Chased by a mad man, love was the last thing on their mind!
Four Scots orphans flee their home of Castle Fionnaghall to escape the wicked schemes of their mad uncle....
The eldest sister, Godet Ross, believes their best chance of survival lies in her childhood betrothal to the neighbouring Laird's son -- Gordon MacDonnell. A sudden spark ignites when their eyes meet!
Since youth, Godet has blossomed into a buxom beauty and Gordon has risen to become a burly and fearsome warrior.
Unbeknownst to Godet, however, Gordon has been promised to another: Lady Bridga MacTavish.
Fearing for their safety from their brutish uncle, Gordon allows the Ross sisters to seek refuge in his castle, much to Bridga's chagrin.
Their uncle Mungan isn't so easy to thwart, however. He plans to marry Godet and seize Fionnaghall for himself once and for all and he believes no one can stop him-- not even Laird Gordon MacDonell.
Confined by their circumstances, the heated connection between the fiery Godet and the indomitable Gordon continues to flourish despite the chaos surrounding them.
When they are offered the help of the most unlikely of allies, will Gordon and Godet finally have any hope of being able to break free from the chains that bind them?
"Highlander's Lionheart" has over 80,000 words packed with romance, plot twists, and emotion, set on the beautiful backdrop of the Scottish Highlands.
This book was not what I expected and probably should be sheepish by clicking on a book by its cover. Although Scottish Romance category, it is far more Highlanders battle than romance. But cool twist - fierce female warriors. I loved the fierceness of the Ross sisters. Bridga was equally surprising. However for me some of the scenes went a bit too long as the same scene was shown from two or more characters' POV. Because there are long battle scenes, I found myself skimming. Who I think will enjoy it? Those readers who really enjoy being immersed in the historical battles and much less romance. The romance takes a very back seat to the story. Although those interactions between the Ross sisters and the Highlanders who fall at their feet I giggled. Oh and Gordon kissing Godet - fans self. But these are too few for this romance lover.
sometimes i just need my Scottish historical romance fix. come on...brawny, sexy scots...strong independent women...how can i not?
this was a first time read by this author for me. it was ok & it satisfied my fix. it has 4 strong women characters. good chemistry w/the male characters. some humor. a good story.
The writing was excellent in this book and nothing endears me to a writer or a book more than humor. I found myself busting up laughing at some of the things the youngest sister, Ina, said.
The characters were all lovable except the bad guys and I liked that all of the sisters knew how to fight but I did roll my eyes a few times because they seemed to be too wonderful at times.
The story featured Godet and Gordon's romance but also delved a little into the three sister's potential romances which made me hope for this to turn into a series.
I totally enjoyed this book. I was quite surprised at the whole storyline. This story brought so much to the table that I wasn’t expecting. I don’t do spoilers it’s not fair to the author. You can get all you need by reading the blurb. Better yet read the book. I will tell you how the book affected me.
This story is way ahead of it’s time. Yes it’s set back in the days of Scottish castles and land war and such but the women in the book are not weak, or caught up in mundane tasks. They have a purpose and they’re smart, funny, quick witted, beautiful, talented and are feminist before there were even feminist. It is so refreshing to read this in a story where the women are on equal footing. Don’t get me wrong this is a love story. The men in this story are as important as the women. They are way ahead of their time. Some men today could take a lesson from this book. I seriously read this book in one sitting. I had to know how they were going to resolve all the issues in the story. Yes, there is more than one major issue. There’s a sweetness and a smartness to the story. I found myself smiling quite a bit. One of the unique parts of this book is that there are of course two main characters. Godet, the oldest sister, and Gordon, the Laird of the MacDonnell Clan. However, there are many characters who are almost lead. I’ll refer to them as supporting characters. They all added so much dept to the story.
I really don’t want to say too much, (although I really do) because you need to enjoy this book all on your own. If you like Highland stories, and learning a little of the Scottish language, intrigue, learning about weapons of old, romance, anticipation, smiling a lot and a good love story then this is the book for you. Don’t worry you’ll get your villains to hate. But you’ll also learn appearances can be deceiving.
Seriously, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. I had a feeling I would like it but I really fell in love with this book. Let me just say, i liked every one of the sisters, especially Godet, each sister brought something special to the book, but I have a warm spot in my heart for the youngest sister, Ina. When you read this book you will too! This is a story I will be re-reading.
