Misadventures with a Manny

Rate this book
Vera Woods is at her wit’s end.

Her husband has run off with the nanny, leaving Vera with a broken heart, three very angry sons, and even less time to juggle the demands of family and her career. After her boys scare away a sixth replacement nanny, Vera is out of time off from work and desperately out of options. Still nursing an aching heart, she turns to an unlikely source for help―a manny.

Lincoln Scott is no stranger to family chaos. But rather than grow jaded, he has thrown his natural talents into building his own business―providing live-in childcare for families as a manny. The money is great and the perks are a blast, but when his family of six years moves to Germany and their plans to bring him along fall through, Lincoln is suddenly unemployed and aware of how much of himself he’s given to other people’s families.

Brought together by circumstances, Lincoln and Vera’s mutually beneficial business arrangement becomes complicated by the undeniable chemistry they share. Vera needs a manny and Lincoln needs a job, but they both may have found the very thing neither one had realized they needed―a whole lot more.

Misadventures is a romantic series of spicy standalone novels, each written or co-written by some of the best names in romance. The stories are scandalous, refreshing, and, of course, incredibly sexy. They’re the perfect bedside read, a ‘quick blush’ for the reader who loves a page-turning romance.

Vera & Lincoln
She needs a nanny for her kids after her hub left her for the last one. He just happens to be looking for a new gig after his last family moved out of the country.

Vera was a strong woman trying to find that work/life balance. Linc was so sweet and great with the kids. I loved them both.

Vera's cheating ex hub wins the cake for biggest douche in town.

Overall, a delight and one of my favorite of this "series".

MY THOUGHTS:
Lincoln and Vera’s heart-warming story was fun and entertaining. This is one of my favourites in the series, Toni gave this story an edge and her talented writing style gripped me as a reader for the very beginning.

It’s sweet and sexy and everything in between. This is definitely one of those stories where you can’t say too much as it would spoil another readers experience. So I’m going to leave you with this, if you are a fan of the Misadventure series then you will love this, if you like a romance story that has depth and well developed characters then you will most definitely enjoy this. If you love a romance story that pulls on your heart strings but also makes you smile and feel good, then this is a book you won’t want to miss. Add it to your TBR list today!

3.5 It was okay Stars

I’m not sure if this was better via audio or better reading it. I guess it depends on what you are looking for.

I like the Misadventures series. I like that each book is written by a different author and each book has a core theme. However, these aren’t 5 star books, so far they haven’t been for me. I mean, they pass the time, the stories are cute, but it’s nothing that will blow your socks off.

I like Toni Aleo’s writing, but I did find this one a little angsty which isn’t my cuppa, so this is for those who like that sort of thing.

Narrators

I have listened to Stella Blooms voice several times and I think she narrates well, she just isn’t for me, as in her voice is a bit too mature for my taste. Granted the Heroine is 31 so it fit her, but I like a more high-pitched girly voice. I’m picky like that.

I loved Brian Pallino’s voice. It’s deep but not too deep and he fit the character very well. The Hero is 28 (three years younger than the Heroine) and to be honest he did sound younger. I like his voice transitions and acting. I would 100% stalk his audio page and look up more books he has done.

The Story

The book is almost 7 hours so it’s not a long book, but it’s hard for the characters to create a true bond within that time frame. In my opinion the book was insta-lust than anything else. I mean, there was a five minute monologue on how handsome / sexy / god like the Hero looked like to the Heroine. I was thinking to myself, “Yes we get it, he’s good looking, sheesh, move on with the story”. Oh and the Hero did the same thing. There was a five minute monologue on how curvy, sexy and fuckable the Heroine was to the Hero. It was kind of annoying.

It took quite a bit of time for the two characters to have more than surface interaction. I thought the story build-up was a waste of time in the book for the book being so short. But we had to get into why the Hero needed a job, why the Heroine was getting a divorce and it was about 2 hours in until we got somewhere between the Hero and the Heroine.

Oh and another pet peeve of mine is the secondary character conversations. You know, how the Heroine / Hero have to have a scene where they talk about their problems with their best friends and it takes up time in the book. Gah, this went on and on and on. Every time something happened, the Hero or Heroine had to “talk” to their best friends about what they should do and how they should think. It annoyed me.

Even with all of that, that didn’t annoy me as much as the villain.

the main Angst of the book was the villain (or the problem that is creating friction between the Hero / heroine

I didn’t like Vera’s ex-husband. I found his character a little too much and the fighting between her and him kind of over shadow the main couple. I was getting frustrated and annoyed with it. I get that is probably how real life co-parents fight, but it didn’t need to waste the audio space the book is already limited.

