This second volume features a lot more of the political scheming going on behind the scenes, introducing new characters as it did so and I really enjoyed those bits of the story. I’m so intrigued by the mystery surrounding why Tenka left the Yamainu.
Like in the first volume, the familial bond between the three brothers is so wholesome but now we’re getting to see deeper into their lives and thoughts and feelings. Soramaru is attempting to deal with the fact that his sword skills aren’t as advanced as Tenka’s. With the way things ended in this volume, I feel like some messy moments are about to arise in volume three!
This was a solid sequel to the first volume and I am so ready to see the action and family drama in the next instalment!

Definitely starting to make a bit more sense as more characters and plots are introduced, but it still seems to have a decent amount still shrouded in secrecy. I really want to know more about the orochi, and about the whole "vessel" thing and what that truly means (and why it is the way it is).
I would also very much like to know the importance of that person in the mask :|
Chapter notes below for personal reference: (potentially spoiler heavy)
The Kumo brothers are tasked with ferrying criminals to the prison in the center of Lake Biwa.
Tenka is the eldest. He adores (and protects) his younger brothers- Soramaru and Chutarou. However, a murderer brings change to their lives. A change Tenka just cannot pretend to ignore any longer!
Tenka is a riot. He plays the prankster and fool. That is just a façade to mask his shrewdness and sword skill. Everything he does is to keep Soramaru and Chutarou protected. What secret is Tenka keeping from Sora and Chutarou? And how will it effect their lives thereafter?
Soramaru is frustrated with his life. It is difficult living beneath his eldest brother’s shadow. He strives to be Tenka’s equal, yet his brother refuses to teach him properly. What else can Sora do but find another teacher?
Sora learns about the Orochi by accident. Will he learn what the Vessel of Orochi is? And what it has to do with his family?
The anime follows the manga pretty good. Yeah, some of the scenes are switched about. I wanted to read the manga just to see if there were any scenes that did not make it into the anime. I cannot wait for the next installment!
This volume was an improvement over volume 1. This manga has a very weak introduction. I wonder if this manga is being written from an anime or other source material. There was a reference to their village being under the clouds which seemed important but either I missed the explanation or it was not explained. The first volume described the story being about three brothers and a prison, the prison was mentioned only briefly. The storyline of the “orochi” seems very familiar to me. I like how the two female characters that were introduced wear clothing that covers their bodies! That means I can let my students read this manga. I like the brothers. The older one is very flamboyant and reminds me of Nue from the Demon Prince of Momochi House. The middle brother is my favorite, he is the Jan of the Clan! I love Tokyopop and I know the art is general rather than precise and the storylines are loose and vague but I always love the characters. Let’s see where these three brothers go.
I'm loving all the little ways the manga is different from the movie. But I have to say that Fukushi Sota as Tenka was an inspired choice. I'm loving Manga!Tenka as much as Movie!Tenka. Regarding the story, I'm so curious about the cliffhanger! That was so cool. Now I just have to continue with volume 3!

So much of Tenka and Shirasu's past is revealed here. The story of the extra chapter in the first volume is also revealed. Very nice close-ups; beautiful splash pages. In some of the action scenes, though, I still can't figure out what's going on. Some body parts seem to be missing.
This is a pretty great samurai/ninja manga that took place during the feudal Japan era and a great Japanese mythology manga which I always love!!!👌😻😁🎏🎎🏮🥡💕
😍😍 stunning art, compelling storyline, loveable characters, humorous dialogs, and entertaining extra chapters, stories, and gags... I love every page of it 😍😍
2) English Review This was by far a whole lot better than the first volume. In fact it highlights how useless volume 1 was for the story so far, e.g. that Sora wants to surpass Tenka is shown here as short as possible and with fitting artwork, so overall very smoothly done and not as overblown as in volume 1. We get all necessary introduction and exposition here so volume 1 was pretty much a waste of time, a bonus/advertisement story at best but nothing more, even for a volume 0 it didn't seem good. It was also interesting to read how Sora was offered to be taught advanced sword training by a member of the Wolves. It did make me want to read the third volume, something volume 1 barely managed.
However, as much better as this was here, it did have some of the usual trappings of samurai manga, like how the assassin Naoto has a ridiculously huge sword that he could have never hide anywhere and yet it disappears from one panel to the next (plus all in all I wonder why he is in this series). The whole thing is especially odd since no one else has such weapons. Also these mangas heavily show Kiko's exposed cleavage, which is totally unnecessary because her face makes it pretty clear that she is a woman. What I also found weird that the subtitles explained the word "tanuki," something they did in the last volume already. And it was once again wrongly defined as only being a part of Japanese folklore. It is a real animal and they even have the correct German name, so why not say it? Space could not have been the issue.