One of the best novels I have read about family ties, romance, Scottish warriors and loyalty written by Alisa Adams! Three sisters, three Clydesdale horses, one aunt and one pony fight to obtain their ancient family home from someone who stole it from them. It was interesting how Aunt Hextilda knows how to control the nieces. The author did a great job naming the horses and pony which I won't mention here as there is more to their names in the plot. The Scottish warriors that protected , helped, and fell in love with the sisters also have a strong bond and two being brothers while one was the Laird of his clan. I thought the plot was excellent in describing what went on in the regaining of the castle, how they got in and out of the castle and their trek back and fort to the castles. I also enjoyed the epilogue to tell of who married whom and about the children that came from those unions. An excellent read and I received this as an ARC novel for an honest review. Very different, Alisa has out done herself this time. A mix of hijinks and horrors as the women of the Castle of the clan Ross are held captive by their Father's far off relative Mundag whom the girls don't know. He is mean and violent. He beats people including the oldest of the girls for no reason but he is in a had mood. Their Aunt tells them it's time for the oldest girl to go to her intended. So they pack up while Mundag is out hunting and get a wagon to carry their trunks and their large Clydesdale horses and escape to the Mac Donell clan. Once there they find Her betrothed is betrothed to a woman of the Mac Kenzie clan. What is going on???
Wow what's not to love about Scottish Highlander's, their size, their lands, their overwhelming capacity to love. Highlander's Lionheart captures the imagination with 4 sisters, running from their abusive uncle who has taken over their castle. The oldest sister believes she is betroth to the Laird of another castle and they run to him for protection. Will Godet and Gordern find love even though he is betroth to another woman. This story captures the imagination with , beautiful women, hunky men, bad guys, mystery, treachery, love and don't you dare put down this book romance. This is a must read for romance lovers
The author once again out did herself in the preparation and presentation of this novel. The storyline was outstanding. It tells of four sisters and their aunt in the pursuit of protection from a relative who was hell bent on marrying the eldest sister and being the Laird of the castle. It shows the women as being strong, determined, strong-willed, and proficient with all types of weapons and superb horsemanship with Clydesdales. Women's liberation at its earliest perception.
HIGHLANDER'S LIONHEART: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Action? ✔ Danger? ✔ Adventure? ✔ Soul Mate Complications? ✔ An exciting story where the heroine Godet and her three sisters Flori, Ceena and Ina barely escaped their castle that was overrun by the evil Mungan and his men. Their Aunt Hexy pointed them to Laird MacDonald's clan. She told Godet that her parents betrothed her at a young age to the Laird's son Gordon. Godet never knew and wondered if Gordon did? In this story Godet is amazing. She is the quintessential warrioress or Amazonian woman not in size but in intelligence, bravery and weaponry. She trained her own horses Clydesdale's. These horses were giants among their kind and yet were loved and trained specifically for each rider. When Godet met Gordon after many, many years, they were no longer children but a grown man and woman. There was an immediate attraction between them but Gordon had a huge complication that could not be ignored. The story tells of Gordon falling in love with Godet and she with him. But Godet knew the complication in Gordon's life would forever keep them apart. Now Mungan did not give up his pursuit of Godet. To become the legitimate Laird of Fionnaghall Castle he would have to marry Godet the rightful heir. Even when the sisters reached the safety of the MacDonall clan at Conall castle Mungan did not stop trying to kidnap her. The story made me laugh as the youngest Ross sister Ina had such an imagination. It was hysterical and their Aunt Hexy, I could not tell if she was truly eccentric and had brilliant ideas or not. She was definitely someone you cannot forget. The adventure continues as two of the sisters were captured but then escaped. It was so interesting comical even that each sister had attracted their soulmate. Their interactions made me laugh. These sisters were so independent that they were not used to men doing for them. At the same time doubt crept into Godet's mind as to why Gordon was pursuing her. She decided to attack Mungan and take their home Fionnaghall back on their own. A very exciting story of brave strong women and the warriors that loved them. I loved the extended epilogue and it peaked into the future. A very satisfying read and I look forward to the next installment of the Ross sisters. I highly recommend this book.
