A Year of Festivals takes you around the world in pursuit of festivals in all their flamboyant color and variety. Be inspired and plan a year to remember!

Organized by month and week to help you to plan a great festival experience at any time of year.

OUR STORY
A beat-up old car, a few dollars in the pocket and a sense of adventure. In 1972 that’s all Tony and Maureen Wheeler needed for the trip of a lifetime – across Europe and Asia overland to Australia. It took several months, and at the end – broke but inspired – they sat at their kitchen table writing and stapling together their first travel guide, Across Asia on the Cheap. Within a week they’d sold 1500 copies and Lonely Planet was born. One hundred million guidebooks later, Lonely Planet is the world’s leading travel guide publisher with content to almost every destination on the planet.

A Year of Festivals: A Guide to Having the Time of Your Life by Lonely Planet (Lonely Planet Publications 2008)(910.202). This is a fascinating guide to all of the obscure, exotic, bizarre, and trippy festivals and celebrations held throughout the world. These are arranged chronologically by calendar date, and the guide includes travel information to the celebrant country. This guide covers the most exotic festivals in the world including Holi, Kumbh Mela, Burning Man, and La Tomatina. My rating: 7.5/10, finished 2010.

Great for the fun-loving globe trotter! A bit too big to fit in your average backpack so I might get the Kindle version.

This book covers festivals around the world - from the religious to the downright, um, hedonistic. Gives you the locations for the best parades/celebration/parties and also warnings for the faint-hearted to prepare (if any).

Definitely useful as I add more must-sees to my travel bucket list :)
