this novel with her characters, and the unraveling of the mystery. Jackson and Tallie were so well portrayed, great side characters, and the small town setting. This novel with it's crashing conclusion, still with one bit of the mystery yet to be resolved was so masterfully done. I had a hard time putting it down as Jackson and Tallie joined forces to uncover his story, and the mystery of her birth father.
Well-paced, intense emotions, drama, intrigue, secrets, and a bit of romance. Loved this one! I can't wait to see what Laurie Lewis writes next! More of a 4.5 for me as a reader, but rounded up!
I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. This in no way influenced my opinion.

A good suspense book is one of my very favorites to read! I loved the way the author did this one. There are several points of view that you get to see the story from. You get to see it from the point of view of Julia, that’s Tallie’s mom, Tallie and Jackson. All these points of view make the story more interesting. And help it to make more sense.

There were lots of things about Tallie that I liked. I liked the way she was smart. She had learned a lot of things through not only schooling, but through the way she was raised by Julia. They spent their whole lives on the run. But that’s not really something Tallie really understood until after Julia died. Julia sent Tallie on a mission after she died, a mission to find out where she came from and the secrets that surrounded her life.

Jackson has his own secrets. I liked the way his secrets drove him to be a better person than he had previously been, to change. That’s really what we’re all looking for in our own lives.

The reader doesn’t see much of the story through Julia’s point of view. Only the first chapter is her. But I learned from her that there’s always a way to fix your mistakes. Even if it’s hard. She tried to fix hers, even though she was already dead.

The plot of this book has so many twists and turns. I loved the way I never knew just what was coming next. And there’s no way I would have ever guessed just how all the characters were connected. I loved reading this one!

Secrets Never Die
by Laurie (L.C.) Lewis

Covenant Communications

Christian , Mystery & Thrillers

Pub Date 01 Jul 2019

I am reviewing a copy of Secrets Never Die through Covenant Communications:

Tallie Brown’s Life never made any sense. She was raised in isolation by her Mother Julia. Tallie was dragged from one third world outpost to another until life became more normal seven years ago when her Mother took a position on a mountaintop in the Pacific Northwest. When Julia does suddenly and unexpectedly Tallie learns her Mother may have had a secret life.

Jackson James, Journalist Phenom is still recovering from the mistake that flatlined his career that had been full of promise. Now he’s paying the price for his mistake, working as the editor of a syrupy community rag in a Posh D.C Suburb! After the very man who destroys him, drops a lead about a possible D.C Scandal, the reporter sees his chance at redemption and goes to chase the story.

Jackson’s investigation takes him to Cutler’s Ridge, a dying Virginia Coal Town and directly into the path of the beautiful Tallie. As the two distrustful loners follow the leads their stories begin to come together until they come to the conclusion something happened on Cutler’s Ridge. As they pursue their stories the town’s cold reception turns violence, proving that some will stop at nothing to keep their secrets hidden!

If you are looking for a powerful, suspenseful, Christian Novel, Secrets Never Die is just the book!

Five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

Talk about a mystery! Secrets Never Die will keep you guessing until the very end. Just when you think you know exactly what the story is about, twists and turns are tossed our way that made you second guess everything you've read and all the conclusions you've jumped to.

In this story we meet Tallie Brown, whose life truly is the mystery in this book. Why had her mother kept her hiding throughout her entire life? Who was after her? Who could her father be? How did it all go together with the strange, secretive town of Cutler's Ridge? To be honest, there were a few times throughout the story that I felt like things were dragged out more than necessary. Not that it was badly written by any means, just that I couldn't wait to get to know the answers to all of these questions and so many more. Still, though I wished the pace might have been a little faster at points, it still held me in its grips and had me reading through to the end to figure it all out. That drawing out perhaps even more so had me anxious to see the secrets revealed. This story had a lot of twists and turns that made it hard even for an avid mystery/suspense reader like myself to figure it ALL out. There were parts I'd picked up on, of course, but trying to put it all together? Now, that was much tougher.

It did have just a hint of romance in the story, but I would certainly not qualify this one as a romance novel myself... really just more of an attraction within a mystery. I would have been interested to see where that might lead, but I feel for this particular story, I'm glad it was not a focus.

Overall, it was a really intriguing read...a little over the top at times, but sometimes those make for the most memorable stories, right? Fans of clean suspense or even a great conspiracy are definitely going to enjoy this one.

**I received a complementary copy of this book from the publisher for consideration. All thoughts are 100% my own.
