It was okay

Just okay. I hate that so many authors take a quarter of a story and make it a ‘book’. The whole of 1-4 is one book in my opinion. Had I only read book one, I wouldn’t have bothered with book two because it didn’t get good until mid book three.

Isadora (Isa) and Fernando (Nando) had been left with their uncle by their parents and older brothers, who went to the New World. After a year of no news from them, however, their uncle has more than tired of them, and sells them to the traveler Mordecai. However, Mordecai is no simple elderly bearded man…he is a magician, and Isa and Nando are his first recruits to the new Magical Arts Academy he is starting. If they can even get to it, that is – the Sorcerers for Magical Supremacy (SMS) are on their tails, chasing them to prevent them from getting to the Academy, with killer magic and magicians at their disposal.
I listened to the omnibus version of the first four books of the series, which is really the way these books should be read – each “book” is more of an installment, and they only have a (mostly) complete story as an omnibus. Even as a whole, though, it read as a constant comedy of errors, with the SMS constantly attacking them on their journey and even once they got to the estate where the school will be, frequently narrowly failing to kill them all. Pretty much none of the adults showing in their actions how they are some of the greatest magicians of their time, and no one tells Isa or Nando much of anything instead expecting them to just know what’s going on despite how they know the two late-teenagers grew up without exposure to magic. Plus, since it was originally published in installments, there is a lot of repetition of basic facts, like how the SMS is the Sorcerers for Magical Supremacy – understandable in longer books or because of how it is an omnibus of four installments, but annoying when listening to it as a whole. A highlight is getting to meet Lord Lancelot the owl, Humbert the dragon, and the various firedrakes (notably Sylvie and Mathieu).
The best part of this omnibus was the performance by Kate Marcin, even at 1.2x speed. She did an exemplary job with the various accents and differentiating characters not only by accent, but also by men/women. Of course, I could just be a sucker for accents…but still, that does not detract from her performance, which largely carried the listen for me.

Slow

This story tends to be overly descriptive and the pacing can be painfully slow at times. Even though things happen I finished the first 4 books feeling as though nothing actually occurs at all. The world building is weak and the magic is not described at all. Throughout the first omnibus volume the main characters don’t learn anything at all. Even though they are at a magical academy! Every time you think they are going to finally learn something there is a disruption of some sort. Not necessarily a significant event even. I’m going to keep plugging away on the next omnibus for a while. At least they are all compiled together. If I was reading this as they came out I wouldn’t have stuck past the first “book”. Decent enough series to kill time with but don’t expect too much.

Nope, doesn't get started till the end.

This isn't multiple books but rather vague acts in a story that doesn't really start till the last few pages. First spell at most two pages to the end of the book, for crying out loud.

Magic War gears up with students teachers and magical creatures

Good stories all geared toward introducing you to this world and the characters in it. More of a prequel to book two, it feels to me. Entertaining read regardless. The big baddies are a group attempting to murder or imprison the magic users defending humans, magical creatures and other magic users. Good versus Bad with magic. Several late teen students get to the Academy but their journey is fraught with danger. Two are brother and sister with no previous exposure to magic whatsoever. Two are brother and sister with only the most basic magic learned. One distraction after another keeps the teachers from actually starting classes. There has been one short history class and one short transformation class in all four books. The Academy is newly formed and in the process of recruiting students and teachers. And Protectors. They face a formidable group of evil magic users who feel entitled to rule the world and everything in it, using Dark magic against the Good magic users who are few in number.

Magical Arts Academy: Books 1-4 (Magical Arts Academy Omnibus Collection Book 1)

I have to say, I, so glad, the gang is together… I read her later books, so this is such a treat to read all of her books from the beginning… make me understand how important each character is and how they always talk about them in the new series, especially my dear Clara..

I am impressed so much so that it actually makes you want to believe that there is magic out there. Once you start reading this fantastic series, you will not want to stop..

The adventures continue and the runes where not wrong Isa is definitely a witch..

Definitely recommend this Omni series edition.. now to the next set, book part 2 series.

Magic is only as good as the one who wields it.

This book is excellent, a new look on good verses evil and how we can all overcome the bad in ourselves and others.

