Rex Dalton #0-2

The Fulcrum / The Power of Three / Unchained

Rate this book
The first three books in JC Ryan's bestselling Rex Dalton series, available together for the first time!

The Fulcrum
Life is a chain of defining moments that determine our choices, change us, and shape us. Sometimes they fly by us in a blur or a series of blurs, barely marked or remembered. But every so often, a moment comes along that is so forceful, it becomes a fulcrum that sets us on a new course.

Such an event happened for Rex Dalton on March 11, 2004 at Atocha Station, Madrid, Spain.

Power of Three
Rex Dalton was sent on a mission to Afghanistan to gather information about the opium trade. His mission brief was to find out who were the key players, the trade routes, and to follow the money trail from the producers, distributors into the coffers of Taliban and other terrorist organizations. Before long he had opened a can of worms revealing spine chilling deceit and corruption that reached into the highest hallways of power in Afghanistan, America, and Europe.

His submissions to his superiors to take action to wipe out the drug stores, labs, and the drug lords, fell on deaf ears.

Eventually, the deliberate inaction and ineptness of US politicians drove Dalton to take unsanctioned action and it stirred a hornet's nest which even he, one of the world's most lethal assassins, might not survive.

Unchained
Rex Dalton and his new friend, the military dog, Digger escaped from Afghanistan and made their way into India where they started a new life.

Within a few weeks, Dalton had a new name, a new passport and no worries about money. He and Digger were on their way to Kapal Mochan, India, where Rex intended to dip his hand into a sacred spring.

But then Digger started shifting around in the front passenger seat and looking at him as if to say, "So, when are you going to stop and give a dog a chance to go to the toilet?"

Manifesto for the far right

I would have gave it a zero, but it started with a good storyline. While I am a democrat, I am not one to spread rhetoric. The southern would have been a lot wiser to keep it politically neutral. Didn't bother to finish the book(s).

Excellent hero

Rex Dalton is such a likable person, and his side kick Digger is so funny yet a extremely trained killing machine.

3 book series that grows on you with each book.

Book 1 is really the background story of how Rex Dalton came to be-a super-trained operative much in the vein of Jack Reacher but on a more international scale. This book is heavy with multiple plots & a bit sparse on details. But as you get into the 2nd & 3rd books, the character development & plot details improve significantly, making them great reads. I'd give book 3 stars but books 2 & 3, five stars each.

Rex is a one man phenomenon who takes on terrorists, drug dealers in Afghanistan with ties to US protectors, to rescuing women in a Saudi Arabia harem who were taken against their will. Twists & turns galore! I'm looking forward to the rest of this series as Rex also adjusts from dog-hater to reluctant dog owner of the impressively trained Digger by his side.

Thanks JC Ryan for what looks to be a terrific series of novels you can't put down.

From the minute I started the J.C. Ryan books on Rex Dalton and Digger, I fell in love with the characters. Each character gets enough coverage for you to get to know them. Ryan is exceptional in describing a dog/man relationship and I love to read about them. Their relationship is better than most people's and when Digger smiles I do too.

I like the fact that Ryan doesn't give us all the graphic details of sex scenes that ruins so many good books especially when they seem to be thrown in for filler or shock. They do nothing to add to the book and I appreciate the fact that Ryan seems to know what is and is not important in a good book.

Rex loves history and so do I so I really enjoy his visiting all the historical places and describing them to us. Truly great reads and good entertainment as I hate to put the book down once I start.

OMG! The Action Just Keeps Going And Going

This review is for the the volume bundle (Books 1-3) offer. The Fulcrum, The Power of Three and Unchained all are Rex Dalton thrillers and Mr. Ryan certainly has a way of writing that pulls you into the action then tosses and turns you then delivers a radical twist all while you're trying desperately to hold on through the blur of action. The stories capture all of you and drops you into the middle of the action keeping you on the edge of your seat while you secretly hope you'll be right in your idea of where the story it's going only to find its better than what you thought of. I've already ordered the rest of the series so I can keep going as I live vicariously through Rex and Digger!

Entertaining

Even though I find the concept of a one-man wrecking ball a little unrealistic and some of the methods McGyverish, this is an entertaining story of good guy triumphs over bad guy to the benefit of the down-trodden. Set mainly in India and the Middle East, the author works a knowledge of local customs into the actions and plights of the characters that gives the plot a counter-balancing weight of reality on the pan of the scale opposite that of ‘unlikely.’ If you’re looking for an entertaining read of a thriller, you’ll find it here. PS: Love the dog. Digger, sit. Stay.

Red Dalton stories

I identified with this story early on as the writer's description of military basic training and the never ending efforts it takes to excel brought back memories of my days in basic nearly 50 years ago. That author chronicles the challenges one must endure to be successful and further went into what it took Rex Dalton to accomplish to become an elite military warrior. I found the book credible even though it was fiction. I enjoyed it thoroughly and found a new favorite writer. I highly recommend these books as they are action packed with never a dull moment.

An Exceptionally High Benchmark of International Intrigue!

Potentially believable heroism actions and selfless awareness of and actions to save fellow humans survive in various countries where there's a mostly insensitive environment, JC Ryan obviously calls upon his love and experience with dogs and more to create such an entertaining series. From the first book to the last in this series, Ryan maintains a high energy level of excitement, mystery and all around great entertsinment.

Thoroughly enjoyed The Fulcrum, Power of Three and Unchained by J C Ryan. So far everything I have read by him has been great. Perhaps Rex Dalton is somewhat over the top- like superman without the ability to fly or x-ray vision, but a noble and patriotic hero, fighting for his country against terrorists, drug dealers and human traffickers. The highly trained and intelligent war dog Digger which Rex inherits from a friend who dies in an enemy ambush, is a wonderful companion and makes it possible for Rex to do many things one could not do by themselves. I hope I will be able to read the remaining books in the Rex Dalton series.

