If you’re a fan of famed Manhattan bakery Amy’s Bread, you will love The Sweeter Side of Amy's Bread , a beautiful cookbook that will show you how to re-create 71 of the bakery’s favorite sweet treats. Bake Amy’s signature scones, muffins, cookies, bars, biscotti, layer cakes, and other treats in the comfort of your own home! With recipes for tasty breakfast fare like Cherry Cream Scones and Pecan Sticky Buns to delectable sweets like Double Chocolate Chip Cookies and Amy's famous "Pink Cake," this book has illustrated color photos to help you along.
I love this cookbook! I've had it for years and still enjoy looking at all the lovely photos and reading the stories about Amy's Bread staff and customers. My absolute favorite recipes from this cookbook are: Lemon Bars (best recipe I've found for these!), Chocolate Chip Cookies (recipe includes ginger and molasses, so goood!), Double Chocolate Chip Cookies, Lime Cornmeal Cookies, and Brownies. It's great to bake from a cookbook written by people that work with these recipes every day in the bakery, because they know what tips to share for baking success. There are easy to use charts for each recipe's ingredients showing grams, ounces and volume measurements, depending on your preference. It's the best!
Again, looking for cake recipes, I stumbled on this at the library. The layout of this cookbook is great- lots of pictures, volume and weight measurements on all recipes, plenty of extra stories and tidbits to read. Unfortunately, not many cake recipes, though the few included do sound delicious. But I must say the cookies truly look the best. I have yet to try any recipes from this book, hence the 3-star rating, but I would definitely check this out again when I'm not moving and don't have to fear losing it in boxes.
I bought this book on the strength of "Amy's Bread". It was just as good.
I'm an experienced and excellent cook but I've only been a baker for a few years - and even then only of bread. I really like the recipes; they're clear and not hard to follow, and these are a bit simpler than the bread recipes. Having never made cakes, biscuits, bars I have tried several recipes - Carrot Cake, Monkey Cake and one of the bars - delicious.
Loved the anecdotes about staff and customers. Haven't been to New York in years and years but if/when I go I will definitely visit her bakery.
I love baking bread and have felt a bit stuck on some of the issues I've had in baking certain breads. This book has a lot of great info on tips and tricks to get some great crunchy bread from your own home. It gives ideas on how to recreate the stone oven baking with your own stove. Now I just want to go to NYC to have some of their fresh bread!
I bought this off the clearance shelf on Amazon.com. I was not disappointed. I have yet to make anything I haven't loved. My favorites are the Apple Walnut cake (hands down) and the Blondies. My sister and I are baking our way through the book and one of her favorites is the Cinnamon Raisin Twists.
Just didn't grab me - don't know if it was the layout of the book, or the recipes, but there was not a single thing in this book that I wanted to make.
