NEW! An Amazon exclusive!

From the international bestselling author of STOP THE WEDDING! (now a Hallmark Channel movie) and the wildly popular COMA GIRL serial comes a new story of comedy and small-town grit:

FACTORY GIRL
Long hours, low pay, and big dreams...

Hi there. I'm Hattie Morehead, and for a 19-year-old, I've screwed up my life pretty good so far. I grew up in a town in Tennessee the size of a mud puddle, and I'd planned to be somewhere else by now doing something important. Instead I got myself pregnant, dropped out of high school, and took a job at the same sewing factory that sucked the life out of my mother and my grandmother.

My relatives are shady, my friends are freaks, and my romantic prospects are dim. But this small-town girl has big dreams: Someday I'm gonna get out of here. Someday everyone will know my name. Because someday instead of sewing designer clothes for minimum wage, I'll have my own clothing line.

I admit, at times that day seems far, far away. But I'm gonna make it happen. I simply have to.

For now, I'm hanging in and hanging on... by a thread.

USA TODAY bestselling author Stephanie Bond was seven years deep into a systems engineering career and pursuing an MBA at night when an instructor remarked that she had a flair for writing and suggested that she submit to academic journals. But Stephanie, a voracious reader, was only interested in writing fiction–more specifically, romantic fiction.

Upon completing her master’s degree and with no formal training in writing (her undergraduate degree is in computer programming), she started writing a romance novel in her spare time. Two years later in 1995 she sold her first manuscript, a romantic comedy, to Harlequin Books.

In 1997, with ten sales under her belt to two publishers, Stephanie left her corporate job to write women’s romantic fiction full-time. In 2011,

Stephanie launched a self-publishing business. Since that time, she has sold more than 1 million copies of her own books. To-date, Stephanie has published over 70 novels and has over 6 million copies of her work in worldwide distribution in numerous languages and formats.

Different from my regular reads

I chose this book because I love reading a series. The fact that it comes in quick parts makes it even more enticing. I will say that this story has a slightly different character than something I typically read. Hattie is a single mom and she works hard to make sure she and her toddler son, Jake, live comfortably. She just gets by working in a factory and taking side jobs. She’s a high school drop out with potential to be so much more.
I had a difficult time at first because I felt like the book was off to a slow start. It seemed as if Hatties life was dragging along. One-third into the book, I started to perk up more. I began getting more involved in the situations occurring at home for Hattie and at work in the factory. By the end of the book I actually began looking forward on what was next to come. I’m looking forward to Part 2. Once this series is done, I think I’m going to move on to one of the authors other series.

This is very interesting. I just finished another series by her (Graveyard Girl) and this one is completely different. There's no borrowing from the other series. The characters in this one are distinct on their own and the plot is utterly different.

In this case you have a young woman who dropped out of high school due to her being pregnant and she now works at a factory that produces clothes. There's another interesting thing here in the description of what she and the other do with the clothes in making them to a certain form and just how that is done.

She has a young boy and the two live in a trailer. Her mother also works there and they don't always get alone well.

In a very smart move she decides to go for her GED and this allows the introduction of another character, Adam. Someone, though, is going to come back into her life and it's not someone she necessarily wants to see.

It's a very good introduction to another series of hers.

I love Stephanie Bond; she makes me laugh out loud when I read her stories. I don't love these once a month releases. There's just too much time between the parts and I forget what happened. Also, they take about an hour to read... that's just not enough material for a month Steph! OK, but the story is very cute. The mother, son moments sprinkled throughout the story are indescribably adorable. Hattie is an interesting character because one moment she is wise beyond her years, then the next minute she is a little juvenile. You really love her character and the supporting characters are a colorful bunch that keeps you laughing. I don't want to spoil anything, read it for yourself! You will not regret it!

Quaint Novella on Living in a One Family Town 4.45*****

Hattie’s, ancient first name, with her socially embarrassing last name of ‘More-head’ placed her on the wrong side of town, in a family that repeats its generational errors, like working in the Manning Denim Factory.,However single, unwed mom, Hattie and her cute, smart son Jake are seen getting by with the hand life has dealt them, while Mr. Adam, Preacher’s kid, wants to help her get her GED as she dropped out of school pregnant.
Loved Hattie fly by the sit of her pants ingenuity and one can only root for her to leave Yonder and follow her dream, as she is a very mature, grounded 19 y/o. Part 2 is a Must Read!

Delightful

I really like this story. Hattie thought she was going to avoid the same kind of life as her mother and grandmother, but that's not the case. She's 19, mom to 3 year old Jake, and she works in the factory where her mother works. No one knows who Jake's father is, and Hattie hopes they never find out. Hattie is a designer of fabulous clothes, and she watches Project Runway religiously, hoping for a better life for herself and her son. I enjoy reading this author, her stories are full of life and exude compassion and empathy.

Finally, a Girl I Love Right from the Start

Is this already Bond's fourth serial? I came to love and root for the others, but this Girl, I love right from the start. She's young, determined and grounded, despite the expected wackos in her life.

I also like that Bond is giving us a little more on each day than just a couple minutes of reading. The last couple of serials gave us a minute or two on most days. More detail means more for us to enjoy.

I am looking forwarding to spending the rest of the year with Factory Girl.

Promising Start

I like these serialized stories. This one is shaping up to be my favorite. I feel it has the right balance of realism (a young girl in an unenviable but understandable situation showing ingenuity and hope on a very limited budget) and escapism (the possibility of two men being interested and a chance at independence through contestantship on a skills based reality show). Can’t wait until 1 August.

This wasn't worth the time it took to read further in the series, though admittedly, that wasn't a lot of time. The story is pretty instantly forgettable, and the language and aesthetic all that of a Young Adult offering, with maybe one or two "real" swear words thrown in for some lame shock value. I don't want to spend more on this review than the author did in writing the series, but I'll add that if you warm to the predictable, the gently entertaining and nonchallenging read, go for it, certainly. If you'd rather something to get your teeth into, don't bother.

Didn't take me long to dig in and read Part 1, Hattie's story is going to be interesting, looking forward to reading more about the characters in this serial. I already pre-ordered Part 2.

Fun start to a series

I look forward to these serial stories each summer. Bond does not disappoint with her latest. Hattie is a small town girl with a lot of guts determined to make a better life for herself and her son. A fun cast of supporting characters to keep you laughing. Looking forward to watching this unfold over the next few months.

Factory Girl 1

I love , love, love Stephanie's serials. I love Hattie's character, being so young and having such a big responsibility, she handles it with more maturity than those twice her age. Seeing how this ended I can't wait until August.

I highly recommend all of Stephanie Bond's books and serials.

A series based on the daily life of a country girl. A country girl who got pregnant and dropped out of high school. A country girl with dreams.

Great read! The narrator is Hattie Moorhead, the country girl mentioned before. The characters are an ensemble cast that revolves around and with Hattie.

Great story. Can't wait to read part 2.

This is a clean story about a single mom and her struggles. The story has a positive spin on it although main character is in a negative situation.