Overall

Even though this review is a rant, I did like it, I just thought there were more annoying bits than the usual for me to handle. I think the Hero’s narrator kind of saved the book for me though. So this might be for those who like a little more angst and lots of steam.

I want a Manny! I mean, I don't have any kids, but I still want a manny. Well, this manny anyways!

I was hooked on Misadventures With A Manny from go to woah. And I mean woah, Lincoln!

I liked that this wasn't the typical workaholic single dad needs a nanny - we get the flip with a workaholic single mum needing a manny!

I love the push/pull between Vera and Lincoln. I mean, there is sexual tension through the roof with this pair, and it was just a matter of time before things became more.

I mean, I wanted to push them into the bedroom so they would get it on!

Their relationship is complicated, sweet and tender. It was a lot of we couldn't, we shouldn't. We can't. But they did it was wonderful.

Vera's boys are just amazing. And Lincoln really is a kid whisperer.

I love that Vera isn't some weak woman. She is strong, she is dedicated to her family, she doesn't take her exes sh!t (and believe me, right from the start there is plenty of cow poo delivered!). She is fighter.

This book just had me smiling the whole time I was reading it (well, except when I wanted to slap her ex with my kindle).

I haven't read many of the Misadventures books, and I know I should go back and read more of them in the future.

I can't wait to see what Ms Aleo brings us next.

absolutely fantastic ... from start to finish.

I fell in love with both Vera and Linc the minute they hit the page. Their story put a smile on my face and warmed my heart. And don't get me started on the boys! I don't have any details to give to back that statement up. I keep rolling thru the story in my mind to see what I can and cannot mention and I just don't want to say a single thing about the plot LOL I want you to be just as happy as I was every time I turned the page.

I do want to say one thing. I've been a fan of the Misadventures since the start, and I have enjoyed them tremendously but this one was just more. It was sweet and sexy and romantic. It was fun and exciting and a little bit thrilling at times. It just felt good!

Oh my god. OH MY GOD!! This book, this book was just everything I feel so emotional right now after finishing this beauty, sappy, ugly, happy tears just wow.

ARC received in exchange for an honest review

I just want to start by saying Toni Aleo did an absolute flawless job on Misadventures with a Manny. It’s not often a book hooks me as much as this one did. It’s not often that I’m whipped away from reality and completely invested in a book that I actually forget everything and everyone around me. It just blew me away and I’m completely in awe.

Lincoln and Vera are everything. I loved their story and would absolutely want more from them! Their kids, their lives everything was so on point. Although there was heartbreak and sadness I wouldn’t change a thing about it as it led them both to where they are now and I’m so happy with that. In a way these characters are similar yet so different which makes them work so perfectly.

Vera being made to feel the way she did because of her ex is just awful, he’s complete and utter trash and needs to get punched by a baseball bat in the balls repeatedly so he can’t procreate anymore, that fucker.

Lincoln, that man is what every woman deserves. He’s kind, caring and absolutely adores Vera. He treats her with respect, he shows her she’s worth more than what her ex says and the amount of love her had for the kids amazes me. He’s an incredible human as is Vera. She’s so strong and beautiful and god, I love that woman so hard, absolutely amazing!

I can’t say this enough but Misadventures with a Manny is an absolutely incredible read, one of my absolute favourite books of this series. It’s everything I hoped it would be and more.

I seem to have the same feeling about all of the books I have read by this author. The storylines are interesting and different but I don’t always like the characters and/or the way the story is executed. There is the over use of the word “giggle” and just so you know a 30 something year old should not be giggling.

I feel like there were too many sentences describing how sexy and nice looking that Lincoln is and I get it, now move on. I appreciate Lincoln thinking that Vera is beautiful with her sexy curves and nice ass but I think 2 sentences would have been plenty not 10 sentences on the matter.

Even though it is a pretty short book it did tend to drag just a bit in a few spots. I know this is sounding like I didn’t like it but I did like the book just maybe not completely.

Wow……and Simon, can I get a “F*ck!ng @ssho!e!!!!!”?? He was a real piece of work. I don’t understand how Vera put up with him. I mean, more power to her for not spouting off crap at him in front of the kids or even over the phone. I certainly would have given him a piece of my mind.

Vera and Linc were a good couple and the relationships that each of them had with the kids individually were awesome.

All in all a good read.