It starts with two children sold by their unc!e to a magician called Mordecai, and how they are taken into the magical community of which they have no knowledge. They feel out of their depth , but when they are needed they come through. It also shows how evil is an easier option but one you should ignore.
It doesn't preach good over evil, but subtly allows the reader to make up the their own mind.
A must read for anyone interested in the supernatural world.

This is an omnibus of 4 short books. It's slow to start. Lots of details. Like the first book is just them traveling to the Academy. I didnt realize they were done more like episodes. It reads like one large book though. The third book was when things started to pick up and get interesting. Before that I found myself getting distracted. I was interested enough to keep going obviously Lol Overall I enjoyed it and will continue the story as it's left on a bit of a cliffhanger!

I was SO impressed with this narrator! She did a TON of different accents. Not just between men and women but actual accents. She really brought the story to life. Loved her!

dramatic

Magical Arts Academy Omnibus Collection book 1 which contains books 1-4. The first four books are very dramatic, story telling, detailed and a roller coaster of a read. Of course full of interesting characters new and old, facing the fantasy world of witchcraft and sorcery with the world of dragons. A great book recommendation for the young and old of fans who love the genre. Be encaptured and inspired that no matter who you are that you can always do anything you set out to achieve.

I originally read all of these books one at a time as each book was published separately. I wish I could have read all of these books at once. This box set is a great buy plus you don’t have to wait for the next book to come out. You can binge read all the first four books without stopping in between. Since there is nonstop action contained in these pages, you’ll be glad you have these books at your disposal to continue in the fun. Totally enjoyable and highly recommended!

A secret magic academic! Life was guaranteed not to be ordinary there

An excellent book about good vs evil and how can we overcome the bad situation
The story starts with two children sold by their uncle to a stranger.
On the way, they were attacked and discovered that magic was real. The dragon was real and so was the spell. And so was the danger.
Omnibus book 1 ended with the cliffhanger, keeps me curious for the next adventure.

Not 4 books in one, just a single book disguised as 4

Not a bad story not a good one but not a bad 1 there is no connection between the previous books that introduced the main character of the Academy And that book in fact it was disconcerning at 1st until I realize that these characters what the one from a previous book I read months ago. You might enjoy the story I leave it up to you

Promising start to clean young adult magic series.
The narration is spot on, easy to listen to and a nice voice. I had not come across this author before and thought by the writing that she was not too experienced and these were early books in her writing experience. Maybe that is the case and further books get stronger, she certainly has many books, decent reviews and ratings now. Suitable for ages 10 and over.
Can't complain about the price, good value there.

Takes time to get there but then it delivers

Takes time to get there but then it delivers I felt it took a very long time to develop. It was slow moving, I felt the relationship between siblings was strange. Not enough magic. But I enjoyed it. Her teenage angst was true and I felt she would end up very strong and probably the best magician there.

For the fact that it’s an incomplete story of 14 short chapters, I found it strange that the first five chapters (1/3 of the book) took place in a carriage. The remaining 2/3 of the first book was simply their journey to the academy.

Additionally, it too much action not enough story. I only partially read the first book.

These books where short and fast to read. I started them and couldn't put them down. I didn't get my reviews in because I didn't want to stop. So much goodness on these books. You are going to like every one of these characters.

Isa And Nando

Good magic verses bad magic. The sister and brother are taken to a magic school to learn good magic. There are four other students, but they have magic experience. Magical creatures make this an interesting read.

Awesome

Unlike a lot of the Academy books this is a natural progression from the previous series.
Well written and very entertaining to read. This is the first three books and they read so very well. On to the next three for me.

Great truly great

The stories read too quickly. Just as I am enjoying and getting used to the storyline and characters we move on. I will have to train to read slower. Well maybe. Still excellent writing.

I tried

I’m sorry, but I just couldn’t get into this book. I read volume one but was not intrigued. Considering that volume one was more a chapter than a book, it didn’t bode well for the rest of the series so I quit. Someone else may find this absolutely delightful.

Is book is 1 - 4 of a 13 book series. I'm going to post this review to all 4 since it covers them all.

Well written books and a fun story ruined by being broken up into little pieces. Authors really need to stop wasting their time and our money trying to get us buy books that are not whole.

Pretty good book...

I had a little trouble catching up on the basic premise in the beginning, but once I did, I couldn't stop reading. I'll definitely be reading the rest of the series.

Great read

I love this series and take on magic. I'm a little confused about the time period and location, but that is minor.
