How many secrets will they keep from her before she learns the truth?
In the quaint Italian hilltop village of Bagnoregio, no one speaks of the recent plane crash into the cliffside where billionaire archaeologist Luke Trevanian's former wife and her valuable cargo go missing . . .
The bad news comes in the middle of a fancy museum gala in Naples. Guest speaker Arianna Chase is reported missing in a plane crash near a small Italian village. The victim is not only heroine Lucy Racine's boss but also Luke's ex-wife. Luke insists that Arianna is still alive. Now he is hell bent on rescuing her. Is he still in love with her? Her suspicious behaviour points Lucy to a smuggling racket that trades antiquities for guns. An underground network running from Syria to Pompeii leads straight to Luke's ex-wife. Confronted with the truth about Arianna's shadowy activities, Lucy turns to Norman. He is the only person she trusts, and the man she secretly loves.
In this second installment of the Fresco Nights saga, Lucy's life is about to change when she uncovers a terrorist plot with roots deep in the Middle East.
Recently I stumbled across a saying by author Wally Lamb: “If the book is true, it will find an audience that is meant to read it.” As a long-time writer I have come to accept that not every book is to everyone’s taste, but if you are reading my biography perhaps my books are for you.
I am a writer of romantic suspense, but I guess, really, my novels are more a blend of adventure, mystery, and romance. My favorite romantic suspense author, growing up, was Mary Stewart, and I continue to reread her books and wish that she were still here to write more. But times have changed—although that winning recipe of romance, suspense and, oh yes, adventure still clings to me.
Years ago when I was in my early twenties just finishing university and employed in the archaeology lab as an illustrator, my then boyfriend was planning our future. He was going to be a dentist and I was going to be his artist wife. Although in many ways I loved him, I realized that his future was not my future. He wanted a stable, secure and predictable life (who doesn’t!). I wanted adventure. We were true to ourselves and we broke up. I met someone else who also wanted adventures, and we have never stopped having them. My books are about adventures in love and in life, and all the fun and terror that go with finding sudden love in strange places. I visit amazing settings, sometimes to where my archaeologist husband works, and other times just wonderful locations in my mind. And the characters I encounter along the way! Sophisticated pillars of the community who turn out to be villains and sexy adventurous heroines and charismatic alpha males all blended in a mystery.
I am an enthusiast for anything to do with travel, history, art and digging up old treasures. Of late, I have become concerned with the growing underground trafficking of valuable objects and this is the backdrop to my FRESCO NIGHTS series. I am also a contributor to the Chicken Soup for the Soul franchise. I live in Hamilton, Ontario with my professor husband near the Royal Botanical gardens lakeside.
An antiquities expert has a thing going with a billionaire, but he still might have a relationship with his ex-wife, and neglects her from time to time. His bodyguard seems much more understanding.
Then the ex's plane crashes into a mountain, and secrets are revealed--dangerous secrets.
The International Council of Museums (ICOM) executive members were meeting in Naples, Italy. Dr. Luke Trevanian (billionaire archaeologist) was the guest of honor. There was 1 problem Arianna Chase (ex-wife, Royal Ontario Museum Classical Collections director) was attending. Luke had decked out Lucy Racine (museum illustrator) for his evening date.
Others in attendance are: Sherry (Lucy’s PA), Bruno D’Agostino (Naples museum director), Amelia Krakow (Moscow Museum of Archaeology asst. curator), & Dr. Sulla Kharim (Syrian, PhD, Aleppo Antiquities National Museum curator). Later Bruno returned to the ICOM with some horrible news. The chartered aircraft carrying Arianna Chase from Florence-Naples crashed & killed all 4 passengers. Dr. Trevanian contacted the Agenzia Nazionale per las Sicurezza del Volo for an update. The plane went down around Civita di Bagnoregio (town). It seems Sulla Kharim (Syrian, son) was killed.
Why did Tommy Buchanan’s come up?
I do not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing free books from publishers & authors. Therefore, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one.
An awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very professionally written international thriller book. It was quite easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a huge description list of unique characters, settings, facts etc. to keep track of. This could also make another great thriller movie, or better yet a mini-TV series. To be continued. There is no doubt in my mind this is an extremely easy rating of 5 stars.
Thank you for the free author; Goodreads; MakingConnections; Making Connections discussion group talk; Amazon Digital Services LLC. Kindle Mobi; book Tony Parsons MSW (Washburn)
I liked the story behind the scene, the history. But I rated the book a two star because of the interaction of the three main characters. The billionaire, Luke, the bodyguard, Norman and the artifact illustrator, Lucy. The scene that turned me off to this series happened in the first book. Luke had sex with Lucy and called Norman into the room just as he got off of Lucy. Norman saw Lucy naked. Luke said he did it because Norman wanted her. When Lucy didn’t end the affair after that I was discussed. I started the second book thinking Lucy would come to her senses but Luke lost interest in her so she turned to Norman. Sorry not interested in this kind of book where the woman lets herself be used like this.
I only read this book in the series but I thought it was really good. It was a surprise to find Norman and Lucy having an affair which is just in this book and the next. It has lots of twists in it that you probably wouldn't have figured out even if you read the first book.
This book also sets up the next book in the series. It is sure to be just as exciting as this book was. I would recommend reading this book.
This is a Goodreads Giveaway/Amazon Kindle win. it was only 264 pages long but I still enjoyed it. Would not have hurt to have read #1 but I could still keep up with occurrences because the author was pretty good explaining it! I would read future works by this author!
This was a really good read with lots of mystery & intrigue and, of course, a bit of romance. Right up my alley! I'll definitely be reading the others in the series just to see how it ends.
Thank you to the author, Deborah Cannon, for the free Kindle copy I won in a giveaway!
I won a Kindle copy of this book thru Goodreads in exchange for an honest review.
I'm fascinated with Pompeii so upon reading the title I really wanted to read this book. I had not read the first in the series so I was not familiar with it. First-It has nothing to do with Pompeii history or story other than it is set there. That being said I completely enjoyed this book. It works as a stand alone book, I didn't find it difficult to catch up on what was happening. I won't go into the plot and storyline, that can be read elsewhere, but I will say it has intrigue, romance and more. I can't wait to read the following books and find out what happens.
A suspenseful read which features a billionaire archeologist whose ex wife disappears on a plane crash before she was to be a guest speaker at a museum gala. Our heroine Lucy is face with a dilemma as the missing woman is not only her boss but the billionaire ex wife who believes that she is still alive.
Lucy turns to the only man she can trust and secretly loves Norman, as she discovers the truth of her boss activities. Things will quickly change for her as she gets more and more involved.
I on this ebook in a Goodreads Giveaway. It was about the trafficing in archeological finds in the Middle East. It was also a involved story of a woman who worked in a museum who had a billionaire lover who was kind of off and on and her attraction to his bodyguard. The love story kind of drifts and it turns out this book is the second installment of the love story. It eds rather abruptly and you have to read the next volume to find out what happens.
Pompeii at Dusk: Fresco Nights Saga Book 2 is by Deborah L. Cannon. This is a suspense that takes place in Naples and Pompeii. It is fun to read and the characters are very realistic. The action never stops. Luke Trevanian is a billionaire archeologist. He is getting an award at a gala in Naples and is accompanied by his friend and lover, Lucy Racine. Lucy was an illustrator for a museum in Canada. She would draw the illustrations the others wanted. The latest was to draw the head of Medusa or the Gorgon’s head. This head was only one of three from a classical stature formed by three figures. The gorgon evidently was in actuality three sisters. If they could get this piece of antiquity back to the museum, it would answer an age-old question. The person bringing it back would be quite famed. Was Luke in love with Lucy or was he still in love with his ex-wife Arianne. The story just gets more and more involved as you read. However, it is well worth staying up to finish.