Absolutely one of my favorite books in the Misadventures series! I have to admit that I opened this one with a bit or curiosity. The idea of turning a manny into a sexy romance hero seemed like a daunting task to me--but I should have known it was Toni freakin' Aleo that we're talking about here, and the woman didn't just handle the task with grace, style, and sexiness...folks, she hit the damn ball right out of the park. The best thing is, she did it all with a subtlety to her prose and a respect for her characters that had me falling in love with them as true, real people that are dealing with true, real issues. My heart was aching and laughing and swooning and sighing, rooting for Linc and Vera as they fought their way past the misgivings and insecurities that would befall any normal couple having to redefine life around jobs and kids and "real life." The relatability of this story is the core of its beautiful charm, sigh-worthy feels, and eventually, and an HEA so satisfying, I closed the book with a reluctant sigh. I seriously didn't want it to end! Such a wonderful and well-told story. All the stars!!!

Cute story. Vera's dumped by her skunky husband (Simon). They have 3 kids together so Vera has to put with his asshole-ness when battling for which days who gets the kids (3 boys including twins)
Dual 1st person POV. The H, Lincoln is the "manny". Besotted with Vera from day 1/minute 1.
Lincoln is fantastic with the kids.
Vera's hot for Lincoln too, but she tries to avoid admitting it.
I liked the characters-except Simon.
The plot didn't seem too far from a slice of life. A view of divorced parents & the non-cheater one moving on with a MUCH better guy-in every way.
I borrowed this from Overdrive, but I think that it's $2.99 on Kindle.
This is my first book by Toni Aleo.

My first by Ms.Aleo, I might check her other work far away in the future. I like the plot, a male working in the industry that is usually dominates by female. However, the insta sexual attractions by both parties from the moment they meet is just too much for me. Predictable story, the kids are just okay-don't have a favorite, the ex husband - a major ###hole.

OMG I loved Misadventures with a Manny so much!! I have actually never read anything by Tony Aleo before but now I want to go read ALL her books because I enjoyed this one so much!!

Let's start with the kids, Charlie, Elliot and Louis, because they were the glue that held this story together. They were adorable and their struggles being in the middle of the divorce was heartbreaking. Vera, our leading lady, was a complicated woman. In her job and with those around her she is strong, take charge and get sh*t done type of woman. Yet when it came to her marriage with her scum bag ex-husband she let him walk all over her and cheat on her time and time again. I get that she wanted to stay with him for the children but for me that crap would have ended long before he got the nanny knocked up. Vera was curvy and beautiful even though she couldn't see thank to her ex always verbally beating her down. This causes her to doubt that a man like Lincoln could ever be attracted to her.

Lincoln with his six-pack abs, trimmed beard, heart of gold, love of children and cooking abilities is every womans ideal man, at least it's mine hehe When the family he has been mannying for moves overseas he is in need of a new job. At the same time Vera has been through 7 nannies for her boys and is desperate enough to hire a manny even though she would rather have a female taking care of the kids. When the two meet it is complete insta lust, and they both wonder how they are going to work around each other and keep their hands to themselves. As Lincoln and Vera spends time together they quickly develop feelings that are more than physical, but Vera is afraid that she's not enough and Lincoln is afraid that she's won't be able to give him forever.

Misadventures with the Manny is a slow burn that's totally worth the wait. They don't give in until half-way through the book and when they do its intense. Lincoln and Vera have amazing sexual chemistry whether in the bedroom or in the kitchen 🔥 This was a fantastic steamy installment to the Misadventures series!

"I want to slide my hands up the back of her thighs, grab that ass of hers, and whisper how fucking beautiful I think she is."

Misadventures with a Manny by Toni Aleo is book 16 in the Misadventures series. This is the story of Lincoln and Vera.
This is a standalone book.
Vera is really strong women who tried to keep her family together even with a cheating husband but she is now free of him but not free of the impact he had on her self confidence. Vera's boys are going through nannies until she thought to try a Manny. Lincoln is that Manny who has a way with her boys and her. Lincoln and Vera have sparks flying left and right making this a really hot read along with a funny emotional one too.
Loved it!

From beginning to end - I LOVED this book.

Almost immediately, this book gave me One Last Time (Corinne Michaels) vibes and since that still remains one of my favorite books of the year, I was all in! I loved Vera and her dedication to her children, I hated her rat bastard of an ex, and Lincoln was so unbelievably swoon worthy. I even adored Vera's sons, her sister, and her brother-in-law/Lincoln's best friend. The chemistry between Vera and Lincoln was incredible and her history with her ex made her such a sympathetic character - it made it really easy to cheer her on. The obstacles to HEA were real and I enjoyed the tension that they provided (though I did feel like they came to a head and were resolved rather swiftly). I also wasn't expecting Misadventures with a Manny to be the slow burn that it was, but when we finally get to the couples first hookup, it was so worth the wait! I've thoroughly enjoyed both of Toni Aleo's contributions to the Misadventures series so far and I fully plan to read her Assassins series soon! 5 out of 5 wine glasses.