I love the idea of warrior women and the independence stemming from knowing how to handle yourself and your weapons. There was humour and very sweet moments with the sisters (including Brigda) and the men who were drawn to them.
But the discrepancies were too many and distracted from the overall storyline: - The Clydesdale mares were all pregnant and the sisters were so conscious of that at first, being very upset when they accidentally forced them into battle. But then they do it again. And again. And again. And again. - Warwick is annoyed that Brigda may love another, but she literally says she's in love with him in the instance that he overhears? So where was the possibility of him misunderstanding her?? - They talk over different strategies over and over again but Aunt Hexy decides at the last minute, without communication, to do her own thing? When she's never done that before? - Godet is able to do training with her sisters *and* have time to forge and style a dagger in one day? With engravings etc? Has the author watched Forged In Fire at all?? - The sisters don't for one minute consider that the Laird would be informed and would notice multitudes of men prepping and slowly trickling out of the castle grounds all in one evening? - Gordon gives Godet his plaid to keep warm, but he was also in the water so his plaid is also wet? How is that gonna keep her warm?? - Munroe attacks the sisters over and over again on the initial journey to Gordon, but leaves their servants convoy which has all their things and more of the famous and much-wanted Clydesdale horse?
There are certainly some things I'm missing, but you get the drift. I'm annoyed. I would've liked to read the other sisters' stories, but I can't bear to get through that many discrepancies again. Would've been nice to see Brigda's HEA fleshed out too and find out how Warwick survived. But eh.
This is a very different and interesting book about four sisters💃💃💃💃 who are highland warriors🔪. They are left orphans and must flee their evil Uncle's plot to marry the eldest sister.
When they flee, they take their huge draft war horses🐎 with them, and the horses 🐎figure very importantly into the story. Their Aunt also rides with them as a mentor and authority figure on her highland pony. In my mind, I see it as a comical sight.
Their wish is to unite the clans and take back their castle🏰 and lands from their uncle.
I liked the story a lot even though the actual probability of the warrior maidens💃🔪 was probably very negligible in those days, especially four sisters! It's a fun fantasy🐲🌈 and a wonderful romance💞! I highly recommend to all you highland🔪 romance readers out there!
ARC Received from Bookfunnel🌀 I also got the book with KU.
This was an outstanding book. It was truly about women who had exceeding skills as Warriors fighting to be recognized as "equal", and capable of fighting beside their male counterparts. Godet, Fiona, Cenna and Ina fled from their beloved home controlled by a cruel man who abused them. Gordon, Laird of the MacDonnells is shocked to find out he is supposedly betrothed to Godet, whose beauty is beyond compare. Although he is currently betrothed to another he is immediately drawn to Godet as she is to him. His Warriors arecsoon to learn the depth of these four women and their capability as Women Warriors. Boy sure they in for a shock. There is so much more to this story! I so enjoyed this book and I am currently continuing on in Alisa Adams "Beasts of the Highlands" series. I highly recommend this series!!
You know how Kevin Costner’s accent in Robin Hood comes and goes? The accents in this book were like that. Like every “do” was “dae,” but then other words were the Queen’s English.
The story here is great. Lots of action, passion, longing. Super memorable characters and great descriptions of Scotland.
The writing is not great. There are a ton of grammatical errors. I felt like 20% of the story could have been cut. It was really like reading a first draft. I’ve never wanted to be an editor so badly because the story has such heart - this could really be a five-star read.
Minimal sexy times. No intercourse! I know! But guess what? I know I’ll read other books in this series, so the author is clearly doing something right.
I can't say if this was my first time reading this author, because historical romance is only one of many genre that I'm a lover of and have read a plenty. But I truly enjoyed "Highlander's Lionheart" the aunt's and Ina were my favorite characters though all of the characters are very well written and really bring the story to life, the humor, action, all these strong alpha men and women who fight to the death for the honor and the one who capture each of their heart. So again this is a very well written and awesome read and I'm so looking forward to more in the lives of these strong alpha men and women in this series.