One of the Greatest, Can't Put Down Page Turner

Following Rex Dalton through his partialUS Marine enlistment and Boot Camp. Snatched out of USMC boot camp into Delta Force. From DF offered a super secret job with a secret contractor offshoot from CIA. Rex takes us through many countries in his mission to rid the world of terrorists and other scum of life. Always brushing the unbelievable to complete his missions.

Satisfying adventure

A unique pairing of a covert operator with his own moral values and a skilled military trained dog he committed to care for despite his reluctance. Betrayed, he extracts some local justice and then while plotting to find and reveal the traitors can’t help but get involved in helping others with the assistance of Digger his reluctant charge who becomes his most trusted companion and teammate. Solid series.

Rex Dalton 3 pack

Absolutely brilliant! I had a dog like that some years ago. She couldn't climb trees, but she understood 4 languages. These adventures and the action therein caused me to keep reading until the three were finished! I have read other works by Ryan Ann of which I thoroughly enjoyed!
Great reading! Do not miss the works of this author! Or Digger just may come your way!!!

Quite a thriller.

I like stories where the hero executes multiple incredible conquests of evil. This trilogy certainly satisfied that demand. Especially engaging is the sprinkling of ingenious ways the hero Rex used to extricate himself from life-threatening situations. Although not a previous dog-lover Rex adopts the dog of his best friend at his friend's entreaty, and the dog and Rex's relationship becomes sweet and often humorous.

great read.

These three books are a great read, interesting and very entertaining. The development of Rex is very well handled. Now Digger is something else. He is a hand full that makes any dog owner wonder. The things Digger can do are better than a human character. Digger is a character that really makes you think. Very character in the book are well place and developed. The story lines all have good flow that keep you interested and wanting more. Read and enjoy.

Gifted Story Teller

Rex Dalton reads much like a good Western. Strong male protagonist dealing violence and death on the bad guys, helped by other brave and violent men, but strangely gentle and generous to those wronged. JC Ryan focuses attention and skill in developing his characters. Jack Dalton evolves from losing his family to terrorism to becoming a lone wolf terrorist hunter.

As in other JC Ryan novels, you will enjoy the (bumpy) ride.

Unbelievably exciting to read.

I am amazed that the stories, characters and plots are so beautifully scripted and exciting. I am adding JC Ryan to my favorite authors list. Rex and Digger are the best duo. If you enjoy the Jack Reacher, Jesse McDermitt, or Jack Ryan you will enjoy Rex and Digger.

I DNF'd at 15%. If something is important enough for the author to tell the reader, it should be important enough for the MC to know. This whole, foreshadowing every few pages got old fast. Either let your MC know what he needs to know, or don't tell the readers. It throws us out of the reading experience.

Also, your bigotry is showing, author.

Another great JC Ryan trilogy

O would say Rex Dalton is a cross between Mitch Rapp and Jack Teacher but after reading this series, I don't think they would stand a chance. Great adventure stories and fun read. I especially enjoy the fact that Mr Ryan doesn't have to use excessive profanity to get his points across to readers. Thanks

Edge of the Seat Triple Threat

Excellent steries of three books that introduce Rex and Digger through the unfortunate death of Trevor. The non-stop adventure and unexpected twists and turns, combined with pulse-pounding action provide a series of books the reader won't put down. Ready to get and start Book 4.

Action, Thrills and Adventure on Steroids

This is the most interesting, intellectual and intriguing book I have read in a long while. Rex and Digger are a fascinating human and canine duo that never fails to offer thrilling, action-packed escapades. I am going to immediately start reading their next series.

More recent books much better

I read Mr. Ryan’s books out of order and had been missing the two beginning books. I thought his first two books were a little short and not nearly as well written as he current books. Mr. Ryan’s writing has improved so much I thoroughly enjoy reading his books now.

I really like the characters in these books and both Rex and his dog Digger are most unique. I am a dogtrainer (command training - not military) so I find this information on what Digger can do really interesting. It is a great mix of action with human/dog interaction and I think anyone who likes either one would enjoy reading these books.

An Intriguing Trio

I was quite hesitant as the first in the series is heavily narrated, choppy with little emotion. But I decided to plow on. Ryan developed more fluidity in the novels and they became quite enjoyable. So much I am looking forward to the next ones. Keep reading even if it starts slow. Good reading.

Not too shabby

Not bad really. These books got better as they went along. At the star Red seems like a bit of an arrogant t@%t. But by the end I actually really warmed up to him. Reading these in a compendium form made the whole experience seem like one long book. All in all not to shabby. Enjoy ya self.

Danger…and a dog

I loved this collection. Rex Dalton is the Universal Soldier of the movies! This would make a great action movie! Then again, the problem would be finding a canine sidekick as cool as Digger. I loved their alpha fights, and I think basically Rex is Sherman to Digger’s Mr Peabody. A great read!

Great Start to Finish

Thoroughly enjoyed the first three books in this series. I read two later parts of this series earlier and when I got the chance I got these three as a set. I’m glad I did as they filled in small gaps from the later books(which can be read without these). Highly recommend to anybody who wants an ordinary modern hero in their life.

A thriller with soul

If you were expecting a thriller with lots of action you will find it in this collection. You will also find no romance to get in the way but you will find intrigue and much more humanity than you would usually expect from this genre. This is a modern day knight in shining armor. Well worth the read for all ages and definitely movie material.