ARC kindly received in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed this one, but it wasn't my favourite. I don't think I really connected with either of the main characters. That said though, there are alot of great things about this story. Liam for one. The three squeezes and Vera's bond with her kids for another.

I really disliked Simon. You'll understand why when you read this one. Vera is in a situation where she is trying her best, but its been a really long time since she's enjoyed something for herself, and that's where Liam comes in.

His bond and ease with children, particularly Vera's kids is great. He's a really sweet character and great male lead in this book. I also thought the ending was very fitting and quite cute for these two.

Misadventures with a Manny is a fantastic read. It's emotional and funny and so well written. I loved Lincoln and Vera. He's completely swoon worthy and she was so strong and honestly just a character I can really connect with. I think that's a huge sign of what a truly gifted writer Toni Aleo is. I haven't experienced what leading lady Vera had personally but the insecurities and doubts about parenting, the worries about whether you're enough? I can relate to those kind of thoughts very well. Lincoln is the kind of guy you hope to find when you have those thoughts. He was so supportive and caring. Being great with kids was a huge bonus. Who doesn't love a man who loves and is great with kids?

Overall this book was such a wonderful reading experience. I am really enjoying the Misadventure series, and I am extremely interested in checking out more Toni Aleo books.

Buonasera, lettrici!

A presto!

Misadventures with a Manny is a rather tame book for the misadventure series. It wasn't bad per see, but it wasn't so adventurous as the others. Still, I liked it and I had no problem reading it. Lincoln is interacting with Vera's kids a lot (as one would expect because he is the manny) and I was happy that they weren't pushed aside because they were no longer needed as a plot device. There was a satisfying amount of character and relationship development with a little drama thrown in to spice things up. I hated Vera's ex-husband and I wouldn't have minded if the author decided to have him killed. I didn't hate the nanny who ended up married to him and I wish she will get a better man in her life. Overall the book was good. The story was good and I liked the main and secondary characters with the exception of Vera's ex. I would recommend it as a story, but not as a part of the misadventure series.

All the feels? This book has it in spades!!

All the tears I shed through out this book were so cathartic!! First, I totally identified Vera to my own mother, and her three boys to myself, my sister & my brother. That being said, emotions hit me right away as I started reading. While Simon was not exactly my father, the feelings evoked by a divorce are so dead on to what is written in this book!! Secondly, this storyline is so amazing!! It takes a very strong man to step into a role traditionally held by a woman and rock it!! Lincoln does that and then some!! When he and Vera finally give into their desires things get pretty hot and heavy!! Simon continues to be a dick and creates a world of pain for everyone! I totally loved how this book was written! Amazing book!! I loved it!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I absolutely loved Linc! I would take him as a manny any day! The only thing that could have made my ovaries swoon some more would have been if Vera had an infant/toddler age child for him to interact with. He was the perfect person to watch anyone's children but especially three young boys who just had their world ripped in two.

Loved the comedy, loved their internal thoughts about each other. Loved the secondary characters all around. Just a great book with mild angst. Perfect for a rainy afternoon read!

Always a joy to read this author and this book did not disappoint!

I so enjoyed Linc & Vera! It was refreshing to have a kind of twist on the boss/employee trope, and also that they didn't fall into some "expected" categories. I was a little annoyed by the conflicting advice their (married) BFF's were giving them, because I felt like they should be on the same page, and also I didn't think they had the appropriate amount of respect for Vera & Lincoln.

BUT other than those small blips, I loved the story! The kids are written well & the issue of blended families was handled w/ a lot of class, which gets a big thumbs up from me! Characters & storyline get an A+! (Oh, and steamy steam, too...!) : )

Vera is fresh off a divorce and trying to give her three sons some stability in their new normal. After her sons run off several nannies, her sister suggested she hire a manny. Lincoln is a hot guy who has all the skills and education to deal with young kids and run her household better then her. Linc and Vera hit it off with strong chemistry with a nice tease back and forth for awhile. I adored how the kids opened up to Linc and Vera was so in tune with them.
The characters were well developed and had depth in them to carry the plot.

