Roztomilost - přesně taková, jakou byste čekali ;) Krásný dárek pro malé čtenáře... Minimálně moje dětské já, které kreslilo do katalogů z IKEA, by tuhle knihu zatraceně ocenilo. 4/5*
This is a super silly and fun introduction to the wackier side of architecture. It definitely seems to be written for middle grade kids (the perfect audience for it) but marketed to adults (at least in the US). There aren't many adult books where you define vocabulary words like "patio." It definitely feels like a kids book! The illustrations are fun and have a hand drawn, DIY quality. Although I like the illustrations in the authors' other work MAPS better, I think there's a really lively quality to the colors and lines here that is so appealing. It would be a really fun book to have in a classroom, school library, or public library children's section.
An illustraited collection of extraordinary houses around the world. My 4-year-old son is calling the houses by name when he sees it in the book. This book has inspired him to build his own houses from pillows etc., and he is giving the houses own names. It has definitely boosted his creativity and showed him that there can be more of a house than 4 walls and one roof.
Very interesting book about architecture for small kids and all family, it was perfect integrated activity to read book and search for real building pictures.
badly done. The concept is great. The houses chosen are interesting. The illustrations are terrible and ugly, especially those of people. And how can these places be "fantastic living" when so many don't have bathrooms? Also, too many of them have too many stairs. This is fine when you're young and energetic, until you sprain your ankle, or you get older. One house has 4 levels with only one half-bath, and it's on the ground floor. A few would be interesting to live in. Most would be okay to visit but not to live in. Many wouldn't even be good to visit for overnight, just for a couple of hours. I finished it only because I was curious about all these houses I'd never heard of. And each was given only 4 pages, at most 6, with little text so it didn't take all that long. This would be a much better book with better illustrations or maybe photographs. Then they could use more of them. And more text and better written text. They should also explain why so many of the houses chosen don't have bathrooms. It's all right for the Japanese tea house but not for places where you are spending the night.
I read another review on this site and hoped I would strongly disagree with it, but sadly that was not the case. This book is about very odd shaped houses around the world. These are not your typical homes and many of them had unusual shapes. The odd part was the the illustrations and the brevity of the text. The book was hard to read and often left me wondering more about each home. The pictures were very oddly formed as well.
What a neat book! My 8yr old and I learned about all these different houses all over the world constructed for all kinds of reasons out of a variety of materials. We had to look up each one on the computer so we could actually see what they looked like instead of only the simple drawings in the book. But that's ok.
A neat book that showcases interesting homes (things like egg shaped dwellings, houses with walls made of fabric curtains, etc) around the world. This book utilizes 100% stylized illustrations which gives it a nice style but somewhat frustrating at times because it would've been nice to see actual photographs of the various dwellings.
It was fun reading about the different houses, it doesn't get boggled down in the technical details and I like the whimsical drawings. I do have some issues with text visibility though. On dark pages the font is nearly illegible.
I good idea for a book (cool, unique houses) but the arts not that good and the text feels like it was translated by someone who don't speech English very well. Check their MAPS book instead, it's great.
