Recounts the stories of a bragging boy who accepts a dare to stay in a haunted house, a ghost's revenge on the new owner of a house, and four friends who explore a haunted house
Copyright 1980, this is a Troll associates book. There are only 3 stories in this book. The theme is haunted houses.
So, this is a book for elementary school age & up. Saying that, I have to say the first story is completely inappropriate for kids. The illustrations show kids that look like middle school age. This is an "I dare you to spend the night in a haunted house" story. The thing is... one of his friends gives the kid a gun. For protection. Against ghosts. Hmmmmmm. Spoiler here ----the kid shoots himself. Fortunately in the toe. Still, this is not a good story.
The other 2 are ok, the last being the best. I still can't recommend this to anyone wanting to read it to their kids or have their kids read it.
A collection of three family friendly ghost stories. This is a simple read and the artwork really sets the tone for a creepy factor. I would recommend it for children 8-10 years old. It would be awesome to see this turned into a stop motion video.
There was some progression with the stories in terms of what was creepy and that was neat to see. The first story is the least scary while the last one was the creepiest. I could see a family reading this collection around Halloween and it becoming a small tradition. Just something in good fun.
One of many short scary stories collections I read as a kid. I remember really loving the final story, which told of a ghost that caused things in a family's house to go backwards; that is to say, to go downstairs, you had to walk backwards, or you would end up upstairs again. You had to run the car in reverse gear, or it would go forward. Things like that. It was a very funny story, and I would read it over and over again with my sister. I wish I could find another copy, for nostalgia's sake, and to read to my younger family members.