This book was ridiculous. From the moment hero and heroine met each other they fell in lust. The heroine was a wet puddle of mess and hero was a walking hard on. The heroine’s husband was a huge ass. He cheated on her 7 times. I can’t understand why a woman would stay with a man when he cheated on her 7 times? He did it while she was pregnant both times, she knew and she still decided to marry him. She was just pathetic. and the last time was when she found him in her bed with their nanny.
Hero tried to bashed the ex husband and he also said something about the nanny. What kind of man would do this? Comparing both women? Sure I know why the author did this. She did it because she wanted to show that he was in lust with the heroine, how he found her more pretty, with curves. How a 10 she was. I hate men like this. He even managed to sound like a woman talking shit about a man and woman that he hadn’t officially met yet.
One thing I will say though, I’ve never read a hero say the word “ugh” it sounded ridiculous and stupid.

The heroine was ok on not bashing her ex in front of her kids. Even though he did it she decided to never talk bad about her ex and his new wife. She was a good mother, and that was the only thing I liked about her.

She hasn’t had sex for 6 years, Hero has been celibate for a long time.
Turns out her ex husband was also cheating on the nanny/wife who was also pregnant. She left him. She didn’t wait for him to cheat 7 times on her like the heroine did.

The book is safe.
She made a date with a coworker but she canceled it. There’s no OW drama but plenty of ex husband drama.

I really enjoyed this story. I LOVED Lincoln! The attraction between him and Vera was strong from the beginning. I felt for Vera because she had spent 15 years with a complete douchebag so her self-esteem is pretty low. Vera needs Lincoln in her life just like Lincoln needs Vera in his.

OHHHHH YOU KNOW THIS IS GONNA BE RANTY REVIEW

I was kinda keen to dive into this one I mean a single mother of three boys and throw a manny into this mix. But little did I know the hell I signed myself up for. Should have DNF’d.

There are so many things that I hated/didn’t work for me in this book. The insta-attraction and very unrealistic male narration should have been my first red flag to haul ass and drop this book. I can’t for the life of me imagine a guy thinking half the crap that went through Lincoln’s head when he was all drooling and worshipping Vera for a good chunk of the novel. It was so obvious this was written by a female author. Lincoln's just barely been in Vera's life and he’s overcome by how much he wants her and “gah” she’s so amazing, how lucky am I to breathe the same air she breathes rahrahrah

Okay I may have exaggerated that last part just a tad but same shit. CRINGE.

On top of that, I’m not really sure kids the same age talk like these boys do… at times it just seemed too mature and perceptive. The writing style leaves a lot to be desired for. Moving on to the mess that is our heroine, Vera.

Oh sweet Vera, what a spineless doormat you are. It’s very evident early on that Vera is a doormat but I did not imagine it to be to THAT extent. I had mixed feelings in the beginning since I wasn’t sure if Vera was a pushover or just her tryna act mature/respectful in front of her kids when interacting with her ex but BOYYYY. When it is revealed later on that her ex-husband, Simon, had cheated on her 7… SEVEN FUCKING TIMES during their relationship. GOOD BLOODY GRIEF WOMAN.

I can’t even.

She also lets her Simon talk to her like trash… I understand not doing the same in front of the kids but GIRL GROW A DAMN SPINE. Vera literally has to work up a nerve to call her ex and she was scared to even mention about the new manny. WTF.

Look, if you are trying to find a book that will give you a good headache and cringefest you go on right ahead and enjoy this mess of a book. Dun let nobody be your Simon.

Yes! I have read a few books from this amazing author but she keeps on blowing me away with her storytelling. I have been waiting for this book ever since I seen the cover and it is well worth the wait. This is book fourteen in this epic series Misadventure. You can read this book as a stand alone. You don’t have to read them in order. These two characters drew me in right from the beginning. You can’t help but to fall in love with them. I could not put this book down. It only took me a few hours to devour this incredible story.

Vera Woods is going through a nasty divorce. She loves her job and she knows that she works a lot but she has kids to feed. Now she has to watch her step due to her horrible ex husband. Vera is about to give up but her sister saves her. She is then introduced to a handsome man that watches kids. Lincoln is a Manny. Vera feels chemistry right away for Lincoln. She knows that this should be strictly business but could it also be for pleasure?

I absolutely loved this book. The storyline has it all romance, heat, humor, and healing. You will fall in love with these characters right from the start. Vera is a beautiful strong mother that wants the best for her boys. She wants to find the love that she should have had. Lincoln is a very handsome and good guy. He cares for everyone he is close to. These characters have some steamy scenes that will make your toes curl. This is the perfect edition to this series. I can’t wait to see what this author will write next.

I fell in love with Vera and Linc! This misadventures is a little longer than others but Toni Aleo did amazing with building a solid back story and they took time getting to know each other where you can really feel their bond growing stronger by the page! I wanted to punch Vera's Ex so many times it did make the story a little angsty but nothing to angsty. I am really enjoying this series!