I enjoyed the first 140 pages or so and then it just got to be too silly and unbelievable. I appreciated the strong women in the beginning of the book and loved the male characters Gordon, Tristen, Laughlin and Liam. The female lead, Godet, just didn’t make sense toward the end. She kept saying that she was responsible for the safety of her sisters but she made poor decisions and unnecessary risks in that regard. She had access to an army of trained McDonald warriors but chose to sneak out in the night without them. There were also some editing errors that bugged me. Disappointing. 2.5
In past reviews, there was a complaint about not having Scottish form of language for all characters. In this book, Alisa Adams has answered that. I love her books either way. In this book Godet and Gordon meet with Gordon's intention of sending her home. Circumstances prevent that and he discovers the woman and her sisters are not totally helpless. Enough said! I would recommend Alisa's books to anyone looking for adventure, romance, and everything you want in a great book. I've been reading it to my 5 year old granddaughter who has given back so much. I received this ARC in exchange for a voluntary honest review which I have freely given here.
I really enjoyed reading about the women warrior's. The fact that they could fight and use the same weapon's as the menfolk, made it that much more fun to read! Then there are the huge fighting Morgan Horses, how wonderful!! When I was young, our neighbor had 3 of them and they are awesome big and loads of fun to ride! The men are strong and caring, yet they are warriors and so romantic!! Made of legendary stuff!
I am not sure what to make of this one. I like strong heroines but Godet did tend to jump into situations with both feet. I did feel like rolling my eyes at some of the scenarios, which were a little unrealistic. For example Mckenzie Warriors dropping their weapons in the middle of a face off. I liked some of the minor characters, such as Aunt Hex and Ina. The characterisation was consistent and they provided a little humour. It was an entertaining enough read
I'm beyond tired of the overdone "women who are the equals of men" shtick, centuries before it would have been accepted--and here we have four (five), who not only are weapons masters and horse experts, but also warlords and can manufacture a beautiful place practically overnight.
Honestly, I spent as much time staring into space wondering if I'd have the strength to finish this farce as I did actually reading.
I loved the characters in this book. Godet and Gordon were so attracted to each other. Her sisters were amazing too. I enjoyed the men that followed Gordon too. The "bad guys" were creeps. This book has romance, no sex but that is OK. It will keep you turning the pages. It sometimes has funny parts in it too. It has drama, twists and turns.
Author Alisa Adams is an amazingly splendid storyteller. Her characters are so real as Godet Ross and her sisters come together to take back their home with the help of Laird Gordon MacDonnell and his clan. Complicated by Aunt Hexy, the attraction and sparks between Godet and Gordon fly as they all face danger and terror at every turn in reclaiming their ancestral home.
The characters in this story are amazing. The women are just as furious of warriors as the men are. They are strong and skilled but have a soft side to them. The men are strong and appreciate the women for who they are. The romance is sweet and sultry. The sisterhood is amazing. With all their differences they compliment each other. The story was action packed and impossible to put down.
Easy to pass the time gettibg this flowery descriptive romance.. Clearly an early work but will appeal to the young romantic. lots of dwelling on scenery & what exactly the clothing was doing (lots of wind whipped hair and floating gowns/plaids/tartans). Wasnt able to sustain interest to read all way thru but it was pretty lightweight fluffy reading good for a distracted snack
Had elements necessary for a good story just missed the mark!
Had a strong handsome hero and heroine. After the third time in as many days that the heroine got mistreated & assaulted on the Lairds own land by the enemy & he didn't do anything about it!!!! After the attempts and no warriors are even close by I lost believability for me & I'm leaving without finishing something I rarely do.
An Incredibly Wonderful Story: I would give this story more stars if possible. A fantastic story right from the start to the most thrilling gut-wrenching end. Loved the characters and the plot. The horses are awesome along with the silly aunts. I highly recommend this book and the series which after reading this book I bought the entire set. A book anyone who likes a good highland story could read. An Incredibly Wonderful Story:
Maybe I just needed a change from what I’d been reading, but I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It was a light, humorous read. There were only a few drawbacks. One, the inconsistency with the girls being super bad asses, but totally helpless in a couple of situations. Two, the proof reader fell asleep on the job. There were several times when the wrong name was used or some other glaringly obvious mistake. Three, there were some pretty far fetched things.
I loved that the Ross sisters are warriors and can battle as well as any man. I wish Godet had been the one to kill Munroe as she is clearly the deadliest. I also wish she would be Laird of Finnoghail as intended. Also this book is very chaste, no sex or even much kissing which isn’t my favorite. Overall though this book was very enjoyable.
